The cultural landscape describes the “Palafito” (Stilt houses) as the primal aquatic dwelling, evidence of an unique and historical space that forms part of the collective memory of all Venezuelans. This project pretends to brings the natural and cultural values of the Sinamaica lagoon communities to the visitor and to promote a more responsible approach to our national heritage.
A paisagem cultural que descreve a palafita como moradia originária lacustre, evidencia um espaço único de habitação, que faz parte de nossa memória coletiva, porém, às vezes ,é também para muitos desconhecido. Esta exposição pretende aproximar o visitante sobre o valor cultural e natural de Sinamaica, como espaço habitado e propiciar ao visitante uma atitude mais responsável com os recursos patrimoniais.

The Sinamaica Lagoon is a natural site of great significance to the Añú culture. This unique geographical habitat has shaped and distinguished the Añú from other indigenous cultures and made them the most important aquatic community living on the Maracaibo lake basin.
A lagoa de Sinamaica é um lugar natural de grande significado para a cultura añú , devido a que este sistema é o ámbito geográfico onde o modo de vida se organiza e se desenvolve , que os diferencia de outras culturas indígenas, identificando-os como um dos mais importantes povos de água, da bacia do Lago de Maracaibo.

The lagoon has an intermediate salinity due to the confluences of the Limon river and the lake tides, this fact has allowed for the exceptional grow of a lush landscape of tall grasses (Eneales) and mangroves, where the numerous stilt houses or Palafitos rise from the waters in symbiosis with nature, this coexistence with nature has deeply determined the Añú culture and society.
O sistema de lagoa ao qual pertence parte deste territorio é um cenário rodeado por majestuosos tabuais e mangues, e numerosas construções em palafita , suspendidas na água; pelo qual existe uma relação simbiótica com seu entorno natural, ao qual é determinante para sua organização social. A corrente fluvial do Rio Limón e seu constante encontró com a maré , formou a lagoa , produzindo uma salinidade intermediária e variável, que permitiu o desenvolvimento de mangues de grandes tamanhos e permitiu conter as condições para o desenvolvimento desta cultura d´água.
The Añú culture
A cultura Añú
The word “Añú” means “people of the water”. Their neighbors the Wayúu called them Parajaunos which means “inhabitants of the coast”. The Añú are one of five ethnic indigenous groups living in the state Zulia, the other four groups are; the Barí, Yukpa, Wayúu and the Japreira. The Añú language belongs to the Arawak family. Their symbols and universe are tightly intertwined with the water and the lagoon. They have traditionally lived on the lagoon, but there are also groups of them living in the Nazaret area of El Mojan and in Santa Rosa de Agua. Currently the Añú share the lagoon with mestizos as well as with an increasing population of foreign individuals.
A palabra añú significa “ gente d´água” . Também são conhecidos como paraujanos, que significa ” habitantes da costa do mar ” , gentílico que deriva de seus vizinhos os wayúu. Os Añú são um dos cinco povos aborígenes existentes no estado de Zulia ( sendo os outros quatro: os Barí,os Yukpa, os Wayúu e os Japreira). Pertencem à família lingüística arawak. Seu universo simbólico está relacionado fortemente à agua e à Lagoa de Sinamaica. Além de que os Añú vivem tradicionalmente na lagoa de Sinamaica, existem outros agrupamentos regionais, incluindo os bairros Nazaret de Moján e o de Santa Rosa de Água , em Maracaibo.
