“Extremely virtuosic,” wrote a reviewer of Sacre. The ten acrobats of the ensemble take Stravinsky’s epochal composition as their starting point, teleporting this classic work of modern ballet into the world of circus. Throbbing with tension and laced with dark humour, the production is the vision of artistic director Yaron Lifschitz. Among other things, it portrays the elemental forces that define human relationships, inherent sexual desires and connections with the supernatural. Veronique Benett complements the world of Stravinsky’s ballet with a special lighting design, while Philippe Bachman created new, rousing music.

Circa The Australian Circa is a contemporary circus company with worldwide renown. It was founded in Brisbane in 2004, and has since performed all over the globe. Circa is at the forefront of a new wave of contemporary Australian circus, pioneering the transformation of acrobatics and physicality into a theatrical language in its own right. the leadership of Yaron Lifschitz, Circa has grown into a team of multitalented artists who regularly perform at major festivals and stages in New York, London, Berlin and Montreal, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Barbican Centre, Les Nuits de Fourvière, the Chamäleon Theater and of course the biggest Australian festivals.

Yaron Lifschitz Yaron Lifschitz is a graduate of the University of New South Wales, the University of Queensland and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). Since graduating, the charismatic artist has directed over 60 shows, including large-scale events, opera, theatre, physical theatre and circus productions. His work has been seen by more than 1.5 million people in 40 countries on six continents, and he has won numerous accolades, including six Helpmann Awards and the Australia Council Award for Theatre. His filmic productions have been selected into the programme of the film festivals of Berlin and Melbourne.
