FLOWING WONDER: STEELCASE NEXT PROJECT

This NEXT Steelcase Design Competition project focuses on the NEXT Robotics Offce located in Boston, Massachusetts. As a child, we’re flled with an innate sense of wonder and curiosity which lead us on an endless path of discovery. A similar sense of this wonder and curiosity is replicated in Boston with the numerous universities located throughout the city. Boston is a hub for students from all over the world who harbor this sense of wonder, ready to begin a fresh, new chapter of their lives. The NEXT Robotics Offce space aims to evoke that sense of wonder and curiosity that’s felt as a child, and as a new resident of the city of Boston. Through the concept of ‘fowing wonder’, this offce will contain moments of wonder, such as in the Playground and Common Room, that spark discovery and curiosity in its employees and all those who visit. f

For A Five-Course Meal, consisting of fve group members including myself, each group member chose a dish to create. Following our chosen theme, Around the World in One Meal, each dish represented a different country. Step-by-step orthographic drawings were created to demonstrate the process of, in my case, creating Vietnamese Spring Rolls, which is the dish that I chose to make. To bring all of the chosen dishes together, a fnal table was created that we collectively designed.

This project involved creating different shapes on Adobe Illustrator from a toss-up of cut up pieces of paper, and then overlaying that with newspaper text. A grid was then created out of three chosen letters on Adobe Illustrator, and both pieces were combined. Eventually, two colors were added as well as various images to create a cohesive piece that was done on Adobe Photoshop.

For this analytique, we had to choose a building that we admire, and I chose the Taj Mahal. After putting together various images of both the interior and exterior of the Taj, I hand drew this analytique of the Taj Mahal consisting of two interior details, a foor plan detail, an exterior view, and a foral motif.

During my summer internship at OTJ Architects, I primarily worked on these two projects. I was able to work on editing and adding information to various plans (demolition, construction, RCPs, fnish plans, etc) as well as help create different project schedules. For both projects, I created, labeled and dimensioned elevations for millwork and glass panels, and helped create detail drawings for wall types, foor transitions and millwork. Lastly, I helped one of my supervisors choose materials and create material palettes for both projects, and eventually inputted some of those options into Revit to fnalize the renderings.
