Then we came up with a revolutionary design that allows the rear seat to slide away and enable the outer seats to converge diagonally, creating even more leg and shoulder room for two people.

Seating versatility N Versatile seating and a spacious interior mean the Ford Focus C-MAX can accommodate up to five people and larger luggage items.

1. Carrying capacity The versatile 5-seat system of the Ford Focus C-MAX gives you both space and comfort with no compromise on driving quality or style. There is more than enough space for two bicycles, securely held on the internal bike rack.

(Accessory) 2. Rear seat stowage box The stowage box fits between the rear seats for greater comfort and versatility. As well as being ideal for storing items on long trips, the lid doubles-up as a comfortable armrest for rear seat passengers.

Whether you’re carrying sports equipment to the great outdoors or bringing back that special piece of furniture, Ford Focus C-MAX is impressively adaptable. Its intelligent interior design is the key to this enhanced luxury.

Rear seat versatility also provides an array of load- and people-carrying possibilities. All models accommodate five people, with three comfortably seated in the rear. The unique Comfort Seat System (standard on LX, Zetec and Ghia) incorporates an adjustable rear centre seat. This seat slides neatly away, enabling the outer seats to converge diagonally, increasing space for two people. The centre rear seatback also folds forward to reveal a handy flat table for work or play.

For maximum flexibility, the Ford Focus C-MAX offers a range of smart and functional stowage solutions, including a sunglasses holder (standard on LX, Zetec and Ghia) and lidded underfloor compartments in front of the rear seats.

Smooth, responsive power comes from a choice of petrol or diesel engines, matched to a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox, a Durashift CVT or a 4-speed automatic transmission – all operated via a gearshift lever mounted on the instrument panel. The Durashift CVT transmission lets you switch between an automatic and manual mode. In manual mode you can tip up and down between the seven forward sequential gears, simulating a manual transmission.

The Electric Parking Brake can be applied at the flick of a switch. The smartly designed switch, along with the integrated ashtray, allows for greater stowage in the centre console.

Balanced suspension, smoother drive The Ford Focus C-MAX uses the acclaimed Control Blade independent rear suspension system that is found on the Ford Focus. The Control Blade is a light, yet strong, onepiece pressed steel component that greatly improves stability and active safety. This system also uses specially designed suspension bushes so the wheels can move forwards and back as well as up and down, to absorb bumps and cushion impact harshness.

This high level of safety can all be put down to the car’s Intelligent Protection System (IPS) – Ford’s holistic approach to integration of restraint systems. This includes six airbags, a load-limiting steering column, front seat belt pyrotechnic pre-tensioners and a tougher body structure optimised for crash-worthiness. It incorporates full-size driver’s and front passenger’s airbags , side airbags and front/rear side curtain airbags. And now, to protect your most precious cargo, the Ford Focus C-MAX is the first car in its class to achieve a 4-star Euro NCAP rating for child protection* with its exceptional child safety levels. The car has also been considered a ‘Best Pick’ for Whiplash Injury Protection by the independent Swedish insurance company Folksam, an industry-leading group in whiplash research and testing.

Child restraint system Ford Focus C-MAX has ISOFIX mounting provision as standard. ISOFIX is an internationally standardised attachment system for child seats in cars, and has been developed to reduce the possibility of incorrect installation of child seats. Direct connection of the child seat with the car body, independent of the seat belts, makes it easy to use and provides improved protection for the child.

Allergy-friendly environment All passenger compartment materials in Ford Focus C-MAX were selected to ensure minimal allergy and health risk, and underwent rigorous testing by Ford, the German TÜV and the British Allergy Foundation to ensure that allergic reaction potential was minimised. As a result, Ford Focus C-MAX is the first vehicle worldwide ever to receive the endorsement of TÜV, the accredited international testing organisation, and to be awarded the British Allergy Foundation’s ‘Seal of Approval’, for its allergy-friendly properties.

Control Blade independent rear suspension is more effective at cushioning impacts than torsion beam suspensions.

Brake technology The standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses sensors on each wheel (1) that work with the onboard computer (2) to monitor wheel lock-up. The system includes electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA).

Together, these features contribute to a safe and stable driving experience.

Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)

EBA monitors the amount of brake pressure being applied to the pedal during an emergency stop. If the force being applied to the pedal is sufficient, the EBA system will automatically apply the brakes to their maximum pressure. This assistance, in conjunction with ABS, can reduce the stopping distance of the vehicle greatly.

Sensors monitor front and rear wheel rotation (1), steering wheel angle (3), yaw angle and lateral acceleration (4). If they detect oversteer or understeer, the onboard computer (2) can modulate engine power and apply the brakes to individual wheels to keep them under control and heading in the right direction.
