June 20-28 Orkney
The Cumnock Music Festival and Carnival is organised by Create a voluntary company and charity set up to establish a much needed music and arts centre in the area. The festival has been running for 10 years and getting bigger each year. The event runs over two days at Cumnock Town Hall and Woodroad Park from 7.30pm each evening with the Carnival starting at 12 noon on the Saturday.
The St Magnus Festival is Orkney's annual celebration of the arts. Founded in 1977 by Orkney's distinguished resident composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, the Festival has grown from small beginnings into one of Britain's most highly regarded and adventurous arts events. For 2013, a celebration of folk tales, myths and legends comes to Orkney with symphony orchestra, ensembles, music theatre, cabaret, opera and burlesque. 2013 also sees a bicentennial celebration of the life of the Orcadian explorer John Rae.
As always the Insider Festival will be found at Inshriach, near Aviemore, in the highlands of Scotland.
