Featuring: Gábor Farkas - piano • Saint Ephraim Men's Choir (artistic director: Tamás Bubnó) • Music: Liszt, Chopin, Paganini • Arranged by: Tamás Bubnó, István Szalonna Pál, Ferenc Radics, Márk Bubnó • Musical editor, artistic director: István Szalonna Pál • Choreographers: György Ágfalvi, Gábor Mihályi, Orza Calin, Zoltán Zsuráfszky Jr. • Costume designer: Edit Szűcs • Set, visual design: György Árvai • Video animation: Zsolt Korai • Lighting designer: Zoltán Vida • Director, ensemble leader: Gábor Mihályi After taking inspiration from Bartók and Kodály in previous productions, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is again turning to Hungarian classical music for inspiration, this time to the work of Ferenc Liszt. The group wishes to see itself and be seen in the reflection of the genius's epochal oeuvre. On this occasion, the creative team is being motivated by more than the wish to pay tribute to Liszt: there is also the conviction that his greatness as a composer and performer has a valid message perhaps even for our own era, along with a lesson for our modern present. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 31 October 2018.

Beethoven: Piano Concerto No 5 Konzerthaus Dortmund / 2 April 2020, Thursday, 8.00 pm

BUDAPEST SPRING FESTIVAL

Denis Matsuev’s Piano Recital 3 April 2020, Friday, 7.30 pm

Beethoven: Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, op. 110 • Schumann: Symphonic Etudes, op. 13 • Rachmaninoff: Etudes-Tableaux, op. 39 - excerpts • Tchaikovsky: Méditation, op. 72/5 • Rachmaninoff: Prelude in G minor, op. 23, No. 5 • Rachmaninoff: Prelude in G sharp minor, op. 32/12 • Prokofiev: Sonata No. 7 in B flat major, op. 83 One of the world's celebrated pianists, who regularly demonstrates his exceptional technical and physical abilities in Hungarian concert halls, Denis Matsuev is a charismatic personality. His impeccable playing and his seemingly ungovernable keenness to improvise are equally captivating. He has a penchant for grand and very challenging concert programmes that feature some of the most complex pieces of the piano's literature. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 5 April 2017.

JAZZ SPRING 2018

Bobby McFerrin: circlesongs 4 April 2020, Saturday, 8.00 pm

Featuring: Joey Blake, Dave Worm – vocals • Sára Bolyki, Anna Fellegi, Cintia Horváth, Gina Kanizsa, Katus Várallyay, Petra Várallyay, László Bolyki, Attila Fábián, Máté Homor, Gábor Molnár, Dávid Varga, Bence Vavra – vocals For many people, Bobby McFerrin is ‘the guy who sang Don't Worry, Be Happy'. Though he is indeed the composer of that world famous hit and has been performing the song for more than 30 years, it forms just a tiny part of his musical career - as will become evident during the concert. This American singer and composer is a boundary-pushing, tireless ‘seeker', whose life tells its own story of his constant exploration into self-knowledge and the artistic spirit. McFerrin will present to the Müpa Budapest audience a reinterpretation of his meditation and improvisational Circlesongs work, based on the traditions of Africa and the Middle East and featuring supporting vocalists. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 3 May 2018.

London Symphony Orchestra Philharmonie Luxembourg / 5 April 2020, Sunday, 8.00 pm Béla Bartók: Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta Conductor: Sir Simon Rattle
