All eligible members of the MSUB women’s cross country team earn all-academic accolades being named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference team. PORTLAND, Ore. – All three eligible members of the MSUB women’s cross country teams were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference 2016 academic all-conference team announced Tuesday. Senior Rio Frame, led the trio of Montana State University Billings cross country team members to earned the accolade. Frame was one of 13 members named to the list for the third time. The native of Glendive, Mont., holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.63. Frame has consistently been in the top-2 for the Yellowjackets this season. Frame finished last week’s GNAC championships hosted by Western Washington in 69th place with a time of 25:07.20. Junior Bailey Bomar was named to the list for the second time in her career. Bomar has finished in the top-5 for MSUB in every race this season. Last week at the GNAC championships, the graduate of Billings West High School improved her results at the finish line by 10 spots with a time of 25:28.70, shaving almost a minute off her time from the 2015 championships. A psychology major at MSU Billings, Bomar holds a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
A first-time honoree, Sarah Beatty was named to the list with a cumulative grade point average of 3.35 in the mathematics teaching discipline. A sophomore for the ‘Jackets, Beatty is also a graduate from Billings West High School. The second year member of the Yellowjackets finished the GNAC championships in 27:36.60. “It says a lot for our team culture, which is to excel in the classroom as well as in competition,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “They all know they’re here to earn a degree first and that’s a priority for all of us.” A total of 61 student-athletes from the GNAC were selected to the women’s all-academic team. The honor roll is led by a pair of runners with a 4.00 GPA: Central Washington sophomore Alexa Shindruk has a 4.00 GPA and is undeclared. Western Oregon sophomore Grace Knapp has a 4.00 GPA as a business major. To be eligible for the GNAC all-academic honor, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of competition at their current school and hold a grade point average of 3.20 or higher. The Yellowjackets have one more event this season. MSU Billings will host the 2016 NCAA Division II west region championships on Nov. 5. The event returns to Billings after MSUB hosted the 2014 meet as competitors will race on the course at Amend Park.
