MSUB women’s basketball player Alisha Breen is redshirting the 2016-17 season after sustaining a torn ACL in a preseason game against Montana Tech. BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings women’s basketball senior Alisha Breen will redshirt the 2016-17 season after sustaining a torn ACL in a preseason game at home against Montana Tech last Friday, team officials announced Tuesday. “Obviously I am saddened at the news she will be out, but I know that she will work hard over the next many months to come back and I look forward to the opportunity to coach her again,” commented MSUB head coach Kevin Woodin. “She is a great leader and I know that she will help us this year in many different ways. She has a positive impact on our team in so many ways, but now we will need other people to step up in her absence.” Breen, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year and a DII Super 16 Preseason AllAmerican, was the top scoring returner for the conference at 17.4 points per game. Last year she was unanimously named to the first-team all-conference and led the Yellowjackets to a berth in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
Last season for the Yellowjackets, Breen shot 44.5 percent (193-434) from the field and 38.8 percent from the 3-point arc (50-129). At the free-throw line, Breen shot 77.6 percent (121-156). She collected 5.4 rebounds a game. Last year Breen recorded 76 assists, 16 blocks, and 46 steals. She scored 557 points in the season and has 1,210 in her career. Breen scored 20 or more points in 13 games during the 2015-16 year, topped by a 37-point performance against Academy of Art on Nov. 14 that tied her for the seventh-best scoring performance in GNAC history. At the NCAA tournament in California, Breen scored 31 points against host and No. 1 seed Azusa Pacific. The 5-foot-10 forward from Choteau, Mont., is a three-year starter for the MSUB program. She was a member of the 2013-14 Sweet 16 team that played in the west region title game at host Cal Poly Pomona, and in the GNAC tournament game last season against the national runner-up Alaska Anchorage. The Yellowjackets begin their 2016-17 regular season this week in California on Friday, Nov. 11, against last year’s west region runner-up UC San Diego. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
