FANTASTIC FOOD PRESENTATION
This month we are treated to visiting Pebbles Restaurant located within the Renaissance Resort in Na Jomtien, a bit passed the Ambassador. It is a beautiful set-
ting beachside with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor bar is very inviting. One cannot help but notice the daily specials on the board, this
evening included Canadian Lobster as well. Throughout the meal one could not help but notice the exceptional plating and presentation of the food. Every course came with complimenting colors in contrast and each with a unique flavor suited to the dish. Truly works of art. One dish included mint caviar. I said who knew there were mint fish? Nobody laughed. We met with the staff who were exceptionally accommodating to plan our meal. We insured there were vegetarian entrees as well as an assortment of fish and meats. My never ending swordfish search continues but they assured me they would come close. I had a glass of Chardonnay and they brought me a nice cocktail as well to get started, it was
tare, set in seashells. It was easy to eat two. Next came Salmon Trout. Candidly I enjoyed it more than normal salmon, nice texture and not so fishy. One more appetizer of course and this time it was seared crusted tuna on a bed of assorted veggies. Even the cucumbers were artfully carved into bite sized flowers. At this point one can’t help but room”. Two service people show up with what looked to be about a meter square pieces of ½ inch Plexiglas and place it covering the entire table. The desert chef arrives and begins “painting” the Plexiglas, first with a dark chocolate sauce and then with a white chocolate

notice everything is lightly seasoned, while every dish offers a variety of tastes nothing is ever bland nor too spicy. Niels our Vegan gourmet ordered simply a mixed green salad and Gnocchi. The gnocchi portion was large and looked good. Two main courses arrived, one was medallions of lamb and the other a combination of kingfish and scallops. The kingfish came close to my desired swordfish so it was a pleasant surprise. It was a nice sized filet so some made it home with me. Again the pre-
sauce. Dollops of strawberry sauce arrive as well as dried fruits places around on the Plexiglas. Next came an assortment of scoops of ice creams and fudges, topped with choco-

I would like to reprint this unique interview here, but please ad 20 years to all the figures mentioned in the story. Among the Thai community of Pattaya, the name of Khun Prinya Chavalitthamrong is well known as one of the pioneers of what
has become Thailand’s premier resort on the Eastern Seaboard. Over the last 50 years Khun Prinya has watched Pattaya develop from virgin jungle into a popular tourist city, famous across the world. Khun Prinya Chavalitthamrong has
been a pivotal part of this development and commented, “In the past this land was a forest with barking deer and forest cocks,” he recalled.
FIRST VISIT “Some fifty years ago - during the Second World War- my wife and I traveled to Pattaya to look at land owned by Khun Samran Karnprapa. We met up with Khun Samran and were taken in a jeep owned by Khun Sanan, Dr. Amnuay Weerawan’s father”. “We left at 8 a.m. and drove along Sukhumvit Road to Bangpakong where we crossed the Bangpakong River by ferry and continued on to Banglamung. From there we had to go by foot
to a place called Hin Khong. The forest contained a lot of cassava trees and we spent time wandering around and looking at the area,” Khun Prinya related. It was on this trip that Prinya decided to buy some land. “1 first bought 500 rai of land for less

He then left it wild and uninhabited for some time. “In south Pattaya there were only houses for a few fishermen, and nobody inhabited what is now Pattaya Klang. To go to Naklua or Banglamung you had to wait for low tide.” THE BIRTH OF PATTAYA CITY “1 believed then that Pattaya had the potential to be developed as a place for tourists. My brother Khun Prayoon (who was the sheriff at Nonthaburi) built two houses. They were constructed on what

Some equipment was transported by ship. There were no access roads, no electricity and not enough people in Pattaya to build houses,” he said. “Later, I persuaded rich men from Bangkok to buy land and build houses. would work as watchmen at night to earn more money. In this way they saved enough to buy land of their own,” Khun Prinya continued. “For fear that the development would come slowly, it was suggested that we construct an access road. We set the budget at 40,000 Baht and later we tried to raise another 200,000 Baht to build a road from Naklua to south Pattaya. I had no choice but to rent steamrollers at 5,000 Baht a day. After the road was constructed we managed to get the Department of Public Works to lay electricity wires.” “The development of Pattaya as a site for tourism began after a
journalist named Wanasiri of the Ploenchit newspaper, along with other reporters, came down to Pattaya,” Khun Prinya related. Khun I?rinya said the journalists went walking along the beach around the area which is now the site of the Dusit Resort Hotel. They were impressed with what they saw and wrote glowingly in the newspaper about the area. Shortly after that Thai people began to visit Pattaya in increasing numbers. The area received a boost when tourist agencies in Bangkok began bringing groups of 30 to 40 people down for brief holidays.

TAT TARGET 10% GROWTH IN 2020
Bangkok– Gearing up to mark its 60th anniversary in 2020, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reaffirmed its commitment to making travel and tourism the kingdom’s most economically promising, environmentally sustainable, and culturally vibrant sector in the years to come. Addressing the Thai tourism private sector and media after the week-long Tourism Action Plan meetings, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said that the completion of the auspicious 5th cycle of life will be a time for reflection on past achievements and careful management of a new era of chal-
lenges set to emerge in a highly competitive and constantly changing global and regional environment. “With the positive outcome in 2018, Thai tourism has clearly succeeded in fulfilling its mandate,” he said. “We will work even harder to maintain our brand image, preserve our competitive advantages, and ensure that the socio-economic benefits of international and domestic tourism are spread right across the country.” The targets for 2020 are to boost total tourism revenues by 10% over the projection for this year. TAT has also set clear directions
8 THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE OF PATTAYA
to move the Thai tourism industry out of mass tourism and towards responsible tourism with an emphasis on revenue-generating quality tourists. The idea of responsible tourism will be spread out through the channels of TAT in-house magazine named Osotho. For the domestic market, TAT will categorise customers into various segments; such as, Gen X, Gen Y, family and millennial family, silver age, lady, first jobber, multi-gen, and corporate. In the foreign markets, TAT will focus on specific quality markets and middle-upper income groups (Go High). It will seek first-time visitors in new markets and in the long-standing source markets (Go New Customer). It will also attempt to balance out the seasonality factor and generate more demand in the “Green Season” (Go Low). Alongside efforts to build a strong image of Thailand in order to maintain its competitive advantages, other products will be developed and marketed; such as, homestays, walking streets and local cuisine (Go Local). Meanwhile, digital technology will be devised to reach the customers (Go Digital). The core communication marketing theme will remain “Open to the New Shades” that focuses on providing positive and unexpected experiences. Following on from the long-standing Amazing Thailand slogan, widely recognised as one of the most impressive brand campaigns in Asia, the future advertising campaigns will continue to specific target groups and highlight the friendliness and hospitality of the Thai people. To keep the position as a preferred destination, TAT will maintain to be 1 of top 6 countries that generated tourism revenue, and in the top 3 in the Loyalty Index in the Asia Pacific.
On the 4th July 2019, William Hurndell passed away in London England where he was undergoing medical treatment. William was 86 years young. Born in the UK, William later moved to France, and later still retired to the Naklua area of Pattaya Thailand around 15 years ago. He was very active in the local community as a member of Rotary, the Pattaya Expats Club, and seen collecting for the annual SOS Rice Appeal for local charities – and many more interests.

TAT GOVERNOR INTERVIEW PRESTIGIOUS GOLD AWARD
Bangkok – In this interview, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn highlights Thai society’s longstanding respect for nature and close relationship with the animal kingdom, and how TAT continues to build on its history of animal welfare and wildlife conservation, particularly in emerging and secondary destinations. Q: What is the history of Thailand in relation to elephants? The role of the elephant in Thailand has been a long one that we’re not really sure when it actually began. In various times in history, the Thais took advantage of the elephants’ sheer size and strength to protect the Kingdom in battle and also put them to work across the country for generations in lieu of machinery. The elephant is also the national symbol and has special spiritual significance with its deep associations with Buddhism and Hinduism. So, it
must always be revered and well taken care of.
support to conserve the country’s biological diversity.
Q: What are examples of elephant conservation?
Q: How is TAT currently promoting emerging secondary destinations to showcase how humans and animals live in harmony?
There are many conservation projects and sanctuaries around Thailand in all regions. Examples include but are not limited to the Elephant Hospital in Lampang, the Elephants World in Kanchanaburi, and Phang Nga Elephant Park in Southern Thailand’s Phang Nga province to name only a very few. Q: What about other animals? The Wildlife Fund Thailand conducts a Thai peacock conservation project in Lamphun province. Another is the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation that has a behavioural tracking project for goral in Thai forests. Also, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (formerly World Wildlife Fund) has operated in Thailand since 1995, ensuring that there is strong participation and
TAT’s research has identified the need to position 55 secondary provinces within the “big picture” of Thailand’s tourism development. The plan is to create conceptual models that are specific to each secondary province, especially rural areas where agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for the locals. Even with the evolution of modern farm machinery, the bond between the Thai people and animals remains the strongest in the countryside. This is part of TAT’s “Local Experience” pillar that gives visitors an in-depth experience; such as, community-based tourism, lifestyle, wisdom, local identity and distinction of each area.

Nowadays there are 24 hotels that rent my land,” he stated proudly: In 1969, the Ministry of the Interior drafted legislation, which gave Pattaya the status of a city, and Khun Prinya was appointed to the Pattaya City council. “At that time the man who really began to put Pattaya onto the international stage was the swiss hotelier, Mr. Alois X. Fassbind, the first manager of Royal Cliff Beach Resort. He is rightly spoken of as ‘Mister Pattaya City’,” Khun Prinya stated proudly. “One day General Sathap Keyanontha, who was the mayor of Pattaya City, asked me to go to see the katoey show at Tiffany’s. I had never been interested in this type of show but I went with him. I found the show was spectacular and I enjoyed the performance. After that some people rented 12 rai of land from me and built the theatre which now has the Alcazar Show. ‘ “Khun Sutham Phanthusak rented my land to build a new Tiffany
Show theatre, moving from South Pattaya to North Pattaya. This show now looks like the symbol of Pattaya.” Khun Prinya stated. “I should also mention two brothers, Khun Vichit and Khun Sant Supornsahasrungsri, who have developed Pattaya by renting my land and building over ten hotels.” EARLY RETIREMENT Khun Prinya continued, “Once I was the Deputy Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Industry but I stepped down five years before I was due for retirement in order to run my business in Pattaya. By royal command I was made a member of Pattaya City and was approached to run for mayor, but I did not accept,” Khun Prinya said. “Sometimes I go to stay in the United States. I take some medicine and some vitamins. My only problem is that I have trouble sleeping,” Khun Prinya said. Khun Prinya- now aged 83- still owns approximately 500 rai of land in Pattaya but lives a simple life in a house right on Wongamat beach. “1 think Pattaya is growing to a peak but it has not achieved its best because the administration and the management of the city are somewhat directionless,” he claimed. “1 am so proud to have played a little part in developing Thailand and take great delight in watching Pattaya grow,” he concluded. here you should abide by the rules of Thai Immigration according to the “Immigration Act of 1979”.
We have received this important information from Chonburi Immigration Police and asked to inform foreigners living here or visiting as tourists about this matter. WHY - Foreigners who get arrested in a criminal case and have bail approved by a Thai court and are released, and then still get arrested and imprisoned by Thai Immigration? WHAT FOREIGNERS SHOULD KNOW - If you want to stay in Thailand or spend a holiday
ISSUE 616 AUGUST 2019
The most important rules you must know about are: Foreigners should not come here to break the law or hurt Thai people in any way. If foreigners violate Thai laws, Immigration can cancel their visa, and deport them from Thailand. That is why even if a Thai court let a foreigners post bail in a criminal case, the Immigration can still cancel their visa and have them jailed until their case is completed at the court, where after they might be deported and Blacklisted from ever re-entering Thailand. THE WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM - The foreigner must appeal the visa cancellation within 48 hours to the Thai Ministry of Interior.

tional benefits for a longer duration while Zone 3 has further benefits after the initial exemption period has expired. These privileges are valuable to an up and coming business and can make a difference in the long term future. With Thailand BOI promotions foreign companies can own land when previously only a Thai company could. This is a huge step forward as before foreign companies could only lease land for a period of time or set up a Thai company under nominee which can be risky when dealing with multi million baht industry. BOI also help simplify work permit and visa procedure enabling a swift and trouble free application or renewal for long term employees or experts flown in on a temporary basis, this service opens up a wealth of opportunities and advantages for your business. A big
benefit or having a BOI promoted company is the ability to return profits to overseas efficiently enabling a branch manufacturing company in Thailand to return earnings to its parent company overseas. Both the school and the college had elaborate parades, with stu-
dents carrying portraits of His Majesty the King, and younger students carrying the trophies. It could have ended in disaster within the first five minutes as the special needs athletes paraded a bit too close to where a wheelchair race was taking place. Catastrophe was averted and it was a wonderful day, and the
noise was deafening, but the events showed some students had considerable sporting talent. The flame to open the games at the special needs school was carried by a young man who not only attends the school but has lived at the Father Ray Children’s Home for eleven years and is a member of the Thailand Special Olym-
pics futsal team. As usual there were many races, but the college students compete according to their disability. A student with one leg cannot compete against someone who is missing an upper limb, who in turn cannot compete against a wheelchair racer, so they all have their own race.

PATTAYA FUN RUN While the 2019 Pattaya Marathon, and the half marathon race, may have taken the runners on a scenic route around Pattaya, Pratamnak and Jomtien, there was a smaller race that did not go as far. The Fun Run saw racers run down beach Road towards Dolphin Roundabout, then along Second Road before turning right onto Pattaya Klang and the finish line on Beach Road. The 3.75km race started with more than forty wheelchair racers, all current and former students, and several teachers, from the local Technological College for people with Disabilities, part of the Father Ray Foundation. As soon as the klaxon was sounded the wheelchairs raced down the road, all except one young men. Unable to use his brand new electric wheelchair, donated to him by a sponsor, he was back in his manual chair, and unable to use his hands due to cerebral palsy he was left with just one foot to pull himself along. He was swamped by the hundreds, if not thousands, of mostly children on the Fun Run and he refused all offers of help, and he received many. He wanted to finish the race himself, he was never going to win and he knew he would come last, but he wanted to finish his first ever race all by himself. Before he had even reached the hill up to the Dolphin Roundabout several of his school mates had
already finished the race, but he continued at his own pace and cheered on by fellow racers and spectators. The annual Fun Run is just what it says it is, a lot of fun. Families run together, the elderly trying to better their personal best times, groups of school children and even super-heroes. So you have a year to train and get ready! Derek Franklin

COLLOIDAL SILVER - THE NIGHTMARE OF BIG PHARMA benefits the body in numerous ways, including providing numerous medical uses. Here are eight proven healing properties supported by the medical literature.
MD, documented over 650 different disease-causing pathogens that were destroyed in minutes when exposed to small amounts of silver.
1. Antibacterial and Antimicrobial
2. Wound Care/Skin Health
While employed at UCLA Medical School in the 1980s, Larry C. Ford, What Is Colloidal Silver?
How Colloidal Silver Works?
Colloidal silver is a solution composed of microscopic silver particles floating in water. The particle size of silver in the solution varies from 0.001 to 0.01 microns in diameter. This colloidal liquid demonstrates antimicrobial effect, thanks to the presence of silver particles. Dating back to ancient times, silver was also a popular remedy to stop the spread of diseases. Its use as a natural antibiotic continued all the way until the 1940s, when modern antibiotics arrived.
Oxygen plays a key role in the metabolic processes occurring in bacteria, viruses, and fungi. All these pathogens utilize an enzyme to promote metabolism of oxygen. Colloidal silver targets this enzyme and weakens it considerably. As a result, the pathogens are unable to use oxygen for their survival, eventually causing their death. Top 8 Proven Colloidal Silver Benefits By having a direct effect on cellular respiration, colloidal silver
Colloidal silver stimulates healing in the skin and other soft tissues. Colloidal silver should be considered for topical use to treat burns, thrush, periodontitis and other conditions. Colloidal silver benefits many skins conditions such as psoriasis and eczema as well. It’s soothing to scrapes and even repairs tissue damage from burns. 3. Pink Eye/Ear Infections Colloidal silver can be used for prompt action against this irritating and highly infectious virus and bacteria. When applied on the infected eye, the tiny silver colloids pick up the infected cells by attracting them electromagnetically and sending them into the bloodstream to be eliminated. 4. Antiviral Colloidal silver benefits can be experienced as an anti-viral for HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, herpes, shingles and warts. Colloidal silver suffocates the virus and can even reduce the activity of the HIV virus in AIDS patients. There are also numerous anecdotal accounts of colloidal silver’s efficacy against the hepatitis C virus. 5. Anti-Inflammatory Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) studied the effects of inflammation after being treated by colloidal silver; they found that the inflamed skin of pigs treated with silver experienced near-normal skin after 72 hours, while other treatment groups not treated with silver remained inflamed. Research is beginning to reflect what many

chitis and pneumonia when ingested internally, but an even more effective way to utilize it? Simply breathe it into your lungs. Wanna try?
6. Sinusitis Widely used to control sinus infections, colloidal silver can benefit people as a nasal spray or nasal rinses. It also destroys Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, which may be the reason why airborne allergy sufferers often find such dramatic relief from colloidal silver.
HealtHut Colloidal Silver is available in different size and for different purposes, from humans to pets. Yes, this natural product is also very efficient for pets care, as well as for our living environment (kitchen, bathroom, laundry …). Easy to use, safe and long
7. Cold/Flu In 2011 the NIH took 100 children under the age of 12 suffering from the common cold and nasal congestion and assigned them into two groups; the first group was treated with a solution of colloidal silver and beta glucan, and the second group with saline solution. Even though both groups benefited from the treatment, 90% of the people in the colloidal silver group completely recovered! 8. DR.KAMALJIT SINGH HEALTH TIPS:SURPRISING THINGS THAT RAISE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE Salt, Worries and Anger aren’t the only things that can cause spikes. See what else can bump your numbers- Dr. Kamaljit Singh
• The Bigger Picture: -You’ve probably heard to watch the amount of salt you eat, especially if you’re concerned about your blood pressure. That’s because it makes your body hold on to water, putting extra stress on your heart and blood vessels. Salt — and worry, and anger — aren’t the only things that can raise your blood pressure. Although temporary “spikes” aren’t necessarily a problem, numbers that remain high over time can cause serious damage. • Added Sugar: -It may be even more important than salt in raising your blood pressure, especially in a processed form like high-fructose corn syrup. People with more added sugars in their diet see a significant rise in both their upper and lower numbers. Just one 24-ounce soft drink causes an average 15-point bump in systolic pressure (the top number, or the pressure during a heartbeat) and 9 in diastolic (the bottom number, or the pressure between beats). • Loneliness: -This isn’t just about the number of friends you have — it’s about feeling connected. And being stressed or depressed doesn’t fully explain the effect. It also gets worse with time: Over 4 years, the upper blood pressure of the loneliest people in a study went up more than 14 points. The researchers think an ongoing fear of rejection and disappointment and feeling more alert about your safety and security may change how your body works. • Sleep Apnea: -People with sleep apnea have higher odds of getting high blood pressure and other heart problems. When your breathing is repeatedly interrupted while you’re sleeping, your nervous system releases chemicals that raise your blood pressure. Plus, you’re getting less oxygen, which could damage blood vessel walls and make it harder for your body to regulate your blood pressure down the road. • Not Enough Potassium: -Your kidneys need a balance of sodium and potassium to keep the right amount of fluid in your blood. So even if you’re eating a low-salt diet, you could still have higher blood pressure if you’re not also eating enough fruits, veggies, beans, lowfat dairy, or fish. While you may think of bananas as the go-to source, broccoli, water chestnuts, spinach, and other leafy greens are better to get potassium if you’re watching your weight.
ISSUE 616 AUGUST 2019
• Pain: -Sudden, or acute, pain ramps up your nervous system and raises your blood pressure. You can see this effect when you put one hand in ice water, press on your cheek or fingernail, or get an electric shock to your finger. • Herbal Supplements: -Do you take ginkgo, ginseng, guarana, ephedra, bitter orange, or St. John’s wort? These and others can raise your blood pressure or change how medications work, including drugs to control high blood pressure. • Thyroid Problems: -When this gland doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone, your heart rate slows, and your arteries get less stretchy. Low hormone levels also might raise your LDL “bad” cholesterol, another thing that can stiffen arteries. Blood moves through hard vessels faster, pushing on the walls and raising the pressure. Though not as common, too much thyroid hormone can make your heart beat harder and faster, which will also bump up your numbers. • You Have to Pee: -Systolic pressure went up an average of about 4 points, and diastolic, 3 points, in a study of middle-aged women who hadn’t gone to the bathroom for at least 3 hours. Men and women of different ages saw similar effects. High blood pressure becomes more likely as you age, so you need to get accurate readings. An empty bladder could be one way to help do that. • NSAIDs: -All nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, can raise your numbers — whether you’re healthy or you already have high blood pressure. Though the average rise is only a few points, there’s a wide range, which means it could affect some people much more than others.
cations less effective. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you choose over-the-counter products for sinus problems and colds that are safer if you have high blood pressure. • Dehydration: -When your body’s cells don’t have enough water, your blood vessels tighten up. This happens because your brain sends a signal to your pituitary gland to release a chemical that shrinks them. And your kidneys make less pee, to hang on to the fluid you do have, which also triggers tiny blood vessels in your heart and brain to squeeze more. • Hormonal Birth Control: -Pills, injections, and other birth control devices use hormones that narrow blood vessels, so it’s possible your blood pressure will go up. It’s more likely to be a problem for women who are older than 35, overweight, or smokers. You may want to keep an eye on your blood pressure, checking every 6-12 months. A lower dose of estrogen may keep your numbers closer to normal. • Talking: -It happens whether you’re young or old and no matter where you are. The higher your resting blood pressure, the higher the numbers go when you start speaking. And the effect lasts for a few minutes. It seems the subject and emotional content of what you’re saying matters more than the fact that you’re moving your mouth. • Antidepressants:-Medicines that target brain chemicals like dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin — including venlafaxine (Effexor), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tricyclic antidepressants, and fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) — can change not only your mood but also your blood pressure. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) might raise it if you’re also taking lithium or other drugs that affect serotonin.
• Your Doctor’s Office: -You might see a difference if you compare readings during an appointment to the numbers you get at home. Named for the traditional garb of medical professionals, the “white coat effect” is the rise in blood pressure — up to 10 points higher for systolic (the upper number) and 5 for diastolic (the lower number) — that can happen simply because of where you are. The bump is likely due to nerves or anxiety. • Decongestants: - Ingredients like pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine can narrow your blood vessels. That means the same amount of blood has to squeeze through a smaller space, like a crowd pushing through a hallway. These drugs can also make blood pressure medi-

MARRYING A THAI AND GETTING A MARRIAGE VISA Every year thousands of tourists come on holiday to Thailand and not only fall in love with the country but often with a Thai lady (or man) also. The rates of marriage between Thai nationals and foreigners is rising and it is no longer just the older foreigners who are coming here and finding love. Many younger guys (or girls) in their 20’s are meeting the partner of their dreams from a foreign land. Some even ‘meet’ before they actually arrive in Thailand through social media networks or dating sites. We will cover the legalities of meeting this way later when we discuss visas. If you are in a relationship with a
Thai national and wish to secure a visa based on your relationship, you need to understand the processes and legal requirements involved in securing a valid Thai marriage visa. This visa offers foreigners a 1 year extension of stay in the Kingdom and can be renewed on an annual basis. Applying while in Thailand If you are on a tourist visa during a stay in Thailand you will need to travel to a neighbouring country and make your application at the Thai consulate in that country. Popular countries to visit for this purpose are Laos, Malaysia and Cambodia. The same paperwork as mentioned above will be re-
quired to secure a new 90-day non-immigrant visa. Key Visa can help you to organise this paperwork and a ‘visa run’ to a neighbouring country. What documents are needed for a Thai marriage visa? You will apply for the marriage visa at a Thai Immigration office. If the wedding ceremony takes place in Thailand the following documents need to be presented: - Passports: Your passport, your wife’s passport and copies of both - ID card: The husband or wife’s ID card - Household registration document: The husband or wife’s household registration. This is known as a Tabian Baan in Thai.
- Marriage certificate: Your legally issued marriage certificate. - Proof of finances: You will need to produce your personal Thai bank book that shows funds of at least 400,000 baht in your account. This should be accompanied by a letter from your bank confirming these funds. Or legal (with a work permit) income in Thailand of 40,000 THB. Or income from overseas paid into a Thai bank account of at least 40,000 THB per month. - Place of residence: A drawn map showing the location of your current residence - Proof of residence: If the home is owned by the husband or wife, the household registration documents should be presented.
If renting then a copy of ID card and a copy of the home owners house registration documents - Photographs: 2 photos of husband and wife inside their home and 2 more of you both outside showing the address of the property. A Thai marriage visa is one of the most complex types of long term visa, along with the business visa. We strongly advise seeking professional help as the list of required documents is not conclusive and more documents can be requested at the discretion of the immigration officer. Particularly if the person marrying the Thai is not from a western country, the officials may become
suspicious that the marriage is purely to facilitate a visa and request further proof of the relationship. In all cases the immigration officer will most likely visit your home, particularly for your first application. They will want to see that you live together as a couple/family and may even visit your neighbours to ask questions about you. Key Visa provide not only a full legal marriage service but can also assist you with applying for and obtaining an extension of stay based on marriage. RELOCATING BACK TO THE UK OVERSEAS PENSION TO THAILAND Many expats come to Thailand planning to spend their twilight years sipping cocktails (or at least beers) in the sun and enjoying life with their friends and/or Thai partners.
However, there are times and circumstances when some expats decide to return ‘home’ for whatever reason. This can be due to financial constraints, when you are living on a fixed income fluctuations in the exchange rate can cause serious problems with monthly budgeting. Ill health is another concern for elderly expats who may find it difficult to get health insurance. If this is the case, you should be aware that you may not always be immediately entitled to health care in your home country upon arrival. Particularly in countries like the UK where healthcare is free, there are a number of restrictions for people who have been out of the country for longer than 6 months. If you are diagnosed with a serious illness, it is much better to
consider heading home sooner rather than later as medically assisted travel can be very expensive and run into multiple tens of thousands of pounds.
On a brighter note, some expats decide to head home due to increased employment opportunities in their motherland. Not everyone is able to easily find fruitful labour here in Thailand and even foreigners past retirement age can sometimes return home and find a new position fairly easily. If you are planning to head back to the UK from Thailand and wish to take your Thai partner with you, there are a number of regulations which need to be followed. Usually, you will need to have secured employment in the UK already or have an income of at least £18,600 per annum. If you don’t have this kind of income but you have savings of at least £62,500 this can be used instead. Most foreigners returning to the UK choose to go first and setup a

As we all know the retirement visa rules have recently changed and many embassies no longer issue proof of income letters which many retirees here used to extend their retirement visa.
Other regulations include the compulsory English test and NHS deposit which can make the settlement visa an expensive exercise but it is something you only need to do once.
In future if you wish to use the monthly income method then you will need to transfer 65,000 THB per month to your Thai account from overseas.
If you are considering applying for a UK settlement visa for your partner, don’t take any risks of being rejected. There are further complications when the British citizen has been living outside the UK and professional advice is strongly recommended. Key Visa can answer all your questions about returning to the UK with your partner, contact Darren info@keyvisathailand.com for more information.

The Thai account must be in your name, it cannot be in your wife or girlfriend’s name or a joint account. If you don’t already have a Thai bank account, please check out our post on how to open an account https:// www.keyvisathailand.com/howto-open-a-thai-bank-account/ You can either ask your pension provider to pay your pension directly into your Thai bank account, for this purpose you will need to ask the bank to provide you with a Swift or IBAN code suitable for international transfers. We suggest trialling an overseas transfer before you commit to receiving
monthly payments in this account.
We suggest this for two reasons, #1 to make sure that everything is working correctly and #2 to check on the exchange rate. Depending on the bank which your pension provider uses to transfer the money you may not get the best exchange rate possible. The alternative to this is continue to receive your pension into your local bank account in your home country and then transfer it yourself to Thailand. This should be done by electronic transfer and if you have online banking, this is normally a simple process. Depending on your bank account, you may need a card reader or phone number which can be used for verifying the international transaction. Different banks have different systems and use different exchange rates. In the UK, international transfers typically vary between £9 and £20 and there is usually a mark up on the exchange rate plus

Another way to send money from abroad to Thailand or any other country is Transferwise, this is an online borderless account which enables you to send money anywhere in the world at very low cost. You can read more about it here and register for an account transferwise.com Expats renewing their visas in the first half of 2019 may still be able to use income letters previously obtained as most letters have a six month validity. But after this, you will need to understand and adhere to the new rules on bringing your pension to Thailand every month in order to use the income method next year. If you have any concerns about retirement visas and whether you are still eligible under the new rules, don’t get stressed - contact Darren by email, info@keyvisathailand.com or call into the office, opposite Big C, South Pattaya.

BUNKER BOYS Monday, July 8th Pattana Sports and Country Club A&B 1st Jimmy Carr (15) 37 points 2nd Robby Watts (8) 37 points 3rd Stuart Brown (9) 35 points Near pins Kob Glover, Robby Watts, & Stuart Brown. Today we were allocated A & B nines at Pattana and what a difference between the two nines. The A nine was surprisingly shabby with greens lumpy, slow and unmowed. The B nine was very different with fairways in better shape and greens that were smooth, quick and true, The difference was remarkable and reflected in the scoring with those who didn’t play well on one improving markedly on the other. A case in point was today’s winner Jimmy Carr who had a poor front A nine but went crazy on the back to amass thirty-seven points and overtake second-placed Robby Watts on countback. Likewise Stuart Brown had a better back nine to take third place with thirtyfive points. Near pins went to Stuart Brown and Robby Watts with Kob Glover taking the difficult A3 island hole, the last B8 went unclaimed. Wednesday, July 10th Greenvalley. 1st Stuart Brown (9) 41points 2nd Gerry Cooney (20) 39 points
3rd Niall Glover (20) 38 points 4th Neil Harvey (9) 38 points Near pins Masao (Rocky) Ishikawa, Les Cobban, Stuart Brown, & Gavin Lang. The midweek game at Greenvalley was enough enticement to lure out a field of eighteen to play a superior course which is now close to being back to its best again. A nice sunny day with a light breeze blowing kept playing conditions comfortable. The course was quiet so no delays or holdups although the second group did complain they had to wait on every hole for a slow three-ball out first, nevertheless the round was completed in under four hours which is acceptable. Scoring today was of a very high standard with most performing well, seven players scored thirty-six or more. Winner and course member Stuart Brown applied all his local knowledge to take first place with an excellent score of forty-one, he even managed to get a wayward drive heading into the jungle to hit a rock and bounce back into the middle of the fairway. Gerry Cooney continues to play to his best and took second place with thirty-nine points, perhaps his handicap could do with a little adjustment, twenty seems a bit high for a player of his ability. Niall Glover had his best game to date
with a fine thirty-eight and take third place. Newcomer Neil Harvey took the last place on the podium also with thirty-eight beaten on countback. Near pins went to Rocky Ishikawa, Les Cobban, Stuart Brown, and almost an ace from Gavin Lang. After golf, a feast of sport continued with the State of Origin rugby league decider and The Kiwi’s v Indians in the World Cup one day cricket, too much sport is barely enough. Friday, July 12th Khao Kheow B & C 1st Gerry Cooney (19) 37 points 2nd Kob Glover (26) 37 points 3rd Stuart Brown (8) 36 points 4th Chris Delamare (1) 35 points Near pins Geoff Cox, Tony Robbins, Stuart Brown, & Gary Smith. A good field of sixteen for the last game of the week at Khao Kheow where we were allocated B & C nines. As always the course was nice and playing conditions bright and sunny with little or no wind. Despite nobody in front of them our lead group were painfully slow and took four hours twenty minutes to complete the round. When questioned about it they said they had to continually wait for caddies which is becoming more of a problem, the current crop of caddies don’t like to walk and are not shy of showing their displeasure when required to do so. Despite being patchy at times Gerry Cooney did enough to take out first place on countback from Kob Glover both on thirty-seven points. Stuart Brown took third with thirty-six and Chris Delamare rounded out the scoring with thirty-five points. Chris also had shot of the day on the ninth when his second from a bunker went straight into the hole for the only eagle of the day. That shot was replayed many times back at the bar. Near pins went to Geoff Cox, Tony Robbins, Stuart Brown, and Gary Smith. Last games today for Niall Glover back to work in Peru

and Barry Murnin on tour in Vietnam. Monday, July 15th Greenwood C & B 1st Jimmy Carr (15) 33 points 2nd Tony Robbins (23) 30 points 3rd Chris Delamare (1) 29 points Near pins Robby Watts, Tony Robbins. Greenwood is a course that most look forward to playing, always in good shape and reasonably priced as it was again today. A bright sunny day with clear blue skies and a slight breeze blowing meant conditions for golf were perfect, however, this was not reflected in the scoring which was poor at best. Once again Jimmy
trieve it, at least he did get it back. Wednesday, July 17th Eastern Star 1st Jimmy Carr (15) 33 points 2nd Robby Watts (9) 32 points 3rd Tony Robbins (20) 30 points Near Pins Robby Watts. Despite being a Buddha holiday the Eastern Star Course kept their green and caddie fees at sports day pricing, consequently, the course was quite busy for low season with at least two other major groups on the course. As there were several groups waiting on the first tee who chose to play the back nine first and got away on time, however by the second nine we ran up against a
Carr who seems to improve with age was the winner again today with a modest score of thirtythree. Tony Robbins came second with thirty and Chris Delamare took third with twenty-nine. Near pins went to Chris Delamare and Tony Robbins with two unclaimed, a measure of how poorly most played. A timely reminder to all golfers to check their equipment after every round, today Robby Watts found to his dismay that his rangefinder was missing from his bag, his caddy neglected to give it back to him after his last round which adversely affected his game today and necessitated a trip back to Khao Kheow to re-
slow six-ball and it got a bit tedious thereafter. The course was fine with the exception of the greens which had recently been sanded and many not very evenly so speed control was a major challenge as was reflected in the scores returned. It doesn’t seem
to matter lately what the winning score is, it always seems to have Jimmy Carr’s name to it as was the case again today. Robby Watts came in second one adrift and Tony Robbins rounded out the scores with a modest thirty points. Only one near pin was claimed, going to Robby Watts, a further indication of how difficult the course played with a stiff breeze blowing. Friday, July 19th Treasure Hill 1st Robby Watts (9) 37 points 2nd Geoff Cox (15) 31 points 3rd Michael Brett (15) 30 points Near pins Jimmy Carr & Michael Brett X 2. The week’s golf ended with a game at the difficult Treasure Hill course in hot steamy conditions. Thunder and lightning appeared on the horizon over the closing holes, however, it never came our way. This is a course that seems to have most golfers psyched out with several dogleg holes and trees in all the most inconvenient places. The only one to master the course and conditions was Robby Watts with a first-place score of thirty-seven, Robby has never shot less than thirty-six on this course so clearly, it presents no mental issues for him. Second place went to Geoff Cox with thirty-one and third place went to Michael Brett with thirty points. Near pins went to Jimmy Carr and two to Michael Brett. Having been on fire for weeks Jimmy failed miserably today with his lowest score of the year, also losing all three sixes which as everyone knows is a disaster for Jimmy.

ISSUE 616 AUGUST 2019
LINKS GOLF SOCIETY Phil Davies Continues a Winning Streak On Wednesday 17 th July at Treasure Hill, after teaming with Paul Smith to win the PSC Members Tournament on Monday at Laem Chabang with a massive team score of 49 points and an individual score of 42 points, Phil Davies kept his hot form going to take out today’s “A” flight and the Green Jacket, for which was he was the model for the tailor. In second place was John Pierrel, who is also playing good golf, scoring 37 points to win the countback over Dave Buchanan who once again had 72 off the stick. “B” flight saw Tip Briney, still showing very good form, grab first spot with 37 points. Barry Elphick came to join us again and had a good day out by clocking up 36 points for second place, while Geoff Wallace, on his return, took third with 33 points. Treasure Hill is not known for very
high stableford scores but today, of twenty eight players, six played to handicap or better and overall, sixteen had thirty points or better. Most likely the reasons are the fact the course is in very good condition, although the greens are a little slower than normal and a new idea, I think, is that Treasure Hill moves the white and yellow tees together when a public holiday therefore, seemingly, making for a shorter course. But no fear, Iain had the worst score on a nine and got to wear the “silly hat”. So ends another day playing golf in the Land of Smiles, it’s hard, but has to be done. BILLABONG WEDNESDAY, JULY 17 TH , GREEN VALLEY, STABLEFORD Forgive me for asking but I thought this time of year was supposed to be the rainy season, if so … what happened to it? The rice crops and golf courses need some rain very badly and I thought I saw the General Manager doing a rain dance this morning. Most of our ladies today were honouring the first day
of the Buddhist lent but the only lady playing today, Miss Porn, made a statement by having two 2s, so just the men’s competition to calculate. Two weeks ago we had a lady having the day of her life with 46 points and today we had Pete Thomas (19) with a big smile on his face, and why not, having had a truly magnificent round of golf with 24 points on the way out and 22 on the way back for a grand total of 46 points
with 11 pars and he chose not to score a point on one hole. Mick Beresford (12) also had an excellent round with 8 pars but it is difficult to compete with a 46 point total. Selwyn Wegner (14) had 21 points on the trip home for a total of 39 points winning on a countback for 3rd place. 2s were in abundance today with a total of six going to Paul Hack, Mick Beresford, Wayne Cotterell, Bill Peach and going to Miss Porn.

SIAM COUNTRY RESORT Stuart Banks on fire at Green Valley On Tuesday 2nd July we went to Plutaluang, where we North and West course played.. The course was in very good condition with nice fairways and good greens. We had nice overcast weather with sometimes a little bit sun. The breeze was cool and it was not to hot today. We had quite good scores today. The battle was between Willem Lasonder and Patrick Devereux. Willem was the lucky one and won with 39 stable ford points. Patrick was second with 38 stable ford points and Jonathan third with 365 stable ford points. The nears to the pin were for Willem Lasonder, Jonathan Pratt
(2x) and Stan Rees. On Thursday 4th July was our venue Green Valley. It was a long ago that we played here with our group and we were curious how the course would be. The course was in good shape with again nice fairways and good greens. We had again overcast weather and sometimes it looked if we would have rain, but it stayed dry. The breeze was cool and it was pleasant to play. After a slow start played Stuart Banks a very steady game. He won clear with 41 stable ford points. Second was Jonathan Pratt with 38 stable ford points and third David Lusha with 37 stable ford points. The nears to the pin were Jonathan Pratt and Dave Smith.

dition now I think that maybe it’s time to give this course a rest. I am advised that A nine has been closed for near on 4 years, they need this to be back in play sooner rather than later. On a few occasions putting was like putting on corrugated iron. We need to revisit next month’s schedule and maybe look for an alternative. Apart from that it is also lacking some water to freshen up the fairways, very dry and I guess some advantage there is a bit of run! Anyway we continued on, play-
Had to talk the bloke into playing and he comes up with his best, Ronnie Gillett you champion! Still heading out with small groups, today we only needed the one bus to transport us out to Crystal Bay. This is a course that we play every month but looking at the con-
ing courses B & C from the Yellow Tees. The weather was on our side, although very warm cloud cover and a gentle breeze made things somewhat comfortable! We would play the One Flight and all novelties were up for grabs! Well “Big Ron Gillett” and I have
to say (I scored his card) grabbed the game by the throat and with a back nine of 25 pts made it hard for all comers. 44 points made sure of that! Second past the post was Takeshi Hakozaki 2 points in arrears of the winner. Then there was a procession of golfers that you could have thrown a net over given there was only a single shot separating each golfer. WINNERS from CRYSTAL BAY GC. 1st Ron Gillett (33) 44 pts. 2nd Takeshi Hakozaki (14) 42 pts. 3rd Kevin Smith (32) 39 pts. 4th Andrew Allen (34) 38 pts. NEAR THE PIN. B4. Snowy on the Buses. B6. Shane Young. C4. Andrew Allen. C7. Ron Gillett. LONG FIRST PUTT. B9. Shane Young. C9. Ron Gillett. In the photo we todays winner Ron Gillett. Back at Bogey’s we welcomed back Ron Gillett and a new comer Shiro Yazawa. We had no farewells. D-For was still recovering but will be back next month full of beans! For serious golfing with a dash of fun, the Growling Swan welcomes golfers of all persuasions, be it young or old, male or female. We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. PATTAYA MARATHON 2019 that, while your intrepid reporter was waiting for his girlfriend to run the race, he was able to take part in the coffee and croissant challenge before congratulating her at the finish line. Winners and runner ups got a coveted trophy while all finishers got a treasured medal. Another great Pattaya event which ended with smiling faces all round. Results: Chepkok Kibiwott from Kenya crossed the finish line first in the men ‘s 42.195 k category. The winner in the women’s category was Marta Tinsae Birehan from Ethiopia. In the 21.100k quarter marathon run, David Kibet from Kenya came first in the men’s category and Etaferahu Dubale Betrie clinched victory in the women’s category. In the 10.550k quarter-marathon run, Nathawut Ounnoum and Sunisa Preechaprong of Thailand were the winners in the men’s and women’s categories. In the 3k wheelchair race, Nathakan Chaotrakan and Ornanong Praikaew, both of Thailand, were the winners in the men’s and women’s categories.
This years Pattaya Marathon event, witnessed by myself, Barry Upton, and organised by Thailand Tri-League, was an astounding success with over 12,000 runners taking part in the four catagories: the full marathon, half marathon, 10k and 3.5k lengths. The most popular catagory was the 10k run which was lead by Thai princess H.M. Bajrakitiyabha together with her beautiful dog. Over 6,000 participants joined her running down Beach Road from the start/ finish at Central Festival, going down Walking Street to Bali Hai and then up the mountain of Pratamnak for the most gruelling stretch. The races took place very early in the morning of Sunday July 21st so as to enjoy cooler temperatures and keep road closures to a minimum in the daytime. The organisation was faultless even to the point of the Central Festival Starbucks being open so

10 ESSENTIAL MUSIC PRODUCTION TIPS
I have been a studio music producer for the best part of my life and, although I realise most of you out there do not have a studio or are interested in making original productions, my experience tells me that every music lover is fascinated by what happens in the
creation of a new, possibly hit, track. Completing a piece of music is often the hardest task to achieve in music production. When do you know you are finished? Is your song perfect? Following these 10 tips might achieve some closure on the music-making for a novice and show the end listener some problems us producers have to go through. 1. Accept the obvious Right from the start, you have to understand that you will never finish a piece of music. Okay, that sounds melodramatic at best, pessimistic at worst. But what I mean is, no matter how perfect your production, how superb your song, if you are anything like me, you will always notice imperfections and find ways to improve it. This is especially the case when you listen back to something years after making it. Production techniques move on, as does the technology behind it, the instruments, the beats… everything can be updated and improved. So the best way to start out in production is to realise that a track will never be finished and can always be updated. It’s a snapshot. A moment in time. Accept it as it is and move on to create the next project. 2. Flaunt the imperfection In this world of perfection, where every track, whatever the genre, has a similar top-notch sheen, you could do worse than look towards the Japanese aesthetic of wabisabi and the leanings of several artists who promote the idea of
leaving obvious imperfections in a work of art. So, as in Tip 1, accept that you’ll never be finished, but take it one step further and promote that imperfection. If someone calls you out on them, look towards the horizon and whisper “wabi-sabi” while nodding your head philosophically. “I meant to do it,” you are projecting. Of course you did! 3. Know the cliff edge In many artforms, ‘overcooking’ is a terrible menace. Whether you are painting, producing music, writing articles on finishing pieces of music, there will always come a time when you approach the cliff edge of direness. You spend so much time tweaking, twisting, and
in your head. The minus side is that loads of ideas are swirling around in your head. Try this - go back to all of those songs on your hard drive and start deleting them. You’ll be amazed that removing options for your timewasting actually makes you focus on the brilliant song you are working on in the here and now. And suddenly, you may even find it’s done.
basically messing about trying to make whatever you are doing better, that you end up destroying it, ruining the very idea you had in the first place and ending up with a great big pile of sonic goo, the only destination of which should be towards the trash bin. So recognise that cliff edge and see that point of no return. 4. It’s freezing Simple one, this. Back in the days when computers were a bit rubbish, we would say: “Freeze your MIDI tracks to audio”; that is to
road that is the highway to song conclusion. 5. Set a deadline Another simple one. You’d be amazed at how setting a self-imposed deadline on anything makes you actually do it. Setting yourself up with deadlines can really help you actually get stuff done, including your music making, so do it! 6. Arrange closure I always seem to have songs on my hard drive waiting to be finished. Most Digital Audio Workstations or Audio Programs now come with superb arrangement features that will turn ideas into songs in no time, so arrange, arrange and arrange again – those ideas will suddenly become dollars/bahts/ pounds of songs. 7. Get physical Are you old enough to remember vinyl records, cassettes or CDs? These were actual things that you could hold that, somehow or other, actually held music on them. You’d
say - turn your entire music project into stems of audio to take the strain away from your processor because it wouldn’t have to run so many virtual instruments. With computers being a bit better these days, it’s not so crucial in the advice stakes – apart from the fact that this can actually help you approach the finishing line. With your tracks rendered as audio files, there’s less you can do to them, so there’s less ‘messing about’ and you’re forced further along the
put them into some piece of electronics or other and music would actually play. But the point is, actually burning, ripping, or ‘recording’ your music onto a physical medium meant it was a finished product. Do this now, rather than having an endlessly streamable, digital file that can be constantly tweaked up in some cloud somewhere, and you’ll have what is, psychologically anyway, a finished track, simply because it’s on something that

10. Just stop Break all the above down into a rigid routine and you have the following - select all, copy, repeat, paste, delete some bits, bounce, burn, listen. Take my advice to all music producers - just ‘stop, look and listen’. Do this and your album will be finished in no time. Now, I need to read this back, digest and get to business finishing my own new album…coming soon.
isn’t your computer. I tend to shoot a video and upload to YouTube - It really works. 8. Play it to someone One of the hardest things to do when it comes to music production is actually playing what you’ve done to someone else. Unless you have the confidence of someone like myself who has had many international chart hits and releases, playing your personal ideas out loud can be traumatic. But if you do it, and someone actually likes it – and by that, I mean they’re not saying in a patronising way, in that kind of “don’t bother me with this crap ever again” kind of way – then your song has been judged positively by another human being, so could be said as being ‘finished’. 9. Focus, focus Creative types – and you are one of those, because you make music – often flounder around on several projects, trying to get loads of different things done, all at the same time. The plus side is that loads of ideas are swirling around
