LEADERS IN TRAINING
Entering Grades 7 & 8
Opportunities in Hopkinton and Framingham
Can only register for ONE 2 week session (see below)
The Leaders in Training program welcomes youth entering Grades 7 & 8 who are interested in developing leadership skills. The program emphasizes volunteerism and service-learning. Leaders in Training (LITs) learn how to contribute to their camp community and gain skills to become active leaders. LITs participate in team building activities and develop the talents necessary to work with their peers, community, and younger children.
In Hopkinton, a core feature of this program features a service project dedicated to the camp property. Last year one of our groups designed and painted a beautiful tree mural on the Block Bathroom wall. The group will have a brainstorm session and then vote on the project they wish to lead.
In Framingham, a core feature of the program is that the groups will travel off-site to Natick STEAM Camp and Camp Clearbrook to have hands-on experience leading activities and partaking in the leadership opportunities at each location.
In addition, both programs will participate in traditional camp activities like sports, arts, and swimming. The LIT camp day includes portions of the day where they might be leading a camp activity for our youngest campers or learning from a program specialist how they run their program area.
LIT Experience Highlights
• Being a leader at camp
• Volunteering and service-learning
• Social-emotional learning including skill development in decision making, problem-solving, creating friendships, and team building.
• Focus on cultural awareness, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
• Walk away with a strong work ethic that can apply to any leadership experience.
• Become CPR and First Aid Certified

Mandatory training Week 1 or 2

CITs develop workplace readiness skills and gain experience working with youth and understanding Y policies/procedures. CIT participants can use the valuable experience gained in the CIT program for college entrance essays and for future employment in the community. The CIT program prepares young adults for success in the workforce and helps them reach their full potential as community leaders. The Y will consider CITs who display outstanding abilities for employment once they turn 16.

12) If your child is waitlisted, we will contact you if an opening is available. Full tuition will be due at time of enrollment. Waitlists are monitored regularly. Being on a waitlist for a Hopkinton specialty camp does not mean your child has a spot in a traditional camp. You must register for an available camp for a spot to be held. If a waitlisted spot opens, we will transfer your child to that spot and cancel the other camp with no penalties.
13) All information collected when registering online is kept securely by the YMCA. Credit/Debit card information is not accessible by YMCA staff and is kept in a secure system.

If your child attended camp last summer, please contact Kathleen Glennon, kglennon@metrowestymca.org or Yanessa Mendez, ymendez@metrowestymca.org to activate a voucher code so you can register online without a deposit.
If you have a voucher outside of the MetroWest Y, provide documentation before registration for the deposit to be waived or you are responsible for the $50 deposit per session per child. Please reach out to Kathleen Glennon@metrowestymca.org regarding vouchers. Please note that children with EEC subsidies can register for all camps with the exception of specialty camps in Hopkinton.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
We recognize families have different abilities to pay. To keep camps and programs accessible to all, the Y gives families the option to choose a membership that best reflects the rate they wish to pay for camp. If you feel you still need help affording summer camp, the MetroWest YMCA can help. Within its available resources, the MetroWest YMCA will provide camp and membership regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Partial financial assistance through our Y-Assist program will be awarded to those who can demonstrate their inability to pay the full fee. Funds for the Y-Assist program are raised as part of the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. Visit member services or download an application online.
