fighting summer boredom

Summertime is always bittersweet in our home as we often struggle between finding balance and keeping the peace. You would think living in a household with three girls it would be all “rainbows and unicorns” but that is SO not the case here!! My girls argue about everything and anything, even over who started the argument. It seems the common denominator of these fights is over what to do. They want to play together but can’t all decide on the same thing. If I wasn’t such a mean mom, watching TV or playing video games would be the optimal choice. But for some reason, I’m old school and believe summer break is all about spending time outside with our friends and the neighbors. Some of my fondest memories growing up is riding bikes with the neighborhood kids, going back and forth between all

So what’s a mom to do? I signed my girls up for camp and sent my littlest to her daycare. The result – success!! The girls loved telling each other about all the fun things they did that day and then played together all night so well. A little break from each other was all they needed to find their way back to a no fighting zone. Well, for now. There’s still plenty of summer left to be had. Wish me luck! Take Care,

When summer hits, we look forward to all the events that come to the area. This summer is no different, and a favorite amongst families are the county fairs. We decided to break down a bit of what you’ll find at the LaPorte and Porter County Fair. LaPorte County Fair The 171st annual LaPorte County Fair kicks things off Sunday, July 10 with carnival rides, music, and great live entertainment. On opening day you’ll find the International Demolition Derby along with music under the entertainment tent by Jeff Robinson: Frank Sinatra Show. Other exciting event taking place at the fair include: Figure Eight Demolition Derby, NTPA Tractor Pull, The Paul Bunyan Lumber Jack Show, and an Evening with Martina McBride. Tickets for the shows are available at the fair office and also by calling 800.514.3849. Each year the fair is complimented with large exhibiting commercial, industrial, and consumer products. A recent addition to the grounds has been Pioneer Land. It has been very popular with the public and school children who visit it during the school year. The LaPorte County Fairgrounds is located at 2581 w. State Road 2. The fair runs through July 16. Porter County Fair On Thursday, July 21, the Porter County Fair comes to town with a great combination of fun rides, delicious food, 4-H exhibits and activities, and some great entertainment including the demolition derby and bull riding! Entry into the fair is $7 per person – children under 10 are FREE. And everyone who gets to the fair before 12:00pm gets in FREE!! A 10-punch value pass is available for $40 and for $25 you can get an all-day wristband

(1:00pm-11:00pm).
