The MSUB Yellowjacket women are set to race in Spearfish at the Gage McSpadden Memorial Invitational.

The Yellowjacket women’s cross country team is preparing for a challenging event hosted by Black Hills State. BILLINGS, Mont. – The MSUB women’s cross country team is set to compete at their second event of the 2016 season. The Yellowjackets are travelling to Spearfish, S.D. and the Gage McSpadden Memorial Invitational hosted by Black Hills State on Friday, Sept. 9. The Yellowjackets began their 2016 campaign last Friday at the South Dakota Mines Invitational. MSUB placed fourth in the team standings with 75 points. The ‘Jackets posted an averaged time of 20:04.14 in the three mile distance. This week, the Yellowjackets are up against a strong Black Hills State squad. The fellow Yellow Jacket team competed at the Augustana-hosted Twilight last week, finishing ninth overall. BHSU’s top runner Christine Thorn ran the three mile course in 16:54.73.

MSUB sends a slightly different squad to the course this week than last week. The Yellowjackets will have a younger team competing on the hilly path at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club and MSUB head coach Dave Coppock is looking for the ‘Jackets to gain experience during the challenging event. “The women are going to be competing on a tough course against a really good Black Hills State team,” Coppock said. “The team will have to step-up to the challenge, but I am looking forward to seeing what the team can accomplish. We’ll have a couple new freshmen join us this week who did not run last week at SD Mines in Catrina Schuchard and Krysten Mossburg.” Last week’s top-2 finishers for MSUB will not be in attendance this week. Junior Bailey Bomar who finished fourth for the team and 23rd overall at South Dakota Mines with a mark of 20:38.90 will be the senior leader for the Yellowjackets in Spearfish. Also returning from last week’s top-5 are freshmen Nikki Aiken and Lydia Foster. Black Hills State University / Gage McSpadden Memorial Invitational Host
