ABOUT YELLOWJACKET ATHLETICS Home of the Yellowjackets, the Montana State University Billings department of intercollegiate athletics supports 15 men’s and women’s varsity sports which compete in the NCAA at the Division II level. MSUB is one of 11 full-time members of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, which features 11 championships throughout each academic year. More than 240 student-athletes compete on MSUB’s teams, and members of Yellowjacket teams posted a collective 3.15 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year. MSUB-sponsored varsity sports include men’s and women’s teams in basketball, cheer/ stunt, cross-country, golf, soccer, indoor and outdoor track & field, as well as baseball, softball, and women’s volleyball. Highlights from the 2015-16 season included a second NCAA West Region Championships berth for MSUB’s women’s basketball team in the last three years, as the Yellowjackets played their way to the title game of the GNAC tournament before advancing. Junior Alisha Breen led the GNAC in scoring with 17.4 points per game, and senior Janiel Olson broke the school’s career rebounding record. Senior Della Lyle stole the show on the track for the ‘Jackets, becoming the first All-American in school history on the women’s side. She was selected as the GNAC Newcomer of the Year in both indoor and outdoor seasons, and represented the Yellowjackets at the NCAA National Championships. On the baseball diamond, the ‘Jackets claimed their second straight GNAC regular-season title, setting a program record with 30 victories including their first-ever postseason win in the conference tournament. Junior Cody Cooper shattered the school record with 106 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings, and senior Luke Reinschmidt closed his historic career by earning first-team all-region honors for a second straight season. MSUB’s men’s soccer team also had a highlight year, posting its first winning season since 2012. Sophomore Ricardo Palomino led the entire NCAA west region in goals with 16, and earned first-team all-region honors. In women’s soccer, the ‘Jackets advanced to their third GNAC Championship tournament in the last four seasons, after posting a second consecutive winning year. MSUB hosted three conference championship events and an NCAA Division II West Region Championship for the first time ever during the 2014-15 year. The ‘Jackets welcomed more than 30 teams to Billings on Nov. 22, 2014 for the NCAA Division II West Region Championships at Amend Park, hosted the 2014-15 Men’s and Women’s GNAC Basketball Championships from March 4-7, 2015 at Alterowitz Gym, and capped off the year by hosting the 2015 GNAC Baseball Championships from May 7-8 at Dehler Park. MSUB also serves as the host of the largest NCAA Division II softball tournament, the Desert Stinger Classic, which was played for the sixth year in a row from Feb. 12-14, 2015 at Majestic Park in Las Vegas.

ABOUT YELLOWJACKET ATHLETICS The 2014-15 year also featured three All-American athletes from MSUB, including senior Kayleen Goggins (women’s basketball), junior Robert Peterson (men’s indoor track & field), and senior Brody Miller (baseball). Miller was also selected as the 201415 GNAC Male Athlete of the Year for all sports, just the second baseball player in the conference’s history to win the award, and the second student-athlete from MSUB to collect the honor as he joined women’s basketball star Bobbi Knudsen (2013-14). Capturing GNAC crowns during the 2014-15 year were MSUB’s baseball and softball teams. The Yellowjackets won the 2015 GNAC Softball Championships and advanced all the way to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II West Region Championships in May. MSUB’s women’s soccer team also competed for a GNAC Championship title, finishing in second place in the conference standings and earning the No. 2 seed into the conference tournament in the fall of 2014. In men’s golf, senior Jake Hedge also represented the ‘Jackets at the NCAA Regional level, competing as an individual in the championships in Monterey Bay, Calif., from May 6-8, 2015. In 2013-14, the MSUB women’s basketball team made history by winning the 2013-14 Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season title and advancing to the NCAA Division II west regional championship game. MSUB’s 2013-14 women’s basketball team joined the Yellowjackets’ 1998-99 squad as the only two in program history to advance to the NCAA regional title game. The latter continued on to the Elite Eight, marking the furthest-advancing MSUB team in the school’s history. In 2012, the MSUB softball team won the GNAC regular season title with a 32-18 overall record and earned hosting privileges for the 2013 conference softball tournament. The 2012 Yellowjacket men’s basketball team also earned a conference title, defeating the University of Alaska Anchorage 74-70 in the GNAC tournament championship game. Formerly known as Eastern Montana College, MSUB athletics stem back to the 1927-28 season, the year in which the university was founded. The Yellowjackets have competed in a number of different conferences throughout the years, and prior to the 1980-81 season the athletic department transitioned from the NAIA to competing at the NCAA Division II level. The MSUB Hall of Fame and Distinction inducted its inaugural class in 1990 and serves as a tribute towards influential figures on and off the court, in both current and retired sports.

‘JACKETS IN THE COMMUNITY MSUB’s women’s soccer team dedicates significant time each school year to give back to the Billings community through various service and engagement activities. The Yellowjackets visited classrooms at local elementary schools to work with students on multiple occasions, and welcomed students to MSUB’s campus to show them around and engage in physical activities.
The women’s soccer team was a major contributor to MSUB’s athletics department’s more than 1,400 community service hours registered during the 2015-16 academic year, and the ‘Jackets will continue their community service and engagement initiatives beginning again in the 2016 fall season.

MSUB women’s soccer wins 14th straight NSCAA Team Academic Award Thursday, September 24, 2015 Given to teams achieving a collective grade point average of 3.0 or higher, MSUB’s women’s soccer team earns the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 14th year in-a-row. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Winning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 14th year in-a-row, the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team turned in a collective grade point average of 3.23 during the 2014-15 academic year to earn the honor announced by the organization on Wednesday. “I am definitely very proud of the girls for keeping our academic tradition going,” commented MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “To receive this award 14 times in-a-row is an enormous accomplishment for our past and present student-athletes. It shows that we can be very competitive on the field as well as in the classroom with our very demanding travel schedule. I am happy for the team earning this award again.” The award is presented annually to men’s and women’s college teams as well as boys and girls high school teams throughout the United States. This year, a total of 865 soccer teams (307 men, 556 women) were honored by the NSCAA. MSUB was one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams to earn the award, as Central Washington, Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon were each also honored.

Yellowjacket women named GNAC Team of the Week after clinching GNAC berth Monday, November 2, 2015 Needing a win on Saturday, MSUB’s women’s soccer team delivers and is named the GNAC Team of the Week after clinching the fourth and final berth into the GNAC Championships. PORTLAND Ore. – With time winding down in the second overtime period of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match in Portland, Concordia University forward Bobbi Eckler finally broke through on her ninth shot of the match and scored the game-winning goal to stun the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team. The 1-0 setback was the fourth loss in five matches for the Yellowjackets, and the once-promising notion of a berth into the GNAC Championship tournament for a second year in-a-row had suddenly become distant and bleak. Overcoming the odds however, MSUB found a way into the conference tournament and has been selected as the GNAC Team of the Week announced on Monday. “It is awesome to win the Team of the Week award, and it just continues the theme from the weekend in which everything worked in our favor,” commented MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “The team deserves this because they truly battled through the final four games of the season and put together some very good performances. The team knew what it had to do before going into the weekend and thankfully we were able to get the final win we needed against Central to get us into the tournament.” With only two games remaining on MSUB’s schedule, it was all-or-nothing the rest of the way. The ‘Jackets had to find a way to defeat Western Oregon on the road, and then beat Central Washington at home on Senior Day just to have a chance to make the tournament.

A far cry from the sinking feeling of defeat MSUB experienced on Oct. 22 in the heartbreaking loss to the Cavaliers, there was a simultaneous roar of excitement and joy on Saturday evening from the team. After defeating CWU 1-0 earlier that day, the ‘Jackets collectively watched the final piece of the complicated playoff puzzle fall into place. MSUB had done its job winning its final two matches, but still needed help from Western Oregon against Simon Fraser. The Clan sat three points behind MSUB playing in their final match, but held a tiebreaker that would earn them the fourth and final GNAC berth with a win over the Wolves. As the evening match kicked off in Burnaby, British Columbia, the site of the 2015 GNAC Championships, MSUB gathered at its year-end banquet. The focus of the evening was to celebrate the season and honor the team’s four graduating seniors but throughout the room cell phones half-concealed underneath tables displayed the live statistics of the match that would determine MSUB’s fate. The first roar from the ‘Jackets came in the 54th minute, when WOU pulled ahead with a goal. Even a draw would suffice and push MSUB through to the tournament, but the buzz quickly turned to a collective groan as the Clan equalized less than 30 seconds later. The sun began to set at Terry Fox Field, and soon darkness engulfed the stadium as the match wore on and the waiting continued. ‘How long could Western Oregon hold off the Clan?’ the ‘Jackets wondered. ‘Would the drive of hosting the conference tournament be enough to will SFU to victory?’ Full time arrived, and the score remained at 1-1. In Billings, MSUB’s banquet began wrapping up and players, coaches, and families alike abandoned the charade of ignoring the game. A slideshow that had just scrolled through the top memories of the 2015 season on a projector screen was replaced by the video stream of the penultimate match of interest. This was it: The Yellowjackets were about to find out if they needed to pack their bags for another road trip. Ten minutes of overtime felt like an hour as MSUB continued to await its fate. Into the 107th minute, and chatter of a draw began to surface. A foul by SFU right on the edge of the goal box set up a free kick for the Wolves, and as the shot curled past the wall and into the net, MSUB’s ticket was punched to the very field their eyes were trained to. Pandemonium. Somehow, some way, the Yellowjackets had found a way to return to the GNAC tournament for the second year in-a-row and third time in last four seasons.

There were heroes along the way; Brittney Greenback scoring her first career goal as the game-winner at Western Oregon and freshman Alycia Wright scoring her team-best sixth goal and GNAC-best fourth game-winner against Central Washington. There was a true freshman at goalkeeper in Chloe Hopps, playing at a skill level well beyond her years and more often than not keeping her team in matches. There was a four-year starter, senior captain, and one of the best in MSUB history in Katlyn Lokay piloting the team as a center back. Now the ‘Jackets get set to face top-seeded Western Washington University on Thursday with an 8 p.m. Mountain time kickoff. The winner will advance to the tournament title game, as MSUB did in the inaugural event in 2012, for a chance to claim the GNAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA West Region Championships. The women’s soccer team is the second from MSUB to be picked as the GNAC Team of the Week this year, joining the Yellowjackets’ men’s soccer team after a pair of big wins against Northwest Nazarene and Concordia.

Yellowjacket AD Krista Montague Krista (Fjelstad) Montague is entering her 14th year of employment at MSU Billings and her fourth as director of intercollegiate athletics in 2016-17. Montague led the athletic department’s 240-plus student-athletes to another successful year on the playing field and in the classroom in 2015-16, as the cumulative grade point average surpassed 3.0 and 48 individuals earned academic all-conference honors. Montague will also serve as a mentor for the NCAA Division II Athletic Directors Association Mentoring Program starting in the 2016-17 academic year. In 2014-15, MSUB hosted several marquee championship events for the first time ever. In November, MSUB welcomed the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country West Region Championships to Billings, which included participation from 32 teams across the region. MSUB also hosted the 2014-15 GNAC Basketball Championships and the 2015 GNAC Baseball Championships during the academic year. MSUB’s softball team advanced to the NCAA Division II West Region Championship game after winning the GNAC Championships title, and the Yellowjackets’ baseball team also claimed a conference title during 2014-15. During her first year at the helm of the athletic department, Montague successfully secured hosting responsibilities for the upcoming 2014 NCAA cross country west regional championships and 2014-15 Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball championships. Montague began her employment with MSUB in July of 2002 as the department’s development and marketing director. Shortly after being hired, she was appointed to the position of senior woman administrator, making her the highest-ranking female administrator in the athletic department. When Montana State University Billings announced the hiring of Montague as its new athletic director on May 10, 2013, it became the first NCAA institution in Montana to have a female athletic director. In 2005, the titles of assistant AD and NCAA compliance coordinator were added to her duties, while she still managed the corporate partnership program and special events for the department. In 2009, Montague was promoted to associate AD. As associate AD, her primary responsibilities included overseeing and managing NCAA II compliance for each of the 17 sports and co-ed cheer, as well serving as a crucial member of the athletics administration team and academic liaison between the different campus constituencies and athletics. Montague, a native of Eastern Montana, received her undergraduate degree in business administration with an option in marketing in 1999 from MSU Billings. Montague was a four-year letterwinner for the MSUB women’s basketball team and left the program with the school record for career free-throw percentage. As a senior, Montague helped MSU Billings to the West Region Championship and the program's first and only Elite Eight appearance in women’s basketball. Montague is a member of NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) and NACWAA (National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators), as well as various other state and local organizations. In 201112, she served on NACWAA’s Legislation & Governance Committee, and also served as a member of the NCAA II Softball West Regional Advisory Committee in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Before joining the MSU Billings athletic staff full time, Montague was the athletic department’s part-time corporate partnership director and held various positions for DD Marketing (Pueblo, Colo.), Norwest Bank, and Billings Clinic. Montague recently completed a master's degree in public relations at MSU Billings. She lives in West Billings with her husband Brent and two daughters Shayla (14) and Allie (12). 12 | 2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com
Head Coach Wojtek Krawkowiak Wojtek Krakowiak begins his seventh season at Montana State Billings and sixth as head coach of the Yellowjackets. Krakowiak carries an overall record of 62-34-12 during his five years at the helm of the program. The Yellowjackets advanced to their third GNAC tournament in the last four years during 2015, as Krakowiak piloted the squad to an overall record of 8-7-2 and a fourth-place finish in the GNAC with a league record of 6-5-1. Senior Katlyn Lokay was a first-team all-GNAC pick, and finished her career with the second-most minutes played in program history under Krakowiak. In 2014, Krakowiak led the ‘Jackets to an 11-4-2 record and the No. 2 berth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championships by virtue of finishing in second place in the regular-season standings. MSUB allowed just 12 goals during the 2014 season, and Krakowiak was selected by his peers as the GNAC co-Coach of the Year. Under his guidance, six Yellowjackets earned all-conference honors and one earned all-region honors. MSUB was also selected as a recipient of the NSCAA Team Ethics Award. In 2013, the Yellowjackets narrowly missed the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, finishing in fifth place in the regular season standings with a record of 6-8-2. Under Krakowiak’s guidance, MSUB has won 13-consecutive National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Awards. In 2012, he led MSU Billings to a 13-6-1 overall record and 8-5-1 GNAC record en route to an appearance in the inaugural GNAC Women's Soccer Championships. The Yellowjackets’ 9-0 start was the second-best overall start and winning streak in the program's history. In the Sept. 25 NSCAA/Continental Tire national poll MSUB climbed to a No. 23 national ranking and a No. 3 ranking in the west region. Leading the 'Jackets to an 8-1 record in September, Coach Krakowiak earned the GNAC Coach of the Month award. For their efforts in 2012, the 'Jackets saw seven student-athletes selected to the all-GNAC team, four NSCAA/Continental Tire all-West Region selections and three Daktronics all-West Region selections. MSUB also had a program-high 11 student-athletes selected to the 2012 GNAC all-academic list. Jennifer Larsen received 2012 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American first team honors, and Jaucelyn Richter received third team NSCAA Scholar All-American honors. As the interim head coach in 2011 he led the team to an 11-3-4 overall record, 8-2-4 GNAC record and a second-place conference finish. Krakowiak's 2011 results mark the fewest losses and best winning percentage (.722) in the program's history. Six Yellowjackets received all-conference honors during that season. As an assistant in 2010 Krakowiak helped the 'Jackets to a 13-6-1 overall record, 9-5 GNAC record, a tie for second in the final conference standings and their first NCAA tournament appearance. MSUB advanced to the second round of the regional tournament, falling to Seattle Pacific 2-0. Prior to MSUB he served as the head coach at Division III Rutgers – Newark. Krakowiak, a native of Poland, brings a tremendous amount of experience to the program as a player and a coach. As the head coach at Rutgers-Newark, Krakowiak went 15-20-3. Krakowiak guided the program to its only postseason berth in its brief 10-year history in 2008 when it participated in the ECAC Metro Championship tournament. Prior to being named head coach for the Scarlet Raiders in November of 2007, Krakowiak was an assistant coach for one year with the men's and women's teams. As a player, he played at St. John’s University and Clemson University during his collegiate career. He was honored as the Soccer America Freshman of the Year at St. John’s after helping the Red Storm to the 1996 NCAA Championship. At Clemson, Krakowiak was the 1998 Hermann Trophy recipient (equivalent to the Heisman Trophy) and the ACC Player of the Year, as he scored 31 goals and had eight assists leading Clemson to the NCAA quarterfinals. After his collegiate career he was drafted 15th overall in the 1999 MLS College Draft by the San Jose Clash. In the 2000 MLS season he played 24 games and scored five goals for San Jose. In 2001 he was picked up by the Tampa Bay Mutiny, but injuries cut short his time there and his professional playing career came to an end. Staying active in the local community, Krakowiak has been coaching with the Magic City Soccer Club the past three years and has won the U-14 girls' division 2010 Montana State Cup Championship. He also finished second with his U-16 girls' team in the 2010 Montana State Cup Championship. Krakowiak, earned his Bachelor of Science in sports management from St. John’s University in 2003, and he holds several USSF and NSCAA licenses, including his 'A' license in the USSF. Furthermore, he is fluent in both Polish and Russian. Krakowiak is married to Maggie Krakowiak and the couple has twin girls, Addison and Emilia.

In 2014, Cavallo helped lead the ‘Jackets to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, as MSUB finished as the runners-up in the conference with a record of 11-4-2, 9-3-2 in conference play. Cavallo came to MSUB after one season as the assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at Emory & Henry College. Before Emory, he spent time at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., where he was the goalkeeper coach for the Crusaders’ women’s team during the spring of 2013. Prior to his work at Belmont Abbey, Cavallo was the head varsity boys’ soccer coach at Allegany High School in Cumberland, Md. In two years at Allegany, his teams posted an overall 21-7-3 record. In 2012, Cavallo led Allegany to an undefeated regular season – the first in school history. Allegany also set school records for wins (15), consecutive wins (11), longest unbeaten streak (16 matches), goals scored in a season (71), fewest goals allowed in a season (5), and shutouts (12). For his efforts, Cavallo was selected the 2012 Pepsi-Cola High School Soccer Coach of the Year. Cavallo, a native of Charlotte, N.C., has also coached at the club level for Lake Norman Soccer Club and at the high school level as a varsity assistant girls’ coach at East Lincoln High School, both in his home state. He was the men’s goalkeeper coach at Frostburg State University during the spring of 2012. Cavallo played for two seasons at Warren Wilson College before transferring to Frostburg State University to finish out his junior and senior years, where he was a two-year starter in goal. A prep standout at East Lincoln High School in Denver, N.C., Cavallo was named to the all-region team his senior season. He also played for North Meck Soccer Club throughout his high school career. Cavallo holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from Frostburg State, which he completed in the summer of 2012.

Yellowjacket Soccer Field The MSU Billings soccer field, known as Yellowjacket Soccer Field, is located on the College of Technology campus and is home to both the men's and women's soccer teams. The field is located at the corner of Shiloh and Central Avenue in west Billings. The field underwent a renovation prior to the 2007 season as a new artificial turf playing surface was installed in place of the original natural grass. A new press box, scoreboard and fence were added to the complex in seasons after, with the new 600-seat bleachers being installed following the completion of the 2011 season.

MSUB women’s soccer 2016 season preview Thursday, August 18, 2016 Having advanced to the GNAC Championships in three of the last four seasons, MSUB’s women’s soccer team is set to make a run back to the conference tournament as the 2016 season begins this week. BILLINGS, Mont. – Advancing to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship tournament in three of the last four seasons, the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team will set out for the fall 2016 season this week with a similar goal in mind. The Yellowjackets, who finished the 2015 season with a record of 8-7-2 overall, earned a berth in the GNAC Championships with a fourth-place league finish at 6-5-1 in conference contests. MSUB was picked to finish in sixth place in the 2016 GNAC preseason coaches’ poll announced Tuesday, and will play its first exhibition match this Saturday at 6 p.m. against Rocky Mountain College at Yellowjacket Field. “We have experienced players who know what it takes to get to the GNAC tournament, and we know it is not easy but it is definitely do-able,” said sixth-year head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “I am excited about the group of players we have, and it will be a good mix of new players and returners.” A trio of seniors will serve as the leadership core for MSUB, with one each on the defense, midfield, and offense units. Having started 42 matches and played in 50 since her freshman season in 2013, senior captain Dana Lubieniecki will enter the season with the most experience on the squad. During her junior season in 2015, Lubieniecki earned honorable mention all-GNAC after scoring two goals and assisting on two more. She started all 17 matches in the midfield, and her 1,525 minutes played were third-most on the team. “Dana has been here four years and has a really good picture of what it takes to be competitive in the GNAC,” Krakowiak said. “She is extremely skillful on the ball, and her technical abilities are among the best in the GNAC. She can score, pass, she has great vision, and is extremely fit.” Lubieniecki is also a two-time academic all-GNAC pick, and earned academic all-region honors last year while carrying a grade point average north of 3.80. She will serve as the vice president for MSUB’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2016-17 academic year.
18 | 2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com
Anchoring the defensive unit behind Lubieniecki is senior captain Kari Kastelic, who has played every minute of the last two seasons since transferring to MSUB from New Mexico Highlands University. In a total of 3,201 minutes at center back the last two years, Kastelic has contributed a pair of goals in 34 starts. She was a second-team all-GNAC performer in 2014, an honorable mention pick last year, and earned academic all-conference and all-region honors in 2015 as well. “Kari is very competitive and doesn’t like to lose, and you can definitely see that on the field,” said Krakowiak. “She is very aggressive in the back, and is definitely an all-conference player. It is really good to have a captain in the back who can see the whole field.” MSUB’s third senior is forward Hayley Warren, who logged appearances in 14 matches last year after transferring from Shoreline Community College. Warren chipped in a pair of assists, and will look to have an increased impact up top this season. “Hayley had a good spring, and she is extremely strong and dangerous on the ball,” Krakowiak said. “She can hold the ball up front for us, and we want her to be a leader on the team this season. She is going to come in and set the tone from the beginning.” Along with Warren’s veteran presence on the offense, the ‘Jackets return their top-two goal scorers from last season in sophomore Alycia Wright and junior 2016 Seniors (L to R) Kari Kastelic, Hayley Warren, and Dana Jessica Spang. Wright led the team and ranked sixth in the GNAC with six goals Lubieniecki. last year, four of which counted as game-winners for the ‘Jackets. Wright was extremely efficient with her shots, placing 56.2 percent on target (18 of 32). Her most important goal of the year came in the regular-season finale, as she found the net against Central Washington in a 1-0 win that pushed MSUB into the conference tournament. “Alycia had a great season last year, and I think she’ll do even better this fall,” Krakowiak said. “She is able to find gaps and create space, and put herself into positions where she can score. She is also a great passer, and is very dangerous in the final third.” Beginning her third season at her hometown university, Billings Skyview alumna Spang is coming off of a five-goal, five-assist season as a sophomore in 2015. She picked up her second career GNAC Player of the Week honor last fall, and was an honorable mention all-conference pick by season’s end. A year after starting all 17 matches and totaling 1,516 minutes, Spang will be counted on heavily as a veteran leader on the field. “Jessica’s work ethic goes above and beyond our expectations, and she does the little things right,” said Krakowiak of another academic all-conference honoree. “She is going to step up even more this year, and be more of a leader for us.” The Yellowjackets welcome back five more sophomores who all saw the field a season ago, providing more experienced depth at every level of the team’s lineup. Bailey Griglio played in all 17 matches as a true freshman in 2015, scoring three goals and placing 11 of her 16 shots on frame. Griglio will look to play an increased role this season, building on the nine games that she started last fall. “Bailey did great as a freshman coming in and scoring three goals,” said Krakowiak. “She is a very creative player who is good on the ball, and she can play any position up front. I look forward to seeing her on the field this fall, and she can be a threat in the final third because of her technical ability.”
2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com | 19
Sarah Coghlan is another sophomore who filled into a starting spot last year, as she ranked fifth on the team with 1,494 minutes as an outside back. Starting 13 matches and playing in all 17, Coghlan figures to be an important piece of MSUB’s defensive unit again this season. “Sarah had a really good freshman year and made a good adjustment to the speed of the college game last season,” said Krakowiak. “She is a very tough defender to beat, is good in a one-v-one situation, and is extremely strong on the ball. She also has a pretty good idea of how to go forward and see gaps, and doing a little bit more than just defending.” Sophomores Dariann Oaks and Jordan Devoto also saw time as freshmen in 2015, and will provide further depth on this year’s roster. Oaks had one assist in eight games, while Devoto came off of the bench in three matches during her first season. In goal the ‘Jackets will welcome back Lili Delgadillo, who started a pair of games as a true freshman last season. MSUB will also feature a pair of 6-foot-1 goalkeepers in sophomore Katelynn Kerkvliet and freshman Clancee Ferrin. Kerkvliet is a native of Soldotna, Alaska and is transferring from the University of Mary, while Ferrin is a Billings native and graduate of Senior High School. “We have three very good goalkeepers, and with our three scrimmages we will get a pretty decent idea of the strengths of each of them,” Krakowiak said. “Lili has been with us for a year, and is very confident and a good leader. She works hard in trainings and is an awesome teammate.”
Sophomore Forward Alycia Wright.
Several true freshmen will have a chance to earn significant playing time this season as well, with 14 players total set for their first season at MSUB. Kalin Sandow, Courteney Shovlin, and Sarah Farris will make their collegiate debuts on the defensive unit, and will work alongside junior transfer Kylee Wolfe on the back line. The latter will be reunited with her Soldotna High School teammate Kerkvliet, after transferring from Highline Community College. The ’Jackets have a wealth of new players who could see action in the midfield and up front, including Mackenzie Breeden, Claire Tevaseu, Erin Reynolds, Amanda Hemmen, Alexa Iacolucci, Rachel Lythgoe, Alexa Torbert, and Kayce Moore. “I’m excited about the good balance we have with the new group coming in,” Krakowiak said. “All of them can compete for starting positions and playing time on the field, and that is going to give us some depth that we need for this season.”

ABOUT THE COACHING STAFF Krakowiak was an assistant coach on the Yellowjackets’ staff for the team’s run to the 2010 NCAA West Region Championships, before taking over as the lead man prior to the 2011 season. Since then, he has compiled a record of 49-28-11 (.619) overall and a mark of 36-23-9 (.596) in GNAC play. After leading MSUB to a second-place finish in 2014, Krakowiak was voted the conference’s co-Coach of the Year. Assistant coach Stephen Cavallo will begin his third fall season with the ‘Jackets, having helped the team reach the conference tournament in each of his first two seasons. The Yellowjackets have gone 19-11-4 since the Charlotte, N.C., native joined the coaching staff, and he earned his Class C Licensure from the United States Soccer Federation in 2015. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with Stephen, and he is very knowledgeable about the game of soccer,” Krakowiak said. “It is great to have him in the program for a third season with us.” LOOKING AHEAD After the initial exhibition match against RMC on Saturday, the ‘Jackets will continue their preseason until taking on Colorado Christian University on Sept. 1 in Lakewood, Colo., to open the 2016 campaign. MSUB will also play Western State Colorado, San Francisco State, University of Mary, and College of Idaho on its non-conference schedule, before beginning the 12-game GNAC slate at home against Western Oregon University on Sept. 22. The top-four teams in the 2016 GNAC regular-season standings will earn a berth into the championship tournament, which will run Nov. 3-5 at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C.

Katlyn Lokay among MSUB’s best as 4-year starter for ‘Jackets Friday, September 25, 2015 Turning in one of the best careers in MSUB women’s soccer history, senior captain Katlyn Lokay is a leader on and off the field who inspires teammates through her humble leadership. MSUB SPORTS – With her team trailing 2-1 on the road against Northwest Nazarene University and with time running down in the second half, then-junior Katlyn Lokay of the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team knew the Yellowjackets had to make a move and do so quickly. MSUB was fighting for positioning in the 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer standings, vying for a return to the conference championship which Lokay had experienced as a freshman in 2012 but had eluded her and the ‘Jackets in 2013. In the 84th minute in the final regular season match of the year, Lokay tucked home her third goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2. In the second overtime period, Lokay’s fourth goal of the season clinched the come-from-behind victory and sent the Yellowjackets into the conference tournament on a positive note. Lokay and her teammates turned a losing season in 2013 into an 11-3-2 regular-season finish in 2014 as the Yellowjackets finished in second place in the regular season standings. Lokay’s goals in that match were not career-defining or particularly memorable beyond the week that followed. But they served as a perfect representation of the impact she has had on MSUB’s program throughout her four-year career. Now as a senior with MSUB, Lokay wears the captain’s arm band proudly. She has earned it as she has grown into a vital leadership figure who the players around her aspire to be like. Most of all, she has been a game-changer for the ‘Jackets, just as she was on that November afternoon in Nampa, Idaho. Lokay has developed into a player MSUB can always count on to come through in the clutch and lift her entire team through the way that she carries herself.

PLAYING WITH THE BOYS Many kids experiment with a variety of sports growing up, testing their hands – and feet – at as many different activities as they can. For Lokay however, it has been soccer since Day 1. When she first started out, it didn’t bother Lokay that she was thrown into the boys’ small-sided games as a kid. “Growing up I never did other sports, it was just soccer,” Lokay said. “I got to the age where boys don’t like passing to girls and I started to get frustrated.” Lokay joined the Boulder County Force for her U9 season, and when she reached the U11 age Lokay began to take her game to the next level. Playing under head coach Ryan Hinkle, Lokay credits her early teenage years as being most crucial to the technical development of her game. “He taught me how to read the game and all of the technical things,” Lokay commented on her early coach. “He taught me everything I know and gave me an opportunity to grow and be part of a top tier team.” By the time she reached high school, Lokay had excelled on every team she had played for, learning skills as a central defender as well as an attacking midfielder during her development. It was Lokay’s adaptability to different roles and strong work ethic that initially caught the attention of MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “One night my dad came to me and said he had a coach from Montana on the phone who wanted to talk to me,” Lokay remembered. “He told me he wanted me to come for a visit, so my mother and I flew out, did a tour and I trained with the team. I felt like when I visited it was similar enough to home but far enough away for me to feel independent. It just felt right and it was where I was supposed to be.” A roughly eight-hour drive from her home town of Boulder, Colo., Lokay knew right away during her initial visit that Billings was the right choice to pursue her career at the college level. After signing her letter of intent however, Lokay faced one of the toughest decisions of her life prior to her senior season at Boulder High School. After a subluxation of the patella in her left knee, Lokay needed surgery that would force her to miss her final prep season. “I renounced my captainship, and got surgery that December so I didn’t play my senior season,” Lokay said. “Rehab was the main focus for me that spring, and I was nervous about being fit coming into college as a freshman.” When she was able to get back onto the field, Lokay trained with her brother Zac’s club team as she was reminded of her early youth days playing with the boys. “That was frustrating at first, but it ended up being the best thing for me,” Lokay said regarding working out with her brother. “I was just trying to get my strength and quickness back.” CAREER UNFOLDING “I remember watching her start consistently our freshman year. She just puts her head down, does what she has to do, and doesn’t ask questions. I have always looked up to her and she always puts her best effort into everything.” – Senior Ashely Marra on senior Katlyn Lokay. Not only did she recover stronger than ever, but Lokay hit the ground running from her first day as a Yellowjacket. As a freshman, she started all 20 matches and led the team in minutes played with 1,798. In just her third career match, Lokay scored her first two collegiate goals, lifting the Yellowjackets to a 2-0 victory over Dixie State on Sept. 6, 2012.
60 | 2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com
What stood out beyond Lokay’s two goals and assists in her first season however was her versatility and rare leadership she displayed as one of the youngest players on the team. “I remember to this day when she played every position her freshman year except for goalkeeper,” Krakowiak commented. “This tells you that she had excellent coaches in the past who really focused on tactical and technical aspects of the game. She raises the bar every day for MSUB women’s soccer and we are very lucky that she chose MSUB.” Lokay’s productive first season culminated in a run to the GNAC Championships, where the Yellowjackets advanced to the title game before falling to Western Washington. “As a freshman I had no idea what it meant to make the tournament, but throughout the season I realized that to get there was huge,” Lokay said. “When we beat Seattle Pacific in the first round it was the best feeling in the world. You can’t really describe it without being there.” Despite the successful first campaign, Lokay and the ‘Jackets struggled to play at the same level her sophomore year as MSUB just missed the conference tournament and finished with a record of 6-8-2. Lokay again started every match and led the team in minutes with 1,486, but she experienced a familiar challenge upon the conclusion of the season.
Katlyn Lokay as a freshman in 2012.
With the surgery on her left knee and the recovery it entailed still relatively fresh in Lokay’s mind, she suffered the exact same injury on her right knee and again faced surgery and six months away from the game. Motivated by her injury as well as MSUB’s subpar season, Lokay was determined to recover stronger than ever after she had to sit out during the Yellowjackets’ spring season in 2014.
Returning home over the summer, Lokay worked with physical therapist Jeff Hoobler who she credits with helping her through the grueling rehab a second time. “Having him there was very helpful, because he knew what my body needed and what my circumstances were,” Lokay commented on Hoobler. “Having that support system helped me get back to 100 percent.” While Lokay had to deal with the frustration of not playing with her teammates in the spring, then-fellow sophomore Teegan Koster faced the same injury and was also sidelined. The duo had already grown close and developed a strong friendship, but working through their injuries together only helped strengthen their bond. “It is never fun to sit out, even in the spring, but I am glad Katlyn and I both went through the injury together,” Koster said. “She bounced back really quickly. No one can question how hard she works, and she has always led by example.” “Teegan has stuck with me throughout ups and downs and everything I have been through here,” Lokay said. “I don’t know what I would do without her support in life in general.” ‘LOKAY’ RHYMES WITH ‘OK’ “Soccer has taught me to come out of my shell. I didn’t talk much my freshman year and was shy off the field. Now, especially being a captain, I have to be able to communicate with my teammates on and off the field. College athletics are hard, and it takes a lot of mental and physical strength. Making it through four years here has taught me to grow up a lot.” – Katlyn Lokay. By season’s end, Lokay will become just the seventh player ever at MSUB to cross 6,000 career minutes played. Her presence on the field over the past four years has been a model of consistency rarely matched, but her contributions off the field within her team and university have been just as significant.

Lokay currently serves as the vice president for MSUB’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and carries a 3.3 grade point average while pursuing her degree in psychology. After college, Lokay has ambitions of joining the police force, explaining her desire to build a career around making a difference in peoples’ lives. “Because I have played soccer my whole life, I have always enjoyed the physical aspect and being hands-on,” Lokay said. “That part of police work appeals to me, and I want to be out on my feet being active. I want to do something that makes a difference and that isn’t the same thing every day.” Lokay admits that she has always been somewhat of a soft-spoken leader, choosing her words wisely and electing to think through situations rather than act on impulses. “One of the things I respect about Katlyn is that she is fine being the outsider looking in,” Marra said. “It is interesting to get her point of view on things because she will see something completely different than other people.” When Marra and Lokay first joined the program together as Lokay as a junior in 2014. freshmen, Lokay had an immediate impact on her classmate in one of the first team sessions they had together. Participating in an early-season fitness exercise – known to athletes as “the beep test” – Marra set out determined to match Lokay stride-for-stride and keep up with her. “I remember thinking, ‘I am going to stay with this girl, I am just as fast as her,’” Marra recalled with a laugh. “She sprinted the whole thing and I think I made it to level six. I have made it a goal ever since to beat her in races, but she always wins.” CAPTAIN LOKAY “What I like most about Katlyn is her personality. She is a very humble person with a huge heart, she never complains, and she always has a positive attitude. She has raised the bar very high for the women’s soccer program, not just on the field, but also as a person, student, and athlete. It will be a huge job for me to find another Katlyn.” – MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak on senior captain Katlyn Lokay. Wearing the captain’s arm band for the third straight season, Lokay now helps anchor MSUB’s back line as a central defender. She has served in every role imaginable for the team, scoring goals when the Yellowjackets needed them most, and stopping opponents in their tracks in the defensive third.
Lokay as a senior in 2015.
Among her goals in her final season are to help the Yellowjackets build on last season’s success and return to the conference tournament. So far, MSUB is off to a 4-1-1 start and is 2-0 in conference play after a comefrom-behind 2-1 win over Western Oregon on Thursday.

Krakowiak and the Yellowjackets have asked Lokay to be everything they have needed throughout her career, and each time she has responded by exceeding expectations. Her humble and gracious attitude is something she credits to her development growing up, putting her parents and siblings at the forefront of the senior leader she has grown into. “My parents are my rock in everything I have done,” Lokay said regarding her mother Linda and father Henry. “My dad was my first coach, and he was just a parent who had no idea what he was doing. But he was passionate about it and he is still passionate about it now. Even now that I’m older in college he and my mom drive eight hours to come watch as many games as they can. I would not be the player, person, or leader I am without them.” Don’t expect MSUB’s to be the last uniform Lokay ever wears, as she undoubtedly will one day follow through with her ambition to join the police force. Perhaps she’ll even earn the title, ‘Captain Lokay’ in another role besides her current one in the navy and gold. When she moves on, the ‘Jackets will be hard-pressed to find a talent as humble and effective as Lokay has been throughout her career. “We always joke, ‘who is going to be the next Katlyn?” Marra said. “You just want to play like her, do what she does, and make your presence known on the field the way Katlyn does.” Next season, the ‘Jackets will set out to find an answer to Marra’s question. For now, they will continue to band together around one of the most unique and talented players to ever suit up for MSUB.

MSUB women’s soccer 2015 season review Tuesday, November 17, 2015 Advancing to the GNAC Championships for the third time in four seasons highlights a successful year for the MSUB women’s soccer team. BILLINGS, Mont. – From start to finish the theme of the season for the 2015 Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team was ‘Breaking Down Barriers.’ The Yellowjackets faced numerous challenges en route to their third Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championships appearance in the last four seasons, and it came down to the final hour of the final day of the season for the team to earn its berth. Overall, the ‘Jackets finished the year with a record of 8-7-2, and completed the GNAC portion of their schedule with a mark of 6-5-1. MSUB entered the GNAC Championships as the No. 4 seed, and ended its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Western Washington University in the opening round of the tournament at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby, British Columbia. “I am extremely proud of the team and how we ended the season on a high note,” commented fifth-year head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “This was a very young team, but with great captains and our wonderful seniors we were able to overcome a lot of obstacles that we faced throughout the season. I think all 22 players deserve a tremendous amount of credit for sticking together as a family throughout challenging times and supporting each other. I am extremely pleased with what we accomplished this year and I am very excited going forward.” Perhaps the most difficult stretch of MSUB’s season came when the ‘Jackets lost four of five games between Oct. 1-15, and sat in fifth place in the GNAC standings with four games left to earn a berth. The team responded with shutout wins in three of its final four matches, and clinched the fourth and final tournament berth with a 1-0 victory over Central Washington University on Senior Day at Yellowjacket Field on Halloween. “Those losses were tough, but we always tell the team that we go game-by-game,” Krakowiak said. “We didn’t get the results we wanted, but I was happy with the way we were playing. I was extremely happy that we didn’t dwell on the losses, and I’m proud that the team didn’t give up. We won some crucial games after those four losses.”

Leading the way was senior captain Katlyn Lokay, who played every minute of the season at the crucial position of center back for the ‘Jackets. Putting the finishing touches on one of the top careers in MSUB history, Lokay tallied 1,611 minutes and was a key factor in MSUB’s six shutouts on the year. Through four seasons, Lokay played in all 70 games and in 98 percent of the minutes in MSUB’s games since 2012. She ranks No. 2 in MSUB history in career minutes (6,418), and averaged 91.7 minutes per game in her four seasons. Lokay also finished No. 22 in MSUB history for career scoring, with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. In 2015, Lokay was picked as a first-team all-GNAC defender, and earned academic all-conference honors for the second season in-a-row. “It will be extremely hard to replace Katlyn as she goes down as one of the best players who has ever played at MSUB,” Krakowiak said. “She is the true definition of being a Yellowjacket. She went above and beyond throughout her career at MSUB, and I am tremendously thankful that I was able to coach her for four years.” Playing alongside Lokay were fellow seniors Ashely Marra, Teegan Koster, and Elizabeth Howard who each also completed their careers with the ‘Jackets. Assuming an elevated role down the stretch, Koster started the final nine matches of the season for MSUB as an attacking midfielder and played 888 minutes overall. She had an assist on the road against Northwest Nazarene University on Oct. 8, and finished with eight shots on the year. Marra played in eight matches before being sidelined with an injury, but finished the season strong playing on Senior Day and in the GNAC Championships. Playing in the program for four seasons, Marra turned in 449 minutes as a midfielder/forward in her final season. “I am definitely happy that Ashely decided to continue her career, as she went through a tough freshman year and redshirted,” Krakowiak said. “She decided 2015 Senior Teegan Koster. to finish her career strong, and put her head down and pushed forward. Teegan is similar to Ashely, as she has had her setbacks here and there but she has kept going. She has never quit and she set a good example for the younger players, and that’s what I really admire about her.” After recovering from a torn ACL during the offseason, Howard started every match as a holding midfielder and played 1,429 minutes on the year. She scored her first career goal against Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 19, and also had an assist in MSUB’s 3-2 win over Carroll College on Sept. 3. “Izzi worked extremely hard to come back this season, and her work ethic off the field is amazing,” Krakowiak said. “To see her play a huge role this year and help us go to the GNAC tournament was great for the team and for herself. She has an amazing personality, and was great to have on the team.” While the ‘Jackets bid farewell to their four graduating players, they will welcome back several key offensive and defensive components in preparation for the 2016 season.

Among the returning leaders is junior captain Kari Kastelic, who played all 1,611 minutes alongside Lokay as a center back. Since joining the program a season ago, Kastelic has never been subbed off the field, playing all 3,201 minutes and starting all 34 matches. This season, Kastelic was an honorable mention all-GNAC selection as she was irreplaceable along the back line for the ‘Jackets. Fellow junior captain Dana Lubieniecki will also return next season, after scoring two goals and adding two assists while starting all 17 games this season. Lubieniecki was also an honorable mention all-GNAC pick, as she played 1,525 minutes and scored on the road at Academy of Art on Sept. 12 and at Saint Martin’s on Oct. 3. “Dana and Kari are very intelligent people, and they see a lot of things on and off the field that others don’t,” Krakowiak said of two academic all-conference picks. “I am excited for them going forward, as they both understand what it takes to be successful in the GNAC.” Leading the offensive effort were sophomore Jessica Spang and freshman Alycia Wright. Spang led the team in points with 15, as she scored five goals and added five assists in her second season in the program. Two of Spang’s goals counted as game-winners, and she also led the team in shots with 33 while starting all 17 games and playing 1,516 minutes.
2015 Junior Kari Kastelic.
Bringing her career goals total to eight, Spang was named an honorable mention all-GNAC pick for MSUB. She was picked as the GNAC Player of the Week after a goal and an assist against Carroll College in the season-opener in early September. “Jessica had an amazing sophomore year,” Krakowiak said. “Her work ethic is fantastic, she is a very intelligent player, and she makes some plays that aren’t easy, look easy. Jessica is very coachable and she definitely got better from last year to this year.” As a true freshman, Wright led the team in goals with six and finished second in the GNAC in game-winning goals with four. Time and time again Wright found the net in crucial situations, as she started 14 matches, played in all 17, and totaled 1,212 minutes. Wright led the team with 18 shots on goal, and placed 56.2 percent of her attempts on target. “Alycia is a born goal scorer,” Krakowiak said. “The goals she scored are absolutely quality, and she is so calm and composed on the ball in the box. That might be the hardest thing to teach in soccer but for her it comes naturally. She was huge for us this year playing up front.” Replacing a goalkeeper who played every single minute a season ago in 2014 senior Krystal Daniels, freshman Chloe Hopps took over without a hitch and was picked as an honorable mention all-GNAC keeper. Hopps started 15 matches, and held a 1.02 goals-against average with 55 saves in 1,410 minutes. Hopps earned five shutouts in her first college season, allowing 16 goals on 179 shots faced with a save percentage of 77.5. “Losing our senior goalkeeper, we didn’t know who would end up in goal, but Chloe took that challenge well,” Krakowiak said. “She made some amazing saves, kept us in a lot of games, and she is a very smart goalkeeper who reads the game well. Chloe is very competitive, and all of those things helped establish herself in goal for us.” Similar to the void in between the posts was the vacancy left by 2014 senior outside backs Jennifer Johnson and Jessie Mancilla. Just as Hopps exceeded expectations, freshmen Kienna Ogden and Sarah Coghlan did so by starting the majority of matches on the defensive unit. 68 | 2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com
Coghlan racked up 1,494 minutes and started 13 of 17 games at right back for MSUB. The Billings Senior High School graduate notched her first career assist in MSUB’s 4-1 road win over Saint Martin’s on Oct. 3, and placed five of her eight shots on target. Ogden started a dozen matches and also played in all 17 on the left side, playing 1,175 minutes in her first season. She and Coghlan worked to complement Lokay and Kastelic on a defensive unit that earned six shutouts. “Our outside backs were two of the top positions to be filled, and we knew it would come down to two freshmen jumping in and playing a lot of minutes,” Krakowiak commented. “Sarah and Kienna did an outstanding job taking the challenge and running with it. They adjusted to the positions and the college game very well.” Providing consistency as a defensive midfielder, and also pushing forward for a crucial offensive burst was junior Brittney Greenback. She started seven matches and played in all 17 in 969 total minutes on the year. Among her team third-most 28 shots, Greenback found the net on the road against Western Oregon, scoring the only goal in a huge 1-0 shutout win. The goal was the first of Greenback’s career, as she has been in the program for three seasons as a midfielder. “Brittney has a great presence in the middle, and she scored her first collegiate goal with an amazing shot,” Krakowiak said. “As a holding mid, she is very aggressive, gets stuck into tackles, and she sets the tone from the beginning of the game. She is going to be an important player for us going forward.” In addition to Greenback, juniors Lindsay Lucore and Hayley Warren each saw significant time in their first season with the ‘Jackets. Lucore saw action in a dozen games, starting nine as an outside back while playing 599 minutes. After transferring from Shoreline Community College, Warren played in 14 matches as a forward and had a pair of assists while taking 17 shots for the ‘Jackets. “Lindsay gave us some awesome minutes playing in the back,” Krakowiak said. “She started some games and came off the bench, and she was always competitive in games and in training. “Hayley has tremendous talent and has a strong presence on the field,” Krakowiak continued. “We are happy she ended up at MSUB and she can be dangerous as a forward.” Another big offensive piece for MSUB this season was freshman Bailey Griglio, who scored three times in her debut season. Finding the net twice against Saint Martin’s on Oct. 3 and again against the Saints at home on Oct. 17, Griglio netted six points while playing in all 17 matches in 2015. “Bailey is a very technical player who has good skills on the ball,” Krakowiak said. “She definitely reads the game well and her soccer I.Q. is very high. She scored some nice goals this year, and she has a bright future with us.” Youth is on MSUB’s side moving forward, as several other young players have bright futures within the program. In the conversation next to Hopps in goal are sophomore Jordyn England and freshmen Lili Delgadillo and Kaylee Praska. Delgadillo earned a pair of starts this season, and secured her first career shutout in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at the University of Mary on Sept. 5. Among field players, Dariann Oaks, Jordan Devoto, and Allie Trizna each also saw action during the season. Oaks played in eight games for the ‘Jackets and turned in her first career assist on Oct. 24 on Greenback’s game-winning goal. “We were very excited about the younger players this year, and they all contributed to the team,” Krakowiak said. “They all got a taste of the GNAC tournament, and we hope they now understand how competitive the GNAC is. We are definitely looking forward to coaching them in the spring and getting ready for the 2016 fall season.” Overall as a team, MSUB outscored its opposition 19-18 and ranked fourth in the conference in goals allowed. Krakowiak improved to 49-2811 (.619) over his five seasons in charge of the program, and holds a mark of 36-23-9 (.596) in conference games. He remained No. 2 in career victories at MSUB with 49, trailing nine-year coaching veteran Don Trentham who holds the record with 85. 2016 MSUB Women’s Soccer Media Guide | @MSUBWSoc | www.msubsports.com | 69
