DEAR VIEWERS, We believe that there are no limits to the Müpa Budapest experience. We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, and our YouTube channel. We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

SHAI MAESTRO TRIO Shai Maestro – piano • Jorge Roeder – bass • Arthur Hnatek - drums When bassist Avishai Cohen performed at Müpa in April 2012, many were feverish with anticipation to see that the advertised line-up also featured fellow Israeli Shai Maestro at the piano. In the end, Maestro couldn’t make that concert, so this evening will finally make up for it. At the same time, those who became fans of the pianist after hearing any of the albums since released by the Shai Maestro Trio will enter this concert with fresh enthusiasm. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 23 May 2016.

KÁROLY BINDER–NORBERT KÁEL: REFLECTIONS ON LISZT Featuring: Károly Binder, Norbert Káel – piano If Franz Liszt were alive today, he would surely be a jazz pianist. An exaggeration? This concert’s two performers, the Erkel Prize-winning Károly Binder and his former student and current colleague Norbert Káel, both agree that it is no such thing. Classical piano technique reached its peak in the time of Liszt, and largely through his efforts. The composer-pianist was not just unique for his virtuosity, but also for his improvisational ability, two skills that today primarily define jazz musicians. Binder and Káel often perform classical pieces and paraphrases, and an essential element of their music is the combination of different genres. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 5 Juny 2018.

CONCERTO BUDAPEST HOMMAGE À SHOSTAKOVICH

Shostakovich-Barshai: Chamber Symphony in C minor, Op. 110a • Shostakovich: Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57 • Shostakovich: Concerto in C minor for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra (Piano Concerto No. 1), Op. 35 Featuring: Gergely Bogányi, Mihály Berecz – piano • Keller Quartet (András Keller, Zsófia Környei – violin • Gábor Homoki – viola • László Fenyő – cello) Gábor Devecsai – trumpet • Conductor: András Keller Concert Budapest’s tribute concert focuses on the memory of Dmitri Shostakovich. As the travel restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic have made it impossible for Sergei Krylov to visit Budapest, the symphony orchestra led by András Keller will instead be evoking the figure of the Russian composer who died 45 years ago together with outstanding Hungarian soloists. We’re broadcasting this performance live!
