Sophomore Miranda McConnell was named to the 2016 GNAC all-academic team.
Sophomore Miranda McConnell is being honored for her accomplishments in the classroom, being named to the GNAC all-academic team Wednesday. PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore Miranda McConnell was named to the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference allacademic team the conference office announced Wednesday. McConnell, a middle blocker for the Montana State University Billings volleyball squad, was one of 47 student-athletes recognized by the league for their outstanding performances in the classroom. “We are really excited that Miranda was recognized by the GNAC for all of the hard work she has done in the classroom,” head coach Casey Williams said. “She works really hard on and off the court, and is very deserving of this accolade.” McConnell carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.21 and is working towards a degree in health and human performance. The 6-foot-1 native of Sandy, Utah, has amassed 124 kills for the Yellowjackets this season on a .210 (124-
59-309) attack percentage. She has recorded 43.0 total blocks for third-highest on the MSUB team. McConnell produced two matches this season of 14 kills and three with 10. Against Hawaii Hilo, McConnell hit .526, pounding home 14 kills against four errors. To be eligible for selection to the GNAC volleyball all-academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore standing or higher, have competed at the nominating institution for at least one year and have a cumulative 3.20 grade point average or higher. This week the Yellowjackets are at Alterowitz for the last two home matches of the 2016 season. On Thursday, Nov. 3, MSUB welcomes Saint Martin’s and on Saturday, Nov. 5, the ‘Jackets will host Seattle Pacific during this season’s Senior Night.
