Introduction • Throughout the years technology has changed drastically. • In modern times people use the Internet for just about everything. • Social Media is an example of something people are using and use constantly over the internet. • And technology changes so does our society. • Society now has laws that prevent things like Fraud and Plagiarism. • Copyright is something people do to protect their creations legally. What exactly is the internet and how does it work? What is Social Media and why do people use it? What is Fraud? What is Plagiarism? What is Copyright and what does it do? By the end of this PowerPoint you should have the answer to all of these questions.
What is Fraud? • Fraud is wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain. • Fraud offenses always include some sort of false statement, deception, or dishonest behavior. • Fraud can occur through the mail, internet, phone, or by wire. • There are many types of fraud. Two types of fraud include: identity theft and account fraud.
What is Social Media? Why do people use it? • Social Media is made up of a variety of different websites that people use via internet to connect, communicate, and share with others. • Social Media allows you to: connect with friends and family, communicate with others, and share your thoughts an ideas to a worldwide audience. • Many people also use social media to: discover new things, catch up on recent trends, learn information about something, and find the things that interest you.
What is the Internet? What is Internet Basics? • The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. • Internet basics are the basic requirements for an internet connection and the use of internet applications. • The internet basics include: a network (either LAN or WAN), a server, a client, and an ISP, or internet service provider. • The World Wide Web is a service that runs on the internet. • The components of the World Wide Web include various internet basics such as search engines, web browsers, media players, RSS, and spam.
What is Copyright? • The legal right granted to an author, composer, playwright, publisher, or distributor to exclusive publication, production, sale, or distribution of a literary, musical, dramatic, or artistic work. • Copyright gives legal protection for an individual’s creations or productions.
What is Plagiarism? • Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. • In other words, it is the use of another’s work or production without crediting the source: to commit “literacy theft”.
Conclusion • In conclusion, technology’s change over many years has directly influenced our society and the way we interact. • Today you can chat with someone all the way from another country via social media by using the internet. • In comparison if our technology changes, so does our laws.
