Design Metaphor The design was derived from Malaysian culture in which the three sided form represents the three main races in Malaysia which is Malay, Chinese and Indian.

The three main races tell the story of multiculturalism in Malaysia. The form then enveloped by a facade derived from Agong’s tengkolok songket pattern which shows that all the races in Malaysia is united in one administration.

05

The base form is three sided form that derived from the concept representing the three main races in Malaysia.

Along with the symbolic concept of unity in diversity of cultures; the building also intended to promote the malaysian nature. Wind tunnel is created from all wind direction to create breeze efect in the building.

B r i d ges o n the u pper fl oor i s c rea t e d to connect between buildings and the convex circular bridge can enhance views toward the lake also function as viewing spot. Water features then added into the building to collaborate with nature as the theme for the building.

The form then adjusted to the site context, then the sided angle are adjusted pointing towards three main views which is the Milenium Monumen, Seri Wawasan Bridge and the main road; largest face of the building is facing towards the lake.

The building is seperated into three main building based on the purpose which is administration, entertainment and retails to let views from the outside of the building to penetrate into the building and creating the focal point at the courtyard.

To maximize the exploitation of the existing lake, the water from the lake is pumped into the site then let flow back into the lake creating artificial flowing river through the site. Songket as a skin for the building is also applied to achieve the metaphorical concept; the three sided building being enveloped by tengkolok. 06

01 Schedule of Accommodation Since the building is public building and the purpose of the building is to serve the tourist, most of the programs are public spaces. The design try to combine as much public space programs together while isolate the private space. The programs is designed toward reaction to one of the site forces which is the lake. Tourist attraction area such as retails and entertainment is placed side by the lake while the administration is placed near the entrance and main road.

The tourism complex also to promote and incorporate with “green architecture, as to respond to the enviromental issues either globally or locally. The large amount of greenery throughout the plan make the building consume a lots of water; therefore a system to sustain the usage of water must be incorporated within the building. As Malaysia is catogorised as equatorial climate which being hot and humid throughout the year, rain water harvesting is really suitable to be intergrate in building. The irregular roof form helps to collect water efficiently from the roof and drain in both end of the roof.

Multipurpose Courtyard

The water from the lake is pumped into the site then let flow back into the lake; creating a water pond and artificial flowing river throughout the site. The water pond also can be function as a courtyard for any event to be held at the complex by shutting down the pump then all water that fill the courtyard area will flow back into the lake; only left the water in reservoir.

Water Circulation

The water from the lake is pumped and filtered into the reservoir through underground water tunnel.

The excessive water in the reservoir will flow into the courtyard area and fill the courtyard with water.

The excessive water in the courtyard will flow back into the lake and the water channel.

The water in the water channel will all flow towards the end of the site and flow back into the lake creating artificial flowing river through the site.
