Sam Zook earned his second GNAC Athlete of the Week honor after a record-breaking performance in Idaho.

Sam Zook earns his second GNAC Athlete of the Week honor after lowering his record in the 60 meters with the fourth fastest time in conference history. PORTLAND, Ore. – After lowering his MSUB school record in the 60 meters, junior Sam Zook was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track Male Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Monday. Zook owned the MSUB record in the 60 meters with a time of 6.90 which he completed twice at the Air Force Academy’s Invitational on Jan. 21. That time was the eighth fastest in GNAC history. Last week, Zook moved up in the GNAC history books to No. 4 with a time of 6.85 at the Mountain State Games in the finals as the sprinter won the event at the D1 Idaho State hosted event in Pocatello, Idaho. “We are really proud to have Sam be named GNAC Athlete of the Week for the second time,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “That is quite an accomplishment. I think it also sets him up really well for the conference championships


this week. He is really confident in his condition and he has been working very hard all winter so it is a nice tribute for him.” Zook was previously named the GNAC’s Male Track Athlete of the Week with his performances last month, taking his career total to two with the honor this week. Zook has been blazing through the season in the 60 meters. Coming into the year, Zook owned the MSUB indoor record in the 60 meters at 7.05, but has since dropped it twice and now holds the second fastest time posted in the GNAC this season. This week the MSUB track and field teams are headed to the GNAC Indoor Championships hosted by Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho, Feb. 17 and 18. Notes: Three MSUB school records were broken during last week’s competitions at the Mountain State Games…Nels Flanagan also lowered his own record in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 54-05.25, placing him at third in the GNAC…the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Jewlz Collins, Josey Smiedala, Janessa Williams, and Brenna Beckett earned a Yellowjacket school record of 4:03.25, bettering a 2011 time of 4:04.44 (Berry, Jackson, Simons, Halle). --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
