INTERNET SAFETY With Edward Guy and David Ortiz
• Hi, my name is Officer Guy. Me and officer Ortiz are here to teach you all about safety. Not just any kind of safety but, INTERNET SAFETY.
Rule number 1 Remember never to give out personal information: One day little Timmy was on the computer, and someone asked for his name and date of birth. What should Timmy do? Timmy should quickly close down his computer and tell his parents.
• Rule number 2 Never write to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or scared.
While Mary was researching a paper she was invited to a chat room. What should Mary do? Mary should ignore that invite and continue to finish what she was doing.
• Rule number 3 Do not meet someone or have them visit you without the permission of your parents:
Johnny was on the internet and a friend sent him an address and told him to meet her there.
What should Johnny do? Johnny should tell his parents and see what they would say about it.
• Rule number 4 Never send a photo or picture of any kind across the internet to any one:
Belinda was asked by a guy she met online to send a picture to him.
What should Belinda do? Belinda should tell him NO!
• RULE NUMBER 5 People online are not always who they say they are: Kathy was talking online to a girl that said she was 12 years of age. The girl was very friendly, But Kathy didn’t know if she could trust what she said.
What should Kathy do? Kathy should just keep the conversation to a certain level and don’t get any deeper into it.
SO…what have we learned today?
Don’t talk to anyone that makes you feel scared. Never meet someone or have them visit you. People on the Internet are NOT always who they say they are. Don’t send your picture to anyone on the Internet. Don’t give out your Internet passwords.
There is one more rule you should know about the internet.
No matter what you do on the internet you should tell your parents and ask would it be ok first!
