Prima di tutto sentiamo l’esigenza di sposare un’Idea, una forma, e per ottenere dei risultati dobbiamo primo o poi innamorarci del progetto. Poi dobbiamo desiderare di possedere quell’oggetto in primis per noi. Il successo? Così lo raggiungiamo sempre e quando accade sui mercati moltiplica il nostro piacere. I nostri prodotti non sono solo disegnati in Italia o fatti in Italia, sono in primis AMATI IN ITALIA. Questo marchio sintetizza il modo in cui interpretiamo il nostro lavoro ed è la parte più vera e importante dei nostri articoli.

A Studio of Ideas and Passions. This is briefly what we are and this is the way we design, conceive and live our products; everything in our Italian home base. First of all we feel the need to support an Idea or a shape and then we have to fall in love first with the project. Then we must imagine owning that specific object especially for ourselves. What about the success? Thanks to this premise, we are always able to get it and when it happens in markets this enhances our satisfaction. Our products are not only designed in Italy or realised in Italy, but they are first and foremost LOVED IN ITALY. This brand synthetizes the way we conceive our work and represents the truest and most important aspect of our items.

Foodesign esprime un vero e proprio modo di reinterpretare la tavola quotidiana attraverso un uso giornaliero di oggetti raffinati che saremmo soliti utilizzare solo per le grandi occasioni. Il nostro design nasce dal prodotto alimentare, dal desiderio di vederlo utilizzato in un determinato modo. Come per i poeti Ă¨ necessario avere una fonte di ispirazione, cosĂŹ per il design Ă¨ necessario avere derio di mangiarlo con un nostro oggetto.

Foodesign expresses a true way to reinterpret the everyday table through daily use of refined objects that we would generally use only on special occasions. Our design comes from the foodstuff and from the desire to see it used in a certain way. As poets need to have a source of inspiration, in the same way the design needs to have an intuition. Our Muse is food as our desire is to eat it with one of our objects.

Colors of Italy Questa collezione nasce dalla nostra voglia di far conoscere la bellezza delle regioni italiane… le architetture, i colori, i paesaggi, immaginando questo a contatto con i fantastici piatti tipici. E’ stato difficile riassumere tutto ciò da un punto di vista concettuale così come la realizzazione del prodotto da un punto di vista tecnico. Ogni colore sintetizza una regione o una città, ogni pezzo rappresenta un bassorilievo, un elemento topico delle architetture, così come l’effetto invecchiato è simbolico di tradizione e storia. We conceived this collection thanks to our wish to spread the beauty of our Italian regions… their architectures, colors and landscapes imagined as they are in contact with amazing traditional cuisine. It was difficult concentrating all these aspects into one concept as well as their technical production. Each color summarizes a region or a city, each piece represents a low relief, a typical architectural element as well as the old-style effect is a symbol of tradition and history.

Colors of Italy/Blu Venezia/Venice blue San Marco e il Loggiato sono impressi in bassorilievo e possono essere lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;elemento che contraddistingue Venezia emergendo da uno speciale mix architettonico tra Oriente e Occidente. La laguna, il blu delle giornate serene, unâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;acqua sempre presente e che caratterizza tutto di Venezia: lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;origine, la ricchezza e la sua immortale decadenza. Canocchie della laguna sbollentate e maionese fatta in casa, lo scenario migliore che vediamo per questo piatto.

San Marco and its lodge are embossed in low relief and represent the element featuring Venice, standing out from a special architectural blend between Western and Eastern styles. Its Lagoon, the blue of its clear daytimes, its omnipresent water that portrays everything about Venice: its origin, its richness and its immortal decadence. Blanched Squilla mantis from the Lagoon and home-made mayo, the best possible scenario we see for this plate.

Colors of Italy/Verde Toscana/Tuscany green Il paesaggio toscano è unico al mondo ma unico anche tra le regioni italiane, il verde delle sue colline il colore che lo contraddistingue. La storia e il Rinascimento, di cui abbiamo rappresentato il Giglio – simbolo della famiglia De’ Medici – è tradotto in un intricato germogliare … di idee, spunti e pensieri che in modo capillare hanno contaminato e avvolto il mondo intero. Pane fresco e pecorino di Pienza con miele di acacia; su questo verde e possibilmente in loco toscano è il nostro desiderio.

The Tuscan landscape is unique in the world but also among the other Italian regions: the green of its hills makes it unique. History and Renaissance, the period of De’ Medici family represented by the Lilium are put symbolically by a tangled blossoming…of ideas, hints and thoughts that influenced and involved the whole world in its smallest aspects. Fresh bread and Pienza pecorino with acacia honey; our wish is having them on this green, possibly in a Tuscan place.

Colors of Italy/Arancio Sicilia/Sicily orange Fra tutti l’arancio è il colore che simboleggia al meglio una terra in realtà multicolore per storia e tradizioni. Gli aranceti però sono sempre lì da centinaia di anni, colorano le valli e ne esprimono la forza millenaria. Il sole poi ... una grande arancia prima del tramonto. E poi indelebile e marcata la cultura araba, normanna, greca, che con i nostri bassorilievi abbiamo tentato di sintetizzare, così come tutte insieme a volte, si mescolano in edifici, mosaici, abitazioni e chiese. La cassata siciliana con arance e cedri canditi è la pietanza immaginata su questo articolo.

Among all the existing colors orange personifies at best a land really being multicolor by history and traditions. The orange groves are still there since many years, color the valleys and convey their thousand-year old strength. Then the sun…a big orange before the sunset. Not to mention the Arabian, Norman and Greek cultures with thair lasting and pronounced presence that we tried to sum up with our low reliefs as they sometimes blend all together on buildings, mosaics, houses and churches. Sicilian cassata dessert with candied oranges and cedars is the dish visualized on this item.

Colors of Italy/Rosso Pompei/Pompeian red Il colore Ă¨ un rosso speciale, veramente tipico delle domus di Pompei che in Italia definiamo usualmente con rosso pompeiano, realizzato ai tempi con pigmenti provenienti da Sinope, antica cittĂ sul Mar Nero. La greca impressa, cosĂŹ come la lira, rimandano allo sfarzo e a una dolce vita perdute. Un bianco filetto di spigola con olio extra vergine di oliva e un quarto di limone di Sorrento.

This color is a special red, typical of the domus in Pompeii that in Italy is usually called Pompeian red. At that time it was obtained from colors coming from Sinope, an ancient city overlooking the Black Sea. The embossed Greek element, as well as the lira, remind a lost splendor and a good lifestyle. A white sea bass filet with extra virgin olive oil and a quarter of lemon from Sorrento is the right dish for this plate.

Behind the scenes

Per lo sviluppo di questa linea sono stati necessari circa due anni. Due le difficoltà maggiori: sintetizzare una regione o una città italiana e poi rappresentarli in un piatto, come fare? Abbiamo deciso che questo doveva essere fatto con due elementi: il colore e una incisione, il primo a rappresentare il paesaggio e il secondo la sintesi di architettura e storia. Dopo questo passaggio forse la cosa più difficile è stata mettersi d’accordo su quale colore e quale simbologia, in effetti le città e regioni italiane sono un groviglio di tante cose e ognuno aveva la sua idea .. Prima ancora il dibattito su quali dovevano essere le prime regioni da rappresentare!! Diciamo una sorta di dibattito politico più che di design in un Paese dove si concentra un enorme patrimonio storico, artistico e culturale. Trovato l’accordo sulla progettazione siamo passati alla fase produttiva. Forse sarebbe stato difficile concepire un piatto più complicato: l’effetto anticatura del bordo, niente grafica ma incisioni, colore che si sfuma e non omogeneo, effetto brillante dato da una leggera martellatura .. e poi il colore. Anzi, quei specifici colori. Se per il rosso pompeiano gli antichi Romani andavano a prendere gli ossidi di ferro nel Mar Nero, ci sarà stato un motivo, no? … un andi-rivieni di prototipi e messe a punto in fabbrica ma ci siamo riusciti! Conosciamo e amiamo luoghi e regioni d’Italia e vederli rappresentati in un piatto come fossero scolpiti e dipinti ci rende orgogliosi del risultato. Pensiamo che divulgare attraverso un elemento di uso comune significati ben precisi possa essere anche un modo per far conoscere meglio le nostre regioni o comunque destare curiosità e desiderio di approfondire la conoscenza su tante persone. Tante persone che possono comunque con i nostri oggetti e nel quotidiano vivere un’esperienza e sentirsi in un certo modo in Italia, in uno specifico posto e regione.

The development of this collection needed two years or so. During this process we faced two main difficulties: reproducing an Italian region or a city, but how to do it on a plate? We decided that we had to use two elements: color and an engraving to represent respectively the landscape and the synthesis between architecture and history. Besides this first step, maybe the hardest thing was agreeing the colour and symbols we should have used, because the Italian cities and regions are a tangle of several aspects and everybody had his own idea… Even before a debate about which regions had to be depicted at the very beginning! It was a sort of politic rather than design debate in a country with a concentration of a huge historical, artistic and cultural heritage. Once we agreed on the project, we moved to the production step. It would maybe have been hard conceiving a more complex plate: an old-style effect on the edge, no graphics but only engravings, not non-homogenous but shading color, bright effect given by a light hammering…and then color, or better, those specific colors. If the Ancient Romans have reached Black Sea to take the iron oxides to create the Pompeian Red, there was for sure a good reason, isn’t it? … A continuous flow of going and coming prototypes as well as the production in the factory but we got it! We know and love the Italian places and regions, but we also feel proud when we see them represented on a plate as a sculpture or painting. We think that spreading specific qualities through a common-use element can also be a way to popularize our regions or – however - arouse the curiosity or the wish to deepen the knowledge on most people. Many people who can anyway live an experience and feel in a certain way to be in Italy, in a specific place and region.

Sfera Partire dalla sfera e realizzare una collezione per la tavola perfetta. Il piatto Sfera nasce da questo concetto ed è una sfera che viene tagliata nella parte bassa del piatto per ottenere varie capacità, dal dinner dove il taglio è quasi totale alla bowl dove la sfera è quasi intera. Con la parte superiore si completa da un punto di vista estetico ma questo secondo elemento firma il tutto anche nell’uso. La pietanza viene racchiusa mantenendosi calda o comunque viene protetta da ogni possibile contaminazione esterna dopo la sua preparazione. Poi si trasforma in una pratica bowl con un utilizzo molteplice che va dall’essere un contenitore per i residui a oggetto complementare al piatto per pane, salse, condimenti. Sfera diventa così un nuovo concept di piatto dove si combinano l’elemento estetico, la sorpresa, la scenografia nell’aprire uno scrigno di piacere combinato al doppio uso del suo prezioso coperchio, la sfera completa. Le tazze sono perfettamente sovrapponibili e si combinano al piatto Sfera per design e concept d’uso. Sfera, the Italian name for “Sphere”, represents our starting point to realize a collection for a perfect table. Sfera plate comes from this concept and it is a sphere whose bottom side is cut to have different capacities for dinner plate – when it is almost totally cut - but also as a soup plate and large bowl - when the sphere is quite entire. From an aesthetic point of view its upper part completes the set; this second element also represents the final component for an all-round use. The food is kept warm but also protected from any external contamination after its preparation. Then it turns into a practical bowl with a multiple use to be exploited in various ways, from being a container for the leftovers to an additional object to be combined with the main plate for bread, sauce and any other seasoning. Sfera symbolises therefore a new plate concept with a harmonious union of the aesthetic element, the surprise and the scenic effect by opening a pleasure chest combined with the double use of its precious cover: the complete sphere. Cups can be stacked one on another and perfectly match with Sfera plate in terms of design and use.

Sfera/Bianco&nero/Black&white 36

Bianco e nero: il dualismo perfetto ricco di simbolismo sin dai tempi antichi che nella variante di questa collezione assume un’eleganza e una classe uniche. Il bianco, simbolo di luce, vita e purezza, è in combinazione con il suo opposto cromatico. Il nero è il colore del buio e del mistero. La combinazione di questi due elementi visibilmente e simbolicamente a contrasto creano un’unione ad alto impatto visivo, dove la superficie lucida della bowl nera si distingue cromaticamente in modo netto e deciso sulla base limpida e pura della porcellana bianca che accoglie la semisfera raggiungendo la perfezione geometrica e la massima praticità. La bowl nera infatti si sposa idealmente con la semisfera sottostante dove il nero difende simbolicamente il suo opposto, mantenendo i cibi caldi e prevenendone la contaminazione da fattori esterni.

Black and white: a perfect dualism rich in symbolism and dating back to ancient times that in this version gets a unique elegance and style. White, symbol of light, life and purity, is combined with its opposite color: indeed black is the color of darkness and mistery. The visible and symbolic combination in a clear contrast creates a notable visual effect: the shiny surface of the black bowl stands out in terms of colors in a strong and clear way on the pure and limpid base of white porcelain that hosts the half sphere, reaching the geometrical perfection and the best functionality. The black bowl ideally joins the lower half sphere where black symbolically protects its opposite keeping your dishes warm and avoiding any contamination from external agents.

Sfera/Bianco&rosso/Red&White Per questa variante abbiamo scelto un’altra soluzione di colore che richiama sempre il contrasto ottico di due tonalità che si sposano bene tra loro e che nascondono dei significati reconditi legati prettamente alla loro importanza. Il bianco, simbolo di spiritualità e divinità, si unisce idealmente al rosso che, per antonomasia, rappresenta tutto quello che è vita e calore rievocando il rosso del sangue che pulsa nelle vene riempiendo il cuore del sentimento dell’amore e il rosso delle fiamme del fuoco che raccoglie intorno a sé le persone care e, al tempo stesso, la passione e il desiderio. Analogamente, la bowl rossa può essere usata come componente “peccaminosa” e quindi indipendente, oppure a stretto contatto con il piatto, il suo opposto dallo spirito puro e intonso.

We chose another different color solution for this version, always featuring the optic contrast of two colors that can be combined and hide secret senses linked merely to their importance. White, symbol of spirituality and goddess, ideally combines with red that, par excellence, represents life and warmth, reminding the red of blood pulsating in our veins and filling up our heart with the feeling of love. Not to mention the red fire flames that gather beloved people together and, at the same time, represents passion and desire. In the same way, the red bowl can be used as well like a “sinful” component and independent element, or in a tight contact with the plate, its opposite part with a pure and untouched spirit.

Made in porcelain, it wants to be a kind of magic casket and an element that surprise for aesthetics and usefulness on the table.

It will be a surprise the mise en table and then a surprise the dish opening being able to use the upper part as an additional bowl that can contain the clams shells and can serve for additional sauces or toasted bread.

Realizzare una collezione perfetta. Cosa c’è di più perfetto di una sfera? Ecco, queste parole sono state all’origine e averle pronunciate forse un colpo di fortuna. Infatti è la sfera che ci ha guidati in tutto e per tutto in questo progetto, divisa a metà, poi tolto un pezzo, poi allargata e resa disco … un gioco geometrico facile e l’intuizione di non perdere nulla della sfera ma riaccoppiarla sopra ottenendo un nuovo set, un nuovo oggetto degno di brevetto industriale. La prima realizzazione decisamente difficile. “La bowl deve essere leggera per poi poterla utilizzare bene .. non deve avere la parte superiore senza colore .. ma come la si appoggia nel forno?” Da qui un oggetto realizzato completamente in porcellana al magnesio, bianchissima e di una leggerezza unica, anche la metà di una normale porcellana. Per il processo di cottura ogni pezzo viene posizionato in forno - dove si raggiunge una sorta di punto di fusione a circa 1.300 °C – avvolto e sostenuto da una sorta di involucro realizzato con materiali speciali e viene utilizzato solo poche volte. Stesse complicazioni e accortezze per le fasi di colatura e asciugatura. Ma ecco spuntare i primi prototipi di Sfera .. perfetti come la sfera!

Creating a perfect collection. What’s more perfect than a sphere? Well, these words have been at the beginning and having pronounced them was maybe a stroke of luck. In fact, it’s the sphere itself that drove us in all steps of this project, divided in half, then with a piece removed then enlarged and made a disc .. an easy geometric game and the intuition not to lose anything of the sphere but coupling it again on the top so to get a new set, a new item deserving an industrial patent. The first production was really difficult. “The bowl must be light to be used well .. its upper part does not have to be colorless .. but how can it be placed into the oven?” From here an item entirely made of magnesium porcelain, extremely white and having a unique lightness, even half than a normal porcelain. For the firing process each piece is placed into a kiln – where a sort of fusion point is reached at about 1,300 °C – wrapped and hold up in a sort of shell made of special materials that is used only a few times. Same difficulties and shrewdness for the phases of dripping and drying. But the early prototypes of Sfera finally appear … perfect like a sphere!

Origine Entrando in un laboratorio si è colpiti nel vedere l’oggetto finito, perfetto, prima delle fasi di cottura e finitura. La materia prima sia essa stoneware, porcellana o argilla è bellissima al naturale, verrebbe voglia di utilizzare l’oggetto in quello stato, crudo, senza trattamenti. Non si può, deve essere comunque cotto e trattato con delle vernici, siano esse anche trasparenti, per consentire un uso alimentare privo di porosità o cessioni di sostanze. Ma in origine? In origine non venivano utilizzati elementi di protezione, l’oggetto veniva cotto così com’era e semmai verniciato semplicemente e questo per un fattore estetico. La nostra collezione Origine è tutto questo, un salto agli albori ma con l’impiego di tecnologie avanzatissime. L’oggetto subisce processi di cottura a temperature molto alte e prolungate. Se lo standard per la migliore porcellana è di un solo passaggio in forno a 1.200/1.300 °C per 10/12 ore e questo dopo una semplice asciugatura del prodotto a 60/70°C, Origine viene cotta una prima volta a 800°C stazionando per 15/18 ore. Un secondo passaggio in forno avviene raggiungendo 1330°C per ulteriori 15/18 ore. Con questo processo, e utilizzando un materiale speciale, la porcellana ha un assorbimento di umidità inferiore allo 0.05%, una altissima densità e durezza. Il contatto diretto con il cibo è possibile con il superamento di tutti i più stringenti test. When accessing a workshop, one can be astonished by seeing the final, perfect product before it is fired and finished. The raw material, whether stoneware, porcelain or clay, is beautiful in its natural appearance and you would like to use object in that rough, unfired state, without any treatment. This is not possible though. It has to be fired and finished with varnishes, even if they are transparent, for a food purpose with no porosity or substance releases. But how was it in its origin (Italian name for “origine”)? Originally, no protection element was used; the product was fired as it was and, if ever, simply varnished just for an aesthetic effect. Our Origine collection this is: a jump into the dawning but using very advanced technologies. The product is fired at very high temperatures for long time. If the standard temperature for finest porcelain is about 1.200/1.300°C (2192/2372°F) for 10/12 hours and then just an easy drying at 60/70°C, Origine is fired one time at 800°C (1472°F), remaining inside the kiln from 15 to 18 hours. A second passage in the kiln happens reaching 1330°C (1426°F), for other 15/18 hours. Thanks to this process and using a special material porcelain loses its whole damp, its porosity, and direct contact with food is allowed by fulfilment of the strictest tests. The special material and technology - combined with primitive colors and shapes - give life to Origine, so to experience every day the sensation to go back to the past, back to the dawn, but in front of a fireplace, Brunello di Montalcino wine and exquisite food.

The proposed combination is always focused on the memory of past times but in this case thinking at the contemporary age enabling us to combine the different elements in various ways, according to the different shapes and colors that contrast each other. Behind the scenes

In genere non amiamo mai in prima battuta le tendenze, la prima barriera è sempre il voler dare una nostra interpretazione alle cose ed essere originali a modo nostro. Parlavamo della tendenza del “fatto a mano” da abbinare a forme di design essenziale. Quando abbiamo capito che ci potevamo mettere del nostro è scattato un vero colpo di fulmine: non fatto a mano e di design ma primitivo! In questo caso l’elemento principale è stato il materiale; riuscire a non vedere, dopo le varie fasi di produzione, differenze tra materia prima e oggetto finito. Tornare alle origini e da qui anche il nome della collezione. Poi tocchi di colore in modo semplice creando un gioco estetico con tinte ed effetti primitivi. Il risultato finale, vedendo i primi prototipi, è stata una sorpresa. Questa collezione non la si colloca in altro modo se non vicino a persone raffinate ... strano! Ma questo sembra essere venuto fuori da solo e in contrasto con una nostra normale attitudine a volere cose che siano multiuso e che si adattino a vari ambienti. Questa collezione proprio no. Come se, nei particolari processi di cottura, sia nato un UFO, un qualcosa con una genetica tutta sua, aliena.

We normally do not love trends at a first glance; the early barrier is always wanting to give things our own interpretation and being original in our way. We were talking about the “hand-made” tendency to be combined with shapes dating back to essential design. When we realised that we could add our personal contribution, it was love at first sight: not hand-made, design product, but primordial! In this case the main element was the material. After the various production steps we were not able to detect differences between raw material and finished product. Going back to origins and here also the collection name. Then color touches given simply creating an aesthetic play with tones and primordial effects. The final result, when we saw the early prototypes, was a real surprise. This collection can be associated only to refined people … strange, isn’t it? This aspect arose almost by itself and in contrast with our usual attitude to want multi-purpose objects suitable for various locations. This collection is out of this mind. It is like an UFO, something with an alien, independent genetics, was born during its particular firing steps.

Il colore vivace di questo piatto è un omaggio al simbolo dell’Italia all’estero: la 500, prodotta dalla principale casa automobilistica italiana, rappresenta il nostro paese in tutto il mondo. Secondo un’accezione più vasta, questo piatto ricorda tutto quello che rimanda alla “Dolce Vita” e al boom economico che diede il giusto slancio al “Bel Paese” per essere conosciuto anche oltralpe.

The vivid color of this plate is a tribute to the Italian symbol abroad: the 500, the car produced by the main Italian automotive company, represents our country all over the world. With another and wider meaning, this plate reminds all the aspects linked to our “Dolce Vita” and the economic boom that gave the right drive to be known even beyond the Alps.

Il Colosseo è l’emblema per antonomasia del Bel Paese che non solo rappresenta una nazione nel mondo, ma rievoca anche l’Impero Romano, con la sua evoluzione fino alla sua caduta finale. Il Colosseo non appare come si è abituati a vederlo, in una cartolina o una fotografia, ma si vuole togliere dall’iconografia classica e dai canoni tradizionali. Non a caso, anche il colore ricorda la tonalità base del mattone, il materiale da costruzione comune a tutti gli edifici di quel periodo.

The Colosseum is the symbol par excellence of Bel Paese that not only represents a country all over the world, but also reminds the Roman Empire with its evolution up to its final collapse. The Colosseum does not appear as we are used to see it, as in a postcard or picture, but we wanted to put it away from its classical iconography and traditional schemes. It is not a case if the color reminds the basic one of bricks, the building material widely used in that period for all edifices of that age.

La delicata tonalità di questo piatto richiama Giuseppe Verdi cui rende omaggio per aver composto l’inno dell’Italia. La decal riporta il volto del noto compositore italiano a tratti di china che contrasta con la tonalità inusuale del disco, nonostante il disco non sia affatto antico, ma molto moderno e contemporaneo.

The delicate tone of this plate recalls Giuseppe Verdi thanking him for having composed the Italian hymn. The decal has the famous Italian composer’s face with Indian ink drawing that contrasts with the unusual color of the disk, although the disc is not old at all, but it is very modern and contemporary.

Buongiorno Italia! E’ questa l’espressione che ci è venuta spontanea, associando il risveglio e il canto del gallo nelle verdi valli italiani. Lo stile, piuttosto originale, è un gioco di colori e simbolicamente abbiamo voluto trasferire questo animale dal cortile, e quindi da un contesto country, per farlo girare su un disco, dove può intonare il suo canto, come se fosse sulla cima di una collina.

Good morning, Italy! This is our spontaneous expression, associating the awakening and rooster’s noise in the green Italian hills. The original style is a play of colors and we wanted to move symbolically this animal from the courtyard, a rural context, to a disk where it can rotate and start singing as it would do on the top of a hill.

Lo stile di questo piatto ricorda lo stile italiano degli anni ’70, la Bella Italia e il periodo delle minigonne. Anche la decal riproduce il font dei gruppi di quel tempo e, in particolare, l’Italia avvolta dalla tendenza del Rock ‘n Roll. Il colore scuro crea un forte contrasto con i colori al centro del disco: il bianco del formaggio o della pasta, il rosso del pomodoro e il verde del basilico…il condimento tipico per un delizioso piatto di pasta, tanto amato da noi italiani!

The style of this plate recalls the Italian of 70’s, the Bella Italia and the period of miniskirts. The decal also reproduces the font of vintage groups and, especially, the Italy influenced by Rock ‘n Roll trend. The dark color creates a strong contrast with the other colors in the middle of the plate: white of cheese or pasta, red of tomatoes and green of basil…the typical dressing for a delicious pasta dish, that is so appreciated and loved by Italians!

Questo disco vuole associare simbolicamente la decal alla musica punk, creando un contrasto di colori. Il fondo scuro è una base perfetta per l’unione tra arte e scienza rappresentato dall’uomo vitruviano delineato con un leggero tratto bianco. This disk has the aim to associate symbolically the decal to punk music, creating a color contrast. The dark base is perfect for the union between art and science represented by Vitruvian man outlined by a light withe line. In addition to the symbolism, this disk gives its tribute to the great Italian master Leonardo Da Vinci and his artistic masterpieces.

Il design di questo piatto ha origine per rendere omaggio all’Italia meridionale, ricca di sapori e coltivazioni di prodotti basilari per la cucina. Lo stile rievoca l’estate italiana, dove i pomodori, abbinati ad altri ingredienti freschi costituiscono il fondamento della cucina leggera ma salubre italiana.

Questo disco dalla tonalità leggera e delicata contiene un omaggio ad una delle città più belle al mondo: Venezia. La sua laguna attraversata dai vari gondolieri di cui viene rappresentata la silhouette, suscita forte emozioni e sensazioni, tipiche della poesia e del romanticismo italiani.

This disk with a delicate and light tone has a tribute to one of most beautiful cities all over the world: Venice. Its lagoon, that is crossed by various gondoliers and whose silhouette is represented here, raises strong feelings and emotions which are typical of Italian poetry and Romanticism.

L’etichetta di questo piatto ricorda i primi dischi di musica classica e lirica che avevano una carta anticata. In verità, lo stile dell’etichetta e del disco stesso è tipico del vinile da grammofono. Il messaggio di questo piatto è un mero omaggio alla produzione del vino italiano, di alta qualità, invecchiato, come il Brunello di Montalcino, coltivato e prodotto nelle colline della Toscana. Di particolare rilievo, il “DELIRIUM TREMENS”, ovvero la condizione tipica di chi è in astinenza da alcol.

The label of this plate recalls the first disks of classic and lyric music having an old-looking label. Actually the style of disk and label is by itself typical of the gramophone disk. The message of this plate is a pure tribute to the Italian wine production, with its high-quality and aged flavour, like Brunello di Montalcino wine which is cultivated and made on the Tuscan hills. Highly notable is “DELIRIUM TREMENS”, i.e. the typical condition of people who are suffering from alcohol abstinence.

This plate has a vintage font with a psychedelic base reminding the typical cheerfulness of Italian people. It is a very ironic plate, as ironic is the way to use the font that was used in iconography of 70’s.

Vinile/Verde-Green–Tomatoes/Viola-Violet–Calabria Il design di questo piatto ha origine per rendere omaggio all’Italia meridionale, ricca di sapori e coltivazioni di prodotti basilari per la cucina. Lo stile rievoca l’estate italiana, dove i pomodori, abbinati ad altri ingredienti freschi costituiscono il fondamento della cucina leggera ma salubre italiana. Lo stile di questo piatto ricorda il Sound System degli anni ’80 ed è l’unico piatto della collezione che rimane fedele al suo stile e significato originari. L’idea è nata per rendere omaggio alla terra nativa di chi ha dato origine a questa e a tutte le altre collezioni: la nostra designer. Il peperoncino è l’emblema del sud Italia, dove questa specie cresce vigorosa garantendo un’abbondante raccolto. Da notare è l’effetto rovinato dell’etichetta che copia e rimanda alle etichette degli anni ’80.

The style of this plate recalls the Sound System of 80’s. This is the only plate of the entire collection being faithful to its original style and sense. The idea is to give tribute to the native land of the person who gave origin to this one as well as all the other collections: our designer. The chili pepper is the symbol of Southern Italy, where species grow vigorously and ensure a notable harvest. Please also note the worn out effect of the label that copies and reminds the labels of 80’s.

Behind the scenes

Il tema “creare un piatto unico che diventi un cult” era più assimilabile a un desiderio sfidando uno degli oggetti più difficili da innovare, il piatto. Se in una tazza, in un bicchiere o altro ci sono tanti elementi su cui lavorare, il piatto è sempre un rompicapo. Quindi il tempo trascorreva ma questo piatto innovativo, tale da diventare un “cult”, rimaneva foglio bianco .. semmai a volte riempito con i classici quadratini o asterischi con tante righe tipici di .. ci sto pensando con poca ambizione. Parlandoci sopra e ragionando sulla parola “cult” venne fuori una frase “il disco in vinile, quello sì che è un cult!”. Da quello spunto è nato il nostro piatto, le grafiche, i colori e soprattutto la volontà di volerlo trasformare in un vero piatto, un reale strumento di uso quotidiano. Da qui lo studio su profondità e numero di righe per contenere i liquidi e le enormi difficoltà per la produzione nel realizzare un piatto piatto. Poi tanta soddisfazione nel renderci conto che avevamo veramente inventato un piatto nuovo, davvero piatto, funzionale, con tanto di brevetto industriale.

The theme “creating a unique plate to become a cult” was more related to a hope facing one of the most difficult objects to be innovated, the plate. If a cup, a glass or other has many elements to be worked, plate is always a brain-teaser. So time passed but this plate to be innovative that much to become a “cult” kept remaining a white paper ... if ever sometimes filled with the usual little squares or asterisks with many lines typical of … I am thinking about but with little ambition. Talking about this and thinking about the word “cult” a sentence came out: “the vinyl record, that’s a real cult!”. From that starting point our plate, graphics and colors came to life and –above all - our will to transform it into a real plate, a true daily-use instrument. From there a research on depth and quantity of ridges to hold liquids and huge difficulties faced by production in making a flat plate. Then a lot of satisfaction in realizing that we had invented a true brandnew plate, really flat, functional and with a good industrial patent

L’elemento principale è la sua tazza, abbinata a una forma del piatto con un riuscito contrasto. L’armonia delle forme dei vari oggetti ha un elemento in comune, ogni pezzo non è la riproduzione in serie del primo ma ha una sua specifica forma e personalità componendo in tavole un’armonia insolita. Porcellana bianca e forme morbide, all’apparenza spontanee. Funzionalità ed estetica gli elementi che hanno forse segnato il successo di Ninfea.

Functional, with original shapes and their combination. It is difficult to describe in summary Ninfea collection. The main element is the cup, matched with a special shape of the saucer resulting in a successful combination. The harmony of the different elements has a common feature; each piece is not the series copy of the first element but has its specific shape and personality creates an unusual harmony on the table. White porcelain and smooth shapes that seem spontaneous. Functionality and aesthetics are the elements that maybe marked the success of Ninfea collection.

Behind the scenes

La tazza morbida, rotondeggiante ma con un manico che nasce spontaneamente dall’interno. Poi il piatto a goccia che, se visto separatamente, non sembra essere il suo, ma poi assieme un abbinamento unico. Questi due primi articoli hanno segnato tutta l’evoluzione e la nascita di altri elementi ognuno diverso ma giusto assieme. Questo ha generato forse il gradimento di Ninfea ma anche le enormi difficoltà nel suo sviluppo. Una collezione può essere fatta di elementi tutti diversi? In questo caso deve, infatti quella tazza diversa dal piatto ha richiesto altri elementi da abbinare in un equilibrio sottile e difficile da trovare. Prove, stampe, prototipi e scoprire come piccolissime differenze possono stravolgere tutto, soprattutto quando si parla di bianco di design. La soddisfazione nel vedere oggi una tavola completa di tutti gli elementi Ninfea è indescrivibile …lo sviluppo di altri oggetti sembra però un’impresa.

The smooth cup, with a roundish shape but having a grip arising spontaneously from the inner. Then the drop-shaped saucer that, if taken aside, does not seem belonging to the set even if they create together a unique combination. These two articles marked all the creation and the evolution of the other elements, each one different but appropriate when together. This was maybe the reason for Ninfea to obtain such a success, as well as the huge difficulties during its development. Can a collection be made of all different pieces? In this case, it must be. The cup different from its saucer required other elements to be combined in a light balance that was hard to find. After many tests, 3D printings, renders and prototypes, we discovered how even the littlest differences can upset everything, especially when dealing with white design. Our satisfaction in seeing today a table prepared with all Ninfea elements cannot be described … the development of other objects has been anyway a great challenge.

Tracce Le tracciature disegnano la porcellana bianca in una logica di marcato e sfumato, combinato alla forma della conchiglia, con il suo divenire da piccola a grande. Questi due elementi, più evidenti nel piatto fondo, caratterizzano l’intera collezione più o meno presenti seguendo l’aspetto di fondo tra essere evidenti e grandi o piccoli e celati. Queste forme prendono risalto soprattutto quando i prodotti sono abbinati con il cibo, emergono le particolarità del design ma non troppo, in quel momento è il cibo l’attore principale e il design lo evidenzia. Engravings outline the white porcelain in a logic play of marked and shading effect, combined with shell shape, when it is enlarged from small to large versions. These two elements, more visible on the soup plate, feature the whole collection and are more or less present following the basic aspect to be evident and large or hidden and small. These shapes stand out especially when the products are combined with food; design particularities appear in a good but discreet way. In that moment food becomes the main character and design points it out.

Spesso il nome della collezione viene attribuito durante lo sviluppo dei prodotti o dopo in molti casi. Il nome Tracce è invece l’elemento di inizio. Tracciare la porcellana bianca con decori, forme che però devono essere a metà tra visibili e non, grandi e piccole, marcate e sfumate. Il primo passo fu pensare a delle linee che da marcate diventavano impercettibili. Seguendo quale logica? Quando arrivò l’idea della spirale iniziammo a intravedere un prodotto davvero particolare. Produrlo poi, un rompicapo. Con la forma a conchiglia difficile risultava essere il bilanciamento del peso degli oggetti ed evitare deformazioni. Le tracciature più o meno marcate? Quanto marcate? Ancora oggi – in realtà - è un problema da risolvere completamente per le diversità a volte riscontrabili su produzione di massa e complicato da richieste e gusti dei clienti che a volte richiedono tracciature più o meno marcate, poi troppo, poi poco, in un andi-rivieni di campioni e prototipi.

The name of this collection is often associated to the development of products or, in many cases, even after it. The name Tracce (Italian name for “engravings”) is the starting element. Engraving white porcelain with décors and shapes that have to be visible and not visible, small and large, marked and shaded. The first step was thinking about marked lines that had to become imperceptible. Using which logic? When the idea of a spiral came to our mind, we did start to distinguish a particular product. A real dilemma its production. With its shell shape it was difficult balancing product weight and avoid possible deformation. What about the engravings? More or less engraved? Engraved how? Nowadays it represents actually a problem to be solved. We had to face many difficulties during its mass production made harder by personal requests and tastes of clients who sometimes require relatively engraved marks, then they are too much marked, then not enough … in a continuous flow of samples and prototypes.

Abbiniamo lo sviluppo di questa linea alla scelta fatta da una delle più importanti catene di supermercati italiani in quanto così è andata; l’introduzione di questo articolo in una collezione a premi di rilevanza nazionale ha di fatto contribuito allo sviluppo di questa linea, voluta in primis dal gradimento di numerose famiglie italiane. All’impronta decisa del colore si aggiunge un nero lavico, praticità e grande resistenza del materiale; uno stoneware robusto e con buone capacità isolanti ne fanno ancora oggi un articolo popolare e molto richiesto in Italia. A strong presence of color is combined with lava black, functionality and great material resistance. Solid stoneware with good isolating proprieties makes this article a popular and highly requested product in Italy even today.

Questo prodotto è stato realizzato con l’esigenza di andare incontro alle tendenze del colore, del “mix & match” a tavola, reinterpretandolo in modo deciso abbinando a colori forti e al limite del contrasto anche un nero di fondo per tutti. Questa linea così forte in realtà non ha avuto all’inizio un grande riscontro, anzi, diciamo pure, poco riscontro. Oggi è uno dei prodotti di maggior successo in Italia con circa sei milioni di pezzi prodotti e sulle tavole di tante famiglie italiane. Cosa è successo? Leghiamo lo sviluppo odierno di questa linea a un nostro cliente e gli riconosciamo una sorta di paternità. Infatti i primi articoli erano stati concepiti con tre colori e sono diventati sei per sua richiesta. Oltre al piatto tutti gli altri modelli sono seguiti al successo avuto con una prima collezione a premi. A quel tempo forti erano i dubbi sulla riuscita di un prodotto così caratteristico ma c’è stato un boom di richieste. Da lì e anche a seguito di una giusta esclusiva, di fatto altre forme sono state elaborate in collaborazione con il cliente, prima la presentazione di render foto-realistici del nuovo articolo e poi stampi in resina dei modelli che sono stati sempre discussi, modificati e migliorati nell’ufficio del cliente più che nel nostro studio.

This product has been realised to meet the color trends, the “mix & match” concept on your table readapting it in a remarkable perspective and combining intense colors with black as common base for all the pieces to create a supreme tone contrast. To be honest at the beginning this strong collection did not get a great acknowledgement. We can actually assess that it had low feedback. On the contrary, today this is one of our most appreciated items in Italy involving a production of about six million pieces that enriches the table of many Italian families. What happened? We link the current development of this collection to one of our clients and we acknowledge him a sort of authorship. As a matter of facts the early articles were created using three colors that have become six per his request. Besides plates, all the other models came after and thanks to the success got by a first redemption points catalogue. In that period we had many doubts regarding the success of such a particular product, but there was a boom in sales. From that moment we granted a proper exclusivity, since the other shapes were created with customer’s cooperation; at the beginning with photo-realistic renders of the new items, then with resin samples of the various shapes that have been discussed, amended or improved in client’s HQ rather than our lab.

Le finiture in oro sono state sempre un po’ problematiche per gli articoli da utilizzare quotidianamente in quanto spesso non adatte a microonde o lavastoviglie. Con il nuovo glazing questo aspetto è stato superato ma non volevamo perdere la caratteristica di un qualcosa di speciale, moderno ma che comunque avesse degli elementi che conferiscono pregio all’articolo. La base dei colori moderni e di tendenza è stata la prima preparazione per poi abbinare decori originali a ogni pezzo. Il risultato è una massima espressione di mix&match che rende ogni elemento speciale per ogni momento della giornata, dalla colazione al gelato alla cena di gala.

The gold finishing always have been a bit difficult for the tools daily used as they are often not suitable for microwaves or dishwashers. With the new glazing this issue has been exceeded but we did not want to loose the feature of something special and modern but something that still had elements giving value to the article. The base of the modern and trendy color was the first preparation and then match original décors each piece. Result is a maximum mix & match expression making each item special for every moment of the day, from breakfast up to ice cream and up to the gala dinner.

White porcelain with black glaze décors. The contrast between black and white set moved to its maximum expression mixing also with different kinds of décor design playing between spheres and lines. Even the shapes are based on a contrasts game between regular elements and distorted elements for a table that will be the least original with elegance and art expressed to the fullest.

Progetto Bianco&Nero – come affrontarlo se non basando tutto sul contrasto?! Quindi i colori, ovvio, poi linee e cerc, pieni e vuoti, poi anche le forme: regolari e irregolari. Il risultato è un set che, una volta realizzato, ci dà anche la sensazione di una sorta di libro del design con una pagina aperta sugli anni ’70 e un tocco di futurismo.

White & Black Project – how to deal with it if not basing everything on the contrast?! So the colors, of course, then lines and circles, full and empty, then also the shapes: regular and irregular ones. The result is a set that, once realized, also gives us the sensation of a kind of book of design with an open page on the Seventies and a touch of futurism.

Siamo rimasti colpiti vedendo altri oggetti con questi due specifici colori. Abbiamo voluto mettere in evidenza in questo set solo questo con un decoro arabeggiante che si ripete su tutti gli elementi.

We were impressed seeing other objects with these two specific colors. Only for this set we wanted to highlight throught an arabesque dĂŠcor repeating on all elements.

Sassi I vari elementi esprimono al meglio il concetto di “naturale”, zen .. un essenziale ottenuto con una raffinata ricerca di design per far sì che ogni elemento possa essere il più spontaneo possibile sia come singolo pezzo che come intero set posto tavola allestito con tutti gli elementi. Finiture e tecnologie di produzione sono d’avanguardia per riprodurre un concetto semplice così come è la natura.

Various elements best express the idea of “natural”, zen.. An essential obtained with a refined design research to ensure that each element can be as spontaneous as possible both as a single piece and as a whole place table set up with all the elements. I sassi per noi rappresentano quelle pietre dure che vengono lavorate in millenni lungo il corso dei fiumi. In sé sono una creazione raffinata e complessa, possiamo dire naturale perché questo processo è realizzato dalla natura, ma allo stesso tempo si capisce che dietro c’è una lavorazione immensamente complessa. Se all’inizio volevamo riprodurre solo l’effetto estetico sulla glassa, abbiamo poi lavorato per far sì che ogni singolo pezzo potesse essere incastrato con l’altro creando tutti insieme un sasso. Pensiamo di essere veramente riusciti in questo ma anche per noi, come per la natura, è stato un procedimento di design molto complicato. Anche in fabbrica ottenere quel complesso risultato che la natura conquista nel corso di millenni è stato molto difficile per forme, cotture, finiture e altro.

Stones represent those hard stones that are worked during millennia along the course of the rivers. They are a refined and complex creation itself, we could say natural because this process is carried out by nature but at the same time we understand that underneath there is an huge complex workmanship. If at first we wanted to reproduce only the aesthetic effect on the glaze, then we worked to make sure that every single piece could be framed with the other one creating a rock together. We do think we really were successful but also for us, as for nature, it was a very complicated design process. Even in the factory get that complex result that nature conquers over millennia has been very difficult for shapes, firings, finishes and much more.
