324 million USD spent on staff repayment by Air India Air India is said to have spent about Rs 18.03 billion on pending staff salar ies this year. Media reports say that the company received a total of Rs 60 billion in 2012-13 of which the air line spent Rs 18.03 billion on pending staff salar ies, paid off Rs 1,253 crore as jet fuel dues to oil marketing companies and Rs 11 billion as loan and interest payments for aircraft acquired. Airport operators were paid Rs 9.76 billion, service tax department Rs 5.10 billion, Rs 2.86 billion on aircraft spares and Rs 720 million was paid to IATA travel agents due to flight cancellations dur ing the pilots' strike and on other heads.

n the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya (a festival), Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar showcased a limited edition gold coin bearing his face. One lakh of these Sachin

Tandulkar gold coins were launched

by Valuemart Gold and Jewels which weigh about 10 grams each. Each coin costs Rs. 34,000 (600 USD) and is made out of 24 karat gold. The

coin is available online through valuemartgold.com and also at leading jewellery stores across the country.

Valuemart signed a deal with the cricket star in February this year and has ap-

pointed him as the brand ambassador for the next three years.

"Gold is popular among sportsmen also. On a lighter note you could go

and ask the West Indian team. It is something which everyone looks forward to. The first thing you want to have is a gold chain with a nice pendant around it, " said Sachin at the launch.
