OPEN AIR PSYTRANCE FESTIVAL

Gemeinsam mit Macher Uwe blicken wir auf 25 Jahre Antaris zurück, geben ihm Gelegenheit, einmal aus seiner Sicht über dieses wirklich einzigartige Festival zu sprechen, welches das mushroom magazine genauso wie die internationale Psytrance Szene Jahr für Jahr mit großer Begeisterung und Hingabe besucht hat.

Welche Besonderheiten erwarten uns auf der 25., der Jubiläums-Antaris? Die Jubiläumsausgabe wird voller Licht und bewegter Bilder sein. Auf dem Mainfloor bekommt die Deko von Buju den perfekten Schliff und die Bühne erhält ein spektakuläres Rundum-Video-Mapping. Das Soundsystem hat noch mehr Boxen, inklusive Föön-Bässe in der Mitte: Es darf wieder AUF den Bässen getanzt werden! Der Alternative Floor bekommt eine absolute Föön-Spitzenanlage, zudem eine Deko von Flower of Life. Auch in der Chill-Area gibt es diesmal Videoprojektionen. Und am Eingang wartet auf jeden Gast und Antarianer ein Geschenk.

Wie fing alles an? Was ist daraus heute geworden? Im August 1993 gab es vor den Toren Berlins in Rüdersdorf in einem Zirkuszelt eine legendäre Partynacht mit Antaro, Scotty, Sangeet. Es war eiskalt, wir wärmten uns am Feuer. Auf dem blauen Papierflyer mit den gelben Sternchen stand lustigerweise: Einlass 19 Uhr, Beginn 20 Uhr. Eine Tanzfläche. Daraus ist ein professionell durchorganisiertes Event mit drei Floors und jeder Menge Technik geworden, das erst in Ostprignitz-Ruppin und jetzt im Havelland beheimatet ist. Im Kern, im Herzen, ist es aber immer noch die ANTARIS.

Was waren für dich besonders bewegende Momente auf der Antaris in den vergangenen Jahren? Tiefpunkt: die absolute Schlammschlacht vor zwei Jahren, also 2017. Jedoch, aus dem Tiefpunkt wurde dann ein Höhepunkt. Denn durch den Zusammenhalt des Publikums wurde genau diese ANTARIS am Ende zu einer der drei besten!

Welchem Thema widmet ihr die Antaris in diesem Jahr? Ganz klar, wichtiger und aktueller denn jemals zuvor: GEGEN KRIEG, FÜR FREUNDSCHAFT, FRIEDEN UND FREIHEIT !!! Die ANTARIS ist für die Augen, für die Ohren, für das Herz!

Wird dies wirklich die letzte Chance sein, die Antaris zu erleben? Letzte Chance ? Diese Frage kann ich leider im Moment noch nicht präzise beantworten, da dies von zu vielen verschiedenen Faktoren abhängig ist. Die endgültige Entscheidung darüber wird wahrscheinlich erst im September oder Oktober fallen. Es steht sozusagen in den Sternen geschrieben, vielleicht kennt einer irgendwo im Universum die Antwort. Visionen für weitere Chancen habe ich! Wer die ANTARIS aber nochmals genauso erleben will, wie sie jetzt ist und die vergangenen Jahre war, als riesiger leuchtender funkelnder fliegender Teppich mit drei wundervollen Floors, der sollte auch jetzt nochmal kommen. INTERVIEW WITH ANTARIS PROJECT FOUNDER UWE

Together with maker Uwe we look back on 25 years of Antaris, give him the opportunity to talk about this truly unique Psytrance festival from his point of view, which mushroom magazine as well as the international Psytrance scene have visited year after year with great enthusiasm and devotion.

What special features await us at the 25th, the Jubilee Antaris? The jubilee edition will be full of light and moving images. On the main floor Buju's decoration will be perfected and the stage will get a spectacular all-round video mapping. The sound system will have even more speakers, including Föön basses in the middle: You can dance ON the bass again! The Alternative Floor will be equipped with a Föön sound system and Flower of Life decorations. There will also be video projections in the chill area this time. And every guest can look forward to an anniversary gift at the door!

How did it all begin? What has become of it today? In August 1993 there was a legendary party night with Antaro, Scotty, Sangeet in a circus tent outside the gates of Berlin in Rüdersdorf. It was fucking cold, we warmed ourselves at the fire. On the yellow starred blue paper flyer it read, funny enough: Admission 7 p.m., beginning 8 p.m. One sole dance floor. Today it has become a professionally organized event with three floors and a lot of technology, was first located in Ostprignitz-Ruppin and now is in Havelland. In its core, in its heart, however it still is the ANTARIS.

From your point of view, what were particularly moving moments at the Antaris in the past years? Low point: the absolute mudbath two years ago, in 2017. However, this low point turned into a high point. Because of the audience's team spirit, exactly this ANTARIS became one of the three best ever in the end!

What theme are you dedicating the Antaris this year to? Clearly, more important and up-to-date than ever before: AGAINST WAR, FOR FRIENDSHIP, PEACE AND FREEDOM! The ANTARIS is for the eyes, for the ears, for the heart!

Will this really be the last chance to visit the Antaris?

Last chance ? Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question precisely at the moment because it all depends on many different factors. The final decision will probably not be made until September or October. It is all in the stars, so to speak, perhaps somebody somewhere in the universe knows the answer. I have visions for further chances! But if you want to experience the ANTARIS just as it is now and has been in the past years, as a huge glowing sparkling flying carpet with three wonderful floors, you should come. LAUGH&DANCE!

Wie er housig, technoid und dann wieder psychedelisch wurde

Progressiv: Schlägt man im Lexikon nach, wird dieser Begriff mit „fortschrittlich, sich allmählich steigernd, sich entwickelnd“ erklärt. Vor diesem Hintergrund kann man wohl behaupten, dass jedes Musikgenre eine progressive Veranlagung hat. Schließlich folgt jedes Genre einer gewissen Evolution. Aber in kaum einem anderen Kontext gehört der Begriff so sehr zum alltäglichen Standardvokabular wie in der Trance Szene. Beim musikalischen Fachsimpeln vor einer Party oder auf einem Festival scheint er geradezu eine Grundeigenschaft von Sound zu beschreiben. Aber was genau ist mit Aussagen wie “...schön progressiv!” oder “...der macht jetzt ja auch so Proggi-Sound...” eigentlich gemeint? Um dieser Frage auf den Grund zu gehen, wollen wir zunächst zu den Anfängen von Progressive Trance reisen und uns dann ansehen, wie sich das Genre progressiv weiterentwickelt und im Laufe der Jahre eine beachtliche Zahl von Sub-Genres hervorgebracht hat. Die Anfänge von Progressive Trance Wie wir im letzten Heft, im ersten Teil unserer großen Psytrance Geschichte, bereits erwähnt haben, war der Sound unserer Szene in den 90ern zwar geprägt von den und gemacht für die paradiesischen Palmenstrände von Goa, aber produziert wurde er vor allem in Europa. Und hier entwickelte sich schon recht früh eine eigenständige Szene. Und mit

ihr eine Generation von Produzenten, die nie nach Goa gereist war – und trotzdem auf psychedelische Tanzreisen stand. Andreas Binotsch, einer der Gründer von Medium Records (später Midijum Records) und den meisten von uns als DJ Bim ein Begriff, fasst sehr treffend zusammen, was damals passierte: "Etwa Mitte / Ende der 90er hatte der eigentliche Goa Trance seinen Zenit überschritten. Musikalisch gab es keine

Innovationen. Wir erreichten die 150 BPM Marke und irgendwie klang alles gleich, hinzu kam dass die Tracks so überfüllt mit Musik gewesen sind, dass der eigentliche Motor (Kick und Bassline) irgendwo im Nichts verschwand. Denn wie soll er sich entfalten, wenn es keinen Raum dafür gibt? In Schweden fühlte sich eine Gruppe junger Musiker berufen, unsere Musik zu verändern. Sie reduzierten die Produktionen auf das Wesentliche und gaben

Part II: PROGRESSIVE TRANCE Progressive: If you look up 'progressive' in the dictionary, it is explained as "progressive, gradually increasing, developing". Against this background, one can maintain that every musical genre has a progressive disposition. After all, every genre follows a certain evolution. But in hardly any other context does the term belong so much to the everyday standard vocabulary as in the trance scene. When talking shop about music before a party or at a festival, it seems to describe a basic characteristic of sound. But what exactly is meant by statements like "...beautiful progressive!" or "...he also does Proggi-Sound..."? In order to get to the bottom of this question, let's first travel to the beginnings of Progressive Trance and then look at how the genre has evolved progressively and has produced a considerable number of subgenres over the years.

How it became house-y, technoid and then got psychedelic again

The Beginnings of Progressive Trance As we mentioned in the last issue, in the first part of our great Psytrance story, the sound of our scene in the 90s was shaped by and made for

the paradisiacal palm beaches of Goa, but was mainly produced in Europe. Here an independent scene developed

quite early. As did a generation of producers who had never travelled to Goa - and yet still liked psychedelic dance journeys. Andreas Binotsch, one of the founders of Medium Records (later Midijum Records) and known to most of us as DJ Bim, sums up very aptly what happened at that time: "Around the middle/end of the 90s the actual Goa Trance had passed its zenith". Musically there were no new innovations. We reached the 150 BPM mark and somehow everything sounded the same, plus the tracks were so crowded with music that the actual engine (kick and bass line) disappeared somewhere in the nowhere. Because how can it unfold without room? In

Sweden a group of young musicians felt called to change our music. They reduced productions to the essential and allowed for space to unfold at a moderate speed of kick and bass line. A PLOP! became a big BANG! and that bang came to change our world." Perfect Stranger, a luminary with a unique characteristic in the field of progressive trance, did experience this in a similar way: "This new genre suddenly had space between the sounds, the music had room to breathe! The different producers, who mainly came from Scandinavia, each had very different ideas and production methods, there were no rules any more, so it was super exciting and fresh!". In 1999 two boys from Malmรถ

Ganz ähnlich erlebte das damals auch Perfect Stranger, bis heute eine Koryphäe mit Alleinstellungsmerkmal auf dem Gebiet Progressive Trance: "Dieses neue Genre hatte plötzlich Raum zwischen den Sounds, die Musik hatte Platz zum atmen! Die verschiedenen Produzenten, die vor allem aus Skandinavien kamen, hatten jeweils sehr unterschiedliche Ideen und Produktionsweisen, es gab keine Regeln mehr, also war es

super spannend und frisch!" Im Jahre 1999 präsentieren zwei Jungs aus Malmö den Titel "Knob Adjustment". Er basiert auf einem trocken angemischten Arrangement, ist durchweg von Percussions und einzelnen Soundeffekten bestimmt und ganz ohne vordergründige Melodie extrem deep und hypnotisch. Die beiden nennen sich Son Kite und sind zweifelsohne Pioniere des Progressive Trance Genres. Ihr schwedischer Landsmann Atmos legt im gleichen Jahr den minimalistisch gehaltenen Meilenstein "Klein Aber Doctor" vor, dessen fetter Offbeat Bass

und knarzig-düsteren Synthies bis heute auf Party zu hören sind. Aber auch in den deutschsprachigen Ländern gab es zur gleichen Zeit schon eine starke Progressive Trance Bewegung. Hört euch z.B. mal den Track "Chicago Coins Cinema" von Intact Instinct an, ebenfalls aus dem Jahr 1999. Oder auch die Musik, die Sebastian Krüger um 2000 herum mit seinen Projekten Tarsis und SBK veröffentlichte. Die musikalische Geschichte dieses Charakters bzw. seine verschiedenen Projekte sind quasi der Inbegriff dessen, was Progressive Trance um die Jahrtausendwende herum alles konnte und wie vielfältig er war... lassen wir Herrn SBK selbst zu Wort kommen: "Neben Hamburg war es in den 90er Jahren vor allem das schöne Sauerland - genau genommen die Grube in Siedlinghausen - wo die heutige Goa Szene in Deutschland ihren Ursprung hatte. Wobei die Szene in Hamburg direkt durch Antaro, Scotty und Sangeet aus Partys in Goa inspiriert wurde, was sich dann schnell in trancigem psychedelischen Sound ausdrückte. Die ersten Parties in der Grube waren hingegen eher psychedelische House-Partys, mit DJs aus dem Kölner Warehouse wie Paul Cooper oder Massimo. Daher wohl schon immer meine Vorliebe für progressive Grooves." Doch gerade die Hamburger entwickelten sehr früh ein Faible für jene progressiven Grooves. Es spricht für sich, dass Sebastian Krügers Album “Treibstoff”, darauf u.a. der

unvergessliche Hit "Morgenlatte", auf Antaros renommierten Spirit Zone Label erschien. So auch das bahnbrechende Album Blast Food von Spirallianz, das in seiner technoiden Härte und produktionstechnischen Brillanz eine ganz eigene Liga besetzte. Heute gehören die beiden Jungs, die das Ding im Jahr 2000 vorlegten, mit ihrem Projekt Extrawelt übrigens zur absoluten Oberklasse der Techno Szene. Auch das Shiva Chandra Album Auricular erschien 2000 auf Spirit Zone, mit seinen fetten Offbeat Bässen, verschachtelten Rhythmen und trippig-düsteren Soundeffekten eröffneten Tracks wie Schaukelstuhl nochmal eine ganze andere Spielart von Progressive Trance. Progressive Trance als Genre – mit vielen Subgenres An diesen drei Beispielen zeigt sich, wie vielfältig und andersartig die Veröffentlichungen zum Beginn der Progressive Trance Ära waren. Während Spirit Zone immer einen recht avantgardistischen Ansatz fuhr und damit eine sehr große stilistische Bandbreite hatte, sprossen

They called themselves Son Kite and are undoubtedly pioneers of the progressive trance genre. In the same year their Swedish compatriot Atmos presented the minimalistic milestone "Klein Aber Doctor", whose fat offbeat bass and creaky dark synths can still be heard at parties today. But there was a strong Progressive Trance movement in the German speaking countries at the same time as well. Just listen to the track "Chicago Coins Cinema" by Intact Instinct, also from 1999,

or to the music Sebastian Krueger released with his projects Tarsis and SBK around 2000. This guy's musical history and his various projects are the byword of what Progressive Trance was capable to do around the turn of the millennium and how diverse it was...let Mr. SBK speak for himself: "In Germany, in the 90s, besides Hamburg, it was above all the

beautiful Sauerland - to be precise the Grube in Siedlinghausen - where today's Goa scene originated. Whereas Hamburg's scene was directly inspired from parties in Goa by Antaro, Scotty and Sangeet, quickly manifesting itself in trance-like psychedelic sound, the first parties in the Grube were more psychedelic house parties, with DJs from Cologne's Warehouse like Paul Cooper or Massimo. Therefore my preference for progressive grooves." But the guys from Hamburg developed a soft spot for those progressive grooves very early on. It speaks for itself that Sebastian Krueger's album "Treibstoff", including the unforgettable hit

10 anderswo schon bald spezialisierte Labels für die vielen Facetten des jungen Progressive Genres aus dem Boden. "Für Goa Produzenten, die dann Progressive gemacht haben, musstest du ein Neben-Label aufmachen," erinnert sich der Hamburger Szene-Veteran DJ Magical. "Damit auch alle zufrieden sind so vom Ding her, damit auch jeder weiß: Das ist Progressive, Das ist Goa Mucke." Im Ruhrgebiet wurde der Vertrieb Nova Tekk aktiv, der dafür sorgte, dass die Vinyls und CDs mit dem neuen Sound auch in die Regale der Plattenläden kamen. Als leitender A&R (also derjenige, der für das Finden und Auswählen neuer Künstler zuständig ist) war Alexander Ligowski um 2000 herum ein

extrem wichtiger Charakter. Er erinnert sich: "Wir waren ja damals alle Soundforscher und so war es aus damaliger Sicht logisch, dass jede Facette das entsprechende Label bekommt. D.Drum habe ich damals mit Arne von Spirallianz / Midimiliz initiiert, um dem cineastischen Bombast Sound von The Delta eine Heimat zu geben. Auf Liquid Audio Soundz ging es im Gegensatz dazu reduzierter und mit eher housigen Sounds aber, immer noch progressiv trancig zur Sache." Diese spezialisierten Label entwickelten übrigens auch optisch eine neue Identität, die sich deutlich von den Goa und Psychedelic Trance Veröffentlichungen der 90er abhob: Auf den Progressive Trance Covern waren keine indischen Gottheiten und explodierenden Fraktalstürme mehr abgebildet, sondern moderne, stromlinienförmige Grafikdesigns, Illustrationen und sogar künstlerische Fotografien. Die große Progressive House Welle Das Stichwort House ist hier schon mehrfach gefallen. Wer dabei an weiße Lederhandtaschen, High Heels und in die Hose gesteckte, gebügelte Hemden dachte, wurde spätestens zu Beginn der 2000er eines Besseren belehrt. Denn die fetten, gut gelaunten und sexy Basslines von House kombiniert mit einer soliden Dosis Tribal Percussions und ein paar erbaulichen Synthie-Akkorden passen einfach wunderbar auf einen sonnigen Dancefloor voller vergnügungssüchtiger Hippies. So spielte

D-Nox bei seinen nachmittäglichen Sets auf der Voov teilweise die gleichen Platten, die er kurz zuvor im trendigen Tribehouse Neuss aufgelegt hatte – und galt damit als eines der Highlights des Festivals. Das gleiche gilt für die Auftritte des Deutsch-Neuseeländischen Duos Krüger & Coyle. Oder, um ein paar weitere Beispiel für die große Progressive House Welle um 2004 herum zu nennen, die Sets des portugiesischen Pena, von Tobias & Daniel oder Anne Joy & La Nina aus Deutschland sowie den damaligen Sound des britischen Szene-Veteranen James Monro. Progressive House hatte dabei eine recht große Bandbreite: Teilweise war er sehr melodiös und auf diese Weise durchaus trancig, teilweise aber auch sehr poppig mit Remixen großer Hits. Kein Wunder also, dass diese Strömung trotz ihrer kurzfristigen Beliebtheit irgendwann zum kontroversen Thema unter psychedelischen Puristen wurde. Tech Trance und Psychedelic Techno "Zu der Zeit veröffentlichten Markus Maichel und Arne Schaffhausen gerade ihr erstes The Delta Realease. Der Track 'As A Child I Could Walk On The Ceiling' war für mich damals

11 "Morgenlatte", was released on Antaro's renowned Spirit Zone label. So was the groundbreaking album Blast Food by Spirallianz, in its own league with its technoid toughness and production brilliance. Today the two guys who presented this in 2000 belong to the absolute upper class of the techno scene with their project Extrawelt. Magical. "So that everyone is satisfied with the thing, so that everyone knows: This is Progressive, this is Goa music." In the Ruhr area distributor Nova Tekk became active, which made sure that vinyls and CDs with the new sound also went on the shelves of record stores. As the leading A&R (the one responsible for finding and selecting new artists) Alexander Ligowski was an extremely important character around 2000. He remembers: "Back then we were all sound researchers and so it was only logical from that point of view that every facet got a corresponding label. With Arne from Spirallianz / Midimiliz I initiated D.Drum to give the cinematic bombast

Progressive Trance as a genre - with many subgenres These three examples are proof of how diverse and different were releases at the beginning of the Progressive Trance era. While Spirit Zone always took an avant-garde approach and had a very large stylistic range, elsewhere specialized labels soon sprang up for the many facets of the young progressive genre. Doch nach einem relativ kurzen Boom kehrte dieses Genre in den Untergrund zurück, wo es ein kontinierliches aber nicht massenkompatibles Dasein pflegte. Das ändert sich in letzter Zeit jedoch. Adam, Mitbegründer des traditionsreichen Psychedelic Techno Labels Digital Diamonds und bekannt für seine Projekte Alic und Adamson, fasst den aktuellen Stand der Szene wie folgt zusammen: "Mich freut es sehr, dass Psychedelic Techno immer mehr an kultureller Relevanz gewinnt. Anfangs ist oft der Begriff Techtrance gefallen, aber Psytech/ Psychedelic Techno hat sich dann eben doch durchgesetzt. Wenn ich auf Partys spiele, beobachte ich häufig, dass immer mehr „old-school“ Goas, aber auch immer mehr „new-school“ Trancer oder auch Leute von außerhalb der Psy-Szene sich von Psytechno begeistern lassen. Ich denke, es war einfach mal an der Zeit für

etwas Neues, Frisches, jenseits der ausgetretenen Musikpfade. Daher ist es auch wunderbar zu sehen, wie vielfältig Psychedelic Techno sein kann: Es kann knallhart, düster, minimalistisch, aber auch sexy oder funky sein. Toll sind auch die vielen Kombinationen und stilistischen Crossovers, die diesen Sound einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich machen, welches du nicht zwangsläufig auf Psy-Events antreffen kannst. Psychedelic Techno expandiert immer mehr und mehr. Sehr cool ist auch der collaborative Charakter dieses Genres: Viele Labels und Acts arbeiten nicht „gegeneinander“ und betrachtet sich nicht als Konkurrenz, sondern eher als „ein Teil des Ganzen“ bzw. Teil der Psychedelic Techno-Bewegung. Wir unterstützen uns gegenseitig, anstatt uns das Wasser abzugraben, weil wir alle den Sound so sehr lieben und wir 100% hinter dem stehen, was wir machen. Innerhalb der letzten 10 Jahre sind, neben unserem Label Digital Diamonds auch viele neue und richtig gute Labels entstanden, wie unsere Freunde von Techgnosis Records, Soupherb Records, Bassic Records und Subios Records."

Or, to name a few more examples of the big Progressive House wave around 2004, the sets of the Portuguese Pena, Tobias & Daniel or Anne Joy & La NiĂąa from Germany as well as the sound of the British scene veteran James Monro at that time. In this Progressive House had a very wide range: Partly it was very melodic and in this way quite trance-like, but partly also very pop with remixes of great hits. So it's no wonder that this trend, despite its short-term popularity, eventually became a controversial topic among psychedelic purists. released their first The Delta Release. The track 'As A Child I Could Walk On The Ceiling' was by far the most awesome I'd heard so far, because it had this earthy thick and driving groove and managed to turn a dance floor into a closed film set without fast melodies or acid screws. Mega!", SBK remembers. Even though the album "Scizoeffective" released in 2000 sounds quite Goa from today's point of view, it is also considered to be one of the first milestones of a subgenre of progressive trance, characterized by a cool, industrial hardness and technoid brute force: Tech trance or psychedelic techno. The cult label Spirit Zone also took up this sound with the release of Blast Food, the first Spirallianz album. But after a relatively short boom this genre returned to the underground, where it enjoyed a continuous but mass un-compatible existence. However, this has changed lately. If you take a look at the program on the Alchemy Circle of the Boom you will notice a massive increase in tech trance artists. Adam, co-founder of the traditional psychedelic techno label Digital Diamonds and known for his projects Alic and Adamson, summarizes the current state of the scene as follows: "I am very pleased that psychedelic techno is gaining more and more cultural relevance. Im Großraum Progressive Trance ist Neelix ist ein Beispiel dafür. Und das Label Zenon Records. Gegründet vom australischen Produzenten Sensient entwickelte es schon sehr früh eine ganz spezielle Groove-Ästhetik: Sehr minimalistische Arrangements, geprägt von vertrackt-verschachtelten Rhythmen, kombiniert mit Samples und Sounds, die weniger durch ihre Abfolge, als vielmehr durch die ihnen

innewohnende Psychoakustik, Produktionsqualität und Klangfarbe extrem psychedelisch wirken. Das Ganze hat in aller Regel einen eher düsteren, nächtlich wirkenden Vibe. Gewisse Produktionen erinnern an minimalistische Progressive Trance Releases der ersten Stunden, multipliziert mit den Produktionstechniken von heute. Das Label Zenon führte diesen Stil mit derartiger Konsequenz und kontinuierlicher Qualität weiter, dass dieses Subgenre bis heute auch als Zenonesque beschrieben wird. Allerdings haben sich im Laufe der Jahre natürlich auch diverse andere Labels mit diesem Sound hervorgetan, so dass sich die Bezeichnung Dark Progressive etabliert hat.

Wie sich Progressive und Psytrance versöhnten Wie unser geschichtlicher Abriss zeigt, verzweigte sich Progressive Trance recht schnell in etliche Sub-Genres. Und die waren teilweise sehr weit entfernt von der ursprünglichen Idee von psychedelischer Trance Musik, auf der auch Progressive Trance letztendlich basiert. Matthias von IONO Records erinnert sich: "Im Jahre 2005 stellten einige der Labels, die bisher Progressive Trance veröffentlicht hatten, ihren Sound auf Progressive House um. Viele Progressive Psy Trance Fans hatten keine Quelle für neue Musik mehr und viele talentierte Künstler hatten kein Label mehr – an dieser Stelle

more and more "old-school" Goas, but also more and more "new-school" trancers or people from outside the Psy-scene get inspired by Psytechno. I think it was just time for something new, fresh, off the beaten track. That's why it's wonderful to see how versatile psychedelic techno can be: It can be brutal, dark, minimalistic, but also sexy or funky. Great as well are the many combinations and stylistic crossovers that make this sound accessible to a wider audience, which you can't necessarily find at Psy-events. Psychedelic techno is expanding more and more. The collaborative character of this genre is also very cool: Many labels and acts don't work "against each other" and don't see themselves as competitors, but rather as "part of the whole" or part of the psychedelic techno movement. We support each other instead of infighting because we all love the sound so much and we stand 100% behind what we do. Within the last 10 years, many new and really good labels have emerged besides our label

The trip to the darker side: "Zenonesque" - Dark Progressive Every now and then there are artists and labels who go for such an independent and revolutionary sound that their name becomes the byword of this sound. In the greater Progressive Trance area, Neelix is an example. And the label Zenon Records, which founded by the Australian producer Sensient very soon developed a very special groove aesthetic: very minimalistic arrangements, marked by intricate, nested rhythms, combined with

samples and sounds that seem extremely psychedelic not so much because of their sequence as because of their inherent psychoacoustics, production quality and timbre. As a rule, the whole thing has a rather dark, nocturnal vibe. Certain productions are reminiscent of minimalist Progressive Trance releases of the first hours, multiplied by today's production techniques. The label Zenon continued this style with such consistency and continuous quality that this subgenre is still described as zenonesque. However, in the course of the years, several other labels have also distinguished themselves with this sound, so that the name Dark Progressive has established itself. How Progressive and Psytrance re-conciliated As our historical summary shows, Progressive Trance quickly branched into several subgenres. Some of which were very far away from the original idea of psychedelic trance music, on which Progressive Trance is based.

Der israelische Produzent stellte schon 2015 in einem Interview mit der Zeitschrift "Lucy's Rausch" fest: „Vor ein paar Jahren war Progressive so um die 135 BPM und typischer Psytrance so um die 145 BPM. Aber die Zeiten ändern sich... Für mich ist 138 – 140 BPM die perfekte Geschwindigkeit. Das ist energetisch und nicht zu lahm, aber eben auch nicht zu schnell. Offenbar trifft es den Nerv von Progressive Trance und Psytrance Freaks gleichermaßen, es ist halt genau zwischen diesen beiden Richtungen.“

17 Matthias from IONO Records remembers: "In 2005, some of the labels that had released Progressive Trance so far changed their sound to Progressive House. Many Progressive Psytrance fans didn't have a source for new music any more and many talented artists didn't have a label any more - that's where IONO Music came in. I signed many of these artists to IONO and actually took a lot from those labels' catalogues who had changed their sound. Many of the artists had just about started and we developed together, with their sound - and with that the label grew again." Quite early a strong demand arose for a trance style that is

progressive but has a clear psychedelic line. In retrospect, IONO Music is one of the labels that has raised the flag for this kind of progressive and was thus pioneering for one of the most recent developments: Progressive Psytrance or Psy Prog. "Nowadays Progressive sound has changed a lot" says DJ Magical, who was one of the protagonists of the minimalistic, offbeat-heavy Progressive scene in Hamburg at the beginning of 2000. "Everything now has triplets and a lot of effect sounds. Many do remixes of commercial stuff. Really danceable... sometimes there are more breaks in it than anything else. Now it slowly

starts again that, as I think of it, psychedelic progressive trance is made, so below around a 16th bassline, above progressive sound." Only a few are as consistently successful with this kind of sound as is Ace Ventura. The Israeli producer already stated in 2015 in an interview with the magazine "Lucy's Rausch": "A few years ago Progressive was about 135 BPM and typical Psytrance about 145 BPM. But times are changing...For me 138 - 140 BPM is the perfect pace. This is energetic and not too lame, but then not too fast either. Apparently this hits the nerve of Progressive Trance and Psytrance freaks equally, it is just exactly between these two directions.â&#x20AC;&#x153;

When the two played on the Alternative Floor of the VooV, long serving Goa veterans and 18-year-old youngsters agreed: Trancey produced Progressive House is just great!

Freq – Strange Attractors (Iboga 2004) Ein großer Teil dessen, was nach diesem Album unter dem Label Progressive Trance lief und auch heute noch läuft, klingt wie eine Fußnote zu diesem Werk. A large part of what was and still is played after this album under the label Progressive Trance sounds like a footnote to this work.

Marcus Langer – Es Schneit Auch Sonntags (Earregular 2003) Earregular war ein großartiges Label, dass damals wunderbar dicke Vinyls mit wunderbar trancigem Sound zwischen progressivem House und Techno herausbrachte. Earregular was a great label that released wonderfully thick vinyls with a wonderfully trancy sound between progressive house and techno.

Lando – Minimal Mission (Liquid Audio Soundz 2001) Der Name des Album sagt alles. Tracks wie "LSD Suchmaschine" bestehen fast ausschließlich aus Rhythmus, was für ein "Trance" Album wirklich revolutionär war. The name of the album says it all. Tracks like "LSD Suchmaschine" consist almost exclusively of rhythm, which was really revolutionary for a "Trance" album.

S:O:N:U:S – Alice Is Amazed (Jumjam 2003) Ein Vorzeige-Beispiel für den "Hamburg Sound" von damals. Ultra trockenes Offbeat Arrangement, sehr minimalistisch und mit einer fröhlichen, fast schon ein bisschen poppigen Melodie. An example of the "Hamburg Sound" of that time. Cass & Slide – Opera (Fire 2000) Ein Beispiel für das, was in Deutschland als “UK Trance” gehandelt wurde. Großartige Künstler, großartiges Label, stilistisch so vielfältig wie kein anderes damals, auf ganz hohem Niveau. An example of what was traded in Germany as "UK Trance". Great artists, great label, stylistically as diverse as no other label at that time, on a very high level.

Kooler – Open (Dragonfly 2004) Sebastian Mullaert... damals wie heute einer der ganz, ganz Großen, wenn es um hypnotische Tanzmusik geht. Kooler war ein sehr housiges Projekte. Sebastian Mullaert... then as now one of the greats when it comes to hypnotic dance music. Kooler was a very housy project.

Reefer Decree – Curved Air (Iboga 2002) Der Lead-Synthie in diesem Track und wie er sich im Laufe der knapp 8 Minuten entwickelt ist einfach nur bahnbrechend. Der ganze Track oszilliert um diesen einen Sound. The lead synth in this track and how it evolves over the 8 minutes is just groundbreaking. The whole track oscillates around this one sound.

Hopefiend – Out of Reach (Flying Rhino 2001) Produziert mit chirurgischer Präzision. Ein Vorzeigebeispiel von minimalistisch-progressiver Ekstase. Und das wohl kreativste Plattencover in meiner Sammlung. Produced with surgical precision. An example of minimalistic-progressive ecstasy. And probably the most creative record cover in my collection.

Emou – Summer Is Old (Space Safari Remix) (Freeform 2002) Poppig, aber gut. Eine Zeitlang haben Vocals im Progressive Trance wirklich Spaß gemacht. Poppy, but good. For a while vocals in progressive trance were really fun.

Native Italian London resident shares his experiences of more than 20 years of Psytrance as DJ, promoter and producer. While looking ahead to his next scheduled release, a new 2 tracks ep on UK prog label Furthur Progressions Records, he talks about his role in society as an artist, what he loves most about his work, likes about himself the most, and also what he does during his time off, and more. Tell us a little about you and your work? I moved to London from my native Italy in 1997. Here I discovered Psytrance and the community. I've been directly involved with this beautiful movement for 20 years and it's still playing a major part in my life. I started as a dj and promoter of underground parties until eventually I took the leap forward into producing my own music in 2002 and... well, I'm still here :) Currently what projects are you working on? And what future plans have you chalked out for yourself? I'm actively writing music under 3 aliases, M-Theory is my full-on project whilst Cimi has more of a progressive flavour. The new project DM-Theory is instead a crossover between Psy and techno. I'm usually unable to plan long term

as life changes incredibly fast but I do my best to keep producing tunes and be up to date with modern production skills. The next scheduled release is a new 2 tracks ep from Cimi called 'New Synthesis’. It was released on the 11th March by the best UK prog label Furthur Progressions Records. Cimi has been a main-stay in their roster since the label was launched and 10 years on, I'm still in love with this bunch! We’re celebrating the 10 year anniversary in London on the 23rd March with label and international artists including myself, Multiphase, Allaby, Protonica and more. If you’re in the UK or beyond make sure you are there! As an artist, what role do you think you play in society? I believe every artist's role, regardless of the type of art, is of

being a contributor of joy, interaction and inspiration to the society. You obviously love what you do... but what do you love the most about your work? What I love the most of my work is a stomping happy and smiling dance floor blasting it with my music. It's absolutely the best reward and it gives me a full charge of energy to run back in the studio for more new music. Yeah, no one’s perfect, but there’s always something we really like about ourselves...what quality do you like about yourself the most? I'm someone who is respectful of others, I think it's an endangered quality. In this time and age people are getting used to not replying emails and messages, or even not returning calls, unless they know

there's something to be gained. This includes people you know or/and worked with for a number of years, not only party promoters :) I prefer to always reply, even if only with two lines, because I believe that it's better than blanking people and being careless.

Eventually, when I got to the festival I was supposed to play, the whole crew had a laugh about it. Actually, the promoter was happy to share the price of my f...up as he accepted the original flight was too early in the morning.

Any embarrassing moments? Yes, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d hate to disclose your secrets but weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d love to hear.

Excessive chopping dulls the axe. Time-outs are a must. What do you do when you take time off from creating? Got any hobbies?

Hehehe, every interview comes with an embarassing question. Well how about going to the wrong airport? Few years ago I had a gig in Europe and it was one of those joyful early morning flight. The taxi driver takes me to London Heathrow, I go to the check-in and the assistant makes me notice that my flight is actually leaving from London Gatwick!

When not in the studio I've got to deal with social media, connecting with people and friends, replying emails and so on. That takes most of the day away. However, in the evenings I love cooking good food and drinking good wine. I am also into traveling to unspoilt exotic locations, especially during the coldest months of winter.

At the end of the ride, everyoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s looking for some form of success (tangible or not), what does success mean to you? GOA 604 „604“oder auch „Six-Oh-Four“ – der weltweit bekannte Code für alles, was mit unseren liebsten Musikgenres Goa und Trance zu tun hat. Das numerische Äquivalent von "Goa“, dem von uns allen gefeierten psychedelischen Trance-Genre und Staat in Indien. Und können wir davon je genug kriegen? Sicher nicht, ein Feiertag muss her. Unglaublich, was für ungewöhnliche und kuriose Feiertage diesen Sommer ins Haus stehen: Da gibt es neben religiösen oder spirituellen Feiertagen zum Beispiel den Faulpelz-Tag und im Mai findet tatsächlich der „Tag der verlorenen Socke“ statt. Letzterer steht ganz im Zeichen eines der kuriosesten Mysterien des Alltags, dem Verschwinden einzelner Fußkleider – kennt jeder. Im Juli steht in den USA der ziemlich verlockende „Mojito Tag“ an. Eine Huldigung für einen Drink, den sich in lauen Sommernächten so einige gerne schmecken lassen, gibt es also auch. Und nicht zu vergessen: Bald ist „Weltkatzentag“. Selbst die Potheads unter euch haben es sich im Frühjahr an 420 gut gehen lassen. Und das bringt uns auf eine Idee… „Wir brauchen einen Feiertag für die Goa-Szene! 604, das Kiffer-Pendant 420 oder entfernt auch den Dabbing-Code 710, drängt sich der 4. Juni förmlich als „internationaler Goa-Trance-Tag“ auf. Angelehnt an die US-amerikanische Datumsschreibweise, 4th of June oder 6-04, versteht sich. Und 604 ist nun mal Goa. It’s a match. Perfekt zu Beginn des Festivalsommers wäre der 4. Juni also der Tag eines jeden Jahres, an dem die musikalischen und gesellschaftlichen Errungenschaften der Goa- und Trance-Szene weltweit gefeiert würden. Wir stellen uns da ungefähr folgendes Szenario vor: „Zelebrieren und Feiern, am internationalen Goa-Trance-Tag!" Zigtausende Musikliebhaber, Hippies, Trancer, Psy-Freaks und Partyanimals auf der ganzen Welt feiern ihren liebsten Feiertag: 604. Der Party-Hype wird ja eh gerade schon ordentlich durch den Festival-Boom in vielen Ländern angeheizt. Seit wann und wodurch der Code 604 in den

allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch überging, ist zwar nicht sicher geklärt. Um so mehr Spaß macht es bestimmt bei einer gepflegten Party über die verschiedensten Theorien zu diskutieren. Und einen passenden Social-Media-Account für unseren brandneuen Feiertag hat sich auch schon ein findiger Psy-naut gesichert: @InternationalGoaDay gibt es bereits seit ein paar Jahren unter dem Titel „International Goa Trance Day - 604“ auf Facebook. Der Seitenbetreiber hält die Idee vom Feiertag wohl auch für eine brillante, auch wenn es auf der Page bisher kaum Likes oder Beiträge gibt, und bringt es in der Kurzinfo auf den Punkt: „Spreading the celebration of the international goa trance day“ , 4th of June!“ Also, ihr könnt anfangen zu Liken und die frohe Kunde auf den kommenden Festivals zu verbreiten – der erste Schritt zum Feiertag für die Goa-Szene ist gemacht. Und am 4.06. heißt es dann: Einen fröhlichen internationalen Goa-Trance-Tag 2018 euch allen!

And could we possibly ever get enough of that? I don't think so. It’s time for a holiday. Unbelievable, what unusual and crazy holidays we can look forward to, this upcoming summer: In addition to religious or spiritual holidays, the „Lazy Day" and in May the "Lost Sock Day" actually will be more or less celebrated. This day seriously is all about one of the most bizarre mysteries of everyday life, the disappearance of footwear - everyone has experienced this. Every year in July, the rather tempting "Mojito Day" takes place in the USA. So there is also a homage to a drink that most of us like to enjoy especially on warm summer nights. And not to forget: Soon it’s „International Cat Day". Even the Potheads among us have heavily enjoyed 420 this spring. So we came up with an idea… "We need a holiday for the Goa scene! And a matching Social-Media-Account for our brand new holiday has already been secured by a thoughtful Psy-naut, too: @InternationalGoaDay exists under the title "International Goa Trance Day - 604" already since a couple of years on Facebook. The site operator probably also thinks the idea of the holiday is a brilliant one, even if there are few likes or is hardly traffic on the page so far. Yet the short info sums it up: "Spreading the celebration of the international goa trance day, 4th of June!". So, you can start to like the page now and spread the good news during the upcoming festival season - the first step towards a real holiday of the Goa scene has been made. Ich habe da einen Typen kennengelernt, der ist DJ. Und spielt auf richtig großen Events. Jetzt hat er mich auf dieses Festival eingeladen, und er sagt ich würde da “AAA” bekommen. Ist das was Sexuelles? Ich mag den Typen echt gern. Aber ich bin auch ein bisschen nervös, denn ich war noch nie in einem Backstage und so. Wie sollte ich mich verhalten, worauf muss ich achten? Keine Sorge: AA A bedeutet nichts Sexuelles. Zumindest ist das eher unwahrscheinlich. AAA steht für "Access All Areas" – also Zugang für alle Bereiche. Damit bist du definitiv in den Kreisen der wirklich coolen Typen unterwegs. Im Backstage ist es wichtig, die richtige Mischung aus abgeklärt und total witzig zu finden. Du solltest also hin und wieder gelangweilt aus der Wäsche gucken, denn du hast das alles ja schon 1000 Mal gesehen. Dann aber wieder hysterische Witze reißen, denn du bist immerhin ein crazy Partytier. In Gesprächen solltest du das Festival grundsätzlich immer mit anderen Events vergleichen. Und immer wieder erwähnen, dass du momentan "total busy" bist (benutze genau diese Formulierung), natürlich mit kreativen Projekten.

I met this guy, he's a DJ. He plays at some real big events. Now he asked me to come with him to this huge festival, and he said I'll have "AAA" there. Is that a sexual thing, something kinky even? Anyway, I really like this guy. But I've never been with a DJ, in the backstage and all that. That makes me a bit nervous. Can you tell me how should deal with this? Don't worry: AAA is nothing sexual or kinky. Probably not. AAA stands for Access All Areas – so it means that you get everywhere at a festival. Which again means that you'll hang with some seriously cool people. When you are backstage, it's very important to find the right mix of "seen it all, heard it all" and "I'm a freaky party girl". Means: Make sure you look kind of bored, because you've had thousands of great parties already. But then you have to switch to being totally funny and hyperactive, because you are a party animal after all. When you talk to people in backstage always make comparisons to other festivals and events. Also, always mention that you are "totally busy" (use this very phrase) at the moment, as in: Busy with some creative projects.

Hallo! Ich habe erst letzten Sommer angefangen auf Goa zu feiern. Ich war auf vielen Festivals. Jetzt habe ich meine erste Wintersaison erlebt. Irgendwann ist eine Party ja vorbei und man wird dann auf diese privaten Afterhours eingeladen. Ich fühle mich da immer noch etwas unsicher, weil ich nicht weiß, wie man sich auf so einer Afterhour verhält. Kannst du mir bitte kurz die wichtigsten Spielregeln erklären? Natürlich, das will ich gerne tun! Regel 1: Wenn du schlafen willst, kannst du auch nach Hause gehen. Regel 2: Reden, reden, reden. Wer schweigt, hat verloren. Die auf einer Afterhour zu wählenden Themen sind prinzipiell offen, jedoch solltest du spätestens nach einer Stunde über metaphysisch-erkenntnistheoretische Probleme der Quantenphysik reden, über tiefsitzende Traumata aus deiner Kindheit oder über Verschwörungstheorien aller Art und wie die Deutsche Bahn ein Teil davon ist. Merke: Reden ist auf eine Afterhour ungefähr 10-mal so wichtig wie zuhören. Merke: Monolog, nicht Dialog. Regel 3: Komm bloss nicht auf die Idee, etwas zu essen mitzubringen. Dadurch gibst du dich als blutiger Anfänger zu erkennen. Nein, auch dein politisch korrekter Superfood hat hier nichts verloren. Außer natürlich in den bereits erwähnten Monologen. Kaugummis sind der einzig akzeptable Feststoff. Regel 4: Verstecke eine Flasche Billig-Schnapps und hol sie raus, wenn alles andere leergetrunken ist. Dein sozialer Afterhour-Status wird sofort in die Höhe steigen.

Hello! I joined the Goa scene last summer. I went to many festivals. Now I’m experiencing my first indoor season. At some point the club part ies are over and I was invited to those private afterhours. But I still feel kind of insecure, it’s all still so new to me. What are the Do's and Dont's at thes e afterhours? Can you give me some tipps? Of course, I'm happy to do so! Rule #1: If you wanna sleep, go home. Rule #2: Talk, talk, talk. The moment you fall silent, you lose the afterhour game. You can talk about pretty much everything. But make sure to include deep, complex subjects like the metaphysical and empirical chall enges of theoretical quantum physics, talk abou t deep-rooted traumas of your childhood and your family life, and don't forget about cons piracy theories and how public transportation is all part of it. Remember: At any afterhour, talki ng is 10-times as important as listening. Thin k monologue, not dialogue. Rule #3: Neve r ever bring food. That would make you look like a total beginner straight away. Or, even worse: An undercover cop. Nope, even your polit ical 100% correct superfood is not for the afterhour s, even though it's still a great subject for one of the aforementioned monologues. Chewing gum is totally acceptable though. Rule #4: Hide a bottle of ultra cheap alcohol somewhere and get it out once all the other drinks are finished. It will boost your social afterhour status immediat ely.

Barrierefreiheit auf Psy-Events geht uns alle an

Im Sommerurlaub geht’s auf Festival oder zwischendurch mal ein spontaner Wochenend-Abstecher Richtung „Goa-Highway“ A24 – das ist für uns alle ganz normal. Für Menschen, die ein Handicap haben, ist das aber häufig ein unnötig schwieriges Unterfangen. Eine einfache Anreise, Barrierefreiheit und inklusive Services vor Ort gibt es auf den allermeisten Psytrance-Festivals und GOAs nämlich nicht, auch wenn der One-Love-Spirit hier nur allzu gerne unterstrichen wird. Dass auch Menschen mit Behinderung tanzen, lachen, quatschen, Spaß haben und am Festivalsommer teilnehmen wollen, kommt trotzdem nur den allerwenigsten Veranstaltern und Organisatoren in den Sinn. Denn, was viele über den Partyspaß vergessen: Mit körperlichen Einschränkungen kommt man nicht mal eben so auf’s nächste Festivalgelände im Grünen, wie alle anderen auch. Nicht nur deshalb bleibt der Besuch der Lieblings-Veranstaltung für Menschen mit besonderen Bedürfnissen häufig ein unerfüllbarer Wunsch. Ein Paar Psy-Festivals gehen zum Glück bereits mit gutem Beispiel

voran. Auf dem Boom Festival in Portugal und dem New Healing Festival in Deutschland, gibt es Strukturen, die einen erleichterten Zugang ermöglichen und viele Services vor Ort, die Menschen mit Behinderung unterstützen. Klar, die absolute Mehrheit von uns ist gerne hilfsbereit und macht sich nicht über Menschen die ein Handicap haben lustig, oder schließt sie gar aktiv vom Partymachen aus. Es geht bei Barrierefreiheit auf Festivals aber um viel mehr als ein

tolerantes Miteinander. Wenn ein Festival allen Besuchern die Party ihres Lebens bieten will, müssen sich die Betreiber und Besucher auf Menschen mit Behinderungen einstellen. Was bedeutet das genau? An- und Abreise Reservierte Parkplätze gibt’s vor jedem Supermarkt. Wenn Parkzonen wie diese auch am Festivaleingang eingerichtet werden, könnte das vielen Menschen den Zugang erleichtern. Leider ist das oft nicht der Fall. Ein barrierefreier Shuttle-Service zum Platz wäre eine Alternative. Shuttles gibt es bei den meisten Festivals ja sowieso schon. Wenn hier eine Handvoll geschulter Leute ein besonderes Augenmerk auf Menschen die Unterstützung benötigen legt, wäre die erste Hürde zu einer entspannten An- und Abreise für alle bereits überwunden.

Camping für Menschen mit besonderen Bedürfnissen Campen gehört zu Festival-Spaß dazu. Ein spezieller Campingplatz neben angepassten Duschen und Toiletten ist bei mehrtägigen Events ein Muss. So einen gibt es zum Beispiel auf dem Fusion Festival. In so einem Camp muss allerdings 24 Stunden am Tag ein Ansprechpartner zur Verfügung stehen, der sich mit den besonderen Bedürfnissen der Camper auskennt. Dass es einen Platz gibt, an dem temperaturempfindliche Medikamente im Kühlschrank aufbewahrt werden können, sollte ebenfalls bei Veranstaltungsplanung mit bedacht werden. Ein Stromanschluss ist gerade bei Besuchern mit schweren Behinderungen, die auf Atmungsgeräte o.ä. angewiesen sind, unabdingbar. Mit Fragen wie diesen kennen sich die bereits vor Ort eingesetzten Sanitäter auch bestens aus.

Kontakt Die Möglichkeit sich bei Veranstaltern zum Thema Barrierefreiheit informieren zu können kann vieles einfacher machen und Missverständnissen vorbeugen. Um den Festivalaufenthalt mit Behinderung gut vorzuplanen, sollte man sich per E-Mail oder Telefon im Vorfeld einer Veranstaltung an die Betreiber eines Festivals wenden. Deutschland oder dem portugiesischen Boom Festival gehört das aber zum Glück der Vergangenheit an. Hier gibt es nicht nur die nötige Infrastruktur für Gäste mit Behinderung – Alte, Schwangere und Familien finden hier ebenso den passenden Rahmen zum Feiern, Musikhören, sich Ausprobieren und Spaß haben wie jeder andere auch. Das ist den Veranstaltern, aber auch dem Eigenengagement der Besucher zu verdanken. Und es zeigt, dass wir durch ein entspanntes Miteinander und mit ein bisschen Extra-Aufwand schon viel bewegen könnten.

Auf dem Festivalgelände Jeder muss mal, da sind angepasste Toiletten auch in der Nähe der Floors natürlich richtig wichtig. Sanitäranlagen wie diese sollten auch auf dem Geländeplan eingezeichnet sein, was zumindest bei vielen großen Veranstaltungen schon der Fall ist. Aber kann man mit einfachen Mitteln nicht noch viel mehr tun? Ebene Wege, Rampen, wenn kleinere Hindernisse überbrückt werden müssen, und niedrige Theken an den Bars helfen vielen Menschen mit Handicap schon enorm weiter. Außerdem ist ein Shuttle-Service auf weitläufigen Areas praktisch, damit man auch mit Handicap rechtzeitig beim nächsten Lieblings-Act ankommt – und im Zweifel auch wieder sicher zurück ins Camp. Den gibt’s so bisher aber nur auf der Boom.

Spaß beiseite – Community statt Ignoranz Zugegeben, es gibt auch Dinge, die sich im Vorfeld nicht immer einfach so regeln lassen. Bei Regen, Wind und überhaupt schlechtem Wetter stoßen nämlich meistens alle Festivalgänger und auch die Macher an ihre Grenzen. Auf vielen Events in abgelegenen Industrie-Locations oder in der freien Natur gibt die Infrastruktur befestigte Wege einfach oft nicht

Accessibility at Psy events concerns us all

During summer holidays we head for a festival or leave for a spontaneous weekend trip along the German "Goa Highway" A24 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; a thing that appears quite normal to us. But for people who have to face life with a handicap, it's often an unnecessarily difficult undertaking. An easy-to-follow journey, accessibility to the festival ground and comprehensive on-site services are lacking at most Psytrance festivals and Gatherings, even though the one-love spirit is all too often underlined on these occasions. Surprisingly, the fact that people with disabilities also like to dance, laugh, chat, have fun and take part at the festival summer doesn't even cross the minds of many people and doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t bother most of the festival organizers. What many people forget while having fun at the party: With physical limits you can't just reach the next festival area in the countryside like everyone else. Not only that is why attending a popular event for people with special needs often remains an unfulfillable wish. Fortunately, a few Psy-Festivals are already setting a good example. At Boom Festival in Portugal and

New Healing Festival in Germany, there are structures that facilitate access and many on-site services that provide support for people with disabilities. And that should be the case wherever we go. >For the past two decades, Boom Festival has been bringing personal and social transformation.< -Claudia NĂłbrega, Boom Special Needs Camp Orga What does barrier-free accessibility mean when it comes to festivals? Sure, the vast majority of us like to be helpful and usually won't make fun of people having a handicap or even actively exclude them from partying. But there it is about so much more when we talk about accessibility at festivals than a tolerant coexistence. If a festival wants to offer the party of a lifetime to all visitors,

the organizers and guests have to be prepared that people with disabilities will be participating. But what exactly does that actually mean? Arrival and departure Reserved parking spaces are available outside of every supermarket. If parking zones like these would also be set up at festival entrances, this would facilitate access for many people. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. A barrier-free shuttle service to the venue would be an interesting alternative. Most festivals already have shuttles anyway. If a handful of people who have been trained would pay special attention to people who need support, the first obstacle to a comfortable arrival and departure for everyone would already have been overcome.

On the festival area Everybody has a need, so adapted toilets near the floors are of course essential. Sanitary facilities such as these should appear on the site plan, which is already the case at many large-scale events. But couldn't we do much more by simple methods? Plane paths, ramps, if smaller obstacles have to be bridged, and low counters at the bars enormously help many handicapped people already. Furthermore, a shuttle service on spacious grounds comes in handy in order to make sure that handicapped people arrive on time for their next favourite act - and, if there are any concerns, safely return them to the camping site. But so far that's only ever the case at Boom. Camping for people with special needs Camping is also part of the festival fun. A special camping site next to adapted showers and toilets is a must-have for events that run several days. This is the case at the Fusion Festival, for example. In such a camp, a contact person has to be available 24 hours a day and know the special needs of the campers. The fact that there is a place where temperature-sensitive medication can be stored in the refrigerator should also be taken into account when organizing a camp. A power supply is absolutely necessary, especially for visitors with severe disabilities who are dependent on respiratory equipment or other devices. The paramedics who are already on site are very familiar with questions such as these.

Contact The opportunity to get information about accessibility can make things easier and prevent misunderstandings. In order to plan a festival stay with a handicap well in advance, one should contact the event organiser by e-mail or telephone in advance. The New Healing Festival is a real role model here. Customer service in the form of a hotline or an infomail address is therefore the key when it comes to the topic of accessibility at festivals. In addition, contact persons and trained personnel should be easy to find on site. All jokes aside - the community must replace the ignorance We have to admit that there are also things that cannot be easily arranged in advance. Rain, wind and bad weather in general often push all festival goers and the creators to their limits. At many events in far-off industrial locations or in the countryside, the infrastructure simply doesn't provide adequate paved pathways. For people with disabilities, there will remain obstacles preventing a perfect solution in the future, with

the exception of the fact that everyone can get involved. And another thing is often forgotten: People with disabilities sometimes still get a funny look in the club or at the open-air party as to whether we agree for the most part that we are "one big family". At the New Healing Festival and the Fusion in Germany or the Portuguese Boom Festival this is luckily a thing of the past. Not only does the festivals have the required infrastructure for guests with disabilities - old people, pregnant women and families will find the right setting for celebrating, listening to music, experiencing each other and having fun just like everyone else. We owe this to the event organisers, but also to the commitment of the visitors themselves. And it demonstrates that we could achieve a lot through working together in a spirit of relaxation and with a little extra effort. >We are eager to celebrate individuality and pluralism this festival summer 2019!<

10 YEARS AGO "Stilistische Vielfalt ist auf Trance Festivals schon lange keine Seltenheit mehr: Berührungsängste mit anderen Genres wurden überwunden und so findet der Besucher heute eine enorme Bandbreite interessanter Tanzmusik". Laut der im Heft ausgewerteten Leserumfrage wünschen sich immerhin 29% mehr Techno, Minimal und Progressive House auf Festivals. Im Jahr 2008 konnte man z.B. im Dance Temple der Boom tatsächlich noch Tracks wie Thomas Schumachers “Red Purple” hören. Heute ist eine derartige stilistische Vielfalt schon lange eine Seltenheit – wahrscheinlich aufgrund der Tatsache, dass Psytrance an und für sich sehr vielseitig geworden ist. Zum großen Titelthema The Future of Djing – Die Zukunft des Auflegens: “Es ist noch nicht all zu lange her, da wurden CD Aufleger von ihren Vinyl spielenden Kollegen belächelt. Ein richtiger DJ, so hieß es damals immer wieder, spielt Vinyls! CDs sind was für Leute, die nicht auflegen können!” Genau das Gleiche sagten dann später ja die CD-Aufleger zu den Laptop- und USB-Auflegern. Beide haben in aller Regel keine Ahnung, wie man zwei sich drehende Platten synchron hält. Aber kann man DJ-Kultur wirklich auf diesen Aspekt reduzieren? Und welcher Trance DJ konnte oder kann eigentlich scratchen...? "Als legaler Cannabis-Ersatz wurde Spice im vergangenen Jahr schnell ein großes Thema, nicht nur in

Raucherkreisen. Verantwortlich für die durchaus kräftige Rauschwirkung dieses Mittels sind die beigemischten synthetischen Substanzen CP-47,497 und JWH-018, die dem natürlichen THC chemisch und von der Wirkung her sehr ähnlich sind. Mitte Januar wurden diese beiden Substanzen nun per Eilverfahren unter das Betäubungsmittelgesetz gestellt und somit illegal.” MXE, Bromo-DragonFLY, C-3PO... Research Chemicals, verkauft als Badesalze und Räuchermischungen, waren damals wie heute eine spannende Möglichkeit, im legalen Bereich high zu werden. THE ProgrammER Soltek hatte den Tee noch nicht zu Ende gezent, als er das Klappern in der Kiste zum ersten Mal hörte und was er erhörte, gefiel ihm so richtig gar nicht. Es war schon immer sonnenklar gewesen, dass die Aussetzung der Wartungsfristen der Schmierstellen eines dramatischen Tages ein essentielles Funzionsproblem bedingen würden, aber nicht einmal ER hätte damit gerechnet, dass es so schnell passieren würde. Soltek nahm noch ein paar X Faktor Algorithmen in die Analyse, aber die Betrachtung des sich anbahnenden Totalschadens wurde nicht besser. Im Gegenteil. Normalerweise war das immer der Part, wo auf zauberhafte Art und Weise die geliebten Helferinnen sich helfend und rettend in Szene zu setzen pflegten, aber Soltek wusste definitiv, dass die gesamte Abteilung im Urlaub war und er alleine auf sich gestellt sein und bleiben würde. Ein Seitenblick auf den defizitären Kontostand der Extraleben bestätigte seine Wahrnehmung, dass es eng wurde bzw: Er realisierte: dieses Mal war es wirklich soweit. Der Blick auf die Monitorsäule zeigte, dass sämtliche Aktienkurse an allen Börsen im Galaxium in den Keller fielen. Sein Marktwert war bereits entschwunden und ihm blieb nicht einmal ein Zündholz für das Anzünden der Abschiedskerze. Soltek fühlte sich irgendwie ungerecht behandelt und wollte mit dem Hadern fortsetzen, als das Klappern sich in ein großes Getöse verwandelte und er fasziniert den gewaltigen Obertonkaskaden der kollabierenden Himmelsmechanik

lauschte. Er fand das diese apokalyptische Situation irgendwie etwas faszinierendes an sich hatte und bedauerte, dass es ab nun in ganz kurzer Zeit niemanden mehr geben würde, mit dem er dieses Faszinosum besprechen könnte. Das Gekrache steigerte sich ins schier Unermessliche und er konzentrierte sich auf sein letztes Ausatmen, so wie es im klassischen Qi Fu an der Sternenakademie gelehrt wird. Er nahm sich vor, die Sache mit Anstand zu Ende zu bringen und stimmte den Ton des finalen Endes an als - : ………nichts passierte. Soltek konnte den Einatmenimpuls nicht zurückhalten, zu sehr interessierte ihn, was dem Ende aller Dinge ein so unerwartetes Ende bereitet hatte. Es was der große Programmierer. Seine Engel der Vorsehung hatten ihm unermessliche endlose ewige Langeweile geoffenbart und das war nicht in seinem Sinne, also programmierte er, quasi on the fly, eine extra Scriptzeile, die alle Beteiligten direkt auf das Anfangsfeld schickte und dabei drei Mal über Los kreisen liess, „erwerbe 8 x tra Zeitalter mit allem drum und dran“ Es klingelte an der Kabinentür und seine favorisierten Cosmo Girls kamen mit ihren faszinierenden Cyber Sexytimers xxY herein. He found that this apocalyptic situation was somehow fascinating and regretted that from now on, in a very short time, there would be no one left to discuss this fascination. The clanking increased to the seemingly immeasurable and he focused on his last exhalation, as taught in the classic Qi Fu at the Star Academy. He resolved to finish the matter with decency and agreed the tone of the final end as -: ......... nothing happened. Soltek could not hold back the impulse to inhale, he was much too interested in what had brought the end of all things to such an unexpected end. It was the big programmer. His Angels of Providence had revealed immeasurable endless eternal boredom to him and this wasn’t what he had imagined, so he programmed, almost on the fly, an extra line of script that sent everyone involved directly to the opening field and let them circle three times " 8 x tra era with all the trimmings " The doorbell rang and his favourite cosmo girls came in with their mesmerizing cyber sexytimers xxY. With the reddest lipstick he had ever seen, they painted a huge PPPAAAARRTTYYY in 5 D letters on his view slot.
