The world of theatre is filled with endless possibilities – as are your world.
THEATRE It is both fun as well as demanding to attend the Theatre Line. We start working from day one where we focus on you and the creative process. You will be working with characters, physical training, play, improvisation and text – all indispensable elements for improving your acting skill. When you are practicing, improvising or playing a character in a performance you will be working intensely with yourself and your ability to gain empathy and express yourself. You are constantly training and sharpening your senses, imagination and body. We are focusing on you and on developing your skills regardless of your current level.
And you are not alone! We also focus on developing your ability to work in ensembles. As a theatre student you will be involved in two to three performances. And we will be travelling far into the world of theatre. Maybe you will be performing a modern, raw piece of German drama or we will collaborate with some of the other students on a Shakespeare classic in a modern setup with music, dance and acrobatics. Everything is possible at the Theatre Line. We will also be working with the other elements of the theatre such as scenography, stage, masks, costumes, lights and sound. Everything has to come together to create the perfect performance.
During the course, we will invite wellknown and experienced actors to come and host workshops or lectures and share their experiences and methods. At the Theatre Line, you will have the opportunity to test yourself as an actor and explore your drive and passion for the profession. You will be involved in minor and larger setups, test your voice, refine your technique, work with improvising and develop your skills to create a character. We will give you the opportunity to excel and grow – both as an actor and a person.
THE COURSE will include:
ACTING TECHNIQUES
A solid foundation is needed if you wish to master the art of acting. We will therefore work with a wide range of acting techniques which gives you professional basis and personal strength. A strong personality creates a powerful actor.
VOICE TRAINING
The way you use your voice is part of creating the integrated character. We will train your voice and speech through physical exercises focusing on your breathing, composure and overall body support. When you are confident of the free flow of your voice, you are ready to begin your personal empathy and to release a character.
IMPROVISATION
Here, we will focus on a playful exploring of your creative potential. During the teaching, we will create an atmosphere where your own spontaneous abilities can flourish.
CHARACTER WORK
The best way to secure the authenticity and humanity is a solid and detailed understanding of the characters in a play. Through a profound study that needs you to be honest and vulnerable, we will begin to create believable and vivid characters.
THEATRE THEORY AND HISTORY
You have to know your theory. Therefore, you will receive teaching in theatre history, theory, acting theory and text analysis. It takes a strong
theoretic foundation if you want to master the art of acting. It is also important to know the history of the theatre. We will therefore give you a general insight into the history of acting as well as the theatre. When you know the history, you can find your own place in it.
PHYSIODRAMA
It is important that you know how to move your body on the stage. It it not enough only to master your voice and articulation. You also need to know how to convey emotions and various moods through your body language. That is why we will introduce you to a wide range of physical exercises which help you to bring your physical expressions in tune with your lines and characters.
IN GENEREL
The teaching takes place in our great theatre hall, where there is room for setting up any performance. Our costume cellar is placed in the theatre basement and contains every beautiful, fun and unique costume you can imagine. We also have a lot of props that allows us to create every scenic expression as well as mood in our performances. The theatre hall and the costume cellar are at your disposal at all hours, which gives you the opportunity to rehearse whenever you want. At the Theatre Line, you have the possibility to work with theatre all day long. At the end of the course we go on tour, where you will try living the life of a professional actor and try out everything you have learned at the Theatre Line – on a new stage, every night.
