With just one more week before the conference championships, the MSUB track and field teams will be competing at the Mountain State Games in Idaho. BILLINGS, Mont. – With just one more week before the conference championships, the MSUB track and field teams will be competing at the Mountain State Games hosted by Idaho State University on Friday, Feb. 9 – Saturday, Feb. 10 at Holt Arena. “This will be a big meet for us as we continue to prepare for conference next week,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “We’ll see quite a few competitive DI schools there this weekend in Idaho State, Weber State, Montana State, Montana, Utah Valley as well as Carroll, Great Falls and Westminster. This should help us gear up for the competition we’ll see the following week at GNAC.” Last week at the Conglomerate Open in Wyoming, Austin Lindquist in the 60 meter hurdles and Nels Flanagan in the weight throw both lowered their own MSUB school records. Lindquist’s time of 8.62 is the sixth fastest-best time in the
GNAC this season. Flanagan’s effort of 53-11.25 is the fourth longest toss in the GNAC this season and earned the junior Great Northwest Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week honors. In the triple jump, sophomore Janessa Williams topped the MSUB record winning the event with a mark of 35-10, eclipsing the previous record from Leah Berry of 35-6.75 from 2011. In addition to Lindquist, Flanagan, and Williams, several other athletes are currently in the GNAC’s top-10. Sam Zook is second in the 60 meters (6.90), Michaela Johnson is sixth in the 60 hurdles (9.15), Josh Panasuk is sixth in the mile (4:29), Marcus Lindquist is seventh in the triple jump (42-8.00), Chuck Carr is third (6-8.00) and Isaiah Girard fifth (6-6.00) in the high jump, Brady Ostermiller is ninth in the shot put (46-4.0). In the distance events, Jorey Egeland, Garrett Love, and Nikki Aiken are also listed in the top-10. “This meet should give us a chance to see where we want to enter people next week at conference as well as give the team a chance to shoot for their season’s best as they wind up the indoor season,” Coppock said. “The track at Holt Arena is banked and will be a lot faster than they’ve been used to running on, plus the level of competition will be as high as we’ve seen all winter.” The GNAC Indoor Championships are set for next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18, on the banked 200-meter oval at Jackson's Track, located on the grounds of the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. On Friday, running events start at 1:30 p.m., and field events at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, field events start at 9:00 a.m., and running events at 10:25 a.m. The Mountain State Games kicks off on Friday, Feb. 10 with the multi-events.
