Hispano-Suiza Carmen MY19

Page 1

The rebirth of an iconic Spanish brand Hispano Suiza Fábrica de Automóviles S.A. was originally established in Barcelona in 1904 by my great-grandfather Damián Mateu. In doing so, joined by racer and engineering partner Marc Birkigt, he created what would become an iconic Spanish brand. My grandfather, Miguel Mateu later took control of the company, continuing the production of prestigious, top-of-the-range cars. After his death, his daughter Carmen Mateu – my mother – was named President. She continued her father’s work, keeping the essence of the brand alive through events, exhibitions, rallies and conferences, plus book and magazine publication. From 1904 to 1946, Hispano Suiza created a series of luxury performance cars. Beautiful to behold, exceptionally advanced, and effortless to drive, they were recognised as benchmarks for the maturing car industry. Repeated success in motor racing and endurance events around the world cemented the company’s reputation. In total, four generations of the Suqué Mateu family have preserved this historic name. More than 70 years since we built our last car, it is my pleasure to once again present Hispano Suiza to the world, reborn in 2019. Today, our new vehicle, the Hispano Suiza Carmen embodies the same unique Spanish spirit that saw the brand’s early cars recognised as among ‘the best in the world’. Designed, developed and crafted in Barcelona, our new grand tourer brings with it a similar devotion to painstaking craftsmanship and meticulous technical detail. Timeless in its design, yet resolutely forward-looking in its execution, the Hispano Suiza Carmen is the realisation of my life-long ambition – the resurgence of an iconic Spanish brand.
