Spending time volunteering at a number of different locations throughout Billings, student-athletes from many of MSUB’s varsity teams give back to the local community by sponsoring Service Saturday. BILLINGS, Mont. – Dedicating their morning to giving back to the local Billings community, several dozen Montana State University Billings student-athletes participated in sponsoring Service Saturday throughout the city at multiple locations. Players from MSUB’s men’s soccer, baseball, and women’s soccer teams split up into groups, as Yellowjackets were largely represented among the volunteers. “Athletics is excited to be a sponsor of this month’s Service Saturday, as it shows that a strong commitment to service in our community is part of the culture of MSUB’s athletics program,” said Yellowjacket athletic director Krista Montague. “Being a collegiate student-athlete, coach, or administrator is a privilege, and we believe with that comes an important duty to give back to our community.”

The MSUB men’s soccer team volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, while the women’s soccer players lent a hand at the festival of trees at Metra Park. Other teams spent time at the Boys and Girls Ranch, the Salvation Army, and the Audubon Society. “It’s always a great experience to give back to the Billings community,” said MSUB women’s soccer junior and Billings native Jessica Spang. “Today at the festival of trees, we interacted with younger children and got to play some fun, festive games with them. It was great for the team to come together and hang out with younger kids, whose enthusiasm and enjoyment helped give us a little boost to finish out the semester.” Service Saturdays are part of MSUB’s overall community service and engagement initiative, a program that Yellowjacket Athletics contributed more than 1,400 hours towards during the 2015-16 academic year.
