pring is always a wonderful time of year for me because it represents new beginnings and fresh starts. It's also when I get to release our first issue of the new year. I know I say this all the time, but I get giddy like a kid in the candy store everytime a new issue is released. It's exciting and scary all at the same time -- a huge bundle of emotions -- nut it's all worth it in the end. I'm honored to be able to do the work I do, and to inspire and help inf luence the decisions you make for your big day. I'm honored to have you as a reader. The Spring 2018 issue will take you from the streets of New York City to the blue waters and skies of Santorini, Greece. I had the pleasure of working with my brilliant friends Elizabeth Messina and Joy Proctor on the cover story (page 44) in Johannesburg, South Africa. I chose South Africa as the location because I feel it is so important to highlight the beauty of the continent. There is so much more to Africa than the media would like you to see, so as a Publisher it's my duty to change that perception. The cover represents unadulterated Black Beauty...Barely there makeup paired with unique braided hairstlyes are not the norm for bridal looks, but represent a sense of individualism and confidence that screams through the pages. But why opt for just one cover? We had such a hard time deciding on which one we loved most so we released two! And in each issue, you'll have bonus pages of some of my favorite photos from the editorial. Since our last issue, the MunaLuchi team has been busy expanding the brand into global markets. We visited Johannesburg, South Africa, where our cover story was photographed, Bahamas and London. It's enourmously heartening to see the support from vendors and couples in all the cities and countries we visit, and lets us know that MunaLuchi is more than just a magazine... it's a movement.

YOUR SONG, “LOVE LIKE OURS” IS A CELEBRATION OF LOVE, EMBODYING THE PRIDE AND JOY OF BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SONG?

The song is kind of a summation of the vibe of the new record. Celebrating your love on your terms. Not held to anyone else’s expectations or life plans. IS LOVE A REOCCURRING THEME AND INSPIRATION WITHIN YOUR MUSIC?

Nerd - Nerd, Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life, Ella Fitzgerald- At the Opera House Live, Reggae Gold - 1996, Marvin Gaye - I Want You; Rarities and Oddities. HOW HAS THE PLACE OF YOUR UPBRINGING SHAPED WHO YOU ARE?

Growing up in London shapes the way I hear music in general, I’m open to a lot more genres than are socially assumed as a black woman. DO YOU EVER EXPERIENCE WRITER’S BLOCK? IF SO, HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED?

Writer’s block is a rolling train, I get off and go live for a while. WHAT IS THE GREATEST REWARD YOU RECEIVE FROM YOUR MUSIC?

One of the rewards I receive from being a musician is being able to give back what God and the world has ultimately given me. AND LASTLY, BEING A WEDDING MAGAZINE, WE MUST ASK, WHILE GROWING UP DID YOU OFTEN ENVISION YOUR OWN WEDDING? HOW DID YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?

I never really imagined the wedding I’d like until a few years ago. I was a late bloomer there. But it will be a small ceremony with my core family and friends.

after a while just for the money. It was quite uncomfortable to leave in that way but I surmised that I would only have one chance to live the life I loved and so I did. IF YOU HAD TO SELECT AN ALTERNATIVE ROAD IN LIFE, WHAT CAREER PATH ASIDE FROM MUSIC DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FOLLOWING?

I don’t. I wouldn’t. I’m glad about the life I have . MILLIONS OF PEOPLE FIND INSPIRATION IN YOUR MUSIC.

My family were my biggest inf luences. They have given me perspective and things to write about.

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING LIKE? Our wedding was very traditional. We had classic invitations in black and white. Our wedding was in the evening and the attire was formal. Inside the venue was lit by candles and decorated in black, white and red. The singer, Tank, sang the bride down the aisle with a live band. AS YOU CELEBRATE YOUR ANNIVERSARY, WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Thaddeus: My wife was as happy as I have ever seen her. She looked beautiful walking down the aisle. I was nervous leading up to that day, but seeing her walking down the aisle removed all the nervousness and calmed me down because I knew I made the right decision and she was the one I couldn’t live without. Shekinah: When the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. I saw Thad and our families and it just felt right. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AS A COUPLE?

ANNIVERSARIES

HOW DO YOU KEEP THE SPARK IN

"We keep the spark in our marriage by being best friends and continuing to focus on each other. YOUR MARRIAGE?

TELL US ABOUT THE SHOOT. WHAT INSPIRED IT? Around the time of the wedding Shekinah saw a photoshoot by Ainsley & Sebastian and instantly fell in love with their irreverent and fun concept, it was her f irst inspiration. She wanted to build on the idea of Las Vegas fun, mix it with a little bit of the fashion forward L.A. vibe and plant it in their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Best part, she wanted the whole thing to be a complete surprise for Thaddeus. Since they travel so much, it was important to them to be surrounded by family at their anniversary. Shekinah and Thaddeus love to go “ALL OUT on their parties so they called Bella Baxter Events to design and produce a seriously fun guest experience for the party. Elvis off iciated and then joined the crowd for cocktails and gambling! Guests were treated to custom Forever Young temporary tattoos, photos by the photo trailer Amurica, pop rock inspired signature cocktails, and an Elvis inspired menu. The bride also wanted to have a cutting edge photo session and really show her fashion forward side. The Bride owns her own salon and had her expert stylists do her hair and makeup. Custom outf its were created for both the Bride and Groom. WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE FOR NEWLYWEDS? "Communicate each day. Help each other become better individuals because growth is key to marital success."

HOW THEY MET "Alex and I met during our f irst year of law school. He was on the third f loor of the law library studying for our Civil Procedure f inal exam. I was looking for a table to study when I saw him. I was behind him and I found myself staring at him for at least f ive minutes. However, the initial introduction was completely innocent. I said hello and asked him if he was a f irst year law student (I knew the answer because of the books he had on the table). He conf irmed that he was and I suggested that we study together. Let’s just say we saw each other around and in between classes, but it wasn’t until our second year things changed a bit. We were in the same family law course and Alex asked me several times to join him for dinner. After a few rounds of “let me play hard to get” he took me to dinner near campus. We had such a great time and I laughed harder than I ever had before in my life (seriously). He continued to pursue me and nearly seven years later we are headed to the altar. This is the true law & love story and I am super excited to marry my best friend!"

THE PROPOSAL: " In July 2016, Alex and I went on our annual vacation trip. We decided New York City would be a fun place to travel together

during the 4th of July because of the f ireworks and events. We stayed at the Lotte New York Palace hotel. Our trip consisted of the “normal” NYC tourist spots. We went to the Statue of Liberty, 911 Museum, etc., and visited all the best restaurants New York City has to offer. The 4th of July was our very last full day in New York. We went to this rooftop restaurant to see the f ireworks with friends. The f ireworks show was delayed due to rain. At this point, I had no idea that our friends were there to capture the proposal. However, the rain DID NOT STOP. Alex’s original plan to propose on the rooftop with the f ireworks over the Hudson could not happen! This set back did not stop him from going for what he wanted. We headed back to our hotel. Alex ordered room service while I was in my PJs and bonnet (yes that’s right my bonnet and I have the video to prove it) enjoying my dinner. During our meal, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. The moment was perfect and authentic. I will treasure this moment forever!"

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION: " Theme: Library and Romance; Description:

We met in the law library so I wanted to include some great images from the historic library in the city we met (I was born and raised). Also, I’ve always loved romantic bar/ lounge scenes so I wanted to do a Library Love & Romance theme by incorporating both a bar and library." OUR FIRST DATE:

"Alex took me to dinner and a movie. We went to Noodles and Company for food. We were poor law students and Alex wanted me to try their food. We went to see “Jumping the Broom.”"

FAVORITE THING TO DO AS A COUPLE:

"We LOVE to travel. We are going to Europe for 24 days for our honeymoon. I would say a close second would be riding bikes during the warm months in Indiana." WEDDING PLANNING:

"Wedding planning has been great. I love planning events and I would say I am an unoff icial event planner. I’ve enjoyed the process of planning all the special details for our Big Day. My greatest pleasure has been watching my closest friends continue to bond and become closer through this process as well. It is so fun to watch my vision continue to evolve." WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST:

"My answer is probably one you’ve heard before, but I am looking forward to marrying the man of my dreams. I am sure that answer is obvious so I will give another. We’ve placed a large emphasis on music. We will have a DJ, a band, and a harpist/percussionist. I am looking forward to having a blast! I hope the night ends with crowd surf ing!" - Teresha

THE FIRST ENCOUNTER:

Edkeshia and Rino initially met through a mutual friend in 2003 while on Spring Break, but the sparks didn't f ly immediately. In the span of the next six years, they would encounter one another a couple more times, in which neither was ready for a relationship. It wasn't until a random encounter in May of 2009, when Edkeshia and Rino realized that there was a reason they kept bumping into one another - they were meant to be. From that moment on, they kept in touch and later solidif ied their relationship. THE PROPOSAL: " August 19th 2017, I was at Rino’s Residence getting dressed to host our

from behind then asked if I was ready to be his wife? At that point I looked in front of me, wow, the ring box was there! I was so shocked I could not stop smiling. Rino placed the ring on my f inger and we held each other for a minute with so much emotion. Now we are here planning for our big day, 12/22/18 #thekingswinterland2018" THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION: " Our Engagement Session consisted of two days of shooting.

The session was one of a kind. I knew I had to execute my theme “Elegant Vintage Winter Wonderland Chic,” so I did what it took of me to do just that. Rino, on the other hand was very nervous because he had no clue what the sessions entailed. On days one and two of the shoot the snow poured, even more on the second day, I was beyond elated for the

shoot to begin. Rino was very cold and could not believe that I wanted us to take photos in the cold two days back to back. I was just so excited the cold did not bother me at all. Rino was also excited, just not about the cold, however he cooperated just for me which made the job for our photographer very easy in creating some of the most creative shots." PHOTOGRAPHER

OUR FIRST DATE:

"Our f irst date was pretty simple, Rino picked me up from my parents’ home and we drove around Nassau conversing and enjoying each other’s company. THE PROPOSAL: "Fast forward to the proposal, I coordinated a dinner

party with our friends and family for his birthday. So as people are arriving we're mingling and having a good time. One of my blogger BFFs had always raved about this nail line that she promotes. She'd been telling me that she would give me a set the next time she sees me, so she brought them along to dinner. On the other hand I'm a f lorist, so it's no surprise that my nails weren't manicured to perfection. So she's like "oh I have the new nail art kit, let me do your nails before we forget again." Mind you, the nail kit literally takes like 2 minutes, and my friend is really into them, so the idea wasn't alarming at all! We're girls; we do random things all the time! So we're all catching up, dinner is over and it's almost dessert time. He excuses himself and heads for a restroom break. He comes back holding a cake and a dozen roses with sparklers on the cake. So here I am so confused and asking a bunch of questions; "Why is he holding the cake? That's not even the cake I ordered. Did the server give him the wrong cake? The server is supposed to bring the cake out! Why is HE carrying it? And it's the wrong cake!" I was completely confused. Meanwhile,

my friends and family are standing around the table with their phone f lashing, no one is saying anything, and they were just smirking giving me that playful "I don't know" look and singing "happy birthday" which really had me confused. I'm a planner so I don't like when I plan gatherings and they're not going as planned. I was still trying to f igure out why he was carrying the wrong cake! And then he gets on one knee, and the cake reads "Will You Marry Me?" with a ring in his hand. I was shocked! To the MAX! I could not believe it! I. WAS. IN.TOTAL. DISBELIEF! It was a true surprise as his birthday dinner turned into our engagement night. And just in case you were wondering. We did eventually f ind and eat the birthday cake.

WHAT DID YOU DO ON YOUR FIRST DATE?

HOW HAS WEDDING PLANNING BEEN SO FAR?

Our f irst date was fun - we went to an Atlanta Hawks basketball game and went to a restaurant after the game. The game helped us loosen up a lot, so at dinner, conversation f lowed so easily.

Wedding planning is going quite smoothly actually. Being a wedding planner, it feels surreal to be planning my own wedding. Sometimes I tend to bounce back and forth between being the bride and being the planner, and since I'm both, I have to f ind a balance without being so hard on myself and overanalyzing the process. However Abidemi's involvement in the process has taken the edge off and gives me a great sense of comfort and support.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO AS A COUPLE?

"EAT. Some people eat to live, we live to eat! The diverse cultures that make up Atlanta offer countless restaurant options with different themes and atmospheres. We like to immerse ourselves in the dining experience and bond over thoughtful conversation and laughter. We both come from families that center their gatherings around good food and fellowship so it's an emotional thing for us as well."

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST?

We're looking forward to the moment we are presented as man and wife. I think our f irst look will be awesome, so we're quite excited for that moment as well. We just can't wait to celebrate with our friends and family. It's going to be a great day!

N N E N A + TAY L O R North Bethesda, Maryland BRIDE-TO-BE: Nnena Akpaete GROOM-TO-BE: Taylor Culliver OCCUPATIONS: MBA Student & Community Strategist WEDDING DATE: September 29, 2018 WEDDING LOCATION: Martin’s West, Baltimore, MD THE FIRST ENCOUNTER: Nnena and Taylor met during college at the University of Pennsylvania. She was a senior in a mostly freshmand dorm, and he was a freshman. It was at the beginning of year hall-meeting that they f irst laid eyes on one another, and slowly a relationship began to build. THE PROPOSAL: "After I f inished my f irst year at business school at UVA, Taylor came down to Charlottesville for a few days. We had planned to do a wine tour the upcoming Wednesday to visit some new wineries and some of our favorites. The night before the wine tour, my friend Carissa texted me and innocently asked what I was doing the next day. After I told Carissa that Taylor and I were going on a wine tour, Carissa asked me to look cute and take photos for her new apartment. As Carissa had just moved in, I didn’t feel as though this request was strange, however, upon ref lecting more that night I wondered, “what if Taylor is going to propose?” I continued to text Carissa to ask what I should wear. The two of us settled on an outf it and I went to bed. The next day was warm and beautiful. Taylor and I packed a backpack with blankets and water and headed to the f irst winery, and then the second. We did a few tastings, drank some wine, and continued our tour. The third stop was my favorite winery in Charlottesville and I assumed that if Taylor were going to propose, he would probably do it there. But he didn't. We again did a tasting and drank some wine. On our way to the fourth and f inal winery, I was already mentally drafting the text message I was going to send to Carissa about not getting people’s hopes up. As we walked into Taylor’s favorite winery, King Family Vineyards, there was a food truck outside selling hot dogs. I was starving and offered to buy hot dogs while Taylor got the wine and located a spot for us to sit. When I came to the blanket, we ate the hot dogs and chatted. Taylor then told me to

D E S T I N AT I O N S

stand up so that he could take a picture of me for Carissa. After I posed for some pictures, he told me that he had a gift for me. I, not thinking that he was going to propose at this point, eagerly waited while he brought out a wooden wine bottle case. On the top were the words, “Nenna, my life, my love, my very best friend.” When I opened the case, I saw “Will you marry me?” engraved inside the lid, with a wine bottle nestled in the box. I looked for the engagement ring, thinking it was hidden somewhere under the wine bottle. Instead of f inding the ring, Taylor took the box and set it aside. He took both of my hands in his and showered me with words of love and adoration before pulling out the ring and getting down on one knee. I of course said yes!in the gardens of the Biltmore Estate right after." WHAT DID YOU DO ON YOUR FIRST DATE? "The two of us went to the Olive Garden in Center City Philadelphia. Growing up, Taylor’s exposure to restaurants was mostly limited to chain restaurants and I had rarely been to restaurants before going to college. One day we were talking about Olive Garden while hanging out in my dorm and Taylor suggested we go have dinner. When we got there I found out that Taylor doesn’t eat vegetables (and I gladly ate the whole salad by myself). Since I ate most of the salad, Taylor ate most of the breadsticks, which I wasn’t too thrilled about. He ordered the spaghetti (Which I would later realize was his typical order at Italian restaurants) and I ordered a seafood dish that I can’t remember. Afterwards we walked around the city for a while, continuing to talk and learn more about each other." FAVORITE THING(S) TO DO AS A COUPLE? "One of our favorite things to do as a couple is explore new wineries/vineyards and taste tons of wines. I am immensely happy that Taylor’s palate is f inally ref ined and he can eloquently describe the types of wines he likes (Bold, peppery reds and stainless steel aged whites, etc.). We also love cooking together. It’s been interesting to f ind recipes that don’t have too many of the vegetables that Taylor doesn’t like. Our favorite dish to make together is stuffed pasta shells. And we love to go to the beach. We go on an annual beach trip every year at the end of the summer to relax and refresh together before closing out the year." LOOKING FORWARD TO? Taylor: "I’m most excited about my family and friends all being in one place on the same day to join in our celebration. It’s a very rare experience that the people across every different spectrum of your life are brought together all at once, so it should be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to SPRING.2018

dancing the night away and taking a huge sigh of relief when it’s all over." Nnena: "I’m most looking forward to our f irst dance together. We are planning on dancing to both a slow song (we haven’t decided which one yet), and one of our favorite songs as a couple. I’m going to use my choreography skills from college to design a dance that brings our guests to tears and perfectly showcases our love."

HOW HAS WEDDING PLANNING BEEN SO FAR? "Wedding planning has been a lot of work for various reasons. I’m currently in business school at UVA and Taylor is working in New York City. Since neither of us are currently living in the state that we’re getting married a lot of work has to be done over email. Whenever we are in the Maryland area we spend most of our time in the car driving between different vendor meetings. The great thing about wedding planning is that Taylor used to plan events for his old job at Forbes and I am the Social Chair for my business school so we both have experience planning large scale events. We are also blessed to have a great support system between family on both sides, and friends who have recently been married or are currently planning their own weddings. My favorite part of wedding planning has been designing our invitations so that they’re 100% personalized. They have the elegance and sophistication that I like, and the simplicity that Taylor likes which is perfect." - Nnena

WEDDING DATE:

June 1, 2018

HOW THEY MET:

For Annick & Pierre, their coming together was nothing short of divine intervention, in their words, “we felt like God brought us to this point.” Their love story f irst began when Pierre was checking his hi5 social media account and noticed on the “add friends” list a “beautiful young lady I had never seen before.” In that moment it was as if a higher power began guiding him, and he immediately knew that whoever this person was he had to get to know more about them. Annick & Pierre knew they were “the one” for each other considering their close friendship with each other and family members; all of the pieces fell into place - in their words, “it just felt right.” Their modern chic engagement session was a ref lection of their love, capturing the fun, elegant couple they are while showcasing their favorite city of Toronto as the backdrop.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION: " It was a modern chic take on our love.

We wanted to capture the fun, love, and elegance of who we are. With a backdrop of our favourite city Toronto it was so magical." - Annick

The inspiration... "When Wedding Planning and Design team ILE Events thought of this shoot they wanted to ensure a level of authenticity of the Ghanaian culture with a modern twist. The African styled shoot is inspired by the Ashanti Tribe and we used elements to tell the story of their environments (tropical f lowers & greenery), cultures (use of round pedestals to represent the Royal & Divine Throne AshantiTwi: Sika 'dwa), and traditional wedding fashions. Bright colors and vibrant lights created the vibe of joy through the photos. The ceremonial hand fasting brought a modern use for the Kente cloth and binding the couple together." -Alicia of ILE Events

for us to energize and mobilize businesses within our community. The inspiration behind this shoot was "black love is enterprising." Though this shoot may look like an amalgam of beautiful metallic and elegant f lorals every element is symbolic. My brooch bouquet was made of jewelry from all the women in my family whom were married before me, there is even a key to my great grandparents f irst store that reminds us to just keep building together. We chose the tones of precious metals and diamonds to symbolize the beauty that comes from the hard work of pressing, melting, welding and cutting … all tools used to make precious metals and diamonds. Much like marriage and growing businesses it doesn't start off as gorgeous as it ends. We had my original wedding dress reconstructed into a completely different piece to show that an original thing just like love can always be reworked, remodeled, and reshaped into something totally different but still equally stunning and beautiful as we grow older together. WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE FOR NEWLYWEDS? Enjoy every phase of your marriage, as each part

is very special and unique. For instance, If you don't have kids then don't rush it, enjoy “dink” (Double Income No Kids) life, sleeping in and doing brunch. Also take time and plan for the future, not only in your f inances but in the very core of your relationship.

REAL WEDDINGS

For her wedding dress, Irene knew she wanted something unique. She enlisted Esé Azénabor to design a custom dress. It was embedded with Swarovski crystals, pearls, and beautiful custom lace. The dress also included a luxurious taffeta ivory detachable train which allowed for the bride to have the option of both a princess and mermaid style. A stunning handcrafted crystal vine headpiece completed the bride’s wedding day look. Irene and Steve’s elegant, modern romance themed wedding

incorporated

Nigerian,

American,

and

Southern cultures. They hired both an American and a Nigerian DJ to ensure guests were always on their feet and having a good time. During the second half of the wedding, the bridal party changed into traditional Nigerian outf its and performed cultural dances in honor of the newly married couple. Family members of the bride and groom also dressed in Aso Ebi and wore the same color fabrics to represent the blending of the two families. BEST MEMORIES: “There were so many amazing memories. It’s really hard to pick which one was the best. I guess I would have to say, our ‘f irst look.’ It was so intimate. It was just Steve and I. I could remember my heart pounding as I walked down the courtyard to touch Steve’s shoulder so that he could turn around to see me. The smile on his face when he saw me for the f irst time in my wedding dress was pure bliss! I can replay the emotions in my head from that moment so vividly. I also can’t forget our f irst dance! Steve dropping to the f loor while “Can You Stand the Rain” was playing was so unexpected!” - Irene “I would have to say my best memory was Irene walking down the aisle during the ceremony. I had already seen her during our f irst look, but there was something extra special when she came down the aisle. I also enjoyed our f irst dance.” - Steve ADVICE FOR ENGAGED COUPLES: “Take the time to enroll in premarital counseling with your church. Marriage is one of the most challenging experiences which is why it is the most rewarding. It’s very important to take the time to not only plan for your wedding, but plan for your marriage. The months leading up to your wedding can be stressful, but you will enjoy the process more if you equally commit the same amount of energy into building your foundation for your marriage as you commit to planning your wedding day.” - Irene

REANNE + LEVAR Santorini, Greece

OCCUPATIONS: Corporate Litigation Attorney, Software

Engineer Recruiter WEDDING DATE: September 5, 2015 in La Jolla, California MARRIED FOR: 2 years

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING LIKE? "Our wedding was very

intimate and very fun! My husband and I were among the f irst in our college friend group to be wed, so we were very selective with our guest list because we wanted to create an atmosphere where our guests felt like they were also at a reunion and not just conf ined to the group of people they knew at their table. We also had an all-white dress code, which I LOVED! Our guest looked beautiful, and it really made our photos." WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY FOR YOUR WEDDING? "I think in hindsight

we all would have stressed less and enjoyed the moment more. When I talk to my closest friends about mishaps from my wedding, I realize how insignif icant they really were because no one else seemed to notice them but me! Everyone else was focused on the meaningful aspect of the night, eating drinking, and celebrating their love for me and my husband." WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AS A COUPLE? "We are very active foodies! We love trying new

restaurants and we equally enjoy working out and staying f it as a couple. We also enjoy hosting our friends for game nights . . . our friends group gets extremely competitive when it comes to Taboo!" WHO COOKS? "I think we have a healthy balance. I (Reanne)

do the majority of the cooking, but LeVar helps out on a weekly basis, and he plans our date nights which always include food!" TELL US ABOUT THE SHOOT. WHAT INSPIRED IT?

signif icant way. When I started planning for our trip, I realized it would fall on the week of our secondyear wedding anniversary and was inspired by the idea of having beautiful canvas' of the island around our home. I started looking for photographers online, and was having a really hard time so I reached out to our hotel, and they recommended Miltos! We couldn't have been paired with a more perfect photographer - Miltos really made our time together more than just a photo shoot, it turned into a private tour of the Island (including pastry testing). As we

walked the marbled streets to different shoot locations, everyone thought we were getting married and were yelling well-wishes. It was pretty special, it felt like I actually got a second wedding with none of the planning stresses! " WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE FOR NEWLYWEDS?

LeVar: "It’s a partnership and needs to be treated as such. We both have things that we are strong and weak at, and should be comfortable enough to play to each other’s strengths. When one person is good at something, let them take lead, and when the other person is good at something let them do the same. Remember you both share the same end goal."

Reanne: "Prioritize your marriage and the things that support it's growth; be protective of your spouse, (don't speak negatively about them to other people) and remember that you’re playing for the same team even when you’re arguing. You should never argue to win, but to gain understanding. Also to never wait on an apology (i.e. have uncommunicated expectations, your spouse is not a mind reader) and to apologize f irst. There should be no ego in asking for forgiveness." PHOTOGRAPHY: Miltos Karaiskakis

urirka and Joel’s love story began while both were attending college in Miami, Florida. Yurirka’s roommate at the time invited her out to a local party. Upon arriving they realized it was the birthday party of Joel. For Joel, Yurirka’s arrival was the greatest gift he could have ever received

- it was love at f irst sight for him. He was on a mission to capture Yurirka’s attention, who was somewhat apprehensive about him. But his sweet persistence paid off, and in Yurirka’s words, “I eventually gave him a chance and we’ve been inseparable ever since!” Fast forward into their relationship, on a rainy Sunday night. Yurirka and Joel decided to take her brothers out to dinner in NYC; the youngest of her brothers was home for spring break. After dinner, on the walk back to the car, Joel decides to guide them on a shorter route through Bryant Park. The park was closed and empty of people. Yurirka walked by Joel’s side while her brothers walked behind them. When they reached the center of the park Joel points out how lovely the rain looked in the lights ref lecting on the green f ield. Yurirka looked over to admire the scene and when she turned back Joel was down on one knee. Before he was able to say anything Yurirka began screaming with happiness - her heart so full of joy. Yurirka and Joel’s country club wedding was modern and unique. Yurirka looked stunning in her custom Galia Lahav wedding gown with her favorite accessory being her mother’s veil. Yurirka honored their love by wearing it on her most special of days, in her words, “my father and mother are everything to me and they have been happily married for over thirty years. The love I see between them, is what I aspire for my marriage to look like.” ADVICE FOR ENGAGED COUPLES: "Do not rush planning, take things one step at a time and create a schedule so you don’t feel you’re being hit with everything all at once! And most importantly, enjoy every minute - it goes by so fast! And hire K. Barner Events!" - Yurirka

The inspiration... "Shot in the heart of downtown Atlanta in January 2018, the Urban Glamour editorial fused a classic urban loft space with luxurious gold accents and beautiful fuchsia. The table design began with a twist on the trending marble look. The dark marble effect in the linen was the basis of this design and was complimented impeccably by the textures in the charger plates and the tiers of the cake. The gold chairs, candelabras, and stunning chargers added that elegant feel. And no glam wedding is complete without a pop of color. The added hints of fuchsia in the table design and f lorals were a stunning contrast!" -Kaycia Rhone Events

MUNATRAVEL: NEVIS NATURAL WONDER OF THE ROMANTIC WORLD

Text by Samuel Naumick

T

he beauty begins on the f light...cerulean, cyan, and azure blue ocean water views guide the way...tropical islands and vanishing sandbars dot the mingling waters of Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The plane descends between a mountainous terrain before touching down on the Island of St. Kitts at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. As you step off the plane directly onto the tarmac you’re greeted by perfect warmth and a relaxing cool breeze that seems to f ind you no matter where you are. You close your eyes, further opening your senses, and take a deep satisfying breath. The air is mingled with ocean f lavor and subtle f loral scents - a fragrance you wish to bottle and take home.

In just over ten minutes the water taxi docks at Oualie Beach, a beautiful natural beach with charming gingerbread cottages in traditional Caribbean style architecture spaciously placed throughout the landscape. This is where you are introduced to one of many local phrases used to describe this gem of an island; “Nevis naturally.” “Nevis naturally” references the clean, unspoiled environment visible all over the island. The beaches and landscape have an enchanting unmanicured appearance, as if you’re the f irst to set foot wherever you stand. The pressure of time in today’s constantly racing techno-dominate age recedes with the calming ebb and f low of the Nevis pace of life. This is a place to unplug. Nevis is just 36 square miles with a population of around 12,000, leading us to another local island phrase, “you’re only a stranger in Nevis once.” The people are genuine and welcoming, making you feel right at home, and due to the perfectly small population, chances are the faces will quickly become familiar. The local homes, are colorfully adorned, surrounded by lush tropical forest landscape, while wild Donkeys, herds of grazing Sheep and Goats, and groups of Vervet Monkeys can be seen all over the island.

St Kitts is alive with the hustle and bustle of tourism traff ic, a regular stop for cruise ships, yachts and superyachts. For those seeking the more traditional island-getaway experience, go no further. For all others, your water taxi captain awaits - a drink of freshly squeezed fruit juices and rum in-hand. The water taxi skips across the mingling waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, refreshing ocean spray resting on your skin. Nevis Peak, a potentially active stratovolcano, rises 3,232 ft in the approaching distance - the apex of which remains shrouded in cloud coverage, sustaining rainforest and cloud-forest habitats. feels like your own personal island escape. Nevis dining includes everything from Caribbean dishes to international cuisine - regardless of your selection only the freshest of ingredients are used, and every dietary need can be accommodated. Aside from perfect relaxation and detaching from the rapid pace of everyday life, Nevis offers plenty of opportunity for swimming, sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, f ishing, hiking, horse riding, cycling, tennis, cricket, golf, and so much more. The island’s annual festivals and activities include the Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel swim, kite f lying contests, relay races, f ishing tournaments, Mango and Food Festival, marathons, triathlons, turtle conservation programs, and more. The island is also home to numerous historical sites, landmarks, and museums - with a rich history including being

the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton; one of the founding fathers of the United States, founder of the United States’ f inancial system, and the f irst Secretary of the Treasury. Nevis is a place to disconnect from life and rediscover yourself. It is a place that soon after setting foot on you immediately become a spokesperson for, thinking of ways not to leave or how quickly to come back. It is more than just a tourism destination. It is a place rich in history and culture, loved and cared for by many most especially by the people fortunate to call it home. With stunning landscapes, numerous idyllic hotels, annual festivals, f ine dining, beautiful beaches, wide range of activities, nightlife, peace and relaxation, wonderful people, and so much more - it isn’t at all diff icult to see why Nevis is known as being the most romantic destination in the Caribbean. I would take it a step further and say that claim extends beyond just the Caribbean. Nevis is a natural wonder of the romantic world. So plan your romantic vacation, your surprise engagement, destination wedding, honeymoon, or simply just a secret escape from it all - whatever your romantic desires, Nevis is the answer to your prayers.
