Registration

Registration can be completed using our online registration form at www.episcopalcollegiate.org. Complete one registration form per participant.

Payment

Episcopal Collegiate students: The student’s FACTS account will be billed after the conclusion of the class for which he/she is registered. For students not enrolled at Episcopal Collegiate: After completion of the online registration form, send a check payment (payable to Episcopal Collegiate School) to the following address: Episcopal Collegiate School c/o Summer Daze 1701 Cantrell Road Little Rock AR 72201

A receipt will be e-mailed to you once your payment has been processed; this receipt serves as your registration confirmation. Registrations will not be accepted if not accompanied by a check payment or FACTS account authorization.

Class Enrollment

Enrollment is processed in the order by which registration forms and payments are received. Please note that many classes have a maximum capacity and may fill quickly. Registration forms will be processed up until the start of each class as long as the class has not met its maximum capacity.

Class Withdrawals

Students can cancel and/or change classes until June 2, 2017. Requests to withdraw a student from a class will not be honored after this time, with the exception of unforeseen circumstances, such as a medical or family emergency. Payments will not be refunded and the student’s FACTS account will be billed whether or not they attend the class.

Part-time Attendance

Class fees will not be prorated to accommodate partial attendance for any class.

Cancellations

Classes with insufficient enrollment are subject to cancellation with

a full refund. If payment has been made by check, refund checks will be mailed to the address listed on the registration form.

Discontinuances

Participants are expected to adhere to the policies of Episcopal Collegiate School. We reserve the right to dismiss from the program, without refund, any student whose behavior becomes inappropriate, disruptive, or is inconsistent with school policies.

Before-care/After-care

Before-care is available at the Lower School from 7:00 a.m. until the start of the participant’s morning class. After-care is available at the Lower School until 6:00 p.m. Before-care and After-care are offered at no additional charge. However, participants must be registered for at least a morning or afternoon class to attend Before-care or After-care.

Lunch is not provided. Students who are registered for a morning and afternoon class at the Lower School may participate in a supervised lunch period at no additional charge. Students must bring a sack lunch and drink.

Episcopal Collegiate School reserves the right to substitute teachers for any class, if a teacher is unable to teach his or her class as scheduled or for any reason deemed appropriate.

Discovery Day Camp: Science I

Summer Service Camp

Students entering grades 6th through 8th Instructor(s): David Kendrick June 12 – June 23 | 8:00 a – 12:00 p Schedule: $250 Cost: MS 108 (Week 1)/Trinity Episcopal Cathedral (Week 2) Location: In this two-week camp, participants will learn the value of being of service to our community and will have the opportunity to earn all of their community service hours for the upcoming school year. The first week will involve classroom learning and volunteering at Discovery Day Camp, the Lower School’s full-day STEM-focused camp for students entering grades Pre-K4 through 5th. During the first week, we will also enjoy a retreat to the Arkansas 4-H Center, where we will participate in teambuilding exercises. During the second week, we will meet and volunteer at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and Little Rock Preparatory Academy, a charter school for students in grades K through 4th.

Cookies, Cupcakes, and Cake Pops

In this hands-on class, students will bake and decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, brownies and more at our special bakery. Friends and family are welcome to visit the bakery every day to enjoy our fresh baked treats!


Japanese Language and Flea Market Flips Culture Students entering grades 6th through 12th Instructor(s): David House Schedule: June 12 – June 16 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $150 Location: Simpson Upper School Library In this program, students will have the chance to practice basic Japanese language conversation skills. They will also have fun learning about Japanese culture through various activities such as crafts and games.

We will help you flip your find into a keepsake you’ll cherish for many years to come.

Tie Dye Techniques

Students entering grades 4th through 8th Instructor(s): Ruthie Peterson Schedule: June 26 – June 30 | 9:00 a – 12:00 p Cost: $175 Location: LS 203 Students will learn the basics of color blending, as well as a variety of patterns to make some groovy tie-dye creations. Students will tie-dye everything from socks to pillowcases to t-shirts using dyeing materials and techniques used by professionals.

Game of Drones

Students entering grades 4th through 8th Instructor(s): David Kendrick Schedule: June 26 – June 30 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $150 Location: LS 142 This camp is perfect for young novice aviators interested in science, technology, and aviation. Bring your drone, and we’ll take to the skies every day and learn about flying rules and regulations. During our flight, we’ll cover techniques such as yaw, throttle, pitch, and roll. We’ll also have drone races, participate in aerial scavenger hunts, and learn about aerial photography and videography.

3D Animation Studio

Students entering grades 5th through 12th Instructor(s): Christian Rogers Schedule: July 10 – July 21 | 8:00 a – 12:00 p Cost: $300 Location: LS 142 In this two-week class, students will write a story, sketch it, extrude it with clay sculpting, and build it in 3Ds Max animation software. Students will spend the second week working CGI in the engineering building at UALR, and will be able to walk inside their creations in CAVE (Computer Assisted Virtual Environment). This class is an incredible experience that offers great career potential.

MinecraftEdu

MinecraftEdu is an educational platform developed by Carnegie Mellon that uses the popular game to teach math, science, English, foreign language, and social studies. During this two-week session, students will select a topic of interest, submit building contracts, and develop an interactive world to teach their topic to their teachers and peers.

Delicious Destinations

Students entering grades K through 2nd Instructor(s): David Kendrick Schedule: July 10 – July 14 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $150 Location: LS 151 Food is the one thing that connects people globally. Although we may not speak the same language throughout the world, we all eat. In this class, students will learn about other cultures throughout the world by preparing, cooking, and enjoying kid-friendly international recipes. Students will also learn interesting facts about the country, world food facts, and learn a phrase or two in the native language. Bon appetit!

Sew Cute and Cuddly

Students entering grades 1st through 4th Instructor(s): Sophie Hussey Schedule: July 10 – July 14 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $180 Location: LS 204 Learn to sew while making cute stuffed animal friends (owl, rabbit, bear, or monster) and a personalized pillow. Participants will learn to use a sewing machine, and will embellish their projects using hand sewing techniques and applique! Creative Circuitry

In this class, students will learn how to make light-up artwork and a sketchbook using Chibitronics® and LED lights. Chibitronics® are simple circuit stickers that allow students to craft, create, and code a special and unique art design. All materials will be provided.

FIRST LEGO League

Students age 9 – 14 yrs Instructor(s): Christian Rogers Schedule: July 10 – July 21 | 1:30 p – 3:30 p Cost: $175 Location: LS 142 In this class, students will learn about the FIRST program, build with LEGOs®, and program a NXT robotic brick. Machine design and function is a primary goal of this course where students will work with levers, tension, gear ratio, torque and pulleys, and will apply the laws of physics and mathematics to LEGO® competitions.

Ballet and Creative Movement

The goal of this class is to help dancers gain body awareness and control through traditional and modern dance movements. Appropriate dance attire (leotard, tights, ballet shoes) is required to be worn during class.

Little Kids Cook!

Kids will make simple healthy snacks and meals. They will learn about recipes, ingredients and tools, and practice basic cooking skills including measuring, combining, safe cutting, seasoning and presentation. Kids take home extra tastes, recipes, and a cooking utensil.

Our nutrition-based classes are totally hands-on. Best of all – everything is easily doable at home and adults will love these recipes. Participants will build a fairy house, make crowns, and create pixie dusts and stones. On the last day of class, we will host family and friends for a garden party. Pet Care Camp

Students entering grades 2nd through 4th Instructor(s): David Kendrick Schedule: July 24 – July 28 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $125 Location: LS 212 In this class, students will learn about the responsibility of providing proper care for their pet dog, cat, rabbit, bird, or fish. Activities will focus on how to feed, provide water, exercises, bathing, enclosure cleaning techniques, and petting. We will also make nutritious pet treats and snacks.

Stop Motion Animation

Students will use a variety of high-quality art materials to design and craft signature art pieces using their monogram. This is an open studio-style class, in which participants can select from several projects, and will receive specific instruction on completing their projects. This class is open to students of all skill levels.

Keyboarding

Students entering grade 6th through 8th Instructor(s): TBD Schedule: July 24 – August 4 | 2:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $125 Location: LS 142 Keyboarding is a life-long skill that is essential to performing quickly and efficiently in an evergrowing digital world. This course uses the best online course available so students will be expected to practice in class and at home. To receive Typing Master Certification, students must finish this course having completed all 13 Touch Typing Course Lessons and be able to demonstrate they can type without looking at their hands.

We will explore water and bubble sciences, play with water balloons, build and race sailboats, go on “fishing” trips, build a waterway, and lots more! Students are encouraged to wear swimwear and sunscreen under their clothes, and should bring dry clothes to change into after class.

Needles and Threads

Football Camp

Athletics

Students entering grades 1st through 6th Instructor(s): Coach Michael Carter Schedule: June 5 – June 7 | 9:00 a – 11:30 a Cost: $125 Location: Football Field In this camp, participants will learn basic and advanced fundamentals of youth football. The camp focuses on playing football the Wildcat way through attention to detail, and playing smart, safe, and fun. Participants will be grouped by age, and will receive position-specific instruction, but will also learn the basics of all positions, including kicking and punting. All equipment will be provided.

Volleyball Camp

Girls entering grades 6th through 12th Instructor(s): Molly Keith Schedule: June 5 – June 9 | 9:00 a – 11:30 a Cost: $150 Location: Championship Gym (MS/US) This high-energy camp is perfect for female athletes looking to learn the fundamentals of volleyball. Participants will build and develop basic skills including serving, hitting, passing, and setting; and will have the opportunity to use these skills in game situations. The drills used in this camp are designed to prepare athletes for competitive play, and to help them strive in a team atmosphere.

Archery Camp

Students entering grades 4th through 7th Instructor(s): David Kendrick Schedule: June 5 – June 9 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $125 Location: Erwin Hall Performance Center and Gymnasium (LS) In this camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of archery including target shooting, safety rules, stance and nocking, drawing and loading, aiming, and proper scoring techniques. Additional topics to be covered are identifying

parts of the arrow and bow, range set-up, and proper care of equipment.

NIKE® Boys Basketball Camp II

Boys entering grades 3rd through 9th Instructor(s): Coach Brandon Friedel and Elite Hoops Staff Schedule: July 10 – July 14 | 9:00 a – 3:00 p* Cost: $275 Location: Championship Gym This camp will focus on individual skills improvement through our morning skill stations and afternoon 3-on-3 leagues. Each participant will also play in one 5-on-5 game and participate in our Living by Numbers contests each day. This camp provides a perfect opportunity to prepare for your school, recreational, or AAU season. All NIKE® basketball camps maintain a player-tocoach ratio of 8:1, and are staffed by high school and collegiate coaches and players. Each camp is limited to the first 96 participants that register. Lunch will not be provided, but a concession stand will be available with pizza, snacks, and drinks. Each player will receive a NIKE® t-shirt, yearbook, camp certificate, and a hand-written evaluation from the coaching staff. *Camp will end at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16; Friday, June 23; and Friday, July 14.

Baseball Camp

Students entering grades 1st through 9th Instructor(s): Coach Richie Marsh Schedule: July 17 – July 21 | 9:00 a – 11:30 a Cost: $150 Location: Football Field/Indoor Batting Facility Staffed by current varsity Wildcats and former college players, this camp focuses on developing skills and fundamentals for all players and positions. The camp will utilize the school’s brand new on-campus indoor batting facility. Drills include defensive work for all positions, pitching, catching, proper throwing/batting mechanics, and base-running. Camp includes end-of-camp drill competitions and prizes.

Basketball Camp

Students entering grades 3rd and up Instructor(s): Coach Carl Vault Schedule: July 31 – August 2 | 8:00 a – 12:00 p Cost: $125 Location: Championship Gym This exciting three-day camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3rd through 12th. The main goal of the camp is to teach players proper basketball fundamentals through drills and techniques for ball handling, shooting, defense, and agility. Players will be grouped by grade and gender, and will receive personalized coaching to address to their individual needs. Coaching staff includes Coach Carl Vault, varsity players, and a special appearance by Utah Jazz forward-guard Joe Johnson.

Cheer Camp

Students entering Kindergarten through 5th Instructor(s): Molly Thicksten Schedule: July 31 – August 4 | 1:00 p – 4:00 p Cost: $150 Location: Erwin Hall Performance Center and Gymnasium

During this camp, participants will learn all aspects of cheerleading such as jumps, stunts, tumbling, motions, cheers, and dance. This camp is a great way to build self-esteem and teambuilding skills. Throughout the week, participants will work on an awesome group routine and perform for family and friends on the last day of camp.


Credit Courses Credit courses will count towards graduation credit and are open to new or returning Episcopal students only.

Health

Students entering grades 9th through 12th Instructor(s): Jo Stoltz, Kara Lenfestey Orientation: Friday, May 26 | 10:30 a – 12:00 p Schedule: June 5 – July 7 Meetings: June 5 or June 21 | 8:00 a – 12:00 p Cost: $375 Location: Online/Erwin Middle School Library Upper School Health is primarily an online course* that will take an in-depth look at the total well-being of one’s mind, body, and spirit. Students will learn many aspects of health, including self-esteem, decision making, goal setting, fitness, nutrition, social interaction skills, dealing with loss and grief, managing stress, mental illnesses and other diseases, awareness and effects of tobacco, the hazards and consequences associated with high risk behavior involving alcohol, drugs, and sexual behavior decisions. Students will also be able to demonstrate Student CPR. Teaching methods will include PowerPoint, lecture, discussion, videos, worksheets, and required projects and tests. This course counts for graduation credit in health. The majority of the online coursework will be done through Haiku. However, the course does require meeting on campus for orientation on May 26th, and either June 5th or June 21st as detailed above. A course syllabus will be provided at orientation. Registration for Health closes on Friday, May 12, 2017.

Communications: Storytelling in a Global Age Students entering grades 9th through 12th

Instructor(s): Lara Beard Schedule: June 5 – June 23 | 9:00 a – 12:00 p (see additional scheduling info below) Cost: $350 Location: B 116 This course addresses students’ abilities to develop original ideas about the world around them, to understand various audiences and global perspectives, to research and implement appropriate resources and technology, and to express clear personal perspectives reflecting their enhanced awareness through effective interpersonal and intrapersonal communications. Students will work individually and collaboratively to discover and present new information and advocate for real solutions in a complex and changing world. Class meeting times are Monday through Thursday only from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; No face-to-face classes on Fridays. This class also requires 12 hours of online course work outside of scheduled meeting times. Online course work includes readings, online reflections, and an e-Portfolio. Final project is due/will be presented on Thursday, June 22.

Non-Credit Courses

Non-credit courses are open to new and returning Episcopal Collegiate students, as well as non-Episcopal Collegiate students.

Algebra I Summer Refresher

Students entering grades 9th through 12th Instructor(s): Kara Lenfestey Schedule: July 24 – August 4 | 9:00 a -12:00 p Cost: $175 Location: MS 209 This two-week course is a great refresher for students taking Algebra II or a higher-level course in the coming school year. The following topics will be reviewed: equations, polynomials, factoring, algebraic equations, linear equations, systems of equations, inequalities, radicals, and the quadratic equation. Students must have successfully completed Algebra I to enroll in this course.
