20|20 use David Kolb’s learning styles model and Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) to ensure that differing learning styles are addressed and that learning is engaging and highly participative. Kolb’s learning theory sets out four distinct learning styles, which are based on a four-stage cycle of learning, in which ‘immediate or concrete experiences’ provide a basis for ‘observations and reflections’. These ‘observations and reflections’ are assimilated and distilled into ‘abstract concepts’ producing new implications for action which can be ‘actively tested’ in turn creating new experiences. Our facilitators experience in applying a mix of learning styles is supplemented by their own personal development through programmes developed and delivered by Eureka.

PMI or APM / IPMA ? Which Standard is best for you and your organisation?

20|20 are an Accredited Training Organisation of the APM (Association for Project Management), and Global Registered Education Provider of the PMI (Project Management Institute). Our Project Management courses and core course materials are accredited as meeting the standards of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) recognised in 45 countries.

International Project Management Association (IPMA) The largest professional body of its kind in Europe, with 45 member country associations globally, such as the Association for Project Management (APM) in the UK. 20|20 are an Accredited Training Provider and recommend this standard for most of our Clients in Europe. For those seeking accreditation following a training programme, we provide guidance and support for our Clients through the IPMA’s 4-level Competency Model and by providing support services from exam preparation to arranging exams. (APM’s equivalent associations administer IPMA best practice in the other countries). For more information please visit www.ipma.ch or www.apm.org.uk

Although both standards are similar, if you wish to pursue personal accreditation you will need to decide which industry body is the right one for you. Generally the IPMA (through the APM in the UK) provide the more popular standard in Europe, and the PMI elsewhere. However, a key factor is whether your own organisation is already aligned to one of the standards – this may depend on where your organisation is Headquartered or on its own preference. Although both standards are perceived as being similar and broadly equivalent you may need advice on which standard to use, or on specific accreditation levels offered by the different bodies. The 20|20 Business Support Team is here to help with information and guidance so please call us on +44 (0) 1382 730880 or email us at info@2020businessgroup.com. Alternatively, you can find additional information on our web site www.2020businessgroup.com or by visiting the web site of any of the accrediting bodies at www.pmi.org, www.apm.org.uk or www.ipma.ch 20|20 courses provide an accreditation route to all qualifications as shown in the table below;

APM (IPMA) Accreditation Route

Project Management Institute (PMI) The PMI has grown to become a global advocate for the project management profession with more than half a million members in 171 countries. 20|20 are a PMI Global Registered Education Provider (REP) and recommend this standard for most of our Clients outside Europe. Through our PMI Accredited Project Management Professional Programme we offer candidates the option to study towards the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) or the Project Management Professional (PMP®) PMI credential, providing the approved study hours for those with sufficient experience. For more information please visit www.pmi.org

QUALIFICATIONS & ACCREDITATION

Not everyone wants to undertake a formal qualification as many of our programmes are tailored to suit specific client needs, but the option to seek individual accreditation is made available to those who wish to underpin their training achievements with a globally-recognised qualification.

20|20’s programmes are accredited by, and aligned to, The Project Management Institute (PMI)’s Body of Knowledge and also the Association for Project Management (APM)’s Body of Knowledge.

“I received my certification from the Association for Project Management as a Certificated Project Manager, this being the UK Association’s equivalent to the International Project Management Association (IPMA) Level B, Senior Project Manager status. The value of having one’s professional capabilities certified by a leading body, in a specific but almost universally transferrable field of skill sets, transcends the positive message transmitted to one’s Clients and subcontractors. In addition to this there has been a noticeable increase in interest from potential employees and recruitment institutions alike, which lends further credence to the value of this certification within the market place.” Ray Honour Operations Manager Subsea 7, Brazil.

course overview

Effective project leadership is essential in the successful delivery of a projects objectives, however, due to the unique and transient aspects of a project the skills and behaviours required to lead a project team are equally unique.

The objective of this interactive workshop is to distinguish the differences between management and leadership and then to look at leadership specifically within a project environment. The workshop will then explore the differing leadership behaviours required throughout the project life cycle and how the style of leadership needs to change as the project progresses.

competency assessment 20|20 can provide a complete competence assessment programme for project teams using the international competency frameworks from either the Association for Project Management (APM) linked to the IPMA International Competence Baseline, or the Project Management Institute (PMI). These frameworks can also be adapted to provide for additional competencies relevant to your organisation.

The APM’s Project Management Competence Framework consists of Competencies which have been grouped into Technical, Behavioural and Contextual dimensions. The Competence Framework is based on a National Competency Baseline (NCB) which is aligned to the International Project Management Association (IPMA)’s International Competence Baseline (ICB) – providing a competency assessment model recognised by IPMA National Associations in 45 countries.

As an APM Approved Training Provider, 20|20 is licensed to use the APM’s Competency Framework to undertake individual assessments and provide a detailed assessment report for each person assessed. For an individual this can provide the competency assessment criteria requirements for the APM’s 4 level accreditation structure and the planned Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status. For an organisation it can provide a well-structured model for assessing individual competence – either as part of a Performance Management Report process, Assessment Centre or Talent Management process. Team or Company-wide reports can be produced to provide information on areas of weakness that can then be targeted.

The PMI’s PMCD Framework is based on the principles and processes of the PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). It describes the generic competencies needed in most projects, most organisations, and most industries – but can be adapted where necessary to include your own organisation’s competencies where they differ or are unique. The PMI PMCD is based on 5 Performance Domains linked to the PMBOK – Initiating a Project, Planning a Project, Executing a Project, Monitoring & Controlling a Project and Closing a Project. Each process group is mapped to PMCD Performance Criteria and Types of Evidence which can be assessed by a 20|20 Assessor, providing a detailed assessment report for each person assessed. For an organisation it can provide a well structured model for assessing individual competence – either as part of a Performance Management Report process, Assessment Centre or Talent Management process. Team or Company-wide reports can be produced to provide information on areas of weakness that can then be targeted.

More Information 20|20 has worked with a number of clients to assess individuals and teams against the Project Management Competence Assessment Framework and also against client-specific competency frameworks using our qualified and experienced project management competence advisors. 20|20 have also worked with a number of clients in assessing the relevance of their existing competency frameworks in relation to relevant and up-to-date project management competency frameworks or, in the absence of an existing framework, to create a company specific competency framework which will adhere to company relevant project management competency framework/s. These company specific frameworks can be designed for Project Management encompassing all areas, or can be separated into Project Control and Management/Leadership sets of competencies. To arrange a discussion on how Competence Assessment might be used in your own organisation please contact the 20|20 Business Support Team (contact details)

Introduction The delivery of high quality project management training & development is a key step towards improving project management maturity and project management excellence within an organisation. However, this can only be effective if project teams have access to clear in-house guidelines and common processes, documentation and terminology.

for project teams to follow – ensuring a consistent approach that allows project personnel to move between projects using common standards and experience. Ensuring systems and processes are fit for purpose and scalable depending on project complexity provides significant value and efficiency to organisations as part of an integrated approach.

Following a stringent selection process Subsea 7 first engaged 20|20 Business Insight Ltd in 2003 to develop and deliver a bespoke project management training package. Subsequently we have trained in excess of 150 personnel in what is a very complex subject, and the course feedback, formal and informal, has been consistently very good. Of particular note is the quality of trainers provided by 20|20 which, as promised, has remained consistent. The course has now been accredited by the IPMA. Perhaps a further testament of 20|20’s depth is that we also asked them to deliver a proposal to provide leadership training. Based upon a market assessment, and in particular the quality of their proposal and trainers, we have commissioned a series of training to be delivered over the next 6 to 12 months.

hotspots ‘hotspots’ is 20|20’s monthly email communication to our clients and contacts offering special discounts, last-minute offers and ad-hoc industry-specific public style courses. Our company continues to benefit from the quality of product 20|20 has provided, and in that connection I have no difficulty in recommending the company to any prospective users of their services.

Paul Kingsmore, Director, Health Facilities Scotland NHS Health Facilities Scotland has been working in partnership with 20|20 Business Insight for over two years developing and delivering an extensive training and development programme for NHS staff involved in the delivery of a major capital investment programme in NHS facilities. The result has been the delivery of a series of high quality professional development courses in Project Management, Risk Management, Programme and Portfolio Management and Project Board training delivered throughout Scotland, including the development of a Project Management handbook. We look forward to the continuing development of this programme and the ongoing partnership with 20|20 and its team.

Elaine Mottram, Organisational Development Manager, NHS Grampian Asking the Whole Senior Management team from a busy clinical service (when they are a significant part of service delivery) to take 2 days out for training is not a request made lightly. However the need to develop some project management skills and to progress a major project meant that some time out was necessary - the pressure to add value was enormous but 20|20 managed to do just that and the feedback from the group was universally positive. 20|20 was extremely flexible about the content of the course so that the crucial aspects (from a practitioners point of view) were covered and they facilitated the session and the team’s discussions so that the likelihood of the group implementing what they had learned was maximised. The team are still saying that it was the most useful 2 days they have attended for many years!

The feedback received from The Project Management Development programmes 20|20 have run for Technip Subsea7 Asia Pacific was exceptionally positive from the attendees. They found the presenter lively and entertaining and the material covered, which they found very relevant and useful in their current roles, was put across in an easily understood manner. The proof is really in the number of people who recommended the course to others and who wanted to do the next level course. Would highly recommend 20|20!
