El proyecto “Del mapa al territorio” pretende dar visibilidad y voz a los proyectos, colectivos y espacios independientes de Castilla y León, partiendo de la premisa de que estas iniciativas –normalmente gestionadas por artistas y activistas culturales– son esenciales para entender el entramado de producción artística y cultural de cualquier territorio.

The project “From Map to Territory” aims to give visibility and voice to the projects, groups and independent spaces of Castilla y León, starting from the premise that these initiatives –normally run by artists and cultural activists– are essential in order to understand the web of artistic and cultural production of any territory.

Las iniciativas independientes, también denominadas alternativas o autogestionadas, se caracterizan por su heterogeneidad organizativa, por la diversidad de sus propuestas estéticas y por realizar un trabajo muy cercano a los movimientos sociales. Su vinculación con el movimiento asociativo es, de hecho, innegable debido a su planteamiento colectivo y voluntad de transformación social. Es por ello que en este proyecto el contexto sociopolítico en que dichas iniciativas han surgido estará muy presente.

Independent initiatives, which may also be called alternative or self-run, are characterised by their organisational heterogeneity, by the diversity of their aesthetic vision and for working very closely with social movements. Their link to association movements is, in fact, undeniable due to their collective approach and will for social transformation. It is for this reason that in this project, the socio-political context in which the said initiatives have surged forth is very present.

Analizando la aparición de estos espacios y colectivos pretendemos dar a conocer la evolución de un sector aparentemente invisible, pero cuya participación e implicación en el desarrollo socio-cultural es clave para evaluar y analizar el papel del arte contemporáneo en la Comunidad. Para ello, identificar y recopilar documentación (gráfica, audiovisual, sonora, etc.) sobre estas iniciativas, en activo o que ya forman parte del pasado de la región, pero que han tenido un papel esencial en los aproximadamente treinta años que cubrirá el proyecto.

Analysing the emergence of these spaces and groups, we intend to introduce the evolution of a sector that is apparently invisible, but whose participation and implication in the socio-cultural development is key in the evaluation and analysis of the role of contemporary art in the Community. As such, to identify and to gather documentation (graphic, audiovisual, sound, etc.) about these initiatives which may be active or may be part of the past of the región, but have had an essential role in the last 30 years that this project covers.

Partiendo de una metodología de trabajo integradora y participativa, este proyecto prestará especial atención a la activación de procesos relacionales y cooperativos entre los agentes culturales independientes en activo, sin despreciar por ello el interés en lograr resultados que respondan a las necesidades actuales del tan ignorado –si no despreciado– sector cultural independiente castellanoleonés.

Starting from a work methodology that is integrative and participative, this project will pay special attention to the activation of related processes and cooperatives between active independent cultural agents, without disregarding the interest in achieving results that respond to current needs of such ignored –if not neglected– independent cultural sector from Castilla y León.
