Ok. I’m going to tell you a little secret about this piece. Yes, it’s an original text, but it didn’t start out that way. In fact, I did something very (very) foolish – I set a poem prior to asking permission to do so. And, as is often the case, I wasn’t permitted to use the text. SO – I needed to make a decision – discard the piece OR write an original poem that would fit the architecture of the work (something that has happened to some other choral folks I now). I chose the latter, and over a few days on a performance tour in New York, I wrote the new text. Enjoy some elongated diphthongs at the beginning of the piece, vocalists! A brilliant performance by Mikael Wedar and the St Jacobs Ungdomskör is available online as a reference.
