DEAR VIEWERS, We believe that there are no limits to the Müpa Budapest experience. We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, and our YouTube channel. We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

LÁZÁR BROTHERS: HULLÁMTÖRÉS (BREAKING THE WAVES) ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT
Ágoston Lázár, Domokos Lázár – guitar, vocals Featuring: Márk Csernovszky – piano, metallophone Janka Porkoláb, Áron Rátkay – cello The two brothers, known for their performances in the bands Esti Kornél and Pegazusok Nem Léteznek, first partnered up in 1992 when Ágoston came into the world, three years after Domokos. They would never have guessed, of course, that they would later take to the stage together as the Lázár Brothers. Hullámtörés (Breaking the Waves), their first album of melancholy, acoustic and minimally orchestrated songs, was released in the autumn of 2020. This evening will be their only album release concert in Budapest. It promises to be an intimate, familial, brotherly and serious-minded concert. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

DAY OF HUNGARIAN CULTURE PANNON PHILHARMONIC
Veress: Threnos (in memoriam Béla Bartók) • Bartók: Divertimento, Sz. 113, BB 118 • Zoltán Bánfalvi: Capriccio – for solo cello and symphonic orchestra • Kodály: Dances of Galánta Featuring: Tibor Bogányi – cello • Conductor: Gilbert Varga Presenter: Dávid Zsoldos On 22 January 1823, Ferenc Kölcsey finished penning the words to the Himnusz – the Hungarian national anthem – in the village of Szatmárcseke. In memory of this event, we celebrate the Day of Hungarian Culture each year on this date. And just as on that gloomy winter day cut off from the world in the country manor house east of the River Tisza, Kölcsey’s pen pondered the stormy centuries of the Hungarian people, we too reflect time and again on the bright and sad days alike of our our own culture, and we perhaps associate all this with the passing of winter and the idea of the renewal of hope. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

SZENT ISTVÁN PHILHARMONIC Mozart: Maurerische Trauermusik, K. 477 • Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K. 414 •Brahms: Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90 Featuring: Apolka Bonnyai – piano • Szent István Philharmonic Conductor: Mátyás Antal Mozart’s ‚Masonic Funeral Music’ is a short and slow piece with a solemn atmosphere. Its core is a Gregorian melody, which might seem like a strange idea, as it is well known that the freemasonry movement was at sharp odds with the Catholic church. The composer was 26 years when he composed this A major piano concerto, and his days were filled with optimism and happiness, making the piece sparkle with sunshine. Although Brahms wrote his Third Symphony in the home key of F major, minor key characters also emerge into the foreground, thus offering, after Mozart’s concerto, a powerful contrast with its sense of drama. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.
Though the 14th Jazz Showcase talent exchange is seeking to break out from the shadow of the pandemic, it will also adapt to the situation. Instead of the usual live concerts, you can enjoy a broadcast of the show – featuring performances from six youthful groups at the Festival Theatre on 24 January – on the Müpa Budapest website and YouTube channel. The Showcase host will once again be Péter Novák, who will help us get to know the character of the performers. The international jury of illustrious personalities will once again select what they consider to be the most exciting and extraordinary group, The viewers can this year too, from 2 pm on 24 January 2021 vote for the youthful talents. Host: Péter Novák The performances will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.
