Dear Regent Center Members,

First and foremost, I want to take a moment to extend our deepest gratitude to Marissa Moravec for her dedicated years of service to the District and, most importantly, to our active adult and senior communities. Marissa’s passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact, and we are truly thankful for the wonderful programs and events she brought to life at the Regent Center. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and know she will continue to make a positive difference in the Mundelein community.

I want to assure you that the programs and activities you know and love at the Regent Center will continue without interruption. You may notice some new faces around the Center; please say “hi” and introduce yourself. Our staff is excited and committed to maintaining the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that makes the Regent Center so special.

Lastly, your feedback is incredibly important to us as we look ahead to future opportunities. We want to hear from you! A survey will be sent out - electronically, and in paper form at the Regent Center, the first week of February so you can share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Your input will help us shape programs and activities that best meet your interests and needs.

We Need You!

We need volunteers to assist with lunch events or leading groups.

The Children’s Blizzard by Melanine Benjamin

The morning of January 12, 1888, was unusually mild, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again, and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats—leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day, a terrifying, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as sixteen were suddenly faced with life and death decisions: Keep the children inside, to risk freezing to death when fuel ran out, or send them home, praying they wouldn’t get lost in the storm?

2025 Schedule

March: The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

April: The 57 Bus: A Trust Story of Crime That Changed Their Lives by Daska Slater

May: Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen

June: Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward

Based on actual oral histories of survivors, this gripping novel follows the stories of Raina and Gerda Olsen, two sisters, both schoolteachers—one becomes a hero of the storm and the other finds herself ostracized in the aftermath. It’s also the story of Anette Pedersen, a servant girl whose miraculous survival serves as a turning point in her life and touches the heart of Gavin Woodson, a newspaperman seeking redemption.
