SALUTE TO SINATRA

Louis Hoover – Biography 1960s Louis grew up on the streets of North London, hanging around backstage, dressing rooms and TV studios, learning from his older sister CANDY, a 60’s teenage singing star. At fifteen, he stumbled upon a Frank Sinatra Album at home, and was curious. ‘I thought Frank Sinatra was a movie actor, as most kids did, back in the 60’s!’ says Louis. But when ‘the needle touched the vinyl’, the young Louis fate was sealed, and THIS music, was to be his life. 1970s ‘In those days everyone raved about Sinatra’s phrasing’, recalls sister Candy, ‘as as a kid, Louis had an uncanny talent for anticipating Sinatra’s phrasing. Not only was this music in his blood, his voice was beginning to sound like a young Sinatra or Tony Bennett, maybe with a twist of Tamla soul thrown in’. Later, in the 80’s, this would prove fortuitous… Louis saw Sinatra live THREE times as a teenager. ‘When I came out of the Royal Albert Hall, although I was only seventeen, I knew I would one day stand on that same stage’ says Louis. ‘It really was a strange experience; a definite premonition that physically shook me, but then I have

ISSUE 603  JULY 2018

had them a few times’. In 2005, astoundingly, his premonition came true. As the culmination of his annual UK tour, Louis performed, together with sixty piece orchestra as predicted, to a sell out Royal Albert Hall audience, receiving a deserved nine minute standing ovation. Which is quite an amazing story in itself. 1980s Louis acting talent was spotted early by his drama teacher, Eileen Brophy, at school. She recommended that he attend a full time stage school. His parents were not wealthy enough to pay the fees, but Louis won a government scholarship to attend the ARTS EDUCATIONAL SCHOOL in London. On leaving AES, being too young to be taken credibly as a singer, he embarked on a career as a stand-up comic, who also ‘sang a little’. Friends and family had always been entertained by Louis keen sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. But in the end, music was to prove his real love. In 1985 Louis signed to record producer Tony Atkins and enjoyed USA & UK chart success, with cover versions of Marin Gaye’s MERCY, MERCY ME, The Kingsmen’s LOUIE LOUIE, and The Temptations AIN’T TOO PROUD TO BEG.

Louis then signed as lead singer to international pop band ‘WALL STREET CRASH’, resulting in eleven hit albums, number one hits in Italy, and numerous music awards. The group were then invited by Sammy Davis Junior, to support him on stage for his West End shows. Later that year Louis also supported Dean Martin at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. Louis never ignored his jazz roots and kept coming back to perform at jazz venues like ‘Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club’ in Soho, ‘Cafe Alto’ in Amsterdam and The Blue Note in New York. These were his ‘back yards’ ‘musically’ speaking where he felt most ‘at home’. 1990s Louis’ childhood dream began to take shape when he was asked to put together his own solo ‘SALUTE TO SINATRA show. In 1997 he toured the U.K. and Ireland and news soon spread like wild fire, that ‘this was no Sinatra Impersonator’, but a very gifted laid back performer, with a sharp sense of humor, high musical artistry, perfect timing and above all, a unique natural sound. Soon, Louis went on to sell out some of the most famous concert venues in the world including The Royal Albert Hall and London Palladium… six times!

2000s In1999, Louis joined UK promoters Flying Music, to put together a brand new show based on the hilarious ‘hi jinx’ and musical talents of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior in their prime. Louis starred as Frank Sinatra from the beginning and the show became the massive cult musical ‘The Rat Pack Live From Las Vegas’ playing to packed houses in London’s West End for eight years. Louis toured with the show throughout Europe and the USA. To this day, more than 16 million people worldwide have seen The Rat Pack, and the show is still going strong, with a recently completed 14th West End run with Louis again playing the lead role of SINATRA. And This Is Me… This is the seminal album for which LH was nominated for a Grammy in the newly introduced

suburbia. Most men would cut their right arm off, just to be glanced at by any of his ex loves’. They’re all great people too, and it is a testament to him, that his ‘significant ex’s’ are all still his loyal friends and soul sisters’. Aside from his brilliant, critically acclaimed, portrayal of Sinatra in THE RAT PACK show, Louis was signed to Ronnie Scott’s Jazz House label as an original jazz artist. In his own rite, completely away from THE RAT PACK and SALUTE TO SINATRA shows, Louis has performed with the world’s greatest jazz legends; MICHAEL BRECKER, KENNY BARRON, CONTE CANDOLI, HELEN MERRILL, KEN PEPLOWSKI, GUY BARKER, CLEO LAINE & JOHN DANKWORTH, at international jazz festivals throughout in Europe, Japan and the USA, and writes his own songs. ‘Swing with a modern attitude’, as the Evening

Sinatra himself once said, ‘British musicianship is the best in the world’. 2010s Reprising his lead role as Sinatra in THE RAT PACK at London’s Adelphi in 2009/10, Louis then went to Australia, South America, Japan and USA to perform his SALUTE TO SINATRA show. 2012 /13 November: Louis returned from his tour of the Far East, headlining in Singapore at the MARINA BAY THEATRE. Louis also starred on THE PRESIDENTS CHARITY TV GALA to benefit the under privileged children’s POCKET MONEY FUND which assists their travel to and from school. 2014 / 2015 Together with associate promoter Tony Clayman, Louis has now formed LONDON INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTIONS the creative umbrella for the up coming enter-

‘Traditional Pop’ category. Louis has been labelled ‘..the ‘Sinatra of the New Millennium’. And oddly, Louis’ His own life is not dissimilar to that of the notorious hell raising Hollywood star. ‘Old Frank was a character that’s for sure, and Louis is without doubt a very colourful person too!,’ laughs Matt Cogger, Louis tour manager and close friend. ‘He’s never married, lived in London’s Soho village, Amsterdam and the Far East, and has always chosen bohemia over

Standard said. ‘If he actually has a ‘mission’ at all, I’d say it is to preserve the legacy of the music Sinatra and Bennett championed, by taking the genre just a step further’. London Evening Standard. Louis’ album And This Is Me…’ combines a contemporary feel with a unique sound, set off by the reflected expertise of Sinatra - Tony Bennett - Bobby Darin and other past masters, backed by an amazing UK orchestra, and as

tainment productions: SINATRA 100 MAD ON MADONNA THE RAT PACK & CO SALUTE TO THE LEGENDS LIP is also proud to represent the fabulous SALUT SALON for the UK & Ireland. Nice to have such a talented person being a regular Pattaya expat. Maybe one day we can enjoy Louis Hoover on stage here in Thailand.

TRADEMARK IN THAILAND

When looking to submit an application to register a trademark we will always have the chance to check first if there are trademarks that are similar to ours. The registration officer at the Intellectual Property Department will check your trademark application to see if it is valid, this process can take up to but no more than one year if it is successful. A more realistic time frame is around three months for approval; this can be hastened by sending our staff

three days to a week to help check with the Intellectual Property Department. The way we do this is constantly trying to find similar trademarks focusing on the appropriate fields; for example if we are trying to register a trademark for a jewelry product, we will try to find other similar trademarks. But on our experience similar trademarks are usually in unrelated fields of business and as such we can argue that as they are unrelated it should be ap-

proved. If our application is found to be the same or too similar to another trademark then the registration officer will order the application to be rejected as per section 12 of Thai Trademark Law. If we disagree with the verdict of the officer then we have the right to appeal the decision for up to thirty days, starting from the date that you receive the letter from the registry officer. Sometimes we find that the name we plan to register for our trademark is similar to the name of a type of trademark, for example having the brand name as Rolex and the type or model name as Viva Dolce. The trademark we are trying to register is only Viva Dolce and thus it is considered similar and can be rejected, what we must do is appeal and then explain to the officer the difference and how they are not the same which should enable it to be passed. Sometimes the wording

on a trademark is considered a common word and you cannot register the trademark without allowing other parties to also use those words. An easy example is Pizza Hut, with both words considered common they have to give consent for other parties to use these words, which is why you will always see other names associated with pizza such as Pizza Company or Pizza Mania. Whenever you wish you to register a trademark it is always best to check beforehand to ease the

process, an easy way is to hire a lawyer to check for you if there are any similar trademarks. Don’t think that the process can be done easily and by anyone, you may have to wait a long time, many even years and then you may still not be successful and get the trademark papers in your hands granting you full ownership. LAWYER COMMENT: I recommend that for a service like this you should always use professionals please hire people that have experience in this filed as it

requires knowledge of special laws. By doing this you will save yourself a lot of problems as well as a lot of time and money. This field of law requires specialist’s information and experience, by having that at your advantage you will not find yourself in the waiting list for long. If you have any questions of queries feel free to contact us. To contact the Lawyer please call: 08-9911-1199 or email: info@pattayapeople.com

ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS WARNING SIGNS

Pain and stiffness in your hips and lower back are classic symptoms. But this form of arthritis can affect your whole body. This type of arthritis causes painful inflammation in the spine. Over time, it may make your vertebrae- the small bones of spine – fuse together. It can also inflame other joints, like hips and knees and it can damage your eyes, heart and other organs. There is no cure but treatment and taking care of yourself can often slow down or prevent it from getting worse. ·Who gets it? :- Three times more men than women get Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), typically between ages 16 to 35. It’s more common in people who are white, Asian, or Hispanic. You’re more likely to get it if one of your parents or siblings has it. Most people with the disease have a gene called HLA_B27, though having this gene doesn’t mean you’ll get AS. But you can prevent it. ·Low Back Pain: - The classic symptom is pain and stiffness in your hips and lower back. It often gets better with exercise and worse with rest, so it may wake up at night and feel more intense in the morning. · Enthesitis: - That’s big word for the pain and swelling. AS can cause where your tendons and ligaments connect to bones. You’re likely to feel this at the top of your shinbone, back or bottom of your heel or where your ribs connect to your breastbone. When your ribs are affected, you may

ISSUE 603  JULY 2018

have trouble breathing or it may hurt when you breathe because you can’t fully expand your chest. ·Other Effects on Your Body: - Since AS is a kind of arthritis, joints like your hips, knees and shoulders can also hurt and swell. AS can lead to weak, brittle bones (osteoporosis). Feeling drained of energy is common, and you may have anemia. You could lose weight because of problems in your gut, such as colitis. AS can cause inflammation that damages your eyes, and lungs too. ·Long Term Outlook: - When it’s treated, AS doesn’t typically affect how long you’ll live or limit your abilities too much. Your symptoms may come and go, and often get better and worse. Some people will have more severe problems related to the disease and it effects, such as a hunched over posture and vertebrae that have grown together, which limit the spine’s movements. ·Treatments: - There’s no cure for AS, but treatment can help you keep doing your usual activities and living your life by easing symptoms and holding off more severe, long term effects. The earlier you begin, the better. Rheumatologists are the specialists who treat arthritis and other diseases of the bones, joints and muscles. Depending on your symptoms, you might need to work with other health professionals too. ·Medication: - You usually start with nonstreodial anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)- like aspirin,

ibuprofen, and naproxen- to help with pain, stiffness and swelling. Biologic drugs work on your immune system to interrupt the inflammation process. Other arthritis drug won’t help your spine, but they may lessen pain and swelling in other joints. ·Healthy Habits: - Stay as active as you safely can. It’s one of the best things you can do for AS. It will also help keep your weight in check, so you don’t put extra strain on your back and joints. Eat less bread, rice and potatoes and more lean protein, vegetables and fruits. Make sure to get plenty of calcium and vitamin D for your bones. Avoid smoking; it’s not good for your body in general, but smokers with AS tend to have more spinal damage. ·Posture: - When you walk or sit, don’t slump. Keep your spine straight, shoulders square and head up. Choose hard, upright chairs instead of soft, cushy ones. A pillow behind your back can give you support. ·Bed Time: - Use a firm mattress that has some give. Avoid a lot of pillows. It’s best to sleep on your belly with no pillow, or on your back with one thin pillow. Keep your legs stretched out, rather than curled up. ·Physical Therapy: - Treatment for AS often includes an individual, tailored exercise plan to ease pin, build strength, and improve your range of motion. A physical therapist can coach you on posture and sleeping too. Massage and other bodywork may help with your comfort and flexibility. ·Dealing with Your Aches: In general use cold packs or ice for swelling, and heat for stiff joints or tight muscles. Tough to move in the morning or when you go to exercise? Try a warm bath or shower and then some gentle stretches. If pain keeps you up at night try an electric blanket. ·At Work: - You’ll need to adjust your surroundings to encourage good posture. Avoid lifting, stooping and tasks that awkward for your body. Use a sit/stand desk so you can change positions throughout the day. Take a short break often. If you’re having a hard time, an occupational therapist might be able to help you change your

movements and workspace, or show you devices to make it easier to do your job. ·Driving: - For most people with AS, driving won’t be a problem. But if your range of motion is affected and it’s difficult to check to the side and behind you, get extra wide mirrors for your car so you can see and be safe. Fit your headrest correctly – level with the top of your ears (or higher), with a little distance between it and the back of your head as possible. On longer trips, make regular stops to get out and stretch.

WHAT’S THE YIELD CURVE? ‘A POWERFUL SIGNAL OF RECESSIONS’ HAS WALL STREET’S ATTENTION June 25, 2018 You can try to play down a trade war with China. You can brush off the impact of rising oil prices on corporate earnings. But if you’re in the business of making economic predictions, it has become very difficult to disregard an important signal from the bond market. The so-called yield curve is perilously close to predicting a recession — something it has done before with surprising accuracy — and it’s become a big topic on Wall Street. Terms like “yield curve” can be mind-numbing if you’re not a bond trader, but the mechanics, practical impact and psychology of it are fairly straightforward. Here’s what the fuss is all about. First, the mechanics. The yield curve is basically the difference between interest rates on short-term United States government bonds, say, two-year Treasury notes, and long-term government bonds, like 10-year Treasury notes. Typically, when an economy seems in good health, the rate on the longer-term bonds will be higher than short-term ones. The extra interest is to compensate, in part, for the risk that strong economic growth could set off a broad rise in prices, known as inflation. Lately, though, long-term bond yields have been stubbornly slow to rise — which suggests traders are concerned about long-term growth — even as the economy shows plenty of vitality. At the same time, the Federal Reserve has been raising shortterm rates, so the yield curve has been “flattening.” In other words, the gap between short-term interest rates and long-term rates is shrinking. Economists and investors are watching the shrinking gap between interest rates on 2-year and 10-year U.S. government bonds — known in the bond mar-

ket as a flattening yield curve. On Thursday, the gap between

Fed. Curve inversions have “correctly signaled all nine recessions

two-year and 10-year United States Treasury notes was roughly 0.34 percentage points. It was last at these levels in 2007 when the United States economy was heading into what was arguably the worst recession in almost 80 years. As scary as references to the financial crisis sound, flattening alone does not mean that the United States is doomed to slip into another recession. But if it keeps moving in this direction, eventually long-term interest rates will fall below short-term rates. When that happens, the yield curve has “inverted.” An inversion is seen as “a powerful signal of recessions,” as the president of the New York Fed, John Williams, said this year, and that’s what everyone is watching for. The yield curve inverted — or fell below zero — before the re-

since 1955 and had only one false positive, in the mid-1960s, when an inversion was followed by an economic slowdown but not an official recession,” the bank’s researchers wrote in March. Even if it hasn’t happened yet, the move in that direction has Wall Street’s attention. The yield curve, once it inverts, has a track record of signaling that a recession is coming.

good signal of directionality of the economy,” said Sonja Gibbs, senior director of capital markets at the Institute of International Finance. “That’s why everyone is

from these levels,” Ms. Gibbs said. And the financial markets can sometimes sniff out problems with the economy before they show up in the official economic snapshots published on G.D.P. and unemployment. Another notable yield curve inversion occurred in February 2000, just before the stock market’s dot-com bubble burst. In that sense, the government bond market isn’t alone. Stocks have been in a sideways struggle since the Standard & Poor’s 500stock index last peaked on Jan. 26. Returns on corporate bonds are negative, as are some key commodities tied to industrial activity.

An important caveat to the predictive power of the yield curve is that it can’t predict precisely when a recession will begin. In the past the recession has come in as little as six months, or as long as two years, after the inversion, the San Francisco Fed’s researchers note. In other words, there’s a reason to look at the yield curve skeptically, despite its prowess at predicting recessions. The new fear gauge. As in all market moves, perceptions of its significance mean the yield curve can sometimes be-

Either way, the flow of lending is likely to be curtailed. And in the United States, where borrowed money is the lifeblood of economic activity, that can slam the brakes on economic growth. The Fed’s hand. There is an argument to be made against reading too much into the yield curve’s moves — and it hangs on the idea that, rather than the free market, central banks have had a big influence on both the long-term and shortterm rates. Since the last recession, central

come a feedback loop. If enough investors begin to grow concerned about a recession, they will most likely put more and more money into the safety of longterm government bonds. That buying binge would likely help flatten, or invert, the yield curve. Then people will write articles about the curve’s sending a stronger signal on recession. And that could, in turn, drive even more people to buy into long-term bonds. Rinse. Repeat. There’s also a practical impact. But it’s not just psychology. The yield curve helps determine some of the decisions that are the most crucial to the health of the American economy. Specifically, the flattening yield curve makes banking, which is basically the business of borrowing money at short-term rates and lending it at long-term rates, less profitable. And if the yield curve inverts, it means lending money becomes a losing proposition.

banks bought trillions of dollars of government bonds as they tried to push long-term interest rates lower in order to lend a helping hand to the economy. Even though they’re reversing course now, central banks still own massive amounts of those bonds, and that may be keeping long-term interest rates lower than they would otherwise be. Also, the Federal Reserve has been raising short-term interest rates since December 2015 and has indicated it will keep doing so this year. So if long-term rates were pushed lower by central bank bond buying, and now short-term rates are being pushed higher as the Fed tightens its monetary policy, the yield curve has nowhere to go but flatter. “In the current environment, I think it’s a less reliable indicator than it has been in the past,” said Matthew Luzzetti, a senior economist at Deutsche Bank.

“For economists, of course it’s always been traditionally a very

bemoaning the flattening of the yield curve.” Recession? Really? Sure, it seems like a strange time to be worried about recession. Unemployment is at an 18-year low, corporate investment is picking up steam, and consumer spending shows signs of rebounding. Some economists on Wall Street think the economy could be growing at around a nearly 5 percent annualized clip this quarter. But if the current economic vigor is only reflecting a short-term stimulus coming from the Trump administration’s tax cut, then some kind of slowdown is to be expected. The unemployment rate is at an 18-year low. Low unemployment can sometimes be a precursor to a recession. “It’s very hard to see what’s going to goose the economy further

Friday, 27 July Bob France will demonstrate an easy and ancient way to improve our health and outlook through fluid and graceful Tai Chi movements. What is Tai Chi? Tai Chi originated in ancient China where it is considered a martial art. There is much more to tai chi than one can see, and virtually no one can describe this complex art in a simple sentence. But, basically, tai chi consists of slow continuous whole-body movements, strung together in a form. Like dance, the movements are learned and follow one after the other. The essential principles of tai chi include mind and body integration, fluid movements, controlled breathing and mental concentration. The central focus is to enable the qi (pronounced chee), or life force, to flow smoothly and powerfully throughout the body. Total harmony of the inner and outer self comes from the integration of the mind and body. This can be achieved through regular practice. The Benefits of Practicing Tai Chi Today, tai chi is one of the most effective exercises for the health of mind and body, not only in China, but around the world. Tai chi helps people to relax and feel better. Everything improves when you are more relaxed and feeling good about yourself.

INTERNATIONAL TENNIS EVENTS IN PATTAYA…WITH A DIFFERENCE Greta Sports Club and Resort, Pattaya, was the amazing venue for an Open International Beach Tennis and Softball Tennis competition weekend which saw national team members from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, India, The Phillipines, Japan and Norway (yes…Norway) playing these unusual sports. Renaud, the French managing

director of the Greta complex, is a keen player of Beach Tennis himself and said he was delighted that the sport is gaining so much momentum that it will very possibly soon get Olympic status. Softball Tennis, played with a squashy rubber ball and slightly smaller tennis racquets, is also growing as a popular sport and many international team players

from many countries in S.E. Asia flew in especially for this tournament. The Greta Sports Club is a few kilometres outside Pattaya, not far from Ocean Marina, with fresh air and superb facilities. Check out Pattaya People TV to see a feature about these sports and the competition itself with many team member interviews.

PATTAYA UTDS RELEGATION AVOIDANCE TASK After losing away 2-1 to Chainat FC and 4-1 away to Siam Navy FC, The Dolphins’ only point from the June fixtures came from a 0-0 draw at home to Prachuap. This fiercely contested game was highly entertaining and the enthusiastic support went away satisfied that our team had done its’ best to get a result. However, this now means that, at the time of going to press, Pattaya Utd are filling th final relegation slot of five that will go down this season with fourteen games left to play. So a serious look at the team and, indeed, the coach has to be a big consideration leading into the July fixtures. Too many high crosses, easily dealt with by opposition de-

fences, need to be converted into low crosses from the wings that can cause confusion in defences. Also, our midfield need to be brighter and much more positive as the team heads into the last fixture of June away to Air Force Central FC on Saturday June 30th. Games in July are as follows: Bangkok Utd away on Saturday July 7th Bangkok Glass at home on Sunday July 15th (kick off 7pm) Suphanburi FC away on Sunday July 22nd Chiangrai Utd. At home on Sunday July 29th (kick off 6pm) For those home games in July against Bangkok Glass and Chiangrai Utd., our Dolphins are going to need all the support they can get. Dolphin Stadium is situated behind the temple at the far end of Soi Neurnplubwan from Sirkumvit. Entrance price is 150 baht 0r 200 baht for a VIP seat in the main stand. Come on…support your local team.

165th PSC MEMBER’S TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The Pattaya Sports Club 165th tournament was held at Pattana Golf Club & Resort on Wednesday 13th June. The event was kindly sponsored by the Holiday Inn Pattaya, MYTT Beach Hotel Pattaya, Tamajun Hotel Chanthaburi and the Eastern Star Country Club & Resort. Our sincere thanks go to our sponsors who help to make the day more enjoyable. We also need to thank the management and staff of Pattana Golf Club who also sponsored the day and presented the course in su-

perb condition. The welcome given to our golfers and the planning to provide a memorable day was exceptional. Pattaya Sports Club held their Annual General Meeting on Saturday the 9th June where some management changes were made. All things considered, to run a major tournament just four days later was not ideal. I would like to say a special thank you from myself to the following persons: Ron Gale our last golf chairman who has mentored me well in preparation for the tasks ahead.

BUNKER BOYS Monday, June 11th Thana City Country Club 1st Neil Carter (11) 38 points 2nd Keith Hemmings (21) 35 points 3rd Tony Robbins (23) 31 points Near pins Keith Hemmings, Neil Carter X 2. Today was the first time the beautiful Thana City Country Club appeared on the Bunker Boys golf schedule and it didn’t disappoint. The course fee and distance may have put off a few regulars nevertheless eleven players, ( a good number for low season) made the ninety-minute journey and enjoyed a special golf course in fine condition with the exception of the greens which had recently been cored and sanded and proved tricky to putt on. A stiff breeze also played a part in the challenge offered by the course, otherwise, the day was hot at times and pleasant at others. Neil Carter who has been in fine form lately continued on his merry way taking first place with a score of thirty-eight points. Second place went to Keith Hemmings with thirty-five points. Keith had an indifferent day with the putter sinking some very long putts and also missing some easy short ones.

Third place went to Tony Robbins, his first appearance in the winner’s circle since his return after a long lay off. Near pins went to Keith Hemmings and two to Neil Carter. Today we farewelled Keith Hemmings and Roger Touhy, both returning to the UK after a short stay. Wednesday. June 13th Pattaya Country Club 1st Steve Durey (21) 38 points 2nd Geoff Parker (13) 37 points 3rd Neil Carter (12) 35 points Near pins Frank Quinlan, Steve Durey, & Neil Carter X 2 A rare visit to our closest course Pattaya Country Club for our midweek game where a round dozen took part. The course was a bit shabby possible because of torrential overnight rain and strong winds. The course was littered with leaves and tree branches but otherwise ok. The pick, clean, and place rule was implemented due to the weather but as it turned out was rarely needed. A slower than expected round due to a slow group out ahead of us, not what is expected in low season. Enjoying a rich vein of recent good form, Steve Durey continued on his merry way taking first place with a fine round of thirty-eight. One stroke back Geoff Parker took second place and Neil Carter rounded out the top three with thirty-five points. Near pins went to Frank Quinlan, Steve Durey, and two to Neil Carter. The general consensus was that even at today’s lower course all in fee the course is still overpriced for what is on offer, so it may be some time before we return. Other courses we visit regularly offer more for less. Friday, June 15th Bangpra 1st Les Hall (24) 36 points 2nd Peter Allen (32) 31 points

ISSUE 603  JULY 2018

Dick Warberg the outgoing Vice President who has done a great deal in promoting and assisting with all things GOLF at Pattaya Sports Club. It was Dick who initiated this tournament. PSC Office Staff who indeed took care of me and made all the required ready giving an almost glitch free tournament. Mr. Stephen Truelove and Mr. Gerd Riedler Who both assisted in preparations and turned up on the day to get the tournament under way. Miss Ing Chaimonkon, Office/Publicity Manager. She has been responsible for pushing me in the right directions when I was heading off course! Last but not least, Mr. Nigel Cannon who as always is ready to step up to the mark to assist when needed. The actual competition started with a two tee start at 0900. There had been much concern as the night before produced severe rain in most places around the venue. Fortunately by the time we started

the weather was good and remained that way for the day Attendance was better than could be expected considering the recent changes in management. It was good to see some old faces appearing again to boost the numbers. Thank you to those persons also. Lady golfers were noted by their absence, this may have been a result of the ladies competition held at Burapha the day before. We started on the tee with only two ladies! The Long Drives of the day went to Simon Spalding A flight, Jack Jackson B flight and Brendon Core of C flight. Sunanta Duangwaw hit out for the ladies. Eddie Beilby picked up the prize for the Long Putt. A Flight near pins: Steve Rawlings, Christian Boysen (Twice!} and Simon Spalding. B Flight: Jerry Sweetnam, Mikael Andersson and Chaten Patel C Flight: Thomas Ostle, Torben Lindgaard, Brendon Cope and Stanley Rees Now for the Trophies:

Ladies (Uncontested) Sunanta Duangwaw

3rd Steve Durey (21) 31 points 4th Michael Brett (15) 31 points Near pins Craig Dows X 2, Michael Brett Twelve seems to be our most common low season number as it was again today for the last game of the week at Bangpra. Unlike many days recently the weather was fine and sunny. The course in its usual good condition and unusually there were no monkeys except for those with clubs in hand. The speed of play was pedestrian at best with our lead group held up by a very slow three ball. After some very good scores in recent time today the scores returned were very average with exception of Les Hall who is enjoying some good form and took first place with a score of thirtysix. Three players all ended up with thirty-one points and had to be separated by countback with the diminutive Peter Allen taking second place and the not so diminutive Steve Durey in third place. Newcomer Craig Dows took two near pins and a third to Michael Brett, with the fourth unclaimed.

play got underway at the scheduled time but soon it became apparent that the weather was not going to provide much joy. Light rain began to fall and it continued off and on throughout the round. Needless to say “lift, clean, and place” rule applied from the start. For some reason, the front nine was much dryer than the back nine but both provided a good challenge. The one to meet the challenge best was Jimmy Carr with a solid thirty-six points followed a point back by Robbie Watts and in third place with thirty-four points was the ever vocal Ray Warn. Near pins went to Robbie Watts, Neil Carter, and Michael Brett. Tuesday, June 19th Soi Dao Mountain Resort Course 1st Michael Brett (15) 37 points 2nd Robbie Watts (10) 34 points 3rd Alan Sullivan (14) 31 points Near pins Robbie Watts, Geoff Cox, Michael Brett They say “mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun, but who goes out to play golf in the pouring rain ?, the Bunker Boys of course. Heavy overnight and early morning rain ensured the course was in even worse condition than the first day. After a half hour delay due to more rain, play started thirty minutes late and it soon became apparent that we were in for another wet day. We soldiered on manfully for eight holes when the rain became so heavy that we had to take shelter for about forty minuted in the clubhouse. At times it looked like we might not be able to resume play however a break in the clouds came so off we went again. By this time the course was completely sodden and it became difficult to find a dry spot from which to play. Casual water littered the course and balls continually plugged. More heavy rain followed

but we somehow managed to complete the round. Under the circumstances, a score of thirtyseven points by Michael Brett was enough to take the honors and a good score in the conditions. Second place went to Robbie Watts with thirty-four points with Alan Sullivan bringing up the rear with thirty-one points. Near pins went to Geof Cox, Robbie Watts, and Michael Brett. Wednesday, June 20th Burapha A & B 1st Peter Allen (32) 40 points 2nd Jimmy Carr (18) 37 points 3rd Robbie Watts (10) 34 points Near pins Neil Carter, Robbie Watts, and Peter Allen What a difference a day makes, in the space of twenty-four hours we went from the rain-drenched sodden Soi Dao course to the sundrenched bone dry Burapha course for another of our rare low season visits. The course was in excellent condition but presents a serious golfing challenge with a number of parr four holes over four hundred yards in length. Curiously this presented no problems for one of our shortest players (both in stature and length off the tee) Peter Allen who played out of his skin to post a first time ever forty points to take first place. This is also the first time Peter broke one hundred and also joined a rare club by claiming a near pin using the driver, one feels a slash from the handicapper is imminent. Second place went to the ever consistent Jimmy Carr with thirtyseven points. Jimmy’s round included three birdies, and some wag was heard to ask what was he doing on the other holes?. Robbie Watts is now starting to play the kind of golf everyone knows he is capable of and took third with thirty-four points, we can

We would like all to enjoy the game, participate in the community and socialize with other like minded members. If we can do work like this then not only will our golfers benefit but also many of the poorest people and children in our community. Hopefully upcoming events will be published very soon and I look forward to welcoming as many as possible to our next Pattaya Sports Club tournament.

expect to see Robbie’s name on top of the scoresheet in the coming weeks. Near pins went to Peter Allen, Robbie Watts, and Neil Carter. Friday, June 22nd Mountain Shadow 1st Steve Durey (21) 36 points 2nd Robbie Watts(10) 34 points Near pins Geoff Parker, Michael Brett X 2 Due to heavy commitments earlier in the week and some of our members traveling our numbers were down today to the lowest so far this year. The golfing week ended under bright sunny skies at the Mountain Shadow course unlike the start of the week when grey skies and rain were the order of the day. The course was incredibly dry given recent rain and it played as tough as ever. A few holes on this course have become a nightmare for some golfers over the years and no score holes are common. Today the first parr three hole presented an additional challenge. The sprinklers had been left on for a prolonged period and the putting surface was waterlogged, trying to navigate around a rotating sprinkler spray and putt through the water was something new, as a result, only one player managed to parr the hole. Enjoying some consistent good form in recent weeks Steve Durey took the honors with a solid thirtysix points, and Robbie Watts who had a bit of an up and down round took second place with thirty-four. Near pins went to Geoff Parker and two to Michael Brett. With only three rounds to go the race for golfer of the month is again hotly contested with any one of four golfers capable of winning so it will be interesting to see who prevails. of a good but tiring day. T.T.F.N.

TROPICAL GOLF GROUP Tuesday the 19th June 2018 : Bangpakong Riverside Country Club. ( Stroke ) All looked good until we turned off the Motorway at the Bangpakong turnoff to suddenly find the road soaking wet and pools of water everywhere. The drive up had been fine with no sign of rain and to suddenly hit water was a surprise, it seemed like thunder showers had slipped in ahead of us. The rest of the trip in to the Golf Club was on soaking wet roads and the sky looked quite dark. The decision was made and we booked in, were told carts were only allowed on the cart path, and made our way to the first tee, hoping that the showers were over but aware it was pretty wet

all over with pools even in the bunkers. So those famous words were heard, ’ lift clean and place thru the green’. And it was wet with a soaking wet Course. Off we went and as said the Course was wet and the ball picked up mud, but the dark skies brightened and there was no rain. Yes it turned out a nice day. This is a relatively friendly Course to play with a straight forward layout, normally all before you but if you get off line you will be punished. With the rain and heavy going and only having the carts on the path, a lot of walking took place even for those with carts. With the Course fairly empty we zoomed around until we came up behind a 5 ball but they very kindly took longer at a stop and let us

through. All in all despite the grass being longer than normal. the greens were good and the Course played well. The drive back was quite clear so we were soon back at BJ’s. The reason we played Stroke play was that this was the day of the ‘Monthly Mug’ and on this day it was very closely played with 4 players with the same score and the winner declared on countback. The winner with a net 68 was John Pierrel on countback over Don Carmody in second and Brian Parish in third with Mashi Kaneta in fourth. Not often do we have so many in the countback but well done all. In fifth was Steve Truelove with a net 70 and in sixth was Derek Brook with a net 71. End

Friday, June 22, 2018, King Naga – St Riedler Tops the Field As it has been nine months since our last visit to Great Lakes, err, Rayong CC, err, King Naga, we decided to have a visit to check out the course and facilities. Being near the end of June with the numbers down, three four-balls headed down “36” after coffee and breakfast at BJ’s for the day’s competition. Check-in on arrival was smooth and easy on the wallet with great rates, whether walking, carting alone, or sharing. Soon changed and after a bit of chipping and putting, we were off the first tee a bit early. Always a challenging track, it is

SIAM COUNTRY RESORT Stanley Rees on fire at Crystal Bay On Tuesday 12th June we went to Eastern Star. It was a nice sunny day with an agreeable breeze. The course was in excellent condition with good and fair greens. It was enjoyable to play here. Despite the good conditions we didn’t have top scores. Nevertheless it was a close finish between Willem Lasonder and Jonathan Pratt. Willem kept his head cool on the last few holes and won with 35 stable ford points. Jonathan was second with 34 stable ford points.

The nears to the pin were for Willem Lasonder and Paddy Devereux (triple). Crystal Bay was our venue on Thursday 14th June. We played the C & B course. The course was also in good condition with fast greens. It was again a nice sunny day with a strong cool breeze. Despite his third day of golf in a row and overcoming a cold was Stan Rees the man of the day. He played very solid and won with 41 stable ford points. Good second was Neil Harvey with 35 stable ford points. The nears to the pin were for Dave Smith, Willem Lasonder, Neil

nice to see progress being made at King Naga to bring it back to a course one wishes to return to. While still a work in progress and currently with cored and sanded greens, the fairways were in good condition with less bare patches than before, the bunkers uniformly maintained, plenty of carts and caddies, and even some new benches and lockers in the clubhouse. On the course, it is wise to avoid getting much off the fairways as the undergrowth around the old rubber trees is very dense and balls hard to find. With the course practically to our selves, the groups were around at a good pace which allowed a chance to have a bite and drink in the clubhouse. Have to report the surroundings were pleasant and clean, the food was very good

at a reasonable price, and the staff courteous. So with cards collected the groups were headed back to Pattaya and BJ’s to learn who stayed out of the rough and managed the sanded greens the best on the day. With it close at the top, Gerd Riedler (CH 11) , 38 points, took the top step, followed by Mick Coghlan (25), 37 points, Dick Warberg (22), 36 points and Mashi Kaneta(17), 35 points. Best 9‘s, non-winners, went to Brian Parish and Daryl Evans. Well played and congratulations to all!! The Tropical Golf Group meets at “The BJ Holiday Lodge”, Pattaya Beach Rd., Soi 3, for friendly competitions on Tuesdays and Fridays. Golfers of any and all levels are welcome.

Topper Dave Smith On Tuesday 19th June we went to Pattaya Country Club. It was a half sunny day with most of the time a cool breeze. The course was in reasonable condition, but the greens were very bumpy. You must avoid coming in the rough. It is a real problem to come out of it. We had a good and enjoyable day. It was the day of David John Smith. He was in top form and played a round of 73 strokes. It was a pleasure to see him playing. He won today with 44 stable ford points. Second was Alan Wilson with 41 stable ford points and third Stuart Banks with 39

stable ford points. The nears to the pin were for Dave Smith and Jonathan Pratt. Pattavia was our venue on Thursday 21th June. The course was also in excellent condition with fast greens. The condition was much better than our Tuesdaycourse. It was again a nice warm and sunny day with a strong cool breeze. Today Willem Lasonder showed a good form and won with 42 stable ford points. Second was Jonathan Pratt with 38 stable ford points, beating Stan Rees on the count back. The nears to the pin were for Dave Smith and Stan Rees.

GROWLING SWAN PARICHAT– 18TH JUNE, 2018. PAUL SHARPLES COMES to TOWN. It was yet again a small field that headed out Monday to take on the challenge of Parichat Golf Course. Better known to most here as the ball course as our crew donate balls at a record number every time we play the course. Not the last time we played but a couple of trips back we lost (3 different golfers) 13, 15 and 18 balls all on the one day. A great course that can test you and I guess that’s why we head back every couple of months. I would also like to say that the people at the course are very friendly and go out of their way to help you, this visit they gave all golfers a litre of Beer. Prior to this visit it was a meal voucher, I guess they are doing all they can to promote the course.

LINKS GOLF SOCIETY Pattana..Wed..Jun.20..S/ford Phil goes From Wig to Winner It’s a good thing we don’t allow gambling in Thailand as many would lose plenty if we bet on golfers, with the many drastic form reversals. Two days ago Phil Davies wore the dreaded “wig” for having the worst score of the day. Today he wears the Green Jacket by having the best score of the day. A small field of thirteen came out to play at the beautiful Pattana Golf Club, in fine weather and with a steady breeze, at times a bit stronger than that, for most of the round so to keep conditions pleasant. The Golf Course was once again in excellent condition with the only “complaint” being that the greens on “A” course were a little grainy and slower. However, the “B” course greens were in their usual

The course was in good nick so we took it on from The White Tees, weather was on our side not too hot and a breeze that made things a little easier. Greens were somewhat tricky, on one hole you had to putt uphill unfortunately if you were not built like Big Arnie the ball would meet you going back to beyond where you started. That’s golf! It was Paul Sharples that showed the way not sure as to how many balls Paul lost be he was the one that came up with the most points earned on the day. Second past the post was Bill Steinmann four shots behind our leader and Paul Hack was third past the post. Not many reveals as to how many balls lost on the day, Andy was honest and admitted to me that he lost 11, I guess he had to he borrowed them from me! Results for Parichat

excellent shape. Fairways were cut to suit, so there was no reason for, at least some players, to score well.. We did have good scoring! Phil Davies showed you can’t keep a good golfer down, for long, and went right to the top with a great 40 points to win by three. The now consistent Greg Perfrement was there again, and with his 37 points took second spot. Seems this trip he is always somewhere on the podium. Another very recent “wig” wearer is Dave Hewson, who has found some form since that day and only missed third place on a countback. Nigel Harrison runs hot and cold, but held out Dave to grab third for himself, both players with 36 points. This is regarded as a fairly tough course to score on, but nine of the thirteen players had 30 points or better. Good golfing!

STABLEFORD - Burapha – 21st of June 2018. “The Turtle” was far too good for the Field. On this warm, sultry day we headed to Burapah (I believe it is the best course we play) with no chance of rain we were looking at a good day for golf. Unfortunately the day did get hotter and, with

little or no breeze it was a bit uncomfortable. The numbers were up a little from last week giving us seventeen starters, we played from the white tees and played nine’s A & B in that order. The course (as usual) was in great nick, fairways were pristine and on all reports the greens were playing true. I am not sure that Buffalo Bill will agree with me on that! Also the price being offered to us was right. Everything about this course is great it’s such a shame that we only get to play there for a short period of time per year, we could add this course to our playing list every month if pricing was the same. But we are guided by what is the ridiculous time that is referred to as Seasonal. When will people get it through their heads that Seasons (high and Low) no longer exists. One can only hope that the people that are in charge of this great course read this and take these comments on board! If interested we will be prepared to commit ourselves for the year! Andrew Allen turned up with his game head on and took to the course with gay abandon, his 22 points on the front nine and 18 on the back nine giving him a return of 40 points, what a great score! Second past the

post was Denis Steele, (welcome back to the winners circle mate) only one shot behind the winner. Third and fourth places went to the count back system to separate three golfers. Winning the count back thus getting third place was evergreen Mashi Kaneta with Ted Morris filling fourth placing. The unlucky golfer that missed the podium was Buffalo Bill Steinmann. Winners at Burapah. 1st Andrew Allen (34) 40 pts. 2nd Denis Steele (16) 39 pts. 3rd Mashi Kaneta (15) 37 pts. 4th Ted Morris (18) 37 pts. Near The Pin. We then said goodbye to Volker Buley and Andy Zwart. Volker is returning home and Andy is heading off on holiday. Good luck to you both and travel safe! but the days are still hot, humid and wearing for golfers while out on the golf course. No rain means more work for the Greenkeepers to keep courses up to their best condition. Somehow the management at Pattavia Century are doing a fine job, as today this course was, as always, in splendid condition. The greens have been allowed to grow a tad longer, as has been the case for some time now. No problem here, as they are not as slick as they once were, and now much more putter friendly. That doesn’t mean your putt won’t still go sailing past the hole if you miss, but not quite as far, and may actually stay on the green. The grass may be shorter, but the contours are the same. A good field of eighteen “Links” golfers arrived by mini bus and cars to find another Golf Club with a terrific price of 1350 bht G/fee, Caddy, Cart. Thank you Pattavia. Paul Chesney has been away for a short visit to the UK and, in just his second game back, took on Pattavia and won. His 39 points was a great result and gave him the chance to again don the Green Jacket. Phil Davies has run into some very good form recently and, following on from his 40 points

VAN DAM POWERS INTO SHARE OF LEAD IN THAILAND

Anne Van Dam of the Netherlands produced a brilliant five-under-par 67 in hot and humid conditions to share the lead with local player Aunchisa Utama on day one of the Ladies European Thailand Championship. The 22-year-old Dutchwoman made a flying start with four straight birdies from the 11th – her second hole – and although she double bogeyed the par-4 15th, the 2016 Xiamen International Ladies Open champion immediately re-

covered with a pair of birdies on the 16 th and 18 th to make the turn in four-under. She then scored another birdie at the par-4 third to set the pace at five-under at Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya. “I’m working on some different things in my swing, so I was just focusing on that and not so much the score,” said the longest hitter on tour. “I’ve been hitting my driver a lot better, as I’ve been changing a few things with my coach to hit them a bit higher and a straighter ball flight. I hit some really good ones today.” Her best came on the 469-yard par-5 seventh, where she hit a drive of 315 yards and she added: “I like the seventh hole. I didn’t birdie it today, but it’s a good risk, reward hole. There are a lot of good holes on this course. I can

reach all the par fives if I pitch it on the fairway. From the rough, it’s too tough to get out of and stop it on the green. “I was really stupid on 15, because I hit the perfect tee shot but had completely the wrong yardage, so I hit it straight into a bush, way too far and had a really unlucky lie. I didn’t hit a bad shot today, just one really good shot where I didn’t think about it that well. It was a bit of a shame, but I’m happy with how I hit back from that double to get right into it.” It looked as though Van Dam’s morning lead would remain all day until Utama got to work on her back nine. Five birdies on the way home ensured that the 27-year-old from Lopburi (the same home town as Thongchai Jaidee), would be sharing the lead as the first day came to an end. Utama, who won one Thai LPGA tournament five years ago, credited a hot putter and said: “I was lucky to hole some long putts.” In contrast to last year, when only six players scored under par and the winning score was five-under-

par, there were plenty of birdies on the leader board and the tournament remains wide open. England’s Gabriella Cowley and Australian Whitney Hillier, whose mother is from Thailand, are both only one shot adrift with Beth Allen from the United States and Maria Palacios from Spain both on threeunder. Cowley said: “I had three birdies on the spin on 11, 12 and 13 and I played really solid the rest of the round. If you hit your driver well, you can give yourself a lot of chances here. The greens are difficult, some stop quickly and some release, so it all about judging it the best you can and giving yourself a decent putt.” Hillier said: “I played really solid. I hit 12 fairways and actually only 13 greens, but the misses were only just off the green and I left myself in good positions. I made my birdie opportunities where I could. I’m pretty happy today!” The shot of the day belonged to Scotland’s Michele Thomson, who holed out with a 7-iron from 164 yards on the par-3 14th for her first

professional ace. She said: “It’s my first hole-in-one as a pro, so it was pretty special. I’ve had two as an amateur, both at my home club in a monthly medal at McDonald Golf Club Ellon, where I grew up as a junior. “Nothing else really happened today, it was one-over and steady. I had a little problem with my back yesterday. I hit a shot on the range and felt a muscle pop, so I had to pull out of the Pro-Am. It was just

nice to be able to play today and to be able to swing.” As the championship moves into day two, it would take a brave person to try and predict the winner after the events of day one on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand. ORGANIC OR FAKE?

Musicians and music lovers usually fall into two groups. Those who like to hear the organic sound of real instruments played by quality highly trained slaves to their chosen instrument or voice, OR those who couldn’t give a damn how the track they’re listening to was made, so long as it makes them feel good. Technology has helped so many talented and, sometimes, talent challenged ‘performers’ to have successful hit records in a highly competitive marketplace, that there is always a debate about the level of scandalousness that has allowed machines to take over the human element of an audio delight. It’s a bit like breasts. Untampered natural ones can be a wonderful thing if pleasing on the eye and touch. However, to many the surgically enhanced item(s) can also be just as asthetically pleasing and, although maybe not having the feel of a pair of uninterfered originals, the overall visual experience is one that will appeal favourably to the discerning recipient. Is that clear enough? Ponder

ISSUE 603  JULY 2018

for a while……and carry on. As most know, I am a big fan of sixties and seventies music where almost all instruments and voices were organic and natural. Suddenly, along came technology in the shape of firstly, guitar effects, then synthesisation, followed by studio trickery including vocal autotune and finally beat and musical sequence generation. The advancement of technological breakthroughs to make it easier for the novice to produce a polished final master recording is something that now has to be accepted. So, is it wrong for an electronically enhanced piece of music to exist? I am guilty, your honour, of using every trick I can get hold of to enhance my productions because, although as I earlier stated, I value and love the sounds that I grew up with from a few decades back, I am a realist who knows that to compete in today’s market, with a very few exceptions, your finished master recording must be A1 smooth as silk with not a hair out of place. For me, the beauty of a raw early Beatles disc was the simplicity of the basic band topped off with energetic and enthusiastic vocals, natural and inventive harmonies together with extremely well written songs that can sound just as good played and sung acoustically with not even a guitar amp to enhance the finished result. However, I am just as taken with a modern processed pop master-

piece such as the type Maroon 5 produce which sound so good on the radio. Vocal autotuning is lambasted by some but we have all been singing along to processed voices for a long time now. I was first aware of perfect pitch tuning on Shania Twain’s massive world wide hits with producer Mutt Lange’s highly autotuned backing vocals providing an important ingredient to the overall sound. My thoughts at that time were that if a top hit making ‘rock’ producer like Mutt Lange who had just produced world best sellers for Brian Adams, Def Leppard and AC/DC was using technology to enhance a great pop record, then so shall I, instantly installing all the electronic toys I could muster into my studio. Hits followed as a result. The challenge for any music producer is how far to take it. Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling who produced ‘Believe’ by Cher in ‘98 took autotuning to the max by setting the amount to 100% in part, but in doing so, made a record that hit the number one spot for many weeks. Now it can be quite common to hear an obviously tuned voice, many times for arty effect. Nowadays, in the same way that many top producers do, I like to keep as much of an organic sound as possible but use the latest computer technology tecniques to push a few notes into exactly the right place or take a great vocal performance that might be a bit ‘pitchy’ and smooth out the nasty bits. This does not mean, however, that anyone can sound good. A fair

modicum of talent is needed in the first place. I can make a good singer or player sound great but I cannot make a poor performance sound good. So please, do not fool yourself that just because you can sound OK on a Karaoke system, then pop stardom is for you and the guy behind the mixing desk can make you sound as fabulous as Lady GaGa or Bruno Mars.

Before all this technology came along, I would spend hours and hours with a singer (and some very famous ones at that) perfecting a line for performance, diction and correct pitching. Now a lot of this frustrating time has been saved because, so long as you have a fairly near perfect take with a charismatic performance, the smoothing out process can be

achieved in post-production. The END RESULT is all that matters as that is what will be heard on the radio, hopefully spurring the discerning listener to become a fan. BUT….there is still nothing better than a live, organic, original sounding performance to stir the loins.

96FM – ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC

‘Sunshine Hits’ on 96 is the stations motto. However, what is a ‘Sunshine Hit’ you may ask? Basically, it’s any music that is bright, popular, uplifting, with a feel good factor and compliments Pattaya as a fun city. Of course, not everyone will be satisfied by our output but other stations are available, providing dance, rap, extended news etc.. If that still doesn’t fulfill your needs, the internet can provide every genre available. Our philosophy at Pattaya People Radio is to provide a commercial soundtrack to each beautiful day here in our wonderfully colourful city targeted to the age range of Ex Pats most likely to be listening to local radio on a daily basis, whether at home, driving, or living far away but needing a connection to keep in touch with this area. Therefor you’re going to hear plenty of singalongable classic old-

ies with a smattering of recent releases that will fit into the ‘Sunshine Hit’ description. In addition there’s news from around the world and a regularly updated ‘Whats On – Pattaya Events and Gig Guide’ featuring a ‘heads up’ on what’s coming up in the coming week and in a few weeks time. We even try to make the ads entertaining so it’s a feast on non stop fun. We have hosts and feature programming but the music is the main ingredient. Best way to judge is by observing how the next track that comes on makes you feel. Does it make you smile and get you trying to sing. Does it make you feel like dancing or, at least, tapping your fingers or foot. Feedback is always useful and the biggest response we get are from those sixties and seventies fans with the eighties another popular era.

Let’s face it, songs by the The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Small Faces, The Who, Tamla Motown, etc., will never die and still sound as fresh as when they were first released. Tracks by T.Rex, David Bowie, The Bee Gees, Abba and other amazing musical

generation of shiny artists emerged focusing on production as well as good songwriting and performance. In addition there have been some original and interesting new artists in recent years who make great radio tracks. Even the fifties, despite

seventies artists have a fun quality that has never been surpassed. The appearance of the synthesizer in the eighties changed the sound of popular music and a whole new

using basic recording techniques, gave us Rock ‘n Roll artists with so much character and style that certainly fit into the ‘Sunshine Hit’ category.

So, our lives really can be all about the music we love and enhance our existence on this planet everyday. 96FM is the one station in town that cares about its’ musical output and tries to give that ‘wow’ factor everytime a new track is

played. Whatever you might be doing, driving, cooking, relaxing by the pool, partying, …. Enjoy the vibrant and go-ahead dynamic sound of ‘Sunshine Hits’ on 96FM, Pattaya People Radio…….DIG IT.
