CLUSTEARTH Additive earthen shelters Final project, “the right to a quality shelter”, June 2022 The project focuses on new housing solutions for Roma people and is based on research on their current housing crisis and specifically on the “Cupa perillo” camp in Scampia. The starting point of the project, as a module, allows scalability and reproducibility according to different needs, with the aim of restoring dignity to the Roma people and providing a solution for sustainable economic development. The choice of creating an harmonious shape optimized through climate analysis connects with the circular patio concept and suits both 3d printing and architectural and social context. Moreover the linear walls of the living units allow for integration of construction development by the community create standardized spaces inside. Several enviromental strategies have been applied in order to increase the indoor and outdoor comfort and at the same time reduce the energy and water consumption with the aim of having a self-sufficient village. The design choices leave space for potential development of the units over the years, involving the community in the construction phase and giving them the opportunity to shape their own spaces. 3D printing is used as a tool to minimize the use of materials and maximize the use of existing materials near the camp, including natural materials and waste. The design of the unit itself but also of the masterplan is flexible in a way can be replicated in vulnerable contexts, by creating different aggragation and chosing specifics facilities depending on the people need but always ensuring a quality shelter with appropriate interior environments for all. CIRCLE FORWARD A pop up store for Salvatore Ferragamo Workshop project, SOS school of sustainability, June 2022 The design aims to create a new generation of FERRAGAMO pop stores with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, culture and sharing. The project has been developed following the Design Thinking strategy, a human-centred approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the need of people, the possibilities of technology and the requirements for business success. The expirience we wanted to offer through this desing is an invitation to enter Ferragamo’s gallegy of sustainability, for fantasy, circularity and connection, creating tomorrow today. Ferragamo’s product is the pop-up store. Once purchased , the reflective structure will symbolically vanish, leaving only the reflection of thei customers. About the materials, the use of natural ones such as cork and wood for customozeid packaging and the pop-up itself brings us to a general reduction which means minimising at its maximum the use of materials by giving importance only to what metters. Having in mind the GenZ the use of augmented reality con provide a more convenient and personalized shopping experience for the retail store consumers , transforming the way retailers can market their product, improving their outeach and ultimately increasing costumer satisfaction. Interactive mirrors or smart mirrors, can be equipped with two-way mirrored glass, cameras, and touchscreens, to provide the user with not only their reflection, but information on products, personalised content, and interactive elements to easily share on social media.

LIGHT REMOVES DARKNESS A proposal for a female prison in Germany Master Thesis Project, University of Rome La sapienza 2019
The thesis project “Light removes Darkness” is part of the debate on prison architecture, but with a new role. Throughout history the design of this space has always been based on the concept of punishment, and it is only since the last century that people have begun to talk about the rehabilitation of prisoners. It is precisely in this climate of renewed interest that the project came to life, developed partly at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences where, under the supervision of Professor Ehlers, the research and design process began, to then conclude in its final phase of in-depth study and comparison in Italy. The project concerns the new construction of a women’s penitentiary, specifically an institute with mitigated custody, on German territory, in the federal state of Hesse. A long process of research and study was required, leading to the definition of a way of approaching the design of the prison that would combine aspects related to security with those concerning affectivity, recovery and reintegration into society, which are central to the life of the prisoner. The aim was therefore to formulate a modern prison model in which architecture is used as a fundamental means in this process. In any case, the organisation of this complex is based on the rationalisation of routes, so as to have a clear and comprehensible approach. This requirement has been resolved by dividing the institute into functional areas which have different levels of usability and use. The general concept provides for the dislocation and differentiation of the different areas into blocks, which are however connected by a continuous pathway that acts as an enclosure for the structure and creates an internal courtyard, which in turn is divided into functional areas closely connected to the adjacent buildings. In fact, each functional block corresponds to a specific “outdoor” area capable of satisfying the users’ motor, light and recreational needs. The arrangement of these areas follows a certain reasoning of functional relations: therefore on the sides of the entrance gate there are the access and disposal areas, closely connected to both the administrative and the evaluation and therapy functional blocks. If you move away from the entrance area, following two opposite semicircular routes, you will find the treatment and recreational activities on one side and the visiting and staff function block on the other; continuing on, you will find the two routes leading back to the most important block, i.e. the living quarters. Although simple, clean forms have been used, each block has a “special” building inside it in terms of configuration and function so as to make the prison space differentiated, dynamic and stimulating for the users.

ChoCO-LIVING Refurbishment and renovation of a living complex, Turin, Italy University Project, Frankfurt university of applied scinces 2019
Besids the competition you are going to see afterwards we went forward designing the complete area. This time we worked on one of the exisiting building that are already there by creating a living complex. We geathered in this living part two ways of experiencing: one side would be given to the visitors of the museum while the other one will be an art community. The costrcution presented opposite appearence on the two main facades: the one in front of the museum is in bad conditions whereas the opposite has a good architecture quality. Our intention was to not touch the external appearence of the building respecting the architecture context in which the bulding is seattled but add a new structure on the top which follows the inclinated shape of the roof around but has a completely different material. With a simple gestaure we will create a strong and attractive contrast. Only the top flor and the ground flor will look diferrent from outside to reflet actually what is happening inside. As it is shown in the plans the common spaces are located at level of the street and in the additional new flors. The side of the building in front of the museum is completely open on the ground floor allowding an uninterrupted flow. The vertical connections are located outside of the construction in both cases to let a flxible and free space inside. Further more in the hostel part they are included in a structure that presence the same material of the museum’s core. On the upper flors the gallerys which links the various spaces and terraces open up to the square. Regarding the internal distribution, the building hosts two functions which are strichtly separeted on everyfloor excepted for the last one. The community spaces are organized in modules where from 2 to 4 rooms are sharing a common kitchen and living room whereas the hostel is composed by single or double private while the common spaces are located in the vertical connection.

Chocolate IN&OUT Idea for a chocolare museum in Tourin Competition prjects, START FOR TALENTS 2019
Chocolate In&Out was born with the intention of redesigning and renovating an entire area that, despite being in the center of the city, seems to be devoid of any defiition. Our ideawas to design a chocolate museum thinking not only to its regular function but rather a place of aggregation, open tothe public. With the aim of pursuing urban continuity with the context in which it must be inserted, we decided to be simple but very impactive by raising the ground and show what happens in the lower level. Everything related to chocolate will take place in the lower part while the upper part, the one that is actually the museum’s cover will maintain its public function. Therefore our intention is to reconsider the idea of square “piazza” how is commonly and traditionally intended in the Italian context and to offer the city something different and innovative. To approach the site with our idea we created one big space by putting out the street that divided the site from the public building next to it. This way the new big area would serve not only the museum but also all the other buildings around it. The appearance of the fial shape of the building is simple; it is in fact the combination of two basic geometries: an inclinated plane and a cube. What gives vivacity and movement to the project instead, is the internal disposition; all the functions are grouped in the core and are tightly connected to each other although they are at different levels. The idea of continuity and integration is made possible thanks to the use of a continuous ramp, namely a path that accompanies the visitor to discover the different and many sections of the museum. Entering, in fact you are in a polydreal space where you do not feel boundaries, so the visitor feels completely free to choose which route to take.

HELLERHÒFE Refurbishment of a neighboorhoud in the outskirt of Frankfurt Competition projects, Menges und Schffler Architekten, January 2022
Taking into account Germany’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65 per cent in 2030 compared to 1990 and to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, the Menges und Scheffler team proposed an attractive neighbourhood with high quality residential courtyards and lively passages. The ensemble should reduce the need for technology with intelligently used constructions and contribute to the quality of life in the city and climate protection with a long life span of the selected materials. The planning nad design objectives are the yields of an attractive but environmentally and technologically aware desgin and inclusiveness. This is achieved through dense but scaled development, with clearly identifiable houses and differently designed façades, varied open spaces with optimal quality of use and permanence for residents and commercial tenants. All buildings are sustainable with low running and maintenance costs. With regard to materials, they are of high quality with timeless aesthetics, far from the fashion for short life spans as a guarantee for a long life of the buildings. In this respect, the aim is to minimise the CO2 balance in the production (grey energy) and deconstruction of building components through the use of recycled materials, especially from the demolition of existing buildings. For example, concrete and brick materials demolished and separated on site could be crushed in the Frankfurt area and recycled in the production of new concrete. (Currently, according to DIBt, 25 per cent of new concrete material can be mixed with recycled material) The planning process is interdisciplinary with BIM. As a result, it is possible to realise the highest possible degree of prefabrication in timber constructions, with the associated speed of construction, noise reduction and high quality of execution. Last but not least, the promotion of biodiversity through community gardens, greening of facades and roofs with native plants is a strong point of the entire master plan. About the urban scale Our urban design is intended as a counter design to the large-scale, partly monofunctional and monotonous blocks of the Europaviertel. It is sensitively oriented towards the small-scale structure of the existing buildings in the western sub-area.

MULTIRELIGIOUS CIRCLE Idea for a multifunctional center in Tanaf, Senegal Competition prjects, KairaLoro 2017
The challenge of the “Kaira looro” competition was to design in an architectural reality the spirituality of the native inhabitants of Tanaf, a small village in Senegal. The students were requested to celebrate the philosophy of worship in a remote place of the earth, where the lack of highly performing materials and technologies pushes the architecture towards the branch of sustainability and integration with landscape and culture. The goal was to create an architecture for worship that, in addition to offering a new identity to the territory, will give substance to a culture, showing its spirituality with lightness and elegance, creating an architecture destined to become a symbol for the entire country. The concept of the project therefore comes from a local construction called “impluvium”, a well with a light covering that surrounds it in which rainwater is collected. Taking up the this characteristic shape we have created a space that allows a continuous flw of circulation but at the same time allows the various religions to have their proper place to pray. That’s the reason why there are four circular buildings connected through a roof and a common platform. Our concept is based on the idea of giving to the local community, instead of mere religious building, a new landmark , a meeting and exchanging place where the society, exhausted by environmental conditions, could flourish again. About this, the project put it selfs as it shub the multifunctionality and the reversibility of the spaces, which don’t have an unic and specific function, so neither fixed furniture or equipment then its can be exploited and fitted to the needs and requirements of the popolation, providing ductile and welcoming spaces. Regarding the religious vocation and the associtaed celebrations , instead, we are think about separate settings to repsect the diversity but however directed and embodeed in the common grate space. The permeability, the adaptability and the comunity are the basis of these new building which stands both as a recreational gathering center, as well as refection in case of sanitary emergence soffering easily accessible and comfortable circles. The analysis of the area has been decisive when choosing the project layout because we didn’t want to gethurt the traditional appearence of the african village in serting a structure disjointed from the context, but consistent with the indigenous constructions we have opted for local shapes and materials. Moreover because of the climatic conditions we have chosen to rise the roof from the walls for natural ventilation and to open the volumes in several parts to create air currents and finally to create common covered spaces to remedy the weatherproblems in the rainy season. The avatar icon was evolved following the main think of the concept that is the fruibility of the settings and the flagship marks of the place which are the sun and the palm trees.
