Father’s Day around the world Father’s Day is celebrated in Australia on the first Sunday of September. This year, Father’s Day will fall on September 4th. Although Father’s Day is celebrated in many countries, the dates and the origin of this celebration vary across cultures. Early history suggests Father’s Day has its origin in Catholicism, which explains why some countries with a large Catholic population, such as Italy, Spain and Portugal, celebrate the date on 19 March, the day of St Joseph, the father of Jesus. Nevertheless, other predominantly Catholic countries celebrate it on a different date. In Ireland it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In Brazil it is celebrated on the second Sunday of August. The Brazilian date was chosen to honour St Joachim, the father of Mary and patron of fathers and grandfathers. In other countries Father’s Day is linked with local history and traditions. In Thailand, the birthday of the King is Father’s Day. December 5 is the birthday of the current king, Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Unlike other countries, in Thailand it is a public holiday. In Germany, Father’s day is linked with Ascension Day, which originally commemorates the Ascension of
Jesus into Heaven. It is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day of Easter and it is a public holiday. A common date for many countries is the third Sunday of June. This date is related to a pagan tradition of worshiping the Sun as the father of the Universe. Some claim that the June tradition is linked with the solstice. This date is observed in United Kingdom, Ireland, USA, Canada, Argentina, France, Greece, Mexico, Japan, South Africa, Singapore and Venezuela. In some countries, such as India and Pakistan, Father’s Day is a relatively new concept, possibly influenced by Western traditions. The idea of a special day to honour fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States in 1910 by a woman who was inspired by the recent advent of American Mother's day celebrations. Australia and New Zealand share the Father’s Day date on the first Sunday of September each year.
Whenever you celebrate… Happy Father’s Day to All!

Making Dad a present can be a fun activity. Here are two great ideas and instructions from Biome. Biome’s super moisturising Coconut Shave Cream nourishes and protects the skin, while helping dad achieve a good, close shave. Unlike conventional shaving cream, there’s no toxic foaming agents or hormone disruptors, just simple, natural ingredients. Tips for a Good Shave 1. Use a good quality reusable safety razor 2. Shave towards the end of your shower so that your skin and hairs are warm and soft 3. Rinse your razor often while shaving Ingredients 3/4 cup Dr. Bronner’s liquid castile soap (unscented) 1/4 cup coconut oil 1 tablespoon palm free glycerine 1 tablespoon castor oil 1 tablespoon boiled water, keep hot 2 teaspoon citric acid 1 teaspoon cornstarch 25 drops lavender essential oil, or other/s of your choice Method In a medium glass jar or jug, whisk together the coconut oil, the liquid castile soap, castor oil, glycerine and hot water until well combined. Add the citric acid, cornstarch and essential oil and whisk again until you have a beautiful, rich, creamy consistency. Slowly pour into a 250ml reusable disc-cap bottle.
How To Use This recipe makes enough to fill 1 x 250ml disccap bottle. You could also put it into a 250ml pump bottle, but we found that a disc-cap bottle is easier to use. Shake well before each use. Pump or pour a small amount of the mixture into your hands and smooth over areas intended for shaving. Shave as you would normally. Note: this homemade shaving cream won’t lather that much, but will provide a great lubrication for a close shave. This shave cream works really well for both men and women. You could also use this as a nourishing face and body wash. Keep out of direct sunlight and use within 2 months.
It’s really easy to make this DIY Hair Wax and Conditioning Balm at home. You can find all of the ingredients at Biome’s Naked Beauty Bar in our four Brisbane stores and online Ingredients 1 tablespoon beeswax (or 1/2 tablespoon candelilla wax for a vegan version) 2 tablespoon shea butter 1 teaspoon cocoa butter 1 tablespoon coconut oil 1 tablespoon castor oil 10 drops rosemary essential oil 10 drops lavender essential oil Method Place all the ingredients except the essential oils into a glass jar. Place the jar into a saucepan with approximately 5 cm of water in it. Turn to medium heat and stir the mixture in the jar until it has all melted. Remove from heat. Add the essential oils to the mixture and stir. Carefully pour into a 60ml metal container and let cool completely. How to Use To use as a styling hair wax: using your fingers as a comb, apply a small amount to areas to style to your own liking. To use as a conditioning balm: using your fingers apply a tiny amount to the mid to ends of your hair and comb through. Style as normal. Great for split ends.

Dessert Ideas PASSIONFRUIT PUDDING (Gluten Free) By Recipeezi Serves 4 3 eggs, separated ½ cup caster sugar 270 ml coconut cream 2 tablespoons gluten free self-raising flour ½ cup passionfruit pulp Topping to serve: Pure icing sugar Toasted desiccated coconut Gluten free vanilla ice cream (optional) Preheat oven to 180C. Beat sugar and egg yolks until creamy and light in colour. Continue beating
while you add coconut cream and then flour. Stir through the passionfruit pulp. In a separate bowl beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Fold egg whites into the passionfruit mixture (first fold in ¼ of the egg whites, and then fold in the remaining). Do not beat it as it will lose its air and lightness. Don’t worry if the mixture looks a bit curdled. Pour into 4 greased 1 cup capacity ramekins, and stand in a baking dish. Half fill the baking dish with boiling water, so the water comes half way up the sides of the ramekins. Bake for 35-40 mins, until firm to touch. Tip: If you wish to make one big pudding, cook for 5-10 minutes longer. Dust with icing sugar and sprinkle with toasted coconut. Serve warm.
