The spring is here and the team at Munaluchi Bridal Magazine is pleased to bring you our second issue. The Premiere was a great success, thanks to you. This time, we bring you fresh inspiration for your upcoming nuptials. We found some of the seasons most glamourous gowns as well as contemporary accessories from talented designers. We honored the rise of Ankara fashion in the diaspora, by dedicating several pages to the latest in African runway designs. You can also find some of the most unique ways the Ankara fabric has been incorporated into everyday living in the Lifestyle section. We featured dapper suits for the modern day man. And contemporary makeup and wedding hairstyles that infuse a touch of Old Hollywood Glamour. And, as promised, we devoted countless pages to sensational real weddings from around the country and across the globe. A lot has happened since our Premiere. One of the highlights is the redesign of the website. It is more interactive and will keep you up to date on wedding trends in-between issues. We call it the Munaluchi Bridal Online Experience. Since it’s difficult to include everything in the magazine, you’ll be thrilled to find website-only feature stories, giveaways, and previews of past and upcoming issues. We encourage you to visit the new website, and feel free to provide your feedback. It has been a great source. We hope you enjoy this issue. Visit us at www.munaluchibridal. com. Happy Planning!

Want to achieve this look? Make-up artist MelissaRoshan recommends exfoliating skin prior to make-up application, and following up with a great emollient rich moisturizer. African women tend to have oilier skin by nature which is wonderful for the aging process, but this can be a nightmare in pictures because of the shine factor. Opt for a great oil-free foundation by Mac Cosmetics in the Studio Fix line. Long for your face to look luminous, and glowy? Every woman needs to invest in Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Shimmer Brick. Sweep this product over your cheek bones after applying foundation. Purple, mauves, and pink tones are a bridal must this Spring. Do try Loreal Hip High Intensity pigment shadows in colors like, ‘Charisma’ shown on Brit. A well defined brow, and gorgeous natural lip completes her look.

Craving skin that is luminous, but provides enough coverage? Mix your favorite liquid foundation with a dime size of emollient moisturizer. Follow up with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics ‘Shimmer Brick’, and nude lip gloss.

Want a look that screams, “Retro Glam?”.. Opt for a beautiful smoky eye with hints of Purple, and Midnight colors. Brits’ smoky eye was achieved by using Nars Cosmetics eyeshadow duo in, ‘Underworld’. Two coats of mascara by Christian Diors, ‘Dior Show’, and Nars Cosmetics lip color in ‘Belle De Jour’.

Be bold, and daring! Go for a chocolate, bronzy lip color, and eye color. Gently exfoliate your lips first, then pat dry. Line lips, and fill in with a cocoa lip liner like Mac Cosmetics 80% lip liner. Top it off with Victoria Secrets Beauty Rush lip gloss in Bare Bronze. Nars Cosmetics eye shadow duo in Antique Bronze was applied with water to give a high gloss look. A rich thick kohl eyeliner completed the smoky eye.

romantic tropical paradise under clear blue summer skies, a twoyear ongoing romance, and two young love-birds….a recipe for a magical destination wedding. Haling from Atlanta GA, meet Mesita DeVora Simms and Durante Bernard Partridge. A match made in heaven and a union blessed on the shores of Cancun, Mexico. Mesita DeVora Simms, proud daughter of Edith and Barry Smith of Atlanta, GA with a Bahamian background, obtained her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from Georgia State University. Currently, she resides and works in Houston as Director of private events at the Houston City Club. Durante Bernard Partridge, proud son of Diane Johnson and Stacy McDaniel of Atlanta, GA, also obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing. Currently, Durante is pursuing a Juris Doctorate degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Their love story began two years ago during their final semester at Georgia State University. Graduation was not the only thing on Durante’s mind as he mustered courage to finally speak to the beauty from across the room who had caught his eye throughout the semester. “He finally built

up enough courage to say something on the last day of class! He followed me to my car in the rain and when he didn’t ask for my number while I was getting wet, I nicely said ‘I’m getting wet so are you going to ask me for my number or what?’ And the rest is history. I couldn’t refuse those beautiful eyes!”, Mesita recounts the couple’s first encounter. On February 2, 2008, the couple turned a page into their future together as Mesita tearfully accepted Durante’s humble request to be his wife. What was supposed to be a casual visit during his lunch break, turned out to be a memorable moment for the couple. “…Durante was doing some awkward hand gestures. It took me about five minutes to realize that the ring was on his finger the whole time. Once I finally noticed it, Durante got down on his knees and asked me to marry him. I started crying and I eventually said yes!”

Real Weddings

The couple opted for a destination wedding. Destination – the exotic shores of Cancun, Mexico (Playa Mujeres – Excellence Playa Mujeres Resort). The ocean view venue added to the scenic bliss and tranquil ambiance befitting a destination wedding. With a career in event plan-

70

ning, Mesita knew too well how to deal with the occasional hiccups in planning events and this came in handy when she had to postpone her nuptials due to the swine flu scare in Mexico. The originally scheduled date of May 14, 2009 had to be rescheduled for June 18, 2009. Apart from the rescheduling issue and the usual communication barriers with on-site vendors, Mesita was well on her way to planning her dream wedding. From the venue selection right down to the passport-like wedding invitations detailing wedding logistics and the weekend itinerary, and the beach bag favors containing beach necessities for guests, everything played perfectly into her destination wedding vision. The outdoor nuptial ceremony was attended by close friends and family – an intimate affair held under the beach gazebo overlooking the ocean. It was a traditional Christian wedding. However, staying true to the destination concept, the couple engaged in a signature sand ceremony (very common with beach destination weddings) instead of the usual unity candle lighting ceremony to signify their union. The couple stood hand in hand in front of their audience to profess their vows and love for each other. The bride was elegantly dressed in a classic sequenced sweetheart neckline and strapless white gown from Pronovias. A bouquet of fuschia roses and matching fuschia shoes were added to her ensemble to provide that dramatic wow factor. The groom stood confident and suave in his crisp all white suit from Brooks Brothers, also donning a soft baby pink shirt and a fuschia orchid on his lapel for a similar fierce effect.

71

“Don’t stress over the little things. Relax and enjoy every minute of the planning and the big day. After all, you’re marrying the love of your life and that’s all that matters. We wouldn’t do anything differently. We loved having a destination wedding. It was the best decision we ever made!” -Mesita www.munaluchibridal.com

Spring/Summer.2010

Real Weddings 72

The classic black and white color scheme, off set by the fierce hue of fuschia highlights added to the overall sophistication and elegance of the ceremony. The beach gazebo adorned with lovely white orchids enclosed guest seating with ivory chair covers and fuschia sashes. A camera and bubbles were placed on each chair to allow guests to capture every moment of the ceremony. The newly weds finally welcomed their guests into the beach lounge for an intimate cocktail hour after the lovely ceremony. Their seated reception was held in a private terrace overlooking the ocean. The entertainment included a wide variety of music which had guests dancing all night long. The merriment continued after the reception to a karaoke event the resort was hosting. The bridal party in no time took over the show! Definitely a night to remember for the couple as well as their guests. Akua Abeasi

>Before you plan your destination wedding... These days, destination weddings are becoming more popular amongst African couples getting married in the US. For many of these couples, the trend is to lavish on a huge bash for the traditional or cultural ceremony at home, while reserving the "white" wedding for an exotic destination. This is becoming especially popular because of the traditionally huge guest lists (often times greater than 400 guests) that African weddings attract. By having a destination wedding, couples are able to lavish a bit more on the things they love as well as cut costs. Most importantly, the guest list is dramatically reduced to those who are dearest to the couple, and there is less of a chance of wedding crashers and the fear of offending those co-workers and business contacts the couple may have felt obliged to invite. While destination weddings are great for couples seeking romance and adventure, planning an away wedding can come with its fair share of surprises. To help you avoid travel trip-ups and planning pitfalls, we've put together a few tips to help you plan your dream wedding. 73

Save-the-dates

Save-the-date cards should be sent out well in advance, usually at least 8 months. This gives guests the advance notice they need to plan ahead and get great deals on airfare and hotel reservations.

Bridal Party Etiquette

Tell the people you want to include in your bridal party that you're having a destination wedding BEFORE asking, in case finances are an issue.

Get Help Hire a wedding coordinator near you with destination wedding experience that can work with the planner at your destination. Don't worry about paying 2 fees, usually the wedding planner at your destination is included in your package. Overall, you can expect to budget about 10-15% of the total cost of your wedding for a wedding planner.

Be Accomodating Some friends may not be able to swing a four-star hotel in Maui. And you may have elderly family members who would have a difficult time with long-distance travel. Rather than excluding loved ones, research plenty of ways to meet their needs. www.munaluchibridal.com

spring/summer 2010

Discounts

Don't forget to ask for discounts for you and your guests. Your business is of great value to the resort, so they will be willing to give you and your guests a break. If there are things included in your package that you don't want, ask for credit. Even if credit is not granted, you can bargain for upgrades for your guests.

Group Rates

Many airlines and hotels offer group rates if inviting 10 guests or more. Check out American Airlines-they offer a 10% discount off published rates. You can visit their website for more information on the discounts.

Foreign Tongues

Familiarize yourself with the local language if you're going overseas. Get tips from travlang. com.

Vendor Checks 74

The best way to scout local vendors is to visit the destination before-hand. If you can not make the visit, ask for a portfolio and references. It's also a good idea to send thank you notes to the vendors you commit to. Remember, they can make or break your dream wedding. Bring your own professionals for essential items like photography and decor design.

Health Check

Look into immunizations if you're traveling to an exotic location, such as Africa or Nicaragua. You can visit the travel section on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for a complete list.

Legalities

If traveling overseas, do some research on some of the legalities. For instance, in Mexico, you will have to have local chest X rays and blood tests. In Venice, some documents will have to be translated into Italian.

Do Your Guests a Favor

Show guests your gratitude with favors they will cherPhotography: Munaluchi Studios ish. If everyone is staying at the same hotel or resort, arrange to have a small token of your appreciation waiting at the front desk for check-in. Consider creating a themed welcome basket and have it delivered to their rooms. Be sure to include local maps or area guides and a list of activities you've prepared for them. It's also important to provide transportation to and from the venues. Make sure you do a test run with the transportation before your guests arrive. Lastly, help guests with children arrange for babysitting services.

hat are the odds of a mistaken phone call leading to a blissful union? One to nothing; according to our next couple. Apparently Chimdimma Ilonzo and Chinedu Momah have more than just their first names in common - Chimdimma (Chichi) and Chinedu (Chi). They also share a mutual friend, Stacy Matthews, who decided to play cupid after a misplaced call to Chichi that was intended for Chi.

Meet the lovely couple, Chichi Ilonzo and Chinedu Momah, two young Nigerian- Americans who found love in a telephonic mishap. Nevertheless, they both credit their union to divine intervention. Chichi who was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, spent the majority of her childhood growing up in Nigeria. She returned to the States to attend Temple University where she obtained her Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy. Chinedu was born in Brooklyn, New York but spent his childhood years in Long Island, New York. After a rewarding experience in semi-professional college football, Chinedu decided to concentrate on his other interest - pharmacy. He obtained his Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from St. John University. Fate had it that the young couple not only had common interests in pharmacy but in each other as well. Running in the same professional circles, their paths were sure to cross at some point in time.

An early spring proposal commenced their nuptial story-a proposal that commemorated their two year courtship. On April 8, 2009 Chinedu asked Chichi to be his lifetime partner on bended knees at an exclusive Chicago restaurant, with a 70 story view of the Chicago skyline and serenading lyrics of Savage Garden’ s ‘Truly, Madly Deeply’, (Chichi’s favorite song). The ring was presented in a silver dessert bowl accompanied by chocolate covered strawberries to an unsuspecting and surprised Chichi, who said yes amidst tears of happiness.

“Chichi is my best friend, my queen, my diamond and my everything. She is an amazing person with a smile that makes me smile. She is beautiful, up lifting, high spirited, classy, open hearted, strong-willed and rooted in the word of God. Just the presence of her in my life gives me strength to strive to be the best in everything I do; the person I am today will not exist without her in my life. I am the most blessed man alive to have her as the true love of my life.” – Chinedu

It was very important for the couple to have a wedding and union sealed by a man of the cloth in the house of God. It was also important to incorporate aspects of their Igbo culture and traditions. To best accommodate this, both a traditional and a white wedding were celebrated. The traditional wedding took place on December 31, 2009, at the bride’s village in Uke, Anambra State, Nigeria while the white wedding followed right after on January 2, 2010 at the All Saints’ Anglican Church, Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. Inspired by various elements of the couple’s dual heritage – Nigerian as well as American – both events represented a cohesive collage of their past, present and future.

On the day of the traditional wedding, Chichi embodied a true Igbo princess in her culturally inspired ensembles and matching accessories. Chinedu followed suit in his traditional two piece outfits fit for Igbo royalty. Amidst drumming, jubilations and cheers, the couple celebrated their love and union and

serene blend of jasper, orange and a tint of silver transformed the banquet hall of the Four Seasons Resort into a kaleidoscopic burst of exotic hues and elegant bliss befitting a destination paradise. This destination paradise was where Helen Eferakorho and Folarin Ajijo and exchanged nuptial vows to be man and wife. Theirs is a love story that began seven and a half years ago in Michigan where they met. However, on July 25, 2009, a new chapter of their romantic journey began: the grand finale to a 2007 New Year’s Eve proposal and a 2008 traditional engagement ceremony in Nigeria.

Spring/Summer.2010 www.munaluchibridal.com

Helen recounts the romantic details of the proposal, “Folarin had always promised a proposal before the end of 2007 and was true to his word. Before the clock struck midnight ushering in 2008, he had made me the happiest woman in the world by asking me to be his wife! My usual New Year’s eve routine always included a prayerful watch night service. That year however, Folarin insisted we change things up a bit and do dinner before church. After a lovely dinner, Folarin insisted we go back to his place, as he had to pick something up before heading to church. A very reluctant me finally agreed but insisted on sitting in the car as he went upstairs to pick up what he had left. But once we arrived at his place he managed to convince me to come upstairs with him. The sight was from a movie scene-lit candles were everywhere, leading up the stairs and into his

bedroom. Amidst the candle light silhouette, he popped the question and I so adoringly obliged.” For their wedding, the couple opted for an intimate affair, orchestrated to every intricate detail. Helen’s keen eye for color combination and planning coupled with knowing exactly what she wanted made the planning process stress free. With the help of her wedding planner, Heather Woodworth, Helen set out to plan her matrimonial masterpiece. From the venue selection-the Four Seasons Resort in Floridaright down to the artistic use of fruit as the key item of décor, everything played perfectly into

the couple’s vision of a destination wedding. The nuptial ceremony took place in an indoor banquet room, beautifully transformed into a blissful sanctuary. The idea of an Ocean front wedding could not be entertained due to a steady summer drizzle. Close friends and family gathered around to witness the couple share their vows for the first time as hus-

band and wife. Standing hand in hand, the couple looked stunning. The bride, elegantly dressed in a sweet-heart bodice gown from Eve of Milady, personified true beauty. The groom stood confident and sophisticated donning a tailored suit by Hugo Boss. An intimate cocktail hour followed afterwards, giving guests an opportunity to mingle, while the bridal party partook in a photography session. As guests finally moved into the banquet hall for the reception dinner, they were welcomed into an ambiance of elegance and flair, emphasized by the bold orange dĂŠcor, set off by jasper trimmings and silver highlights.

>The I DO’s of Money

(Money talk with the Budgetnista)

When taking your marriage vows, for richer or for poorer needs to be highlighted, underlined and italicized. Marriage means the blending of two lives including money. Since finances are one of the leading causes of divorce it’s important to get them right. Before saying I do in front of God, family and friends I suggest you first commit to the following I DO’s…

I DO agree to be truthful about my current financial situation before we marry. Being honest about things like your credit card debt is scary but necessary. Your future spouse deserves to know about all your outstanding debt, spending habits and wealth (or lack thereof). The best way to begin this conversation is by both of you getting a copy of your credit report and going through it line by line. By doing this, you can begin to help each other become stronger financially now.

I DO promise to create a family budget.

100

Even if the family is just the two of you, creating a tangible monthly budget will single handedly change your financial lives. Start by creating what I call, a Money List. A Money List is a list of all your expenses, their monthly costs and due dates. After creating your ML add up your monthly expenses and subtract them from your joint takehome pay. There should be money left over. Use this excess money for cash items (groceries, entertainment, eating out etc.), debt pay-down, savings, investment and retirement. Make these new items monthly expenses and add them to your Money List. Ultimately the monthly expenses on your Money List should equal your monthly take-home pay. Open up a joint savings account and checking account just for bills. Automate transfers to your savings and bills account and automate your bill payments. Twice a month both of you should be responsible for checking that all the automated transfers and bill payments were made. This is your new family budget! It’s visible, tangible and easy to use.

I DO set clear joint financial goals together. It’s important that as a couple you both have similar financial goals. What kind of lifestyle do you both want to live? When do you want to retire? Will both of you work? These are just some of the questions that should be asked before the walk own the isle. The first time the two of you talk about money should not be when planning the wedding or you may be in for a rude awakening.

I DO promise to be fiscally transparent and communicate openly about our money. There should be no financial secrets in a marriage. Communication is key especially when dealing with money. Even if you both decide to maintain a joint account as well as separate accounts, there should be a clear understanding about what is going where.

Create a system that both of you can and will use to easily manage your money, talk about money openly and regularly. Don’t make it a taboo subject especially when you have children. Everyone has a stake in the family’s finances, so everyone should have a say.

Segun Gele

119

The Art of Gele Tying... There is an art to successfully crafting the perfect African headtie, and Segun Gele has mastered it. Born Segun Olaleye in Western Nigeria, Iwo Township in Osun State to be precise, Segun’s passion for headties has been evident since he was a young man. This passion is primarily a direct result of his love for his mother and wanting her to look her best at all times. Like many African women, his mother would fight and struggle to create a presentable headtie before church, the end result of this “struggle” was a headtie far from being a work of art. Being the doting son that he was, Segun would tie the headtie onto his head first and fit it to his mother. His creations always turned out to be more appeasing to the eye than what

she initially created. This prechurch preparation became a ritual between the two for years. It wasn’t until 1995 that Segun started styling headties for brides for their traditional weddings. It was also during this time that he began to see how his skill for crafting beautiful African headties could be profitable. In 2001, he graduated from Lagos State University with a BA in

120

English, however gele styling didn’t become his livelihood until later. In 2003 his friend, Mariam Mogaji invited him to a party for her auntie, there he wooed the crowd with his artistic knack for transforming fabric into works of art. But Segun’s talents extend far beyond gele’s, he runs an event planning company called, I.P. Pro Events as well as train other gele experts. Dreena Whitfield

here is nothing unusual about the fact Imuetinyan Agidigbi and John-Dean Stefan Nwafor met on a college chat website. What is remarkable is how fast it took cupid to strike. In fact, when logging in, it was John’s flirty message that first captivated Imuetinyan’s attention. “I thought it was kind of funny, because this was the first message I had received in months,” says Imuetinyan. “When I checked the message, it was from John, who said, “I like your page and you are very cute, would you like to chat for a little while?” I was convinced that he said the same thing to other girls online, but I was curious to find out more about John.” Once discovering they shared mutual friends, their chemistry became instantaneous. From cyber space to soul mates, Imuetinyan and John spent their college years developing their relationship, exchanging countless words on a daily basis. It was only fitting John marked the next five years with a highly expressive proposal in marriage. “From the first time I met ‘Tinyan’, I knew there was something special about her and I knew she was the one for me,” says John. Prepping food at her sister’s house to what Imuetinyan thought was just a pre-Thanksgiving gathering, John managed to sweet talk her, literally with what looked to be a recipe but as a matter of fact, was a poem written by John called, “the ingredients of love”. “I was smiling when my sister suggested that I turn to the back of the paper,” says Imuetinyan. “I turned the paper and saw a picture of John and I, with text on the bottom that read, ‘Imuetinyan, Will You Marry Me.’ Once I realized that it was a proposal, John was on one knee with the most beautiful diamond engagement ring pointing right at me. I took the ring and said YES! I was so shocked and very happy. I couldn’t even cook.” Imuetinyan and John kept the mood right by attending their local movie theater, a pastime the two have come to enjoy and, as for that particular day, one they will always remember. www.munaluchibridal.com

“I don’t think I paid much attention to the movie, but I must say -- it was the best movie I had ever seen!” says Imuetinyan. While having a difficult time choosing a date for their New Jersey wedding, the couple decided one wedding wouldn’t do. Reflecting on John’s family religious background as well as their shared traditional Nigerian upbringings, they set their American wedding date to be on April 11, 2009 with their traditional Nigerian wedding on April 4, 2009. “We chose these dates because it would allow more of John’s family members who are Seven-Day Adventist to participate and attend the wedding.” Shortly after their traditional wedding ceremony was held at the Days Inn in Bridgewater, N.J., Imuetinyan and

John began focusing on their white fairytale wedding. Relying on family members to help plan their special day, the couple’s wedding color palette was inspired by the bright, bold colors vividly displayed during the spring season. A touch of white and espresso brown were added to the flower girl’s dress, menu cards, gift boxes, and guests’ tables, while olive green was incorporated in the bridesmaids’ dresses and candlelit centerpieces. Once the couple said their ‘I do’s” the celebration moved its way into the Bradford Es-

tate grand ballroom, the bride’s all-time dream location filled with crystal chandeliers and a panoramic view from the outdoors. Transformed into a magical orchid garden, the reception hall was decorated with a vivid mix of green hydrangeas, white roses and green hypericum berries, as were Imuetinyan’s bouquet and the bride and groom table vases. Even the groomsmen wore green stripped ties and sported white roses and hypericum berries to coordinate with the color scheme. As the evening celebration drew near, an atmosphere of eating, drinking, and live music filled the room where guests feasted on a gourmet dinner that began with seasonal fruit and Caesar salad topped with a 3 layer yellow wedding cake. “I just wanted my wedding to have a sophisticated, natural ambiance,” says Imuetinyan. “I wanted to have a Nigerian “party” that was different from what Nigerians were used to. It was amazing.”

But the highlight of the evening was when the bride and groom slipped into something festive-- a welcoming surprise for all to see. “We wanted to introduce some of our friends and family who were not able to make it to the native wedding to our customs and traditions,” says Imuetinyan. “So, after dinner, we changed to our native wedding attire and entered the reception to the song “Igwe”. Our friends were blown away by out outfits and the money began to spray all over us.” Although it took the couple one year and a half in advance to plan their wedding, one thing Imuetinyan and John can say for sure is that, “A wedding is only one day, but a marriage last a lifetime. Regardless of what happens on your wedding day, you will only remember the good things.” Kaylyn Eshesimua

iffany Nicole Robinson never imagined that she would run into her soul mate and at a church picnic in Virginia, many miles away from her Seattle residence. It was at this church picnic, where her best friend, Kristin, introduced her to Darryl Tapp. With similar interests, (Tiffany is a group fitness instructor and Darryl a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles), the chemistry between the two was undeniable. Nevertheless, after the picnic and a movie later on that night, Darryl never asked Tiffany for her number. “ Later on, he texted by friend and asked for my phone number. When we eventually spoke, he apologized for ‘dropping the ball.’” The two were inseparable since then. After a romantic two year courtship, Darryl knew he was ready to make Tiffany his lifetime partner. February 15, 2009, Tiffany was made an offer she could not refuse - an unexpected proposal from the love of her life. “ I was so thrown off,” Tiffany recalls. She actually expected a proposal the night before, although Darryl told her numerous times in the past that he would never propose to her on a holiday. Tiffany narrates her proposal story as if it was yesterday when she was promised the title of Mrs. Darryl www.munaluchibridal.com

Tapp. “I arrived in Virginia the night before Valentine’s Day. Darryl told me I have 10 minutes to pack a suitcase because we were leaving. It was really late--almost 12am so I was a bit confused, but I went ahead and packed the suitcase. We checked into the W hotel, then the next day we had our normal routine of morning exercise and then breakfast.” The lovebirds enjoyed a soothing couples massage before Darryl whipped out a stunning BCBG dress and a matching pair of shoes for Tiffany. Sharply dressed, the two headed over to dinner, where they enjoyed

a four course meal. “In my head, I was thinking, he’s going to propose. But it was a holiday, and he usually sticks to his word,” Tiffany recollects. Finally, the night ended with a comedy show. “At the end of the night I was a bit disappointed since there was no ring, yet, it was the best Valentine’s day I ever had.” It wasn’t until the next morning, right before going to church, that Darryl finally proposed. Tiffany remembers, “I was in such shock that he had to ask me twice.” The couple opted for a desti-

135 nation wedding at the Disney Resort in Florida. It was favored over a Hawaii or Carribean destination, because it provided the most convenience for their guests. The lovely wedding ceremony took place in the wedding pavilion overlooking the ocean. “The pavilion is non-denominational but had pews and an organ, so it gave that churchlike atmosphere that was very important to both of us,” says Tiffany. The setting was enhanced with a royal touch of purple and platinum highlights. The bride turned heads with her Kenneth Pool fish tail gown and her platinum shoes finished her look, adding a bit of sparkle. Tiffany’s only criteria for her bridesmaids was that they look fabulous, and they looked fabulous indeed in their deep purple BCBG dresses. Before Tiffany entered the pavilion, Darryl orchestrated a grand entrance for the groomsmen, in which they entered one by one, with their sunglasses on. Once at the altar, Tiffany locked eyes with her groom as they stood before her uncle, Frankie Coleman, the officiating man of the cloth.

I love the richness and the bright colors of African Art/Fabrics, and would love to infuse that into my wedding. We’re however a modern couple with contemporary sensibilities and unsure of how to work these into our design palette without overwhelming it. Help!

skthe Expert

I loved your note because the desire to express your identity through your wedding is apparent, and that’s a great start in planning such a special day. I also understand your concerns because I too have seen the questionable results when brides, in trying to include the African culture into their wedding, somehow get lost in it; making their wedding solely about that. The result of this are usually cookie-cutter/cliché assumptions that are apparent in their design and fashion selections; for example, gold clad African Queens, or Kente bridal dresses with matching hats, a clear deterrent for many Brides like yourself.

Q:

The good news is that there are many great ways to accentuate your modern/contemporary sensibilities with elements of african fashion and art due to a plethora of items and talented artists in the market today. Africa is making great strides in fashion, and you can definitely gain from this movement. And no! You’re not restricted to your bridal party wearing modern designed Ankara-Inspired dresses to pull this off … as much we all love them.

To stay true to your modern identity, have you thought about infusing African elements into your wedding in unconventional ways? For example, using colorful african beaded vases with a simple toned floral arrangement as centerpieces, or accentuating your bridal party attire with gorgeous ankara bracelets or beaded necklaces for that subtle pop of color? I’ve also had florists hand-tie a bride’s bouquet in beaded african print fabric, playing with the color of the flowers, beads and fabric. What about inserting hand-made Aso-Oke or ankara purses as an accessory for your bridal party to compliment muted metallic-toned silk dresses? Your guests may also enjoy viewing rented african or africaninspired paintings and/or sculptures during cocktail hour. My advice is to work with an experienced planner who can identify with you, with great knowledge of happenings in the african fashion /art realm. Or have your current planner consult with one that does – It’ll make a world of difference! Don’t forget, the internet is always a great point of research as well. I look forward to hearing from you or seeing pictures of your fabulous day! Rotola Ogunye

ith a world filled with millions of people, finding your soul mate can be hard to come by; luckily for bride Nkem Dike, she would come to partake in a beloved lasting friendship with her true love, starting from the 4th grade where she met future husband Ikechukwu Chineme. “As good friends, we shared a lot with each other, good times, bad times, break-ups, hook-ups, etc. says Nkem and Ikechukwu. In fact, it was years later before the future bride and groom would recognize their relationship was based on more than simple good fortune and officially embarked on dating in 2001. Focused on academics and career choices, (Ikechukwu is a physican, and Nkem a public health research associate) the couple dated long distance and put their love life on hold upon reaching career success. the two were ready to settle down and take the next step into marriage, they waited no longer and handily took charge. “To abide with my Igbo culture I went home to tell my father who went with me to see Nkem’s father to express my desire to marry her,” said Ikechukwu. On receiving a blessing from his future father-in-law, Ikechukwu purchased a ring and was ready to make the love of his life the happiest woman in the world.

“My first idea was to use photos of us together over the years to write out all the letters of “Will you marry me?” but it was a bit hard to tell what I was trying to spell out by turning the pages of the album,” said Ikechukwu. “So along with the album, I got down on one knee one afternoon while we were hanging out at Nkem’s home, and asked her to marry me.” Spring/Summer.2010 www.munaluchibridal.com

Describing themselves as ‘low key sort of people’, Nkem and Ikechukwu opted for a private yet creative long lasting experience to illustrate their nuptials by having three separate ceremonies over a duration of time that orchestrated their love and commitment to each other. in Nigeria, a traditional affair strictly for extended family members. The following year they moved onto their civil ceremony that consisted of their parents and two witnesses. Finally on April 17, 2009, Nkem and Ikechukwu made their last stop in Chicago and put together an extravagant church blessing held at the Saint Gertrude Parish to celebrate with close friends and family. The color scheme was essentially red and ivory done in a romantic, yet provincial way. “We loved the way the colors looked together,” said Ikechukwu, “but Nkem also loves roses and calla lilies together and wanted those as the wedding flowers, so ivory and red made the most sense.” Following the church blessing, the two welcomed their guests to a formal reception held in a unique restaurant that was shaped into an old-style barn. “We were lucky to find a place that did all the catering

Floating candles danced inside tall glass centerpieces, and ivory boxes laced with red ribbons graced the top of the lavish tablecloths. Once guests were settled in, the bride and groom opened up the main event with the breaking of the kola nut--a Nigerian Igbo tradition used for customary celebrations and ceremonies. Throughout the year, the country enjoys sunshine and high daytime temperatures practically uninterrupted, and luxury suites which make for the most romantic of honeymoons. Here are a few options for lodging in The Gambia.

Mandina Lodges Located near the river and jungle of the Makasutu Forest, the Mandina Lodges are luxurious and the most unique in the Gambia. Since the lodges are located on the river, guests can get around in canoes or by foot. These lodges will be most enjoyable by the Eco-friendy couple who wants to 'get away from it all' and loves wildlife, and simple earthly elements. Sticking to that theme, each suite has a roofless, private bathroom and

t was nothing short of a blessing when Kwentor and Chineze found each other at a family wedding celebration (a union between Kwentor’s sister and Chineze’s cousin). A coy inviting look from Chineze was all Kwentor needed, and he was sure he had found his lifetime partner. A Facebook message, an out-of-town first dinner date and a number of out-of-state phone calls blossomed into a friendship which in turn developed into a romantic six-month courtship.

Chineze Ilogu & Kwentor Uwechue Somerset, New Jersey September 12, 2009

Spring/Summer.2010

Meet the couple: Kwentor Quentin Obiajulu Uwechue and Chineze Ijeoma Adanma Ilogu. Kwentor was born and raised in Delta State, Nigeria. He obtained his bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Jos and went on to obtain a post graduate masters degree in the same discipline at Martin University in Indianapolis. Currently, Kwentor works for the State of Indiana as a Case Manager. Chineze was born and raised in Anambra State, Nigeria. She obtained a bachelors degree in Information Systems from Valley City State University, Valley City, North Dakota. She is currently attending West Chester University, Pennsylvania for a post graduate masters degree in Business Administration and currently works for CSL Behring as a Senior Clinical Research Associate.

Breakfast at Denny’s will always incite wonderful memories for Chineze and never again will she refuse a little dessert after her meal! Kwentor popped the four magic words to Chineze, on bended knees in front of a viewing audience in an Indianapolis Dennys Restaurant. Accompanying his proposal was a ring which was meticulously placed beside the dessert order that Kwentor had insisted Chineze have. “As soon as we arrived, he asked if I wanted dessert as well. I thought it was kind of odd since you don’t typically get dessert for breakfast but I was like oh well, this is kind of brunch time really. I said I would get some dessert after the meal. After we finished eating, he reminded me to get dessert which I wasn’t in the mood for so I refused. I couldn’t understand why it was such a big deal to him and why he looked so frustrated. I reluctantly agreed to try some just to please him after refusing for a while”, Chineze recounts the events of that wonderful day. “Are you sure you are kneeling down?” - not your typical response for a proposal and one that ruffled Kwentor’s nerves a bit more. Chineze finally said the magic word Kwentor was waiting for and amidst cheers and clapping from their eager audience, they began their lifetime story together. For their wedding, the couple opted for both a traditional and white wedding – the traditional wedding held in Nigeria and the white wedding held in the States - to give their friends and family the option of attending either depending on what was more convenient in terms of location.

Their traditional wedding took place on August 7, 2009 in Ihiala, Anambra State, Nigeria. This gave the couple an opportunity to meet their new families. Both Chineze and Kwentor had lost their mothers, so it was very important to each of them to have their fathers’ blessings and involvement in their union. Chineze envisioned a fun and colorful wedding, but more importantly a culturally laced wedding that exhibited class and elegance. This thinking ran true to her wedding color selection of tangerine orange and kiwi green. A classic nuptial ceremony was conducted, however, to make it more personal to the couple, both bride and Spring/Summer.2010 www.munaluchibridal.com

groom picked a song of choice that was sung and dedicated to them. The groom’s choice; Jesus Loves Me and the bride’s choice; Testify to Love. Candles were lit in remembrance of both mothers, who could not witness this joyous occasion. In front of friends, family and well wishers, Kwentor and Chineze professed their love for each other and vowed to remain husband and wife till the end. After a lovely ceremony, the newlyweds joined their guests for some light conversation and mingling at a pre-reception cocktail hour. The banquet hall was transformed into a tangerine and kiwi colored garden of Eden. The tropical effect was further enhanced by naming each table after a fruit. Seated guests were entertained by a dancing bridal party as they made their entrance into the banquet hall. Soon after, Chineze and Kwentor made their grand entrance amidst a standing ovation and cheering. The evening’s festivities began on a solemn note as a special video played in remembrance of the couples’ mothers.

I can’t really say when I actually met Benson for the first time, but our families have been pretty close for years,” said Oby Nwankwo about husband Benson Otti. Reconnecting during a trip to Nigeria for Christmas, the two exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch. It wasn’t until the 4th of July holiday that Oby got in touch with Benson and invited him to a BBQ. “She caught my eye and her beauty and personality piqued my interest.” Right away the pair clicked, leading on to a serious relationship. “Texting turned to emails during the day and phone calls during lunch hour and at night time,” said Oby. “I do remember thinking, ‘man, this dude is really nosey’. We spent virtually every weekend together. We did everything together; it was like he was a part of the family.” While it seemed that destiny had finally brought the two together, it also had a way of ruining Benson’s proposal plans. Originally, he planned to surprise her in Maryland after she returned from her Christmas trip to Nigeria--but an impromptu trip to Dublin ruined that idea. Then he considered arranging a last minute trip to Dublin for Oby, where he would surprise her with a ring--but that idea was (ruined) by Oby’s last minute job orientation. He even considered proposing during their anniversary, but that would be too obvious. Fortunately, when the two returned home and got together during a romantic evening in Manhattan, Oby had no idea she was going to be subject to a set up that would capture the beginning of their lives together.

“There was a specific type of camera he’d been talking about for months,” said Oby. “After consulting with his good friend Femi, I got an idea of what type of camera to get.” Driving home from a comedy show, Benson decided at the spur of the moment he wanted to take pictures of the New York skyline. “This was about an hour drive from where we were, so I agreed,” said Oby. “This wasn’t odd because we typically did random things like that. I also didn’t want to stop him from testing out his new toy so I agreed.” After Oby had taken a couple of pictures of the New York scenery, Benson managed to spot a couple coming towards their direction and asked the man to take a picture of them behind the skyline. “While he was taking the picture, my right knees succumbed to gravity & to be honest I don’t remember what I said to her,” Benson recalls. “I do remember her saying ‘Benson not here’, ‘Benson not here’. Who says that? I had to ask, ‘is that a yes?’ which she did confirm eventually.”

“Make sure you enjoy your day. Things will come your way that day but the best thing to do is to ‘fly high’ and enjoy the day. Dance, eat, welcome your guests, smile, and laugh. Deal with whatever issues arise later.” -Oby In the midst of planning their wedding, the couple selected only a day coordinator and decided on taking up the challenge of having almost all of the planning done by them. “We chose different tasks based on our strengths, as we are both creative people,” said Oby. They did however encounter some obstacles, mostly with how to handle the guestlist. The bride wanted a big wedding but the groom wanted a very small wedding limited to just family. “We eventually made it work by meeting in the middle and having a set number of guests on each side,” said Oby. Envisioning a classic, yet modern majestic ambience for their wedding day, the couple held their nuptials at the historic Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Maplewood, N.J. on August 8, 2009. Going along with the contemporary regal wedding theme, the two opted for a color palette fit for royalty; integrating wine, melon and champagne colors into the overall design. Once the two exchanged vows, guests made their way to the Marriot Newark International Airport Hotel where family and friends gathered around and enjoyed yet another ceremony. “One thing that was important to us was incorporating our Igbo heritage into our day,” said Oby. “We integrated our traditional marriage ceremony, typically a separate event, into our reception.” Spring/Summer.2010 www.munaluchibridal.com

Real Weddings After guests enjoyed their royal feast, the dance floor opened up to an up-tempo festive Nigerian party that had everyone on their feet all night. Planning a wedding mainly without a planner may have had its challenges, but with the couple’s creativity and support of one another, family and friends, the pair achieved their monarchial vision that will be remembered for a lifetime. orn and raised in Germany and of Nigerian descent, Eva Sonaike found it easy to fuse the best elements of her two cultures into her designs. She obtained a degree in Journalism at the London College of Printing before working as a TV producer/director for the cult youth and travel program “urbanation”, where she reported on trends from London, Paris and New York.

188

In 2003 she became a deputy editor of the fashion magazine BOLZ, while successfully freelancing as trend reporter, fashion consultant and interior stylist for clients such as Rubecksen Yamanaka, Firorosimo, Fashion Information, Noise Festival and Spaces magazine. Eva acquired an MA in Fashion Journalism from the London College of Fashion in 2005 and specialized in contemporary African fashion and design. During that summer, she was commissioned by London’s arts festival Africa 2005 to develop and produce the fashion show Afro Chic ‘05, which was held in Kingsly Court on Carnaby Street. Later on, in 2006, she became UK Fashion Editor of Hubert Burda Media, which publishes German Elle, Instyle and Focus.

The inspiration for Eva’s cushions and accessories label came as a result of growing up surrounded by the colors and culture of African clothing in addition to the antique and retro furnishings of continental Europe. The combination has fostered a unique and distinctive style.

IKOYI Collection 2010 IKOYI consists of cushion crafted with vibrant wax cotton fabric, and combined with luxury velvet. They represent a mix of African style with the elegance of British understatement. “Inspired by the perfect mismatch of the attire of Nigerian women, the luxurious cushion range reflects the vibe of a Lagos street scene: market stalls with exotic fruit, animated traders in exaggerated head wraps, women shoppers in elegant robes and sleek western clothing, yellow buses squeezing through busy roads, hand-painted billboard, alongside palm trees and dusty lanes.” The IKOYI collection includes the Didara, Ewe, Orun, Wura, and Laba Laba. Each cushion is available in in three different sizes (50x50cm, 40x60cm and 60x60cm.) The cushions can be found in London’s most prestigious stores including Liberty, Fenwicks of Bond Street and Selfridges.

>On Your Mark, Get Set... I Gotta Get Married! A young lady’s tales of desperation and realization.

This article is dedicated, to all the non-married women, 27 and older here and abroad in search for their life partner. Your destined time for meeting and marrying your Prince Charming will happen and will be at the best time for you. Don’t bring misery into your life by believing you can turn any available guy into your prince all for the sake of having the word “Mrs.” in front of your last name before you turn 30!

I am not really sure how to start or how I want to write this. All I know, is that my experiences and choice of men during the last 3 years of my twenties had been so crazy and really comical that I feel compelled to write about it if only to make fun of the situation because I know that there are millions of women out there who have or are currently going thru the ordeal I went thru as we speak… My decline in judgment and quality in men probably started after my 27th birthday. It’s crazy, but when I was in my early twenties, I didn’t have a care or worry in the world if I would find a nice man to marry. In my college days, it always seemed like there was a plethora of guys to pick from on campus. I thought I had it all figured out. When the time was right, I’d get married by my 27th birthday; have my first kid by my 29th birthday and would be working on my 2nd and maybe 3rd by my 31st birthday. How simple and easy it seemed to me then. But it didn’t exactly work out like that. Around my 25 birthday, I ended my 6 year relationship with my college sweetheart. After being in a serious monogamous relationship, I just wanted to be single again. I even flirted with the possibility of starting a romance with someone new. My excitement for the “single life” lasted almost a year. Well, at least until my best friend got married. That time period became an interesting

one in my life. All of sudden I was always being asked “when are you getting married? Are you engaged? Why are you still single? All of a sudden, being single wasn’t the coolest thing anymore. I was now approaching my 26th birthday and the urgency to find someone who I could marry and live happily ever after with, would become my highest priority. Every guy that I would date became a potential husband. After a month of dating, I already started planning my wedding in my head. I turned into the “husband seeker”. Fortunately for me, none of those prospects ended in the way that I had hoped then. Within a 4 year span, I was involved in two serious relationships. When I think back to those relationships, I realize how poor my judgment in character was; and quite frankly

how desperate I allowed myself to become. I subjected myself to a lot of pain and heartache just because I wanted to be a married woman. The first relationship was a complete waste of time and money. The guy that I was seeing lived on the West coast while I lived on the east coast. Why I thought it would work was beyond me. Other than the fact that he wasn’t the most attractive guy in the world, he was extremely boring, a sexual prude and to top it off, broke but faked like he was a baller. After 2 years of only seeing each other once every 6 months with me always flying out to see him, I ended the relationship. Three months later, I started a new romance with a guy I had known for a couple of years. Our families were very close. He even at one point referred to dad as his God father. My new beau was everything I thought I wanted. Attractive, Tall, educated with an established career. To top it off, he had the same ethnic background as me, which is Nigerian. I thought I hit the jackpot with this guy. However I knew he had a history with women. I was even warned about staying away from him. He was known for being a player; going with 3 women at the same time at one point. Still, I was arrogant and believed that he wouldn’t do such things to me. After all, I had the pedigree. To most, I was considered very attractive; I was educated, had a great career and came from a good family. So in my mind what reason would any man have to cheat on me? At least that is what I believed. So, my relationship with the new guy went on and I must admit I was on cloud 9. He was charming and funny and I was happy. Somewhere around the 5th month of us dating, I started to feel a little suspicious of him. We knew a lot of the same people and like I mentioned before, he was a family friend so he decided that it would be best for us to keep our relationship a secret. I agreed. However, I was never comfortable with the secret lover thing. I was happy and wanted the world to know who made me feel this way. But because I was afraid of losing him, I kept quiet. So, it’s no surprise that I started to get suspicious of him. To no surprise to everyone (except me), my guy was up to his old tricks. Rumors started to spread that my beau was sleeping with a friend of mine. I ignored it and brushed it off as lies and the world not

being happy for me. Why, because I couldn’t see pass what I wanted. Marriage!! The relationship continued and my insecurity and fear about our relationship grew stronger. Fear consumed me and didn’t allow me to use my better judgment. Exactly a year and half into our relationship, he broke up with me on Christmas day. It was over. Just like that. To justify his action, he pointed out every stupid and minor flaw in me. And when I say minor and stupid, it was stuff like you wear high heels, you wear strapless dresses. But his biggest complaint with me was the fact that I couldn’t keep a secret. When I asked him what secret of his did I not keep, can you believe this dude said the secret was that I told my best friends that him and I were dating? I just felt numb and lower than dirt as he went on and on about my flaws and why I just wasn’t the woman for him. It was the most painful thing ever. He was so cold and showed no compassion. I felt betrayed. I had compromised who I was, damaged friendships, lied to friends and even family members about our involvement and even worse, and overlooked his cheating ways. From that moment onward, I vowed to never ever allow myself to become so desperate that I would compromise my self worth because of any man. I decided that I was no longer going to allow fear to rule or dictate my life and quest for true love and happiness. I had to also tell myself and believe that I had options. Which in fact, I did. Whenever a woman allows herself to believe she has no options with men after the age of 27, it’s unbelievable as to the kind of man she ends up settling for. For a year and a half, I allowed my ex to manipulate my mind and control me. This is exactly what happens when you give a man that much power over you. After a month of crying and listening to every depressing love song album, I finally picked myself up dared say “I will try again”. He was not the end all be all. I must admit my uncle played a key role in helping me realize this truth. To be honest, he broke it down for me when I was going thru my ordeal. “That guy was never serious about you or even marriage… He just wanted to have fun with you”. These were his exact words. It was a cold reality but I had to come to grips with this

“ I decided that I was no longer going to allow fear to rule or dictate my life and quest for true love and happiness.”

truth. I allowed myself to become his play thing. I had to take ownership and partial blame for this happening to me. Having realize my mistakes and believing that there still someone special out there for me, I decided to just have fun and not worry a b o u t what people would say about me or the things that I have no control over. This was one of the best time periods of my life. I was approaching my 31st birthday enjoying myself. I went to the gym faithfully from Monday thru Friday and then partied with my girlfriends over the weekend. I also decided to get closer to God. I prayed a lot more and started to go to church more often. When it came to me dating again, rather than going out into NYC to prowl, I simply went thru my roller deck with the phone numbers of men who had in the past asked me out but I turned down because I was in a monogamous relationship and was working on possibly becoming a wife. It was flattering at the same time empowering to know the options I had. I also decided to be open minded. To a certain degree as black women especially living in NYC, where the dating ratio is 1 guy to every 10 women, you have to be open minded. I became open to idea of not only dating Nigerian men, but Senegalese, Jamaican, Trinidadian and even Caucasian. As long as they respected me and tried their best to please me and make me happy. That became the most important thing to me. So I began dating again. It was so much fun. I was so confident it became intoxicating. I also made it a point not to make my dating with men sexual until some time has elapsed, he had proven himself worthy and if he was willing to commit to a serious, monogamous relationship. Guess what ladies, it worked! I had the control and the power. Since then, I met a guy who I’ve been dating for over a year now. It’s been drama free and for the most part easy. We both love and respect each other greatly. He has taught me a lot along the way and I have taught him a lot as well. He is tolerant of my flaws as I am of his. He loves that I am 6’1 and still wear the highest heels. He encourages me to wear strapless dresses because I have beautiful shoulders. We even attend church together. All in all, he is accepting of who I am. I didn’t have to conform to a standard of a woman that society and in my case, Nigerian society, has dictated for far too long. If you happen to find yourself single after the age of 27, there is nothing wrong with it. You just haven’t met him yet. I’ve grown to believe that true happiness begins with loving and being true to you. True love and happiness with someone else can happen at any age. Personally, I believe there is nothing and I mean absolutely nothing that is too great of a problem that God can not help you solve. That is my belief and my faith. I think in order to find this true happiness with oneself you need to develop a belief system of your own that will help you get thru the toughest of times. So to all my matured sister (27 and older) who have never been married relax and enjoy being single. Have fun and live life.

“Open your hearts and minds to the possibilities of love from any ethnicity.”

Open your hearts and minds to the possibilities of love from any ethnicity. Eat healthy and take care of yourself mentally and physical. When you do become that “wife”, you can at least say, you had a blast when you were single. Remember this “marriage “thing that we kill ourselves to attain, has its challenges too. As does any relationship. Imagine going through such challenges with a guy you don’t like or one whom doesn’t respect you but you settled because you thought you had no option. If the marriage you so desperately worked to get ends in divorce, the people who taunted you about getting married will only say sorry. I believe that there is someone special for everybody and that God’s time is the best. You should too. Uwa Mercy Aghedo

>7 Tips to Great Engagement Photos

These pointers will ensure you get memorable engagement pics

Time of day Natural light works best. When sun is directly overhead (10am-3pm), photos tend to be harsh and unflattering shadows are created. Choose a morning session for cool tones and late afternoon for a warmer and softer look. Wardrobe Don’t get into the habit of being too matchy, but instead, coordinate colors. Bring several outfits and ask the photographer to help you choose which outfits will look best in the photos. Stay away from khakis, they usually don’t photograph well. Women-bring flip flops! These sessions can be very long and may require lots of walking. Location, Location, Location Location is key! Choose a location that means something to both of you. Perhaps where you had your first date or a favorite coffee shop. If you can’t think of a good location, ask your photographer for suggestions.

Makeup Use matte makeup to eliminate shine. Make sure to bring oil blotting tissues to touch up during the session. A shiny face does not make for great photos! Themes Scenarios are great for camera-shy couples. Think outside of the box. What type of activities do you love to do together? What’s your style? Music lovers may opt for a music themed shoot, including favorite instruments. Coffee lovers may plan a date to their favorite coffee shop. How about a beach adventure? Or a vintage style session including vintage clothing and vintage furniture. Be creative and use your imagination. If you’re not the creative type, just ask your photographer to create one based on your personalities. Get Trashed Just like a “Trash the Dress” session. Examples include a photosession in the rain. Or during a beach adventure, jump into the ocean for a swim. Some adventurous couples may even opt for a food fight after a picnic-themed shoot. Have Fun Loosen up and get there early. Show your personality. Remember to channel your inner “mushy” side by sharing lots of hugs and kisses. Remember, these pics are for you.

How do you make two into one like nothing else on earth?
