Betina – Island of Murter - Hrvatska
Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding is located in a protected cultural and historical whole of Betina. Museum's permanent collection is divided into six exhibition rooms showing the complete story of wooden shipbuilding tradition in Betina explaining the importance oft he ship in everyday life of the inhabitants of the island of Murter. There are shipbuilding tools, as well as the everyday items gathered from private collections of local people witnessing the customs and the culture of the village. The island of Murter is specific by the fact that the majority of the estates of its inhabitants isn't located on the island but on the nearby islands, the area surrounding Vrana Lake and the Kornati archipelago. In the Museum you will see exactly why did the islanders think of the ship as part of the family, what needs was the boat required to meet and what was its purpose.
Museum's collection of scale models counts 5 different types of most commonly built ships in Betina. In the Museum you will find scale models of bracera, gajeta, kaić, lađa and leut. The use of new media is present in the Museum. Visitors can watch documentaries showing some of local curiosities, see how does the traditional wedding looks like, sail off or go fishing. Part of the exhibition is a documentary that through interviews with local shipbuilders tells an interesting story of the tradition of wooden shipbuilding in the village.

Betina gajeta Betina
gajeta is the most distinctive and recognizable boat being built in Betina shipyards. Betina gajeta is a 5 to 8 meters long, and 2 to 2,6 meters wide wooden boat with the sail as its elementary navigation asset. The skill and the
The youngest, but also those a little older, have the opportunity of expanding their knowledge in shipbuilding by both playing and placing parts of the boat in a correct order through a special 3D game that simulates Betina shipyard – a škver. Museum souvenirshop offers authentic souvenirs made by local souvenir makers whose design is inspired with the permanent exhibition of the Museum.

Augmented reality Visitors of Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding can see Betina gajeta and other wooden boats made in local shipyards in the local harbour in its natural ambient. For our visitors we have also prepared a small virtual gift – 3D Betina gajeta that can be seen anywhere after downloading Augment - 3D Augmented reality application on your smartphone. Focusing the phone on the logo of the Museum printed on the tickets, Betina gajeta can be seen on the screen of the mobile phone.

The Museum is closed on Sundays, holidays and national holidays. Museum can be opened outside specified time by prior arrangement. Group visits outside specified time need to be announced at least 5 days earlier. See you in the Museum!
