DEAR VIEWERS, We believe that there are no limits to the Müpa Budapest experience. We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, and our YouTube channel. We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

CONCERTO BUDAPEST Schönberg: Six Little Piano Pieces, Op. 19 • Messiaen: Le Merle noir • Brahms: Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115 • Messiaen: Quatuor pour la fin du temps – eighth movement: Louange à l’Immortalité de Jésus • Schönberg: Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4 Featuring: András Keller, Zsófia Környei – violin • Gábor Homoky, László Móré – viola • Dóra Kokas, Péter Somodari, Tamás Migróczi – cello • Orsolya Kaczander – flute • Csaba Klenyán – clarinet • Gábor Csalog – piano Although an initial hearing seems to reveal no similarity at all between the music of Brahms and Schönberg, who both composed in Vienna, but in the late 19th century and first half of the 20th century, respectively, the latter considered his older colleague to be one of his most important musical predecessors. And on top of that, both of them did quite important creative work in the area of chamber music. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

Tálas Áron

Thursday, 4 March 2021, 8 pm

THE ÁRON TÁLAS TRIO AND MIKE MORENO Featuring: Áron Tálas – piano • József Barcza Horváth – double bass Attila Gyárfás – drums • Guest: Mike Moreno – guitar The 30-year-old pianist, drummer and composer Áron Tálas is one of the most noteworthy figures among Hungary’s younger jazz generation. A few years ago, he made his début at an afternoon Jazz Showcase performance, and now – at his 2018 concert – he was playing with Pat Metheny’s favourite guitarist. This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 1 February 2018. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL

ISTVÁN VÁRDAI AND GUESTS Arvo Pärt: Fratres • Vivaldi: In furore iustissimae irae, RV 626 • J. S. Bach–Zoltán Tfirst: Sonata for Viola da Gamba in G minor, BWV 1029 (arranged for Strings) • J. S. Bach: „Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” – cantata, BWV 61 – „Öffne dich, mein ganzes Herze” (aria) • C. P. E. Bach: Cello Concerto in A major, Wq 172 (H. 439) • J. Chr. Bach: Lucio Silla - Il labbro timido appien • J. C. Fr. Bach: The Symphony in D minor W. 1/3 Featuring: Réka Kristóf – voice • Capella Savaria One aspect of the concept for the Early Music Festival that its concerts should feature not only early music specialists playing instruments of the era, but also performances from open-minded contemporary musicians. These musicians take on a significant commitment to discover the secrets of early music works and apply them to the repertoires of Baroque and the First Viennese School eras. Which is what we will witness in this concert featuring a world class cellist: István Várdai, Müpa’s Artist of the Season. He will perform alongside a 40-year-old ensemble that specialises in historically informed performance, while the guest soloist is a young soprano who found great success in the Virtuózok (Virtuosos) TV talent contest. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.
