DEAR VIEWERS, We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world’s most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – in the safety of their own homes. We believe that there are no limits to the „Müpa Budapest experience”, which is why we decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest’s virtual concert hall by providing access to an unforgettable performance from past years, which we’ll transmit on our website, our Facebook page and our YouTube channel. What is more, as a member of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) and in the spirit of international solidarity, we will also be streaming concerts on our Facebook page from different prestigious concert halls around Europe, from Lisbon and Hamburg to London – trusting that this will make evenings at home more pleasant. Take good care, and let’s continue to stick together!

LES BOURGEOIS GENTILSHOMMES – LA LUMIÈRE COMIQUE French literature in Baroque music Lully–Molière: Le Bourgeois gentilhomme • Lully–Molière: L’Amour médecin • Lully–Molière: George Dandin, ou le Mari confondu • Charpentier–Molière: Le malade imaginaire • Charpentier–Molière: Le mariage forcé • Rameau–d’Orville: Platée • Rameau-Voltaire: La Princesse de Navarre – arias and orchestral passages Featuring: Rodica Vica – soprano • Musica Ricercata • Conductor: Gabriel Bebeșelea It has been said many times that great music does not necessarily require the highest quality text, and some go so far as to say that some music can even be hindered from developing fully when the melody is paired with words that claim a position of equal rank. Of course, it is still pleasing to find the notes of the greatest composers coupled with literary source material of exceptional value. And the performers? This production was full of thrilling débuts, including from the Romanian singer Rodica Vica, whom critics describe as one of the most attractive-sounding coloratura sopranos of her age group. The essential aim of Musica Ricercata, recruited from Romania’s finest musicians, is to enrich the concert scene with innovative programmes that explore both early music and the modern repertoire. This recording was made at the concert held at Müpa Budapest on 8 March 2018. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

IDA NIELSEN & BAND Ida Nielsen – bass guitar, voice • Kuku Agami – rap • Phong Le – keyboards, voice Oliver Engqvist – guitar, voice • Patrick Dorcean – drums, electronics It says much about the talent and qualities of the Danish bass guitar player Ida Nielsen that in August 2010, Prince invited her to play in his band, The New Power Generation, and she remained with the group until his death. She was also a member of another Prince group, 3rdeyegirl. In recent years, Ida has focused on her solo career, releasing the album Time 2 Stop Worrying (bout the weird stuff) in the autumn of 2018, featuring a combination of old school funk and nu soul and hip-hop. Alongside some hot and funkier numbers, Nielsen and her band have created some stunning ballads, during which the group’s front woman also plays a variety of different instruments. This recording was made at the concert held at Müpa Budapest on 3 May 2019. The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

The young player, historian and restorer of organs, who also has a one-person series performing all of Bach’s organ works to his name, will be taking the stage with Zsigmond Szathmáry too, a master 50 years his elder who is respected as a major figure in contemporary organ-playing. They have even jointly made a transcription of Liszt’s deservedly popular symphonic poem for the occasion. At the end of our compilation dedicated to the 15-year-old organ of Müpa Budapest, a work by Saint-Saëns will be performed with the solo of László Fassang. The composer dedicated his Symphony in C minor, written in 1886, to the memory of his recently deceased friend Franz Liszt. This recording was made at concerts held at Müpa Budapest on 7 March 2012, on 21 December 2013 and on 21-22 May 2016 (Organ Stories No. 6, Masterful transcriptions, Organ10).
