Nate Vanderby and MSUB track and field resumes competition with a meet in Bozeman, Mont.
The MSUB track and field teams resume competition with a meet in Bozeman. BILLINGS, Mont. – MSU Billings track and field resumes its 2016-17 indoor campaign with a meet at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday, Jan. 13. The Yellowjackets have not been at a competition since, Dec. 3, in Spearfish, S.D., at a meet hosted by Black Hills State. “This early meet will be a little tough for us after just coming off the long winter break,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “We’re generally a little rusty after such a long period of time, but it will be a good chance to get some work in. We’ll be running some people in several events they don’t normally compete in, and this should help us get back in the competitive mode.” Expected at the meet in Bozeman are Montana State, Montana, MSU Billings, Carroll College, University of Great Falls, Rocky Mountain College, Montana Western, and the University of Mary. The competition on Friday will be a
combination across all divisions and should serve as a good re-entry into the season for a squad that hasn’t been at a competitive meet in six weeks. “We have to stay positive and focus on steady improvement in our events each week from here on out,” Coppock continued. “The GNAC Championships are only five weeks away, so we need to use these meets as conditioning opportunities. We were pretty excited after the opener at Black Hills with our freshmen class who had a number of great, early performances.” Included in those collegiate debut performances were standouts from Chuck Carr and Marcus Lindquist in the jumps, Jewlz Collins and Michaela Johnson in the sprints and hurdles, and Hailey Steinbeisser in the shot put. Also at the meet in Bozeman, Coach Coppock looks for return performances from 400 meter runners Nate Vanderby and Landon Polkow. “One twist in this meet is that our runners will be running a Distance Medley Relay rather than the Mile run. This will give us a chance to run some different distances as well as just getting used to that particular relay, which has been a good event for us by the time we get around to Conference.” A live web stream of the event will be available on eversport.tv here.
