Dan Janowick Executive Director
From the desk of The Executive Director
GATHER. GROW. GIVE-BACK.
As we navigate the back-to-school transition, changing seasons, and election cycles; I am filled with pride in what The Community House offers to our community. Our programs transcend political parties and school district boundaries, and we stand as a beacon of strength and connectivity, fostering a vibrant tapestry of support and opportunity for families to gather, grow, and give back.
At the heart of our mission lies the belief that strong and healthy communities are built on shared experiences and mutual support. Every day, we witness the power of connection in action: from the laughter echoing through our halls during our summer camps to the quiet moments of learning in an art class. Each interaction, whether big or small, contributes to the rich fabric of our community.
From our signature programs like the afterschool program (page 7) or the Jodie Harrison basketball League (pages 30 & 31) to the diverse array of educational and recreational programs designed to enrich lives at every stage, we create a gathering space where everyone can thrive, connect, and grow.
I am continually inspired by the passion and dedication of our staff, volunteers, Board of Trustees, and community partners who work tirelessly to make The Community House a place we can all be proud of. Together, we have built not just an institution, but a home—a place where families, neighbors and strangers can meet, because life is more fun when we’re together.
In a complicated world, I have no doubt that together, we will continue to build a stronger, more connected community—one that is inclusive, supportive, and welcoming to all. I look forward to seeing you at our house!

Music Together
Ages: 0-6 years old with parent/caregiver
Each week, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time with Tiny Toes Music. Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course!). In Music Together’s mixed age classes, everyone participates at their own level: babies vocalize, listen and observe; toddlers play and experiment; preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together! You’ll take home the award-winning music used in class, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. You’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development all session long as you discover new ways to play with music together. It’s so much fun, you won’t realize how much learning is taking place! Infant siblings under 9 months attend for free and any caregiver (parent, nanny, or grandparent) can participate in this family music experience. For more information, visit www.TinyToesMusic.com No class the week of Oct. 22nd.

This program offers each child the opportunity to experience a wide range of gross motor activities while being introduced to the sport of gymnastics. There are a variety of age groups to address the various physical, experience, and maturation levels of the student. Children are amazing and diverse in their abilities and attentiveness. Each child presents with different intensities and desires, please enroll your child in the appropriate class.
“CJ” Johnson, Jeanne Johnson, and Paul Kahovec bring a novel approach to gymnastics! Individually, each has over 50 years of coaching, judging and national level competitive experience. They are paired with younger, highly motivated, and welltrained coaches to bring excellent basics and accelerated training techniques to your child.
We are excited to add Reyna Batra as club manager. There is a range of classes to develop our beginning students and to compliment those athletes in other programs desiring extra training time.

OCT. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater: Bullets in the Bathtub
Ages: 21 years old and up
Join us for a Fall evening where glamor and intrigue collide complete with gangsters, flappers and bootleggers. Its October 2, 2024 but we will welcome to the roaring 1920’s where bathtubs were only made for one thing—to make gin! (Ok, maybe two things). Lots of gangsters are showing up at “Cherry’s Speakeasy” to talk about the turf war going on between the Cornelis and the Buttafuccos. Just when we think things are going to settle down, tensions arise when in comes Harry Hyde (famous Russian mobster) who loves to make enemies! Local constable, Doyle Lonnegan, will try to solve the crime, but not before things get wild! Meet suspicious and crazy characters as you work to unravel the clues, to find out who put “a finger” on Harry’s Hyde! Was it Larry, The Rug? Was it Joey, The Lips? Or maybe, J. Edna Hoover? This immersive experience promises an unforgettable evening of mystery and suspense! Dress to impress! 1920’s attire suggested, but not required for an evening of deception, betrayal and unexpected revelations! Register at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure the event can take place. Tai Chi with Zuzanna
Ages: 18 years old and up
Join us at The Community House and meet Zuzana from Hummingbird Qigong in this beginner to intermediate Tai Chi program to improve your balance, coordination and overall health. Per Harvard Medical School, Tai Chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice has value in treating or preventing many health problems. Tai Chi is a practice that involves a series of slow gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. It’s a low-impact, slow-motion exercise, that doesn’t put any pressure on the joints. It’s also slowly becoming therapeutic exercise for many chronic health conditions. Session/Classes will not be pro-rated and are non-refundable unless canceled by The Community House.
