The Critic Christopher Rosewood was born in Hastings in 1952 and is a critical writer and curator based in London. Rosewood is the creator of the book “Figures; from Realism to Abstraction” that elegantly describes the interiors of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the permanent collections and the artworks of great contemporary artists such as Tom Nash and Jin Cheng Liu. The exhibition was presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum and was well received by the public and the critics. This important publication is a testament to the difficult task of selecting the artists and hosting the exhibition. Christopher also selected important works by Frances Turner presented at Museo del Chopo in Mexico. These works were published by the Museum in an important publication during this solo show. A noteworthy quote by Rosewood is “Always with the artist.” He has a huge admiration for artists who he believes are people that often work in solitude, who create and who send their message to the world, a message that is often related to their feelings - whether in a still life or a artwork depicting social issues or an abstract that allows the viewer to have a totally personal interpretation of the artwork. Christopher is not only an art critic of contemporary art but is also well known his research on Renaissance artists. Christopher contributed to important writings on Palma the Younger, the artist that finished Tiziano’s “Pietà” after his death, as well as his studies on Durer, Rembrandt and Rubens. Rosewood was a great friend of Bill Hopkins of the International Association of Art critics with which he participated in research on the various aesthetic expressions linked to art and the philosophy of form.

The Artist Since early childhood, photography has been in Martín’s heart. From the early days in a darkroom built in the bathroom of his parents home to the present days of digital manipulation, Martín’s work has always been characterised by imagination, surrealism and impressionism. Dr. Raskovsky’s photographs are routinely mistaken for paintings due to their expressive nature and he is known to sleep with a photographic camera at his bedside, ready to capture and interpret dreams, using the camera as a paintbrush to capture his subconscious thoughts. Dr. Raskovsky is a computer scientist by profession who previously refused to share his art and 2016 saw the debut of his work presented to the public in the Brick Lane Gallery, London. Dr. Raskovsky has since received a surge in exposure resulting in numerous exhibitions including being selected for the London Art Biennale 2017. Education: • • • •

First Class Honours in Computing Science; Philosophy Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computing Science; Lecturer at Essex University; Research Fellow at Oxford University.

Exhibitions: “My Dreams” - Solo Exhibition - Centrespace Gallery, Bristol, July; “Art in Mind, True Colours” - The Brick Lane Gallery, London, June; “Art in Mind, Revisited” - The Brick Lane Gallery, May; “Landscape Rural Vs Urban” - The Brick Lane Gallery, February. “My current interest is in the post capture creative process. It is a search for colours and forms that emanate from my inside, often completely unrelated to the original subject. Brush in hand, the journey of image transformation is an art form of its own. Colours and shapes are transformed again and again until the time when a solution emerges, sometimes with a tremendous eureka effect; almost orgasmic. The journey from photographic camera to canvas, my creative journey.” Dr. Martín Raskovsky

The Critique Dr. Martín Raskovsky is an eclectic artist with an incomparable and complex aesthetic touch. Dr. Raskovsky’s visionary journey and passion for photography was born very early and followed a stimulating and remarkable evolution that has resulted in thought provoking, intellectual and deeply evocative works of art. Encountering Dr. Raskovsky’s expressive and captivating creations, the viewer is stimulated by a strong sense of movement, innate harmony and intense mystery that forces one to pause, observe and reflect. The spectator will take time to explore the rich, complex albeit exquisitely graceful compositions with a sense of enjoyable curiosity. The enthralling flows and meanders of energy soon begin to penetrate the mind of the admirer as the elements start to blend with the surreal aura of the backgrounds. Finally, one slowly perceives the authentic source of the final artwork: a perfect photograph. The camera is used as a sacred and basic tool to catch the latent and fierce beauty of a specific instant. Every individual trace of majesty and grace is captured by Dr. Raskovsky, to then be given new life. We witnesses a conception of dramatic artistry that roots in science, nature the subconscious mind of the artist. Motionless images are transformed into works of art made of a versatile and energetic elegance that recall graceful watercolours or fluid oils with the communicative power of a great expressionist. Dr. Raskovsky’s creative genius is in fact an outstanding innovation to photographic art: after centuries of technical and technological evolution, the progress of the optical instrument that revolutionised our lives seems to deserve a new dimension. Impressionist painters accelerated the gesture of their brush strokes in order to capture the ephemeral and immediate nuances of light, while Dr. Raskovsky carries out the process in reverse: he already owns reality and, with a unique and refined vision, he transforms photography into post-impressionistic masterpieces. Flowing waves and sinuous lines create a sense of movement that vibrates all the nuances of a wild and rampant nature. Dr. Raskovsky’s rich imagination is able to relieve the viewer from the dominant and accepted norms of photographic art and, as a consequence, he opens our minds. Dr. Raskovsky is an exceptionally talented artist and photographer, with a forceful drive that erupts through all of his creations. This artist radiates beauty and has been gifted with the ability to translate emotions through a unique language of expressive art. Christopher Rosewood International Confederation of Art Critics
