Based on extensive analysis of environmental sensitivity, culture, finances, and visitor needs, Mundus Bishop’s ambitious master plan for Plains Conservation Center (PCC) envisions the center as a premier destination to promote lifelong learning and resource conservation for 1,100 acres of nationally significant shortgrass prairie.

Design for this 14-acre open space and park transforms an underutilized city property and primary floodway into the community’s central gathering space, defines a campus of city functions, and integrates a regional floodplain—Greenwood Gulch—as an ecologically sustainable environment.

The monumental transformation of Denver Art Museum’s campus re-establishes the museum as the city’s cultural hub. The new, resilient site is the key urban link between downtown Denver, its cultural institutions, and city neighborhoods—connecting Denver’s Civic Center and cultural and public buildings, including Denver’s Central Library, Clyfford Still Museum, and the City & County Building.

CITY PARK MASTER PLAN & PLAY

From master plan and design guidelines to conceptual design and construction documentation, Mundus Bishop has helped guide the vision, preservation, and improvement of City Park that builds upon its 120-year legacy. Inclusive and accessible for all, a variety of scaled towers, slides, and climbing features—including a sculptural dragon—encourages play for all ages and abilities.

DENVER BOTANIC GARDENS

Denver, CO

Transformation of the Denver Botanic Gardens converted 24-acres of aging urban public gardens into a cohesive and resilient campus. Garden experiences were expanded and enriched through the re-purposing of spaces, materials, and features, and by integrating new green, sustainable practices and multiple gardens. Mundus Bishop’s work included the campus and streetscape design as well as design of nine new gardens.

ALLUVIAL FAN TRAIL

Estes Park, CO

Working closely with Rocky Mountain National Park’s in-house trail crew, Mundus Bishop addressed previous flood damage and accessibility improvements with a trail design that re-establishes one of the most popular attractions at Rocky Mountain National Park. Designed to be fully accessible, the Alluvial Fan area meets federal ABA guidelines and is a designated Outdoor Recreation Accessibility Route.

UPPER FORT MASON MASTER PLAN

Mundus Bishop is currently working with Golden Gate National Recreation Area on a plan for Fort Mason to guide management and improvement, including multi-use trails with high volumes of commuter, recreational, and tourist travel, accessible trails and walks, and sustainable landscape management practices.
