WHAT IS MULLAN?
Nestled in the lush heartlands of Ireland, north of Monaghan town through Emyvale, lies Mullan Village. The name “Mullan” comes from the Irish word “an muileann”, meaning “the mill”.
Established in the 1840’s, Mullan has always been a hive of creativity and craftsmanship. Over the years, the mill has served various purposes, from a flax mill to a boot factory, and now it houses Mullan Lighting. Today, Mullan continues its legacy of craftsmanship, producing bespoke and tailored light fixtures, symbolizing quality, durability, and good value.

Founded in 2009 by Mike Treanor, our mission has been to craft high-quality, durable lights that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. 1850
A flax mill, with its associated mill race and workers’ cottages, is developed on the site in Mullan village. The mill remained operational until the early 20th century.
The shoe factory closes. The nearby border road also closes due to The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The factory would lie idle for the next 30 years. By 1990 most of the mill cottages are abandoned and the village is all but deserted.

A shoe factory is established in the old mill and Mullan Village is once again a bustling rural center. The factory employed over 80 people at its height and manufactured the Mill Brand and the Border Brand footwear.
Mullan Lighting expands its product range from traditional pub and church lighting to vintage and industrial-style lighting. The company begins to export to the United Kingdom.
2012
2009
Mullan Lighting is established by Mike Treanor inside the old mill building. At the same time the mill houses in the village are faithfully restored and life is brought back to Mullan once more.
2013
Mullan Lighting attends its first international trade show, MAISON&OBJET, in Paris. Subsequent trade shows in Germany, Stockholm and the United Kingdom help establish the Mullan Lighting brand across Europe.
Mullan Lighting’s product quality and speed of manufacture becomes recognized more and more. We become the choice lighting supplier for Costa Coffee, Hilton Hotels, the Hard Rock Cafe and Superdry retail stores.
2015 2017
Mullan Lighting, now with 60 employees, completed a major outdoor decorative lighting project in Dubai. This spurred our R&D and we greatly expanded our outdoor and bathroom fixtures range.
Mullan Lighting completes the manufacture of dozens of bespoke light fixtures for the iconic Café en Seine in Dublin, Ireland. We continue to invest in product development and to expand our range of decorative light fixtures.
The Mullan Ceramics brand is launched. Our range of ceramic lighting grows as our in-house ceramicists focus on new designs, finishes and textures.

The Mullan Lighting team of experienced designers and craftspeople - many of whom live in the restored mill houses of Mullan Village - continues to grow and develop.
With over 100 skilled team members, Mullan lighting continues to grow. A new expansion is planned with increases to our product ranges and manufacturing capacity.

In the prestigious Villa Rosau in Zurich, Switzerland, our custom lighting project features stunning fixtures adorned with golden ginkgo leaves. The high ceilings of the dining room are graced by grand chandeliers, meticulously constructed so that the ginkgo leaves encircle the fixture, casting light both upwards and downwards.
This thoughtful design ensures a balanced and luxurious illumination that enhances the room’s elegant atmosphere.
Additionally, the wall sconces, each crafted with a single ginkgo leaf, disperse a warm golden glow across the room, complementing the chandeliers. Together, these custom fixtures create a cohesive lighting scheme that bathes the dining room in a gentle, golden light, perfect for fine dining experiences. The combination of ambient and direct lighting, facilitated by the ginkgo leaf design, adds a touch of nature-inspired elegance to the space.
The custom lighting at Churchill Bar features opal glass spheres encased in an open lattice of brass. These elegant fixtures are combined with lush green plant life, creating a harmonious blend of clean lines and organic elements.
This design enhances the bar’s sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting a balance between modernity and nature.
Suspended from the ceiling, these fixtures support cascading leafy green plants, adding a touch of natural beauty to the clean, structured design. The antique brass finish matches the cooler tones of the décor, while the greenery complements the room’s emphasis on plants. The blue and green tones provide a relaxing feel, echoing the calming colors of nature amidst the bustling heart of London.
Café Georgette features a custom ceiling light comprising large rounded rectangles of neon, suspended by matte black arms. The central rectangle is perpendicular to the others, creating a dynamic visual effect. The aim was to enhance the room’s aesthetic, which includes tall mirrors and arched wall sections, accentuating the design and color palette without overwhelming it.
The ambient lighting provided by this installation creates a cohesive and inviting atmosphere, highlighting the café’s vibrant décor and unique charm.
The combination of horizontal rectangles at different heights, and a central rectangle with more squared corners, creates a layered and structured look. This installation enhances the room’s aesthetic without overshadowing it, providing a soft, ambient glow that complements the vibrant colors and design elements of Café Georgette.
In this lighting project for Café en Seine in Dublin, the custom lighting fixtures draw inspiration from Art Deco design, creating a cohesive and visually striking ambience. A prominent feature is the large, custom-made fixture that spans the length of the bench seat, suspended by catenary wire, giving the illusion of floating. This fixture includes the café’s name along its edge and integrates chandeliers with opal glass globes on polished brass arms in various angles, blending straight lines, curves, and angles to produce a captivating and gentle ambient light.
Additionally, the space is adorned with two different designs of chandelier, both art-deco inspired. These fixtures collectively contribute to a well-thought-out lighting aesthetic that enhances the café’s luxurious and sophisticated décor.

The custom lighting at The Montenotte Hotel exemplifies how tailored lighting solutions can transform a space. The 8+8 chandelier and Turku table lamps not only fulfill functional lighting requirements but also contribute significantly to the hotel’s distinctive character and charm. The result is a beautifully illuminated environment that enhances the guest experience and underscores the hotel’s commitment to high-quality design and craftsmanship.
This custom chandelier, created for The Dead Rabbit in New Orleans, showcases the craftsmanship and creativity that define our bespoke projects.
Adorned with moss and ivy, the chandelier creates a captivating focal point, casting a soft, inviting glow that enhances the cozy, intimate ambience of The Dead Rabbit. The integration of natural elements, like the plants hung around the fixture, further adds to the organic atmosphere. This unique lighting piece harmonizes beautifully with the stone and wood interior, contributing to the rustic elegance of the space. DECK BRASSERIE
Stockholm, Sweden
DECK Brasserie combines standard lights with tailor-made options to create a sophisticated and cohesive design. They include the Oranmore wall sconce in polished brass with a black powder-coated band around a glass sphere, and the Duleek chandelier, a black ring-shaped fixture with bare bulbs mounted on polished brass joints. Custom pendants above the bar feature design elements from the Oranmore, supported by specially shaped brass mounts.
Innovative custom table lighting includes glass globes suspended on geometric curved arms, mounted to the backrest of the fixed seating. This design is interspersed with bare bulb spoked chandeliers and pendants featuring small brass shades, ensuring a perfect blend of atmospheric and task lighting.
The chandeliers in The Ivy Collection beautifully complement the Victorian-inspired floral décor. These custom fixtures are crafted from satin brass, featuring two tiers, each connected by a brass ring. The central opal glass globe includes a satin brass band around its circumference, adding a touch of elegance to the design. This combination creates a cohesive and luxurious atmosphere, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the dining space.
The satin brass and opal glass elements harmonize with the lush greenery and vibrant patterns, casting a warm and inviting glow. The first fixture is an impressive 18-meter-long light installed in a stairwell, serving as a primary light source spanning multiple floors. Constructed in sections for ease of transport, this fixture features opal diffusers encased in clear rods that scatter and diffract light, creating a warm and inviting glow. Finished in bronze, it adds a touch of elegance to the vertical space.
Another highlight of this project is a pair of fixtures –one ceiling-mounted and one mounted on a pillar. These fixtures consist of multiple opal tubes that gently diffuse light, capped with flush-fitting bronze-finished metal that connects the supporting arms.
We also created a linear uplight that diffuses light against a rattan shade, reflecting organic warmth into the room. Supported by two solid arms, this fixture combines natural materials with beautiful, modern design.

PEARSE LYONS DISTILLERY

Pearse Lyons Distillery, housed in a beautifully restored church in Dublin, features custom chandeliers designed to honor the building’s heritage. The chandeliers are crafted from steel and copper, with intricate crosses cut out, symbolizing the building’s past as a place of worship. The chandeliers have metal bands arching down to a copper dome suspended below, providing an ornate and Gothic design that matches the architectural elements of the space.
These chandeliers not only serve as a functional light source but also as a decorative element that complements the Gothic architecture of the space. The copper interiors reflect light beautifully, adding warmth and depth to the distillery’s atmosphere, making it a truly unique and memorable space.
Shelbourne Social, a renowned restaurant in Dublin, features custom pendant lights that bring an elegant touch to its sophisticated décor. These custom lighting fixtures are opal glass globes suspended from solid brass bars, providing a striking visual appeal. Each globe is framed with polished brass, adding a touch of luxury and refinement to the overall design. The brass frames include a wide band around the center, laser-cut with the Shelbourne’s name, allowing light to pass through and creating a unique and captivating lighting effect.
The construction of these lights is as functional as it is beautiful. The globes are suspended by a short length of chain that connects to the brass bar that not only allows for a degree of movement but also reduces the mechanical force exerted on the bar, ensuring the longevity and stability of the fixture.
In the Brewhouse project in Kilkenny, Ireland, the large multi-floor lobby is adorned with an impressive light sculpture. This installation consists of circular sections arranged as broken rings, creating a striking visual of a futuristic tunnel. These rings are suspended vertically from each other, forming a continuous yet segmented design that reaches down 5.5 meters (18 feet) with a diameter of 4.4 meters (14.4 feet). The suspended rings provide a captivating centerpiece, blending modern aesthetics with functional illumination.
Each section of the light sculpture is carefully crafted to maintain uniformity and balance, ensuring that the overall structure remains visually cohesive while providing ample lighting. The vertical arrangement of the rings creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the architectural features of the lobby.

For this project in Stockholm, we handcrafted tall, yellowglazed table lamps featuring dynamic curves and petal-like lampshades. This design adds depth and elegance, making it a standout piece in the interior décor.
The second lamp showcases an abstract shape with two ‘legs’ and a brass lamp holder. Inspired by the 1970’s lava lamps, its muted earthy finish gives it a modern artistic appeal, blending nostalgia with contemporary design.
The final lamp is a cylindrical wall sconce with a concave surface and an opal glass globe. This piece offers a bold yet minimalist design, serving as a subtle yet important element in the room’s overall décor. Each lamp is meticulously handmade, ensuring unique character and craftsmanship.

In a luxurious private residence in Hong Kong, custom twotier chandeliers serve as the focal points in both the living and dining areas, exuding both grandeur and refinement. These custom pieces feature an elegant design with three bulbs on the inner, upper arms, and six on the wider, lower arms. Each bulb fitting includes a small brass dish reminiscent of a wax-catcher on a candle holder, adding a touch of vintage charm.
The bulb holders are mounted on brass arms that connect to a central hub. This hub is suspended by gracefully arcing brass arms that extend up to the ceiling mount, creating a visually captivating structure. The antique brass finish of the chandeliers complements the sophisticated décor of the residence, making them statement pieces without overwhelming the space.

Brighton, England
The Hilton Brighton showcases custom lights with matte black brass supports and opal glass spheres, creating a clean, modern vibe. The floor lamp features three glass globes, one extending from the main support and two at either end of an angled crossbar, adding a sleek touch that complements the hotel’s interior.
The table lamps echo this aesthetic, with a glass globe on a square brass arm, blending straight matte black lines with gentle opal glass curves, enhancing the room’s sophistication.
Bedside lights have opal glass spheres held by two arms forming a tight oval, meeting the globe’s top and bottom. This consistent design language creates a cohesive and stylish look, tying together the décor and providing a welcoming environment for guests.
Two of the standout custom lighting fixtures in this project are a three-arm wall sconce and a large copper linear fixture suspended above the breakfast buffet area.
The three-arm wall fixtures are designed with elegance and symmetry in mind. Each brass arm bends gracefully to support a conical shade, giving the appearance of three separate lights projecting from the wall. This design not only provides ample ambient light but also complements the creamy walls, black-pine-green sofa, and brown leather chairs, adding a sophisticated touch to the space.
The large copper linear pendant is another key feature, shedding plenty of light onto the breakfast buffet. Its design includes regular decorative vents around the perimeter of the shade, allowing light to diffuse beautifully. The copper finish perfectly matches the warm tones of the wooden furniture, while contrasting nicely with all other elements.
For the Liseberg project in Gothenburg, Sweden, the lighting installation exudes strong Izakaya vibes, creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere. This unique cluster of lights draws heavily from traditional East Asian design, featuring a variety of stylistic elements that contribute to a rich and eclectic ambience.
Central to the design are the paper parasols, each handpainted with images of birds, foliage, and fish, evoking the serene beauty of Asian art. These parasols create a tranquil environment reminiscent of traditional Asian outdoor settings, adding a touch of cultural authenticity.
This harmonious blend of elements results in a captivating and atmospheric lighting display, perfectly suited for the vibrant and lively setting of Liseberg, inviting guests to experience the warmth and friendliness of an Izakayainspired environment.
The Titanic Hotel in Belfast showcases lighting that reflects its maritime heritage. Custom fixtures throughout the hotel evoke early 20th-century elegance and industrial charm, honoring the RMS Titanic’s legacy. In the main dining and lounging areas, chandeliers with rope detailing and exposed bulbs create a nautical ambience. The ropes drape elegantly, adding texture and interest, while vintagestyle bulbs provide a warm, inviting glow that enhances the sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.
Additional nautical-themed lights include pulley-style wall fixtures and brass-finished table lamps with dome shades. The wall sconces offer focused task lighting and contribute to the overall aesthetic. The brass table lamps provide soft, ambient light, aligning with the historical theme. Combined with the hotel’s décor and artifacts, these fixtures create a cohesive and immersive experience, paying homage to Belfast’s shipbuilding history and the iconic Titanic.
In the vibrant setting of Vagabond Bar and Kitchen at Heathrow Airport, custom lighting plays a central role in creating an inviting atmosphere. The three-tier chandeliers, composed of glass rods held in place by black rings, diffuse light beautifully, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication. These chandeliers not only illuminate the space but also become focal points, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the bar and kitchen area.
Complementing the chandeliers, a series of pendant lights with prismatic shades are arranged organically across the entranceway. These prismatic shades catch and reflect light in a manner that harmonizes with the chandeliers, creating a cohesive lighting design.
63rd & 1st cocktail and food bar achieves a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere through a meticulously curated selection of opal glass light fixtures. The design integrates ceiling-mounted single globes and stunning chandeliers, each comprising of seven globes on satin brass arms, to create a cohesive and elegant lighting scheme.
The single globe lights are strategically positioned across the ceiling, offering a soft, diffused glow that enhances the space’s ambience. Meanwhile, the chandeliers serve as striking statement pieces, providing both visual interest and warm, ambient light.
In the bar area, the lighting fixtures are arranged in a gridlike pattern, aligning with the wooden ceiling paneling to ensure both functional brightness and visual satisfaction. This arrangement is perfect for task lighting while maintaining a harmonious design.
In the Hoxton Hotel in Amsterdam, our custom lighting solutions take center stage, enhancing the chic and contemporary vibe of the establishment. The primary fixture is a custom chandelier featuring an intriguing design of opal glass globes. These globes are mounted on a geometric framework of brass rods, arranged symmetrically to create a visually captivating structure. The chandelier’s antique brass finish adds a touch of vintage elegance, perfectly complementing the hotel’s sophisticated interior design.
The opal glass globes emit a warm, diffused light, creating an inviting ambience throughout the space. The brass framework provides a sleek, modern contrast to the soft glow of the globes, ensuring the fixture is both stylish and functional. This project involved the meticulous restoration of vintage hurricane lanterns, transforming them from their rusted and worn state to beautifully restored pieces. The original lanterns were carefully disassembled, cleaned, and any rust was removed. The metal frames were then repainted, and the glass components were cleaned as new. Rewiring was also carried out to ensure the lanterns are safe for use. During the restoration process, each component was carefully handled to preserve the lanterns’ original charm while enhancing their durability and functionality.
The restored hurricane lanterns retain their historical integrity while being revitalized to serve as both functional and decorative lighting pieces. These lanterns now feature a fresh, clean look with vibrant colors, making them suitable for both modern and traditional settings. This restoration project showcases our dedication to preserving the historical value of vintage items.
