Gang of fake watch sellers has again hurt the reputation of our city. This time they was a problem with some American soldiers who were in Thailand to participate in the “Cobra Gold” joint military exercise. The incident happen in front of a bar located at the top of Soi 8 on Pattaya Beach Road, very near to Pattaya Police Station. The watch seller had an argument with the American soldiers and it escalated to a regular fight with friends of the watch seller joining the fight. The police have arrested the watch seller and charged him with a violation of the penal code section 275 allegedly offering or selling products of counterfeit trademark products, with a
penalty of up to 1 year in jail and a fine of 2,000 baht. The watch seller and his brother has paid a fine of 5,000 baht for the fighting and the soldiers have paid each 1,000 baht. The case went viral around the world on social network, and the public has now called upon the Thai government to take action against these hawkers. Unfortunately it is not the first time these watch seller gangs are making trouble with tourists here, for years it has been known how aggressive and troublesome these people are, and when people complain to them, they laugh and tell that they are protected by big powers. Lets hope something will be done about this nuisance.

CONDOTEL
Here in Thailand especially in the big cities, in areas near large business districts the real estate trends are leasing and sub-leasing rather than buying and selling properties. But there are downsides to this form of busi-
ness, such as when you have a lease holder who owns the land with three or four extended subleases leading to confusion, misunderstandings and contract struggles. This chain of sub-leasing is a flawed system that is open to exploitation and I have seen
ISSUE 600 ď Ź APRIL 2018
many cases where a leasee did not know that the person who they were leasing from was just another sub-leasee and not the lease holder. The problem will normally start when one main sub-leasee de-
cides to develop the property either as a business space, condominium or a hotel and then subsequently leasing it out to a number of other buyers at a higher price. These parties will be without the knowledge of who the main lease holder is and will think
that the project developer is also the property owner. After the building is finished the developer will then sell the right to lease a room or segregated space. The selling price is calculated using the rental rate over ten, twenty to thirty years depending on the length of the lease. This amount can come up to be millions and normally paid upfront to facilitate the payments of the project developer to the main lease holder. Because of the nature of the contracts if a previous sub-leaser does not make his lease payments then the whole system will fall apart as the property owner will demand his building back if he is not receiving any money. This leaves the people occupying the space in a very bad situation as even though they have a contract and have paid money, they did not in fact have any right to the space. Our comment: On a situation like this we recommend you to double check with any project developer to make sure that they
have the right from the landlord to lease to you. Also, with any lease longer than three years you are required to register your name under the title deed which is done at the land department. When we have a case like this in a court it is a very complicated situation for everyone involved because by law if the land owner does not receive payment from the first sub-leasee then he has
the right to reclaim his property. With this example we don’t want to concentrate on who is cheating who, but rather to make sure that when you come to make a contract together, the person who you are making it with has the right to sign this contract with you. If not then you may lose a lot of time and money as it is very difficult to prove your rights in the court. Whenever it is necessary
to make a contract please use a lawyer to check it for you and to protect yourself. If you have your own case or any questions regarding law in Thailand please feel free to write to us and we will answer any questions or concerns in this column. DR.KAMALJIT SINGH HEALTH TIPS:Foot Detox Spa For several decades, with the development of science, there are all kinds of theories about diseases and caducity The Russian biologist and physiologist, Metchnikoff a winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine, said in his theory of chronic poisoning, all kinds of toxins in the human body will bring about chronic poisoning. It is possibly one of the main factors, in people suffering diseases, and premature Aging/ senility. Healthcare experts and scholars worldwide comment, if people doesn’t keep a healthy dietary regime, there could be
around 5kg. Of toxin accumulated in their body. “We can say most have toxins in their body”. For an adult, there is around 3kg. ~25kg. Of toxin distributed in different organs including every cell, lymph and skin. The famous Russian (Metchnikoff) and Ukraine experts in detoxification reached the following conclusion based on detoxification therapy with a large data base of patients over many years. The following data has been accumulated, From detoxification studies with many pa-

Over a lifetime (or in the case of an ecological disaster, an alarmingly short time), the human body assimilates a number of toxins. Some of these are in
such trace amounts that we really needn’t worry about them, but it is still wise to eliminate as many toxins in the diet and from your body as possible. · If your using a Rife Matching,, eliminating the dead tumor tissue from the body as quickly as possible is always a bonus · If you are doing a liver detox the ionic foot spa, can aid faster detox · The Diagnostic system incorporated in this unit will let you know the health of the Meridians in the whole body Detox The human body is constituted of cells. And the cell is made up of cell membranes, cytoplasm and nucleolus. The cell membrane is the important channel for the substance exchange and stability inside and outside the cell. When the membranes electricity potential is from -70~-90MV, the cell can work well, and remove toxins. With the decay of the bodies function, toxins
cause our cells are electric. Disorders and diseases of the body have
ing, including ridding itself of heavy metals, parasites and other tox-
vibrational frequencies that are incompatible with healthy cells; thus, they disrupt the cells’ natural os-
accumulate. If the cell is damaged, (electrical potential changed), the permeability of membranes de-
cillation and polarity. This disruption creates imbalance and chaos within each affected cell. When
cline and the ability to detoxify decreases. The human body is electric be-
cells are in an imbalanced state, they are unable to facilitate the body’s functions needed for heal-
ins. But when cells are fully charged, they have more oxygen and are able to experience electrical balance, which results in a feeling of a healthy attitude, vitality, well-being, and enables the body to heal itself. This balance increases our sense of awareness and our sense of the mind/body/ spirit connection. Dark field studies have shown the machines significantly improves oxygen levels. Foot Spas generate millions of these negative ions during the foot bath session. This causes the body to absorb as many negative ions as possible. Ever increasing exposure to toxicity in and around us makes ongoing periodic detoxification essential in order to maintain health and prevent disease. Studies show that an overall balancing effect occurs, along with a significant increase in the number of negative ions. Ions are atoms or molecules that have lost or gained electrons [Free radicals are unpaired electrons]. If the atoms or molecules lose electrons, they become positively charged ions. If they gain electrons, they become negatively charges ions. The ionic technique of cleansing thru feet provides a full body purge of all vital organs, resulting in reduced menopause symptoms, menstrual cramps, sexual health problems, skin problems, acne, sleep problems, restlessness, stress, toothaches, vaginal dryness, wrinkles, candida and yeast infections. The internal cleansing also results in faster disease healing and injury recovery. Many addicted people must undergo a detox before they embark on a treatment plan. Detox is the process of getting the alcohol or other drugs out of the addicted person’s system. Read more on page 21

When you immerse a body mass into water, the vibrational frequency of the water will affect the vibrational frequency of the body due to the interaction of the mag-
netic and electrical fields. Consequently, the Detoxification Foot Spa unit is one of the best detox products. It is an exceptionally wonderful and natural healing tool. It is painless, with no drugs, and no harmful side effects. “The toxin accumulation lowers the immune system, and promotes premature senility and ill -health etc. Its effect can be tested and compared by blood test, urine test etc other regular tests before and after” The detox foot spa characters The detox foot spa is developed on the basis of physics, physiology, electrochemistry, dialysis, ion tophoresis and toxicology. If healthy, he or she should have approx. 80% negative electrical potential/charge (negative ions) and 20% positive (positive ions). But the human
body is like a giant magnet that attracts and holds onto toxins.

The IonCleanse Process generates a stream of positive and negative ions (charged atoms), which attract and attach themselves to oppositely charged toxic particles and draws them out of the body through the skin. Stocks rally as US-China talks allay trade war fears
US stock futures drove global shares up on Monday, following reports that the United States and China started negotiations to improve American access to Chinese markets, alleviating worries of a trade war between the two. E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 jumped over 1 per cent, whilst Japan’s Nikkei eradicated previous losses of 1.3 per cent to finish 0.7 higher. The MSCI index moved up by 0.4 per cent, a positive move following the 0.5 per cent fall. Elsewhere in Europe, Germany’s Dax, France’s Cac and Britain’s FTSE were all around 0.3 per cent higher. It was reported by the Wall Street Journal that Steven Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary, and Robert Lighthizer, US Trade Representative, announced Washington wants China to present a letter to Liu He, newly appointed Vice Premier who supervises China’s economy. Suggestions that talks were being held between the world’s largest and second largest economies dispelled fears of a mounting trade war, triggered after President Trump announced tariffs on Chinese goods, on top of import duties on steel and aluminium, resulting in a bold response from Beijing. In addition, the US agreed to exempt South Korea from steel tariffs, instead levying a quota on steel imports as both countries renegotiate their trade deal. The benchmark share index in South Korea rose 0.8 per cent. According to Nick Twidale, chief operating officer at Rakuten Securities Australia: “If we do start to hear more favourable news from the US administration and indeed from the Chinese side over the next few trading sessions, then we may see a sharp reversal of the recent moves in the market.” That said, a large number of investors remained circumspect due to the considerable uncertainty on where any such bilateral talks may lead. “Protectionism remains a source of volatility and downside risk for equities. Asia ex-Japan equity outperformance is in part a function of faster growth and capital inflows - both clearly at risk in a trade war,” affirmed analysts at JP Morgan.
boost their fintech sectors by improving their access to global markets. The UK-Australia ‘FinTech Bridge’, signed in London on Thursday, will deepen ties between the Australian and UK governments and regulatory agencies, according to Australian Treasurer, Scott Morrison. Mr Morrison commented: “We will work to identify emerging trends, share policy developments, and position firms for the challenges of entering a foreign market…It will provide exciting new opportunities for trade and investment into the future, in an ever-increasingly digital world where innovation and competitive edge are paramount. ”Importantly, it presents fintech firms on both sides of the Bridge with a fast track to pursue international expansion and hit the ground running.” The deal includes collaboration between the two countries to spot developing fintech trends and policy issues; sharing of regulatory knowhow and experience to facilitate the entry of new fintech firms into each other’s regulatory environment; enhancing trade and investment flows; and encouraging engagement between Australian and UK fintech sector agencies to negotiate various opportunities. Currently, says KPMG, the British fintech sector is worth about £7 billion annually, according to the Australian government, and raised £1.3 billion of investment last year. Investment in Australian fintech reached a high of over US$656 million in 2016. Christopher Woolard, executive director of strategy and competition at the FCA, the UK’s financial services regulator, observed: “Cooperation between regulators is a vital part of helping innovative businesses across international jurisdictions to flourish and bring their products to market for the benefit of consumers. ”Back in 2016, when we signed the original agreement with ASIC [Australian Securities and Investments Commission], we stated that we hoped that it would be the first of many to come. I am pleased to say that this has certainly been the case.”
For his part, ASIC commissioner John Price said: “ASIC and the FCA have developed an immensely beneficial relationship on fintech, including through our quarterly information sharing calls.” In November last year, ASIC signed a similar agreement with Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) to provide mutual understanding on financial innovation. Previously the regulator has entered into similar agreements with Japan and Hong Kong, amongst others.
U.S. firms seek clarity on tariff plans
U.S. firms are calling on the government to clarify its positions on steel and aluminium tariffs after the White House announced a major step back of proposals revealed by President Trump at the beginning of March. The rules, as enforced on Friday, exempted EU countries as well as six UK and Aussie regulators create ‘FinTech other nations of 25 per cent on steel and 10 per cent on aluminium Bridge’ until 1 May. The UK and Australia have signed an agreement that is designed to The excluded countries include Canada, Brazil, Mexico and South Ko-

rea, the four biggest exporters of steel to the States in 2017. According to the American Action Forum, around 66 per cent of all American steel imports and 55 per cent of aluminium ones are from the exempted countries. The exemptions were widely championed by sectors reliant on steel and aluminium heavy sectors, such as construction and energy, which had previously warned that the levies would increase costs and trigger job losses. However, shares in steel firms AK Steel, Nucor and US Steel, which had risen in response to Donald Trump’s original tariffs announce-
ment, had by the end of last week fallen down to their lowest 2018 point. Meanwhile shares in Century Aluminum, the firm that has been the highest profile supporter of aluminium tariffs, also dropped significantly as news of the proposed exemptions started to break. The Trump administration has said that it will “closely monitor” imports of steel and aluminium from the exempted nations, and that it could introduce quotas “as appropriate” to cap those sales. It also said that the President could change the tariff regime at any time, including stopping exemptions or exempting more countries. The CEO of Century Aluminium, Michael Bless, says he is confident that the government was “headi ng in the right direction” to implement a system that would limit imports and enable currently closed American aluminium smelters to reopen. Century is, according to reports, investing $100m and employing more than 300 people to bring a Kentucky-based smelter back to full capacity – it is currently operating at only 40 per cent. Mr Bless said: “Given our confidence, we are voting with our pocket books. They are following through on their stated obligations, and we are going to follow through on ours.” On Friday, global stock markets come under heavy pressure on fears over the rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China – the world’s largest and second largest economies, respectively – and how global economic growth and corporate earnings will be impacted. President Donald Trump confirmed tariffs on Thursday on up to $60bn in annual Chinese imports. He stated that China must pay for decades of unfairly acquiring American intellectual property. In response, Beijing unveiled plans to impose levies on 128 U.S. products, representing approximately $3bn in imports. cart, and a good golf course were sufficient to lure nineteen golfers to Treasure Hill for the first game of the week. This is a very good number for this time of year. ting. The pace of play was slow for no particular reason, some people never seem to grasp the idea of playing at a decent pace. Apart from those in the winner’s circle scores were generally on the low side. Richard Mohns with thirty-seven points took first place on countback from Ken Davidson. Colin Greig was a stroke adrift in third while Dave Maw brought up
the rear with thirty-five points. Near pins went to Bob Cowell, Richard Mohns, Keith Hemmings, and Dallas Hall playing his first game with The Bunker Boys. Wednesday, March 21st. Subhapruek. 1st Gary Bright (11) 38 points 2nd Colin Greig (8) 35 points 3rd Dave Maws (17) 34 points Near Pins Robbie Watts, Neil Carter, Colin Greig, Garry Bright. The Bunker Boys ventured further up Highway 7 than normal with the first organised trip to the Subhapruek course. Travel time was no issue with one hour and fifteen minutes required to complete the trip. The course was in excellent condition but a few bunkers which were being refilled with sand proved a bit of a challenge. It was an extremely hot day and the humidity was very high so that hydration was crucial. This course has more than its fair share of water hazards and the water table is quite high so it seemed a bit soggy in places. A few interesting rule challenges came up during the game not least how to treat mature trees supported not by stakes but by long wire supports, fortunately, no
decision had to be made as no one knew the correct ruling. Garry Bright took the honors today with a well-compiled thirtyeight. Continuing his recent good form Colin Greig took second with thirty-five points whilst Dave Maw was a stroke further back in third place. Near ins went to Robbie Watts, Colin Greig, Neil Carter, and Garry Bright. Our numbers are starting to dwindle a bit as some of our members keen to experience late Spring snow are returning to the Northern Hemisphere. Our lead group today had a rare experience when they witnessed a player from the group ahead of them on a parr three take eighteen strokes before deciding to pick up. Friday 23rd March Crystal Bay 1st Raleigh Gosney (21) Net 69 2nd Michael Brett (16) Net 70 3rd Takeshi Hakozaki (14) 72 Near Pins Geoff Cox, Raleigh Gosney, Michael Brett Due to the departure of a few our members our numbers, today were down to a round dozen for the second medal round of the month at Crystal Bay. The course is starting to show the effects of
high season with a few bare patches appearing on the fairways and a few greens in need of some T L C. Another extremely hot humid day with little breeze made for uncomfortable conditions. The course was relatively uncrowded so the pace of play was good. Making a return to form today after some time in the doldrums Raleigh Gosney took the honors with a solid net sixty-nine. Raleigh has a theory that by using a cart he reduces both physical and mental fatigue, so if today’s round is any indication he may have a valid point. Second place went to Michael Brett who despite a disastrous seven on the last parr three managed a net seventy. Course member Takeshi Hakozaki took third with a net seventy-two. Near pins went to Geoff Cox who is becoming a regular on near pins, Raleigh Gosney and Michael Brett. Preparations for a week away at Kanchanaburi during the week of Songkran are well underway so anyone wishing to participate should sing up asap. Raleigh Gosney winner at Crystal Bay

TROPICAL GOLF GROUP Tuesday The 20th March 2018: Bangpakong Riverside ( Stableford) This Course is well worth the long trip to get there, especially at the present time when it is in excellent condition and has a deal to make the day out, not break the bank. On this day we had a good turnout to go on the trip up there. Despite this being the longest drive we have to any of out regular outings, once you get on the route 7 it is in effect motorway all the way there and once you go over the very imposing Bangpakong River you are nearly there. All who have driven to the airport will recognise the turnoff. Despite missing the turn last time, and that is something you do not want to do, it is like spaghetti junction and to get back a bit of a nightmare, it is well signed. However the route from arriving to the first tee here is nice and
SIAM COUNTRY RESORT SUNNY WEEK On Tuesday 13th March we went to Greenwood. The weather was sunny and warm. The course was in very good condition with beautiful fairways. Despite of the qualification as a difficult course, we had very good scores today. Our topper today was Stan Rees. Last week he showed already a good shape in the Championship and today he continued his form. He is the winner with 44 stable ford points. Jonathan Pratt showed also a good form and was second with 42 stable ford points. Third was Dave Smith with 37 stable ford

slick. so we were on the first tee on time and away we went. This is a Course that wends it’s way around a lot of water, it is also a Course that seems to be getting more difficult to play. We used to get some really high scores here but of late the results have been more moderate and on this day with the fairways well grassed and the rough a little long I expected no more. Seems the rain of late has also reduced the run on the fairways and as this is a longish Course some were struggling to get reasonable distance. The greens also were a bit slow but saying that they were still true and a pleasure to play. One thing that was noticeable was that the pins seemed to be in difficult positions, surely to be reflected in the results. We also were not held up and managed to get around in reasonable time. This is really a Course where you can have ‘A walk in the park”.
points. The nears to the pin were for Jonathan Pratt and Paddy Devereux. Mountain Shadow was our venue on Thursday 15th March. On the way to the course became the sky dark and we even had a few raindrops. But arriving at the course the sky was blue and the shining. It was a hot Thursday. The course was in good shape and we had a joyful game. It is not an easy course and the scores were not as high as Tuesday. The winner was Sam Gettinby with 38 stable ford points. Second was George Gamble with 37 stable ford points
There is a small place to eat and drink right outside the changing rooms that is ideal for a quick visit before you start the long drive back. All the golfers usually pay a visit. Back at BJ’s after a relaxing drive back it was soon into the results. In the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Paul Weatherley with a very good 42 points ahead of Tom Herrington in second with also a fine 41 points. In third was Andre Van Dyk with 39 points and in fourth was Brian Parish with 38 points on countback over Takeshi Hakozaki. In the B Flight, 19 up, The winner was Gordon Clegg with 38 points ahead of Carole Kubicki in second with 36 points. In third was Nigel Perry with 35 points and in fourth was Derek Brook with 34 points. The best front nine non winner was by Takeshi Hakozaki with 20 points and the back nine winner was John

We had also been running an Eclectic at Bangpakong for the last three visits and this being the third visit, after the scores were worked out, the Winner of The Eclectic was Karen Brown. Well played indeed Karen. T.T.F.N. Paul left Karen centre and Gordon Right Flight winners and Karen Eclectic winner. Suggest Karen can win with her eyes closed. Friday March 23, Khao Kheow – St Landis, Paul, and Carole Win At Tough Khao Kheow This week the Tropical Golfers decided to really test themselves with a visit to Khao Kheow. Rumor has it for some this is their last practice round before heading to Georgia hoping for a last minute invitation to play in The Masters. Well, hope springs eternal. A full group of twenty nine golfers decided KK wasn’t too tough for them, so after meet and
greet at BJ’S Lodge everyone saddled up for the ride out. Everyone knows Khao Kheow is a tough course, however this week it was made even tougher by less than stellar course condition, especially the fairways. Assigned to play “C” & “A” nines and getting away on time we found the “C” nine already into the low season maintenance phase with scarified fairways. While the greens were overall in good shape (and quite fast with several tricky pin positions) many fairways were weedy, and complicated by loose cut grass on most of them. Players were constantly moving handfuls of dead grass away from their ball in the middle of the fairway. We give the course condition a “Fair” this round. You would assume that with those conditions and the tough layout scores would be on the low side, but the Tropical Golfers have enough skilled players that the scores were fairly good. A-Flight (0-17): Tough conditions bring out the best of the best,
and Landis Brooks (c/h 9) had the best net score of the day with 39 points of his single digit rating. Awesome! Four shots back Richard Kubicki (14) earned second place with 35 point, followed by Alan Sullivan (16) over Rob Brown (7) on count-back at 34. B-Flight (18+): Big Paul Weatherley (18) made it two in a row by taking his flight with an excellent 38 points. Good playing! Gordon Glegg (27) continues to hear his name with his 37 point day. Next Graham Buckingham (20) and Jim Ferris (24) finished the flight with 34 and 33 points respectively. Ladies: Carole Kubicki (24) won the classiest flight with the day’s high 40 points, followed by Karen Brown (36) with 36. Take a courtesy. Best Nines (non winner): John Davis had a best nine thanks to a 5-point eagle on a par four! Mick Coghlan also had a good half round.

to Pleasant Valley. It was a nice sunny and warm day. The course was in good condition with only some wet areas on the fairways. The course was not easy, but we had at least one good result. George Gamble and Willem Lasonder played very good on the front nine, but lost the way on the back nine. Only Sam Gettinby stayed consistent and won with 42 stable ford points. Second was George Gamble with 32 stable ford points, beating Willem Lasonder on the count back. The nears to the pin were for Stan Rees, Willem Lasonder, George Gamble and Jonathan Pratt.
Treasure Hill was our venue on Thursday 22th March. It was a warm and half clouded day. The course was as always in good shape, but difficult. We welcomed today some friends from Qatar. At least for one of them had the flight no impact. Winner was Tony Moorat with 38 stable ford points. George Gamble confirmed his good form and became second with 36 stable ford points. Sam Gettinby was third with 33 stable ford points. The nears to the pin were for Tony Moorat and Ian Waddell.

GROWLING SWAN THURSDAY 15th MARCH 2018 PATTAVIA CC GOLF COURSE – STABLEFORD Mike Johns Steals the Show! It was one bus and a couple of cars that headed out of The Growling Swan for our journey to The Plantation Course, better known as Pattavia! We left on time although we were held up by one golfer getting his times confussed. No harm done!. With a small field we were to play one division only with four placings. LINKS GOLF SOCIETY WEDNESDAY 21 st MARCH 2018: Bart’s Blow for the Common Man Khao Kheow ranks as one of the best golfing challenges in the kingdom with its thoughtful Pete Dye design, intrusion of water hazards, placement of bunkers and rolling greens. The Links Golf Society accepted the challenge on Wednesday, 21st March as three dozen keen souls joined in the fray. The air was heavily humid as the group teed off on the “A” nine and sure enough the round was punctuated by a heavy thunderstorm about halfway through which sent golfers diving for cover. However on resumption the “B” nine fairways drained quickly and the only effect on the greens was a marginal slowing of the pace. The field was divided into two flights at sixteen and under and scores were better than many could have predicted. In the top flight fourth place went to Canadian Pierre Cere with a solid 37 points. Storm? What storm? In the second flight scores were a little less competitive with fourth place going to Willie Brown whose 35 points was usurped by the better back nine of third placed Billy Hill. Billy of “wig” fame has never been near that honour this trip. Such has been the improvement in his game. In second place was the consistent Irishman Larry Slattery, again in the frame with 36 points. The winner showed what a high handicapper can achieve on a course such as Khao Kheow. CAFE KRONBORG Cafe Kronborg played at Crystal Bay on Monday 19th March, where the course was in pretty good shape, depending on where your ball landed. Greens were a good pace, but the putts just didn’t want to drop especially for the A flight. Our mini bus drivers decided to go through Sriracha instead of using the 7 and going into Crystal Bay the back way, this meant waiting at the numerous traffic lights and a 55 minute journey. It turned out that one of our group thinks the motorways are dangerous and told them to go this way, even though statistically the motorways are much safer! There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 21 and the B flight 22 and above. In the A flight the scores were not great as everyone seemed to struggle. The A Flight winner, with his second win of the season before returning to the US, was Ty Anderson with 33 points. Second was Richard Kubicki with a hard earned 32 points, but a 3 putt bogey on the 18th costing him. Third was Kenneth Madsen with 31

Second was Steen Habersaat with a solid 38 points, unlucky for Steen that Carole had played so well. Third was the omnipresent Jan Lovgreen with 33 points. where the allotted courses were C and A, a combination which normally is very difficult, however playing from the yellow tees made it more accessible. The course was in pretty good condition and the greens were a good speed and ran true, start the ball on the correct line and it went in. Quite a few in our group managed to take advantage of the conditions and the scores were pretty good, especially in the A flight. Back in the clubhouse the card showed that several players had taken the course apart with the precision of a surgeon. Five players managing to easily beat their handicap. The presentation was slightly delayed because the last group had left one of the near pins on the course and this had to be retrieved. Everyone in the last group please check that all pins are present before you leave the course and if one is missing go and get it. If you don’t have a buggy talk to the starter and usually they’ll take you there in one. The organiser has enough to worry about without worrying about lost pins, especially if his name is on
it! There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 21 and the B flight 22 and above. The A Flight winner was Kenneth Madsen with the score of the day and apparently his best score ever, an electrifying 45 points, Kenneth breaking 80 for the first time with a 79 off the stick. Well done to Kenneth and look forward to a handicap reduction of 1, maybe 2 next week. Richard Kubicki was second with a sterling 41 points, the main action happening on the back 9 which he parred, giving him 23 points. Third was a flummoxed Rob Brown with a superb 40 points off his 7 handicap, a score which would easily win here on any other
day. In the B Flight the winner was Torben Sorensen joining the forty point club with a superb 41 points. Torben hitting a bit of form after a recent gravelly patch. Gordon Clegg came second with a solid 39 points. Two players had 34 points and third place was decided on countback, this being the Kronborg countback is calculated as per the card. Taking third place was Gordon Baird with a countback of 19 points, Gordon entering the winners circle for the first time this season. Losing out was Eddie the eagle Glinsek who had a countback of 18 points, at least Eddie’s near pin and long put wins eased the disappointment a little.

PATTAYA CRICKET CLUB TOO STRONG FOR KERALA
It was the return Eastern Seaboard Cricket League fixture against Kerala on Sunday at the beautiful Thai Polo Ground and PCC were hoping for a repeat performance against the same opposition faced only two weeks previously which ended in a convincing victory for the local side. Having been asked to bat first on a very hot and humid morning Manik and Tiz made serene progress until a ‘yes, no, wait….ah sorry’ moment saw Tiz run out for an untroubled 12. Wezley Masterton soon found the middle of the bat with some sumptuous boundaries before another ‘yes, no, wait…..ah sorry’ moment and he departed for 24. At this stage of the innings Manik was beginning to wonder if he dare call for a run again. When Venky (7) turned a ball down to short fine leg Manik screamed ‘YES’ but in response Venky unwisely decided to amble a single, proceeding to watch the fielder gather the ball and throw to the non strikers end. He was run out by yards. This outcome was
probably not unexpected as he had competed in a 10km run before the start of the game! However, he is also a dreadful runner between the wickets at the best of times and has form, as his captain keenly reminded him. Poor old Manik was now suicidal out in the middle. Reds Liddell (16) brought some much needed calmness to the crease with some assured calling and he and Manik (48) consolidated the innings as runs were accumulated at a healthy rate. Late order runs (24) from the PCC captain Simon Philbrook ensured PCC finished with a an impressive 179/9 from the allotted 25 overs. A team talk before taking the field from the PCC captain urged the bowlers to bowl full and straight, the fielders to be alert to any opportunity and for the Aussies in the team to not tamper with the ball. Andy Emery and Wezley opened the bowling in exemplary fashion. Regularly beating the outside edge the pressure mounted and Andy induced a top edge that was
38 THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE OF PATTAYA
held acrobatically by the captain. Andy clean bowled the other Kerala opener and PCC were in command. Peter Gangur sensed a chance to strangle the chase and he duly obliged with two quick wickets from his miserly offspin. The target became increasingly distant as wickets continued to
fall, aided by some stunning catches from the old timers Simon and Reds. A last wicket partnership that lasted 7 overs prolonged the inevitable result as Kerala finished on 98/9. The umpires inspected the ball for any inconsistent marks and deservedly Manik was awarded the man
of the match trophy. League games take a back seat until April 22nd but next week PCC travel to Bangkok to take on the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. PCC would like to thank the club sponsors PSC, Amigo Group, Retox Outback Bar, Macallan Insurance and Aegis International
and encourage anyone with a passion for the game to join the club by visiting the club website www.pattayacricketclub.com or the Facebook page.

plenty more slightly disguised attempts out there, my biggest hit being one of them. Internationally, there are so many variations of the twelve different notes that make up the music most of us w o u l d recognise.
I’ve long been an advocate for cross fertilization of styles and genres hopefully to generate something new and exciting. My favourite examples are ‘Run DMC/ Aerosmith’ with ‘Walk This Way’ and ‘Paul Simon’s album ‘Graceland’. Both of these utilized completely diverse types of music and seamlessly wove them together. I’m surprised that this inventiveness has not been more widely used although there are
ISSUE 600 APRIL 2018
Anyone who has widely travelled around the globe cannot help but be aware of so many different styles and sounds, some of which are palatable to the individual, some which are not. However, marrying up diverse rythums and sounds together with some decent songwriting could be an answer to the deluge of mediocrity offered by the majority of todays artists. I remember visiting Taiwan a couple of years ago and had an amazing experience in the moun-
tains of the central area. It was in this region that the indigenous locals sang the atmospheric vocals for the hit ‘Return To Innocence’ by ‘Enigma’ (I can sense you now rushing to YouTube for a reminder). This still remains one of my favourite pieces of music. World Music is, broadly speaking, music of the world’s cultures. In the 1980s the term was adopted to characterize non-English recordings that were released in Great Britain and the United States. Employed primarily by the media and record stores, this controversial category amalgamated the music of such diverse sources as Tuvan throat singers, Zimbabwean guitar bands, and Pakistani qawwalî or Sufi-music singers, as well as non main stream Western folk musicians such as Cajun fiddlers and Hawaiian guitarists. Although purists argued that no musical style could be identified as ‘World Music’, the term was coined to bring foreign music closer to the mainstream of Western popular music. In many ways the history of World Music is the story of the marketing of foreign music by Western record companies. Despite these commercial origins, by the early 1990s the term had precipitated a change in the consciousness of musicians and producers, and World Music had become a bona fide musical genre. Paradoxically, world music was often synonymous with local or regional music and interpretations of what fitted tended to shift from one country to the next. Although some artists from countries on the margins of the Western popular music market could now aspire to a worldwide audience, those who took superstars such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Bob Marley as their role models were usually frustrated by the idiosyncratic tastes of world music mediators. World music was welcomed for its ‘authenticity’ as a counterpoint to the increasingly
synthetic and robotic sounds favoured by Western pop producers during the 1980s. Industry recognition of world music came in 1990, when the influential American trade magazine Billboard introduced a world music chart. A year later the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences added a world music category to its Grammy Awards. Among the
artists who benefited most from this new visibility were the Gipsy Kings, a French pop-flamenco group that sweetened strong vocals with strummed guitars, catchy songs, and a neo-dance beat, an avalanche of Irish-related artists, many featuring the word Celtic in their album titles, that included 1997 Grammy winners the Chieftains, Cesaria Evora, a smokyvoiced nightclub singer from Cape
Verde, and several ‘ambient-global’, or ‘ethno-techno’, projects, including Enigma (from Germany) and Deep Forest. Wouldn’t it be great to hear more cross fertilization of cultural music from around the world. Who’s up for the challenge to create something new, listenable and exhilerating? An International ‘Mash Up’ of styles to titillate our aural senses.
