DEAR VIEWERS, We believe that there are no limits to the Müpa Budapest experience. We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to many live concerts (although without an audience) or an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, and our YouTube channel. We trust that, in this way, we will be able to make the evenings you are spending at home more pleasant and full of magical and uplifting moments. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

BARTÓK 140

Bartók: Rhapsody No. 1 for cello and piano, Sz. 88, BB 94c • Bartók: Kossuth – symphonic poem for large orchestra, Sz. 21, BB 31, DD 75a • Bartók: Violin Concerto (“No. 1”), op. posth. (1907–08; Sz. 36, BB 48a) • Bartók programme of Muzsikás Ensemble and their friends Featuring: Kristóf Baráti – violin • László Fenyő – cello • Eduard Kunz, Balázs Fülei – piano • Ildikó „Fecske” Tóth, Zoltán „Batyu” Farkas – dancers • Muzsikás Ensemble • Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra • Zugló Philharmonic – King Saint Stephen Symphony Orchestra • Conductors: János Kovács, Gábor Horváth This day marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Béla Bartók, whose artistic output as a composer, pianist and researcher of folk music was of lasting value on a global scale. It was not only in Hungary that his works influenced the thinking of composers who came after him, as he was considered one of the leading figures of 20th-century modernism, with an unassailable position in the history of Western music. For our programme, we have compiled works from previous concerts at Müpa Budapest into a bouquet of interpretations by some of Hungary’s finest musicians. This recording was made at concerts held at Müpa Budapest on 18 November 2014 (Rhapsody No. 1), 13 March 2018 (Kossuth), 28 May 2016 (Violin Concerto) and 15 March 2015 (Muzsikás). The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

FERENC SNÉTBERGER TRIO & NILS PETTER MOLVÆR Featuring: Ferenc Snétberger – guitar • Phil Donkin – double bass Ferenc Németh – drums • Special guest: Nils Petter Molvær – trumpet The guitarist and songwriter Ferenc Snétberger has risen to international fame with a style refined to perfection over the past three decades. Following the release of a solo disc in 2016 by the prestigious label ECM and his 2017 trio album, he was joined by the Keller Quartet to record his brand new CD, which came out in February this year. Ferenc Snétberger appeared here in concert in 2017 before the Hungarian audience with his then brand-new trio, in which the British Phil Donkin plays double bass alongside the New York-based Ferenc Németh on the drums.
