Part 7 of MSUB’s women’s basketball blog detailing the trip to Barcelona, Spain, features junior Vanessa Stavish. May 18, 2017 | By: Vanessa Stavish BARCELONA – This was our second day in Spain. On this day we woke up early and took a boat tour along the coast to a little town called Tosa De Mar which was an old fishing town. Along the way we stopped at many beaches along the coast to pick people up and drop some off. We also stopped at one point and some of the crew on the boat fed the fish bread and they all came right next to the boat. The first thing we you see when you get to the town, Tosa De Mar, is the famous castle that over looked the Mediterranean Sea. After touring around the castle we walked down and looked in all of the little shops in the downtown area. After exploring the town we spent the rest of the day on the Tossa beach swimming and playing Frisbee. On the way back we once again got picked up by the boat, but while on our way back we saw dolphins jumping alongside our boat! This was
by far my favorite part of the day. I had never seen dolphins and there were four of them just jumping up in the water next to our boat. I did get a little excited and might have screamed a couple times too, but who knows haha. When we got back to the hotel there was dinner waiting for us. The food over there was very different than the food we have in America. They eat a lot of rice and bread. My favorite part about the food was all of the fresh fruit that got served with every meal. I think doing this tour was so important for not only us as teammates but as people. It's not every day you get the opportunity to go to Europe with some of your best friends. Experiencing the culture of a different country is very humbling and eye opening. You learn to appreciate the little things in life, such as complementary water and public bathrooms that are free. I am so grateful that we were able to take this trip this year. I now have memories that will last a lifetime!
