The traditional function of a monument is to remind, or to warn the future about the past. Architecturaly, this takes the form of statues or grand gesture with explicit reference towards the past. Monument however is the past form of representing the past. It is becoming more fashionable for architects or artists to impose monumentality in their work through implicit references towards history.

Cultural monument can be define in two ways. One is to reflect on the ‘monumental’ events in the history or understanding figures that has shaped the history. The other way is through the investigation of arts whereby the intepretation can be argued. While these artworks might explicitly refers to a certain part of the history, the authors intention and meaning can be left up for debates.

The spatial quality is the defining part of the architecture of a traditional monument. These spaces were designed to evoke certain atmosphere, thus heighten the impact of the monument to the visitors. In many cases, modern squares unintendedly becomes a monument due to how the public used the space. Such example is the Tiananmen Square.

The merger of three suburban types. What happened when an airport, an industrial park and a typical residential suburb are merged into one singel suburb. The project aims to investigate the future example of an airpark typology.
The relic the project aims to provide is a new suburban typology for an airpark and a sense of amnety not commonly associated with airport.

The acoustic map define the architecture of the suburb. This depends on the location of the building. Buildings located inside the 30 line need to be build with heavy material as only industrial building can be build that close to the airport. Residential can only be lcoaetd outside the 20 line.
The project looks at finding ways to go around of the acoustic map by appropriate material on the programs depending on the location.
