WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) Three elementary types of developable surfaces are Cy;inders, cones, and tangent surfaces of space curves. Developable surfaces characterized by the property that they can be mapped isometrically into the plane.
Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) Because developable surfaces can be easily covered with materials. Also as they carry a family of straight lines the also smplifies their construction. These advantages are useful for realistic construction. Such as Huyghe and Le Corbusier Puppet Theatre, the surface is converted in to many triangle fragments which can be build in realistic life rather than twist surface.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital fabrication is using digital media and emerging technologies to represent construction. Computer fabrication has opened a realm for architects to perceptually heighten and make vicible the nature of this accretion through constructed repetition and difference. It narrows the gap between the representation and building.
Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) Because it shares the aspiration to create fluidity and multifunctionality with continuous surface.
